When I had my 700, I used Motochopper to root my baby without unlocking. Does anyone know if there is a way to root my tf701t without unlocking? Is there someone working on updating the motochopper app? Or is there a similar app in the works somewhere?
It would be sooo great to be able to root without unlocking. :fingers-crossed:

Currently not possible I'm afraid. You want to root you have to unlock. Until someone finds an exploit for tegra4 devices.
Thanks...

Anyone kind souls that know way more about Andorid than me looking into making this possibly possible?
I got mine today, and would die if I could put my own ROM on it and still have all the Republic-wifi-calling stuff work!

I'm looking to root too, so I can't help you with that part yet, but I can tell you that custom ROM is out of the question. The RW features are baked into the stock ROM. If you flash a new ROM, you're likely to get booted from the network.

Well, I can now speak to the root question. The RockMyMoto method worked perfectly on my wife's RW Moto X.

Think he's referring to this thread. Haven't tried yet since mine hasn't come in either
Ok, so I've upgraded to 4.3 and lost my root. As far as I know, to get root on 4.3 I will need unlocked bootloader to flash custom kernel and/or ROM. Unfortunately in the Service Info / Configuration of my phone it says: Bootloader unlock allowed: NO. So here's the question: is there any method of unlocking the bootloader other than official from Sony? Looking at the Xperia Z and ZL forums looks like there isn't, but maybe someone had succeeded on the Z1?
Thanks for any information.

if that's all you have to say, you can go back to your pre-school now.
Please do some research first.
there is no way to unlock it
That's what i was afraid of. So is there a chance to root it some how?

First, I would say buyer beware. Second, I seriously doubt it considering no root yet with the locked boot loader and the talent in this community. However, if you are willing to jump first...let us know how it goes and make sure you have video to prove it

Thanks for the info! I guess I jumped the gun on asking in a new thread (and I'll admit it, I didn't do a basic search for Kingo before hand.) I'm not quite sure I wanna be the first to try this on my AT&T S5.. even though I'm kinda that desperate to get Root :-/

I am waiting for 2 things
1) root on stock ROM
2) possibility of larger internal storage
I would say it's gonna be a while. the man the myth the legend chain fire said it's gonna be a long time before we get root access

The latest firmware update for the AT&T S4 (NB1) does not yet have a direct root method. The obstacles for obtaining root on this phone (S5) and that phone are generally the same. So I would say root will be achieved on the S4 (newest firmware) before or at the same time as root for the S5. So I would say you are correct about it taking a little while.
I was under the impression that the CF-AUTO ROOT Method would work on the at&t SGH-I 337. Please advice

Nope. Won't work. There is no direct root method for NB1 yet. There is a work-around that involves SafeStrap and installing a pre-rooted ROM, but that's it at the moment.

I'm sure it's been asked and answered, but since you mentioned it.. The same type of work-around, using SafeStrap and installing a pre-rooted stock ROM, can't be used on the S5?
Here is a mirror to the Cf auto root method I used using Odin and it gave me for access I can't speak for the NB1 as my s4 was 6 months old at the time.

So does this method works in the S5? I think thats what you mean right?
Pretty sure safe strap requires root first on JB ROM, then flashing a pretty rooted kit Kat update.

No it doesn't sorry for the confusion this only works on the at&t galaxy s4
(Quoted from Chainfires Google+) That's impossible to predict, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it. It may take months or never happen. If root is important to you, get an unlocked device and be sure you'll have it.

It's been explained in some posts by our fellow devs in some of the threads - the answer is: no root without UB, because the kernel has a so-called 'verity check', which detects any system modifications and panics if it finds one, and for this to be overcome, there are already some kernels which bypass this check, but as you know, you can't install a custom kernel without unlocking the bootloader.
However, I saw some hopeful post about M, something about an exploit being available for half-root, enough to backup your TA and unlock bootloader with the option of re-locking it afterwards without losing your DRM keys.

They say the galaxy s6 has a locked bootloader. There appears to be a way to do a tethered root if your on 5.0.1 I think but no way to root anything after that because of the locked bootloader from everything I have read in these forums.
If you do a forum search for rooting the S6 you can read deeper into the issue.
