Help me help computerfreek - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

Computerfreek274, maker of fine mofo-ready system images, has requested that someone who has taken the lollipop update provide him with a copy of their /system folder. Is there anyone out there who can help him (and all of us mofoers) out? If you want to step up, here's how (on a windows PC):
1. Enable developer options and usb debugging on your phone.
2. Install minimal adb and fastboot from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
3. Start the minimal adb and fastboot shortcut.
4. Plug your phone in to the computer.
5. Type adb start-server
6. Confirm the prompt on your phone to allow adb debugging.
7. Type adb devices. This will make sure that your device is connected.
8. Type adb pull /system <location on your computer>. For example, if I wanted to copy /system to C:\system, I would type adb pull /system C:\system
9. Use your favorite cloud service to upload it, and send a link to either myself or computerfreek. Or just post it here if you like.
Thanks in advance!

Does this work? I added it to my dropbox and here's a link to it.

I'll let @computerfreek274 evaluate. In the future, it'll save some time to zip up the file

Thanks, but the contents of the system folder should be around 1.5 GB. It looks like what you uploaded is only around 60 MB.

Ok, after zipping it up I'm at 1.32 GB, but that's still too big to add as an attachment here.

You could use www.wetransfer.com to transfer large files. You'll just need the recipients email address, but its a great (free) way to send the files.

Yep. After you upload it, you should be able to get a link from google drive to allow others to download it. Go ahead and post it here. Sometimes xda is weird about posting links from other sites. If it doesn't let you do it, pm me the link and I'll get it to computerfreek.

If you refer to his Dropbox link, files are still being uploaded if you refresh it every once and awhile.

Ok, how do I monitor the upload progress? It's just sitting there in the Google Drive Folder, but obviously won't let me share it yet. Just want to be sure it is actually uploading before I step away

Ya, that's what I was thinking too, but it's probably too big cuz I didn't zip it down. But I guess it's there if it finishes before my Google Drive.

Assuming you're using Google Drive for windows, I think you can see the progress if you hover over or click on the google drive icon in the icon bar on the lower right corner of your desktop. Personally, I prefer the web interface.

[Q] Where's the fixflash download link?

I checked the thread for it and i saw the direct download link and i clicked on it but it loaded a page with words about the process but no actual download occurred. Is fixflash still functioning?

read it again, and follow the instructions, for the love of god.
quoted from THAT thread:
FixFlash is very easy to use, and only requires that you do the following:
1. Copy FixFlash.sh to the root of your sdcard
2. Extract the zip of the ROM you want to flash to your phone on your computer. This is necessary for the verification process.
3. Copy both the original .zip file and the extracted folder of the .zip to the root of your sdcard
4. Boot into recovery and follow your normal flash procedure.
5. Once the flash has finished, but before doing anything else in Recovery, run this command from your computer's terminal/command prompt:
adb shell sh /sdcard/FixFlash.sh
You should see output in your terminal/command prompt indicating if there were any corrupted files encountered, and whether or not they were repaired. The whole process is fairly quick, and should only take a minute or so, depending on your sdcard speed.
6. Reboot your phone and enjoy!
At this point you can remove the extracted copy of the zip from your sdcard, its job is done!

Transparent/Blue Gmail!!!!

Here are a a few transparent and blue themed gmail apk"s. Uninstall your old gmail apk then either side load through something like dropbox or push via ABD, then sync it and enjoy!
Screenshots below are of the last two apks, and first is the same just a cyan color, enjoy!
Recently added newest version 2.3.5 Enjoy and hit the thanks button if you like please! Credit goes to Fernando Sor I just changed a few things around and added my own touch.
Love the transparency. The blue looks a bit aqua though. But very cool and much better than original. Thanks
Any pics?
edit: thanks for the pics!
Was going for more of a cyan color, can do whatever anyone likes, thank you

This is a themed standard gmail app, and not a themed gmail for honeycomb app right? Or did I do something wrong?
It doesn't have modules like the normal gmail for honeycomb.

If you've got the time ... I'd love to have a version that with a blue that is 4a92ce. (That is the same as the Moto X's email client and it looks pretty sick on the X).
EXAMPLE:
how to uninstall stock one ?
get a uninstaller from the market, should work fine, or use root explorer and delete it out of system/apps

Unistalled stock then installed either one and I keep getting fc's this was copy and paste from root explorer, can you put the adb instruction, also do I have to rename then to Gmail.apk...??
Thanks
You still have to install the apk not just copy and paste it. You should be able to load through dropbox and install there, it is free in the market, and you should not have to rename it.
Here is directions for adb
go to start-run-cmd
type in cd c:/android-sdk-windows/tools
then adb devices (to verify the connection)
It should say your connected and the specific number of your device
Next if you want to install something place it in the tools folder of the android-sdk-windows/tools folder
Then type this, adb push c:/android-sdk-windows/tools/(whichever you want).apk /system/app/(whichever apk you want).apk
To push you have to type the whole command line an example is adb push c:/android-sdk-windows/tools/vending.apk /system/app/vending.apk
Hope this help, let me know

[Q] Rooting my HTC one running 4.3 Android

Hey guys, I am very frustrated right now because I have been trying to root my phone for over 5 hours and have not gotten anywhere. This is my first time rooting, and I really would appreciate your guys knowledge and help. I have windows, and I have been reading and watching videos and downloading all kinds of things. I tried following the steps in htconeroot.com and I watched the whole video tutorial, and I couldn't even get the htc one root zip downloaded to my computer... Can someone please help me, I am completely lost. I feel like I have just been reading and trying things that are outdated and/or the links do not work anymore. Thank you very much, as I am in need right now and I would really like to get my phone rooted as soon as possible.
Thanks again!

Hey, thank you very much for helping out BD,
I am just learning all this stuff so sorry if I may not know what to do on very basic steps.
My first question is,
on step 5 on htcdev bootloader, it tells me to type in a command. I typed it and I got this, "fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"
Sorry man, if you get me through this lol I promise I will get you some fine Costa Rican coffee! I want to get it done, I hope you can be here guiding me and I am very thankful!
Howdy,
You need to download all the drivers and add bundle. Which OS do you use on your computer? For the adb get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474956
If you need any further assistance just tell and I can make a quick video for you.
Cheers

Open the cmd window from the folder with all the files that you downloaded
Download and install this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790 and check the desktop shortcut in the setup. Run the new desktop shortcut and type commands there. Put the unlock token bin in the install folder. You can do this by right clicking the shortcut and clicking open file location and drag the token there.
All the files are under download, I went to the cmd window and typed download. Man, I have no idea how to do any of this stuff. I am completely new to all of this. I downloaded the files but then I don't even know if I am suppose to do anything with them...
I will restart again, as if I have not downloaded anything at all...
My first steps should be following the bootloader instructions on HTCdev, and at step 4 I download the files and then extract them to another folder. Then I should go hit start, type cmd. Click cmd, and type that stuff? That is what I did, where did I go wrong?
If you can wait for a bit I can make a video guide, if you wish? Just tell, cheers

I really appreciate you guys on not giving up on me, BD should I download the root files before doing anything else?
Also, since I feel like an idiot about this stuff. Because everyone seems to have no problems and I can't even unzip a file or open a command. I had to google to even know what unzipping a file meant.
Is there any files I should have on my computer prior to attempting to download anything else in the guide? Also, should I just make a folder and name it something like androidroot, and then whenever I download a file, copy it to the desktop and try to open it?

It askes me to use a program to open the file with, the guy on the video is able to just save it with no problem on his desktop then move it to the root file. Whenever it gives me options to manually select the program I can choose to open the bin and I click the root folder, the options of programs it gives me are th HTC driver, fastboot, cmd, another folder saying stock recovery and boot images, and adb?
I have no clue, it doesn't give me an option to just save it to the desktop like how the guy in the vid did. Plus it says windows can't open the file and it asks me to search the web for a program to open the file or to just open the file with an already installed program, I just dont know what program to choose.
Thanks for sticking with me, really appreciate it.

Yeah I did both, the problem is it doesn't give me an option to save as because its on my email (gmail.) I'm using firefox webbrowser, the only options I have is to hit the download arrow or show in drive. If I right click it, the options are
back, forward, bookmark this page or save page as, background image. Just the regular options.

Whenever I open the cmd on the root folder, and type in adb reboot boot loader, it gave me a message saying device offline?
adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *
error: device offline
thats exactly what happened

Ok go into setting/about/software/more and tap the build number 7 times it will enable developer options
then go to settings/dev options and UNcheck then re-check USB Debugging you will now get a popup on your phone with an RSA number check the box that says always allow from this PC and hit OK.
Your device should show as device rather then offline

[APK Request] Car mode

Hello, I am running an ATT S5 and although there is the bloat were drive mode app I am looking for the stock car mode app and was hoping someone could upload the required APK for me as I cannot find it anywhere. Many thanks.
Edit: The S voice APK would also be most helpful.

I had previously found the S voice APK on Google, they never worked, always CTD on start, just had the idea to make it a system app and it worked so happy, happy. 2nd I am not looking for the AT&T app I want the Samsung car mode app, which is not on the playstore and I assume is hidden on the Galaxy store like the S voice app.

Install a launcher, Nova or Apex both work. Add a shortcut (system shortcut not apps) choose a setting short cut and look for Drive Mode. It also gives you the option to use Download Booster. Which AT&T has removed.
The drive mode is present in your phone, its only hidden cuz they want you to use their AT&T drive mode. Samsung one still exists! Hope this helps.
Are you running an S5, I am using a custom rom for my 900A, it lacks this function though even the nandroid backup lacks the required apk

Okay, here are the files from the /system/ directory of my own S5. Mine is the Sprint variant, however I'm confident that they're the same...
You CAN NOT flash this .zip in recovery, you must extract the contents and copy to the appropriate directories in the system partition.
Remember after you put them there, you must change the permissions for the folders and the files:
__________/rwxr-xr-x/ rw--r--r
/system/app/DriveLink/DriveLink.apk
________________________________
__________/___rwxr-xr-x___/ rw--r--r
/system/app/DriveLinkRemote/DriveLinkRemote.apk
___________________________________________
______/______/----------rwxr-xr-x----------/-----rw--r--r
system/priv-app/S-Voice_Android_phone/S-Voice_Android_phone.apk

Hope this helps someone... =3

No, you dont do that....
you do exactly what i explained....
download the .zip,
extract the contents to SD Card, (or ANY Download folder),
Once extracted, you will have simple directory, starting with "system/",
[ Now, you simply go thru the folders, and copy them from where you extracted them and paste into same folders in your phonephone's "system/" partition....]
Basically;
if you copy it from /system/app/DriveLink/DriveLink.apk on your SD Card,
Then you paste it to /system/app/DriveLink/DriveLink.apk on your phone...
Change permissions as i indicated earlier, as you copy each one,
When all are done, reboot. ..
[While booting back up a message will say something like
"Optimizing Application 1 of 3..."
thats a good sign that you did it right. ...]

Hi, thanks for the explanation, but I'm really new at this, and I need this application.
I do not understand, "Change permissions as I indicated earlier, as each copy"
that you mean this?, the only thing I see is that button "r-w and r-o" or you mean super user permissions?
------------read---------write---------execute
---owner--x-------------- x--------------
----group--x--------------x-------------
----Other--x------------- x------------
----set uid-----------set gid-------r sticky
hello ... when given permission to DriveLink, and drivelinkremote,
at 2 give them permission, but I did this to see if this well in owner, group, others, check all run.
restart, and indeed was installed when lit, but when I want to open, do not find in menu, and the car mode toggle of the active,
I get that you can not open out "car stopped mode"
Do you mean that the app is force-closing when it tries to open after toggling the 'car mode' quicksetting?

okay, hopefully this will answer any questions you have had or would have had...
I know its a little messy, but bear with me, I've never done a Screen Recording before...
Just read the instructions i posted above, watch the videos, and if you still dont get it, read and watch again...
remember to put things in the same folder paths you pull the from (the main difference between the two videos), etc...
Once all are done, reboot....

Are your comments related to the LG G4? I don't understand the connection between your Boost Mobile LG Stylo 2, and the Sprint LG G4 discussion?
WoW
The directions pointed me to the right direction, no mention of HOW I found a download link, nor the fact a gui screen for username/password would be involved. Lets see, yeah also the fact using admin in username with nothing in password field GOT THE download....
Do you see a link posted for ny firmware?
Details like these being shared can, NO DO make the difference for others especially in a situation of having a device bricked...
But all your interested in is trying to point out something like your THE MODERATOR ON XDA & what? Didn't take the time to [email protected] your "thanks" meter but giving this poor attitude your exhibiting its probably 0....
Go figure
Geezzzz
