Hey guys, I am very frustrated right now because I have been trying to root my phone for over 5 hours and have not gotten anywhere. This is my first time rooting, and I really would appreciate your guys knowledge and help. I have windows, and I have been reading and watching videos and downloading all kinds of things. I tried following the steps in htconeroot.com and I watched the whole video tutorial, and I couldn't even get the htc one root zip downloaded to my computer... Can someone please help me, I am completely lost. I feel like I have just been reading and trying things that are outdated and/or the links do not work anymore. Thank you very much, as I am in need right now and I would really like to get my phone rooted as soon as possible.
Thanks again!

Hey, thank you very much for helping out BD,
I am just learning all this stuff so sorry if I may not know what to do on very basic steps.
My first question is,
on step 5 on htcdev bootloader, it tells me to type in a command. I typed it and I got this, "fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"
Sorry man, if you get me through this lol I promise I will get you some fine Costa Rican coffee! I want to get it done, I hope you can be here guiding me and I am very thankful!
Howdy,
You need to download all the drivers and add bundle. Which OS do you use on your computer? For the adb get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474956
If you need any further assistance just tell and I can make a quick video for you.
Cheers

Open the cmd window from the folder with all the files that you downloaded
Download and install this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790 and check the desktop shortcut in the setup. Run the new desktop shortcut and type commands there. Put the unlock token bin in the install folder. You can do this by right clicking the shortcut and clicking open file location and drag the token there.
All the files are under download, I went to the cmd window and typed download. Man, I have no idea how to do any of this stuff. I am completely new to all of this. I downloaded the files but then I don't even know if I am suppose to do anything with them...
I will restart again, as if I have not downloaded anything at all...
My first steps should be following the bootloader instructions on HTCdev, and at step 4 I download the files and then extract them to another folder. Then I should go hit start, type cmd. Click cmd, and type that stuff? That is what I did, where did I go wrong?
If you can wait for a bit I can make a video guide, if you wish? Just tell, cheers

I really appreciate you guys on not giving up on me, BD should I download the root files before doing anything else?
Also, since I feel like an idiot about this stuff. Because everyone seems to have no problems and I can't even unzip a file or open a command. I had to google to even know what unzipping a file meant.
Is there any files I should have on my computer prior to attempting to download anything else in the guide? Also, should I just make a folder and name it something like androidroot, and then whenever I download a file, copy it to the desktop and try to open it?

Hey guys, I have gotten past all that other stuff and I just got my unlock pin code on my email, I ran into a problem saving it. Whenever I tried to save it, i get a message saying windows can't open the file that it needs to know what program to use to open the file? What should I do in this part, and sorry about my questions before, I just had to read more and explore the links you provided, before I started watching the video link I was trying to follow every step on htcdev

It askes me to use a program to open the file with, the guy on the video is able to just save it with no problem on his desktop then move it to the root file. Whenever it gives me options to manually select the program I can choose to open the bin and I click the root folder, the options of programs it gives me are th HTC driver, fastboot, cmd, another folder saying stock recovery and boot images, and adb?
I have no clue, it doesn't give me an option to just save it to the desktop like how the guy in the vid did. Plus it says windows can't open the file and it asks me to search the web for a program to open the file or to just open the file with an already installed program, I just dont know what program to choose.
Thanks for sticking with me, really appreciate it.

Yeah I did both, the problem is it doesn't give me an option to save as because its on my email (gmail.) I'm using firefox webbrowser, the only options I have is to hit the download arrow or show in drive. If I right click it, the options are
back, forward, bookmark this page or save page as, background image. Just the regular options.

Ok go into setting/about/software/more and tap the build number 7 times it will enable developer options
then go to settings/dev options and UNcheck then re-check USB Debugging you will now get a popup on your phone with an RSA number check the box that says always allow from this PC and hit OK.
Your device should show as device rather then offline

Re-check your path. When I installed it looked like this:
c:\android-sdk_r06-windows\android-sdk-windows\tools
YMMV
PS ... note they are backslashes not forward slashed in the path
Q: still having a problem rooting my captivate
i switched it up to the backlash and it still saying no path detected...it wont enen let me root my phone saying file is not there i downloaded the root file extract it to my c drive n renamed it update i got windows 7 i then copied it to my phone...downloaded the android sdk file extracted it to my c drive.opened up the command and put in the codes and it tells me it cant find the path..am i downloading the file wrong extracting it to the wrong file??? plz help
I do it the lazy way, take the tools folder and copy it directly to C:
So it would be,
cd C:\tools
adb blah blah blah
That's an easier path to remember.

That works too ...
My point was it's clear the OP has the path wrong. Actually finding the tools folder in Windows Explorer is obviously the first step.
Also, anything he is trying to push via ADB has to be in the tools folder as well if memory serves.
Of course there is an easier way to root ...

Don't know what to tell you. Following the instructions in the post I linked to above is the easiest way I know of how to root, and has worked every time I've tried it.
If you can get into download mode, then maybe try re-flashing to stock with Odin One Click and see if that helps any. Or re-install your drivers.
So, you cant even copy and paste from your pc to phone via usb mass storage?
Use your phone, go to dev section, find unleash the beast or super rooter extreme, download either and place the update.zip on the root of your sd card using My Files or whatever. Reboot your phone into recovery and reinstall packages. There, youre rooted. Dont forget to delete the update.zip if you plan to use CWM.

You can use Sideload Wonder Machine or the Android SDK to sideload.
With the Android SDK, you just put whatever apk you want to load into the 'tools' folder and use the adb install filename.apk command.
Like i said, check the dev section for SRE or unleash the beast. One update.zip that does it all, root, bloatware removal, sideloading, etc.

What startngate said. Here in the captivate forum there is android developement, do a search for super rooter or unleash the beast. All the steps to run it are there. Works really well if you just want a stock rom with root and some other goodies. If you want custom roms i encourage you to read through the threads before doing anything.

I use this one to keep it simple.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
And I think it has the update.zip file in it... so if that application doesn't work.. you can just install the update.zip into your sdcard - reboot into recovery and install update.zip from there.
You don't need the SDK - just need to make sure your phone can be seen by your computer. I've used it on both an XP and Win7 64-bit machine at home and it works great.
To "side-load" applications - you can use the wonder machine... or place the *.apk file on your SDCard and use MyFiles or your favorite file explorer to browse to it and it should install just fine.
I'm testing my phone out with a stock ROM - and I'm rooted/sideload avail and even have a lagfix installed with all of my apps installed in under 15-20 minutes... it is a pretty simple process to root this thing nowdays
Hey all!
So my problem is that my SGS can't find any SIM cards...
First of all i got 2.1 android and then i updated to 2.2 version:I9000NEJP2
After that it seemed that my SGS was really slow, so i decided to use CFW.
I installed Darky's v.8.0
Everything worked fine, was really fast.
The next step was to unlock the simlock. First i tried SGS Unlock freeware.
I watched some vids and read some threads and the most of em said or wrote that this app worked fine. I tried it but the app couldn't find any codes on the phone.
After that i decided to try the PC version. I downloaded "Generate Unlock Windows" but this doesn't work for me too. No keys were shown in the box -.- .
So i tried it sometimes, and the result was, that i couldn't use my SGS any more.
Can't find the sim. I tried several times, nothing worked.
Then i downgraded my fw to I900XXJP2 once more, but useless...
does anybode have an unfreeze code, or does anybody know how i could solve that prob?
maybe unlock-code?
and if yes, where could i get this the best way?
Simlock is [3; Austria]
IMEI (still the original one): 354795/04/228598/8
thanks for any kind of help
maybe i'll sound a little bit nooby, but i'm new in that forum and also a new android user
thx
This may or may not solve your problem but some people have found that their SIM card seems to stop working after they have changed their product code. The fix for this is to run the following commands from ADB (you need to be rooted with SU installed):
- adb shell
- su
- busybox chown 1001:1001 /efs/nv_data.bin
- reboot
Or if you have a Terminal Emulator on your phone you can do the following:
-su
-chown 1001:1001 /efs/nv_data.bin
-reboot
AFAIK it can't do any harm running this file ownership command on nv_data.bin even is it isn't the cause of thr problem so give it a try, I hope it helps!
so first of all i got to tell u, that i've never used ADB before, and i do not know what that is and how i can start that
i started to google it but after reading several pages i'm do not know more...
could you pls tell me how i can start and type that?
and also where i can find it?
thx
didnt work
I tried the one with the terminal emulator..
did everything like u wrote, reboot...
nothing happened
seems that i ruined something -.-
maybe an other idea how i could solve that prob?
additional information: i got a little simcard symbol at the top of the screen and next to it there is a callsign
try nav_data.bin copy to your pc and run sgux from cmd or post it here

after that run file explorer in super manager and go back till first folder isn't acct and 2nd cache folder; now scroll to efs and copy nv_data.bin to sdcard

Not sure but try this. delete files I send you in elf folder and copy these 2 files from zip and then reboot phone and see with code is network lock on or off and if it doesn't work then delete files from elf folder (ones I send you) and copy orginal nv_data.bin back; then reboot phone and with code see network unlock
and please post back for all situations. Also try booting phone without any sim in it and then with sim
when enter code if no locks are there then it should be everything like in picture

It seems like it disappeard. Only space left, no symbols, nothing.
And the card can't be found too.
ups sorry forgot to attach 2 files. If this doesn't work I don't know what will. then put back orginal file in efs folder.
Also if you know someone who has also sgs still locked to your network copy his files here (complete efs folder)
all files I posted are modified and worked without problem on my sgs. Also please post nv.log from you efs folder here
Hey everyone, I've been following the Honeycomb developments on the nook, but havent posted yet. I just got my nook this weekend and immediately installed deeper blue's Honeycomb ROM on the SD card without rooting my nook.
It is great and he deserves all the praise in the world, but unfortunately does not have a ton of use to me without being able to download items from the market.
I'm not very experienced in programing in general or using the android sdk or adb.
I tried installing the market using the instructions in the following places:
w w w.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-adb-and-how-to-install-it-android/
w w w.addictivetips.com/mobile/install-android-3-0-honeycomb-and-market-on-nook-color/
After 2+ hours of frustration, I was finally able to get my device recognized in the command prompt using "adb devices" or something like that.
However, when I copied and pasted the commands, the command prompt text just scrolled and then the command prompt closed all together.
Alas, there was no market on my honeycombed nook.
Any ideas where I could have been going wrong?
I could really use an extremely basic step-by-step here.
Unfortunately, I wont be able to test anything until I get home from work later tonight.
Thanks in advance for any ideas or tips.

I saw that, but didnt know if it was the same thing I was looking for. I dont remember if I tried it or not.
Is it just as simple as it sounds? What directory exactly do I extract it in? The platform-tools folder?
Then just double click that one file and it should automatically install the market on my device?
Are there any prereqs? Like I said in my original post, I THINK i got my device recognized in the command prompt, as it gave me a serial number in the response.
Sorry for the noob questions, but I am truly unexperienced.

Hello,
I am the Mobile Technology Editor at AddictiveTips and both the guides that you quoted here were written by my writers and heavily edited by me. The issue lied in you not following one crucial step of the ADB guide - it seems you didn't add the tools and platform-tools folders of your SDK installation to your computer's PATH variable as outlined in that guide.
Doing that basically makes things a lot easier as you don't have to copy files for any such hacks or tricks into the tools or platform-tools folder of ADB and it keeps those folders clean, containing only the default tools files. It also eliminates the risk of you deleting any of those essential files when you are done with your customization and delete the files that you pasted there earlier.
The script you used was awesome as well...jleecong has done an excellent job at putting it together and I will update my guide to include it. Just like you, I've also got to thank forsaken82 for bringing it to my attention as while the guide I featured does install Market, enabling you to install the rest yourself...this one installs some other useful apps for you directly too. =)

Hello,
I am the Mobile Technology Editor at AddictiveTips and both the guides that you quoted here were written by my writers and heavily edited by me. The issue lied in you not following one crucial step of the ADB guide - it seems you didn't add the tools and platform-tools folders of your SDK installation to your computer's PATH variable as outlined in that guide.

Thank you for your reply, but I have already figured everything out using a script.
I actually did add the tools and platform-tools folders to the PATH variable though.
Either way, the issue has been resolved.

It should definitely work if you added those folders to the PATH variable correctly - it has been tested by many users to work successfully. I am now curious on what sort of error you received but most likely you wouldn't have saved the output from those commands. In any case, as long as you got it working, it's all good. =)
EDIT: Just out of curiosity...did you copy and paste the commands there all together or did you enter them one by one?
Computerfreek274, maker of fine mofo-ready system images, has requested that someone who has taken the lollipop update provide him with a copy of their /system folder. Is there anyone out there who can help him (and all of us mofoers) out? If you want to step up, here's how (on a windows PC):
1. Enable developer options and usb debugging on your phone.
2. Install minimal adb and fastboot from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
3. Start the minimal adb and fastboot shortcut.
4. Plug your phone in to the computer.
5. Type adb start-server
6. Confirm the prompt on your phone to allow adb debugging.
7. Type adb devices. This will make sure that your device is connected.
8. Type adb pull /system <location on your computer>. For example, if I wanted to copy /system to C:\system, I would type adb pull /system C:\system
9. Use your favorite cloud service to upload it, and send a link to either myself or computerfreek. Or just post it here if you like.
Thanks in advance!

Edit: I guess that doesn't work.....I'm new to this uploading thing...
I'll let @computerfreek274 evaluate. In the future, it'll save some time to zip up the file

Thanks, but the contents of the system folder should be around 1.5 GB. It looks like what you uploaded is only around 60 MB.

Ok, after zipping it up I'm at 1.32 GB, but that's still too big to add as an attachment here.

I always use Google Drive when I want to share big files. You could give that a try.

You could use www.wetransfer.com to transfer large files. You'll just need the recipients email address, but its a great (free) way to send the files.

Yep. After you upload it, you should be able to get a link from google drive to allow others to download it. Go ahead and post it here. Sometimes xda is weird about posting links from other sites. If it doesn't let you do it, pm me the link and I'll get it to computerfreek.
If you refer to his Dropbox link, files are still being uploaded if you refresh it every once and awhile.

Ok, how do I monitor the upload progress? It's just sitting there in the Google Drive Folder, but obviously won't let me share it yet. Just want to be sure it is actually uploading before I step away

Ya, that's what I was thinking too, but it's probably too big cuz I didn't zip it down. But I guess it's there if it finishes before my Google Drive.

Assuming you're using Google Drive for windows, I think you can see the progress if you hover over or click on the google drive icon in the icon bar on the lower right corner of your desktop. Personally, I prefer the web interface.

Are your comments related to the LG G4? I don't understand the connection between your Boost Mobile LG Stylo 2, and the Sprint LG G4 discussion?
WoW
The directions pointed me to the right direction, no mention of HOW I found a download link, nor the fact a gui screen for username/password would be involved. Lets see, yeah also the fact using admin in username with nothing in password field GOT THE download....
Do you see a link posted for ny firmware?
Details like these being shared can, NO DO make the difference for others especially in a situation of having a device bricked...
But all your interested in is trying to point out something like your THE MODERATOR ON XDA & what? Didn't take the time to [email protected] your "thanks" meter but giving this poor attitude your exhibiting its probably 0....
Go figure
