Because you have external memory. We using internal

Given that I have seen several threads with people trying to root JB 4.3 on the TX, just wanted to share that since day 1 I've been using the kernel stated here with both the leaked version and the official USA version, which has CWM (touch enabled) with which you can then flash SuperSu and have root.
Of course, you need to unlock your bootloader in order to flash that kernel.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't you just back up your DRM keys (TA_Backup), unlock BL, flash kernel, flash SuperSU (gain root access, obviously), restore TA partition (TA_backup), which restores your locked bootloader (and you don't lose Bravia Engine)?
I'm pretty sure I still had root after restoring my TA partition on JB 4.1.2 (locked bootloader, with CWM and root).
Also, I've had no issues whatsoever with that kernel, about +/- 2 days of battery life on one charge, no reboots, etc.

Yes, although that's the only thing Backup-TA-9.10 does, it's only for your TA partition. I just remembered that you obviously have to have root access in order for Backup-TA to work, which I already had since I was on the leaked version of 4.3, so obviously I had root since 4.1.2, backed up my TA partition, and then flashed leaked 4.3.
I unlocked and relocked my bootloader several times, each time it worked perfectly. Just follow instructions.

Well, you don't need CWM yet. The point is unlocking the bootloader so that you can flash the kernel I linked to above. Once you have an unlocked bootloader, you can flash any of the official 4.3 FTF files, and then flash the kernel, which comes with CWM.
Now, I backed up my TA partition while on 4.1.2, and only relocked the bootloader also while on 4.1.2, NOT 4.3, but since the DRM keys depend on your IMEI (as far as I know) and not on what ROM you're using, I don't see why there should be a problem. And since it does not affect the kernel or boot partition, your CWM should remain intact (AFAIK).
The good thing is that Backup-TA-9.10 has an option to just do a "dry-run restore". What this does is basically test the restore of the TA partition to see if all is good, and that way you don't need to actually risk something without knowing the outcome. If it detects it will fail, it will let you know, and you won't have had to restore something that would fail.
As you can see in the attached image, I did a "dry-run" restore (Backup made on 4.1.2 Global, and I'm currently on 4.3 USA official), and it detected no errors, so it would essentially relock your bootloader and restore your DRM keys. I haven't restored it because I have no interest in a locked bootloader, nor do I want to experiment with my phone right now.
As a reminder: Only restore your own TA partition/DRM keys; flashing one that does not belong to your phone will hardbrick it beyond recovery.
Edit: Found a post which supports my claim that relocking BL won't affect root.

Root Guide For 4.2.2

All credit goes to @zhuhang. I have no contribution to it.
Original thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45344021
This method will help you gain root access on the latest .67 4.2.2 update that Sony recently pushed out.
Disclaimer:
- This requires a PC.
- No CWM needed.
- This installs a Chinese root manager rather than superuser or superSU. But I will teach you how to replace it below.
Instruction:
1. Download the rooting application. (This app can root many other devices )
VRoot_1.6.0.3690
http://www.mediafire.com/download/v3...3690_Setup.exe
2. Install the app. This is a Chinese app so I will guide you. Below is a step by step screenshot attached guide.
3. Start VROOT and root now!
4. Now we need to install SuperSU from play store to replace the Chinese root manager called 授权管理 1.0.4.
5. Go to play store and install SuperSU.
6. Start SuperSU and you will be asked for permission by 授权管理 1.0.4, choose 允许(means allow). (Should be the right side option.)
7. SuperSU will prompt to install SU binary, go ahead with OK and it will display successful.
8. Now, freeze 授权管理 1.0.4 in titanium backup, just in case you need it again.
Note: If you uninstall straight away from app manager, you need to make sure SuperSU updated the binary.
9. Re-run SuperSU to make sure everything is alright. You will be prompt again to install SU binary, just do what it asked.
10. After that, you are rooted with SuperSU and 授权管理 1.0.4 will not be there anymore.

Can someone upload an ftf with just the kernel.sin and bootloader.sin for the C5503? I tried creating one using C5502 kernel and i got stuck in a boot loop. luckily my battery was just at about 10% and so I quickly flashed back the 4.2.2 Kernel of the 5503 and all is well.
Once we get the kernel only ftf, can test and create guide for rooting 5503 on 4.2.2

Tried with the C5503 kernel. Same boot loop. I think we'll have to find an alternate root method, as unlike the Z, the ZR doesnt have .234 firmware [that is also 4.2]
Experimenting with the Z firmware. Wish me luck
Why not flash only kernel from the previous firmware? Isn't working?
UPD. I see - not work

Firstly you need to unlock your bootloader. Google that, its easy. OR you can do it through flashtools (not tested).
Enable USB Debugging and unknown sources option on your phone before proceeding.
Download Flashtool, Open it. Flash the the kernel of an old firmware of Xperia ZR which was rootable.
Reboot your Xperia ZR after flashing. Connect to PC in USB Debugging mode.
Do not forget to close FLASHTOOL.
Extract the downloaded “DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip” file and run the “runme_win” file.
Follow onscreen instructions to root Xperia ZR and once it is rooted, device will reboot. Verify that you are rooted, run SuperSU app.
Now switch off your Xperia ZR. OPEN FLASHTOOL.
Now you need to flash the true kernel of Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware of Xperia ZR.
After flashing, disconnect the phone from PC, reboot it and your Xperia ZR is now rooted

So basically you're doing:
Use FlashTool to flash the 4.2.2 FTF
Downgrade the kernel by using FlashTool back to 4.1.2
Run the DoomLord rooting kit
Flash back 4.2.2 kernel using FlashTool
To flash the kernel you need an unlocked bootloader. What I don't understand is how to flash the kernel only? I found the kernel.sin inside the FTF file. Can I just delete other .sin file and flash the remaining FTF file?
Sorry if my questions are noob.

You need to keep the kernel.sin and bootloader.sin in the ftf and delete the rest. Also don't delete the META-INF file.

The problem is the bootloader? I thought doom's thread said that this was for locked and unlocked bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader will lead to a lot of people avoiding the root method.

Yes. I fixed the bootloop issue. Need any help with the bootloop?
If you've got a bootloop, pull the battery asap as once it dies, you won't be able to flash ftf and the device will be bricked.
To fix bootloop [and still not get root access]
1. Open the 4.2.2 ftf file in flashtool.
2. Exclude everything [tick in the exclude box] except the kernel, and untick everything in the wipe box [data, applog]
3. Flash the kernel by pressing the volume down button while plugging in USB cable [DONT PRESS POWER BUTTON AFTER BATTERY PULL AS OTHERWISE YOU'LL GO BACK INTO BOOTLOOP]
4. After it flashes [should take a couple of seconds], reboot and you should be back to normal
I REPEAT PULL THE BATTERY IF IN A BOOTLOOP OR YOU'LL LAND UP WITH ANOTHER PAPERWEIGHT

So again you're not successful in rooting 4.2.2 using the kernel switching method?
i think the kernel switching fix will not work on ZR.. we don't have a rootable 4.2 kernel
i think the 423 kernel is 4.2

It happened to me also, but it's possible to recover from it.
Install PC Companion on your PC.
Go to Support Zone.
First option -> Update phone / tablet software.
You will see a underlined link that says "repair phone / tablet"
Just follow the instructions.
You will need your phone to have at least 50% battery level. Take out the battery, insert again, and connect your phone to your PC via USB while pressing the Volume + button. You will hear a sound coming from your PC meaning it's been connected.
Sony PC Companion then will flash your phone with the latest firmware. It takes a while and you need to have internet connection, but it works.
As you flashed the Russian system rom, the firmware installed in your phone by Sony PC companion will be the Russian Android 4.2.2. No problem with this as it includes all the languages.
Do this as soon as possible as you need your battery charged and you can't charge the battery in your phone while in the bootloop state.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not sure what we did wrong to be stuck in a bootloop, but after my ZR being reflashed by Sony PC Companion I just flashed the Nordic 4.2.2 ROM and my phone remains unrooted until there is a easier method to get root

[Q] Cant Access Internal Memory Through PC

Hey guys,
New to Xperia SP modding, just rooted my phone following the instructions on the forums, unlocked my bootloader and flashed CWM recovery.
Since then I have tried to access my storage through PC to drop in some ROMS, and I get 'Error: device has been removed' messages.
It allows me to copy from the device but not to it.
If I change the storage method to MSC I can copy to external storage but CWM calls the ROM's bad files.
I have tried fix permissions, wipe dalvik and a full factory reset. No luck whatsoever.
Anyone offer any advice please?

have you tried using different usb ports on your computer? check the size of the rom file, if its below 500 mb the download was probably corrupt.
Start again. Flash a stock ROM using flash tools, flash a kernel tha already has CWM in it and auto roots - check everything works.
Sounds like something has gone wrong along the way - someone may be able to help, but rather than waiting for an answer, it's sometimes best/quicker to do all the steps again. Unless your phone has faulty hardware, the vast majority of problems can be solved this way.

Xperia SP 4.3 by DooMLoRD

Hello. I did all the steps in DooMLoRD's post, but there is something wrong. The phone is freezing all the time and really slow. After this 1 message appears "System UI has stopped" and then it works better, but when i try to start a game... "(name of the game) has stopped". I ask other guys, but they dont have problens like that on this ROM.
Can you tell me why is that? Thanks in advance!
Did you wipe your phone before installing? Try to install the DooMLoRD's rooted kernel and do a wipe in Recovery. Then, install the ROM again.

As long as your bootloader is unlocked root is not important for flashing this ROM. And if you already managed to install custom kernel (for example for aosp based rom) then you successfully unlocked your bootloader. Maybe as the previous post said, try to install DooMLoRD's kernel (The old one) then reboot recovery, wipe, flash 4.3 zip and it should work

Flash stock .254 ftf
Then root and install cwm by locked bootloader method

Of course, cause u havent flashed the rom yet! You only flash the kernel, not the rom.
Now do it exactly as you did before, but after flashing the kernel and rebooting, tap the volume uo button continuously until you boot into cwm. And then you can flash the rom through cwm.
Dont forget to copy the zip in your ext sdcard before flashing the kernel!

Root & Unlock Bootloader for Xperia TX Latest Version

Hi. I wasn't able to understand the process of doing this to Sony devices cause I'm not used to all these sub-branches of steps for slightly different variations and software versions, lol, I understand this is a lot of n00bness for you guys.
I have a stock, legal Xperia TX, software version 9.2.A.1.199 and I want to get it to the point where I can flash custom ROMs. What do I do with it? Sorry for asking, I appreciate any help. :]

You can most likely only flash custom ROMs (that come with a custom kernel) if you have an unlocked bootloader; so first find out if you can unlock it.

What do I do after that? I'm following the instructions here http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions but installing CWM and rooting for my device and it's software version is where I'm at a loss.

Before unlocking your bootloader, I'd backup my TA partition which backs up your DRM keys. If you don't do that, you'll lose them forever (AFAIK), which means no more Bravia Engine. Look for "Backup-TA-9.10" in XDA and/or Google. You need root to do this, which means you'd have to go back to 4.1.2, because there are no methods currently available for rooting 4.3 without an unlocked bootloader.
Once you do that, or if you don't care, and you do upgrade back up to 4.3, flash this kernel, which comes with two recoveries, and then flash any custom ROM you want.
Although, if you do go back to 4.1.2 in order to backup your TA partition, then you can easily root 4.1.2, install CWM, and flash your custom ROM from there, no need to go back up to 4.3.
u can use this.. im also using tx
Hello!!! Aha...so you have troubles? and you need help? OK
Dont worry wetry to help each other in this hard situation...
On Russian site 4pda.ru there is a method to hove root, deodex, CWM on JB 4.3 (295).
Follow carefully the instruction below:

First of all you need to get back to SXTX JB 4.1.2 firmware (67), root it and CWM (if you have problems with here some steps):
1. Download a SXTX JB 4.1.2 firmware (67) for ex.: this 67
2. extract the zip put the .ftf firmware to flashtool/firmware folder
3. Start flashtool, press flash/flashmode choose you ftf and press flash, when the guide winow popups up turno f your phone, then hold volume down (-) button and connect to PC. After installation let settle up your phone!
Rooting SXTX JB 4.1.2 firmware (67):

2. if everything goes well your must be rebooted (if my memory didnt mistaken) and in app drawer you will see Superuser shortcut.
CWM for SXTX JB 4.1.2 firmware (67):
1. Extract CWM4XperiaT_v6i_JB.
2. Conect your phone to PC and start the .bat file which inside CWM4XperiaT_v6i_JB folder then look at your phone and press "OK".
Once you get rooted, CWM SXTX JB 4.1.2 firmware (67) here is the steps for TX 4.3 root & deodex for LB
1. Go to CWM and do all wipes (data, cache, dalvik)
2. Flash TX LT29i 4.3 295 deodex flashable04.zip. Dont reboot!!! Stay in recovery!!!
3. Flash UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.93.zip. Dont reboot!!! Stay in recovery!!!
4. Go to Advenced menu and choose Power OFF!!!! Dont turn on your phone!!!!
5. Start Flashtool and press flash/flashmode then choose Xperia_TX_LT29i 9.2.A.0.295 USA kernelonly.ftf, press flash and when the guide window popups up conect your phone to PC with holding Volume Down (-) button.

Now you have Root 'n' Deodex
CWM installation
1. In developer options on your phone check on the "USB debugging mode" (if you dont know how to enter to dev. opt. go to about menu in settings and tap around 7 times the build number stroke!!! then go out to settings and the dev. option will shown upper about menu!!!!)

dual recovery is the "recovery" for your device. you can wipe data, cache, dalvik and etc on in. and using it, you can make nandroid backups, flash mods, and other fun stuff. To access it, turn you phone off. Then turn it back on, be ready because it should flash a GREEN led light suddenly, once it lights up click either up or down volume until the color changes. Down volume = TWRP, Up volume = Philz touch I THINK. not sure with the up volume. i use TWRP for backups and mods and roms.
Thanks

Root Z1. KitKat 4.4.X
Hello everybody!
I am a new member here and i would like to share how i root my Xperia Z1 (C6903) KitKat 4.4.4. Version 14.4.A.0.108 with
stock Firmware and locked bootloader.
So, i have tried to root my phone with different flashtools, installed drivers etc etc but no luck. Finally i came over this page;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/development/newroot-z1-t2807092
First: I disabled any antivirus, malwareprogram it can give a false viruswarning and remove the file. I extracted the program Newroot to my desktop (How to find the program see above link).
On the phone: I went to settings/about the phone, scrolled down to the bottom to: Version, tapped version several times (for me 7 times) and a popup comes up and say you are now a developer. Now i set the developer options to ON and enabled USB-debugging. As default i also have enabled installation from unknown resources and unchecked the box Verifying apps. (Settings/SecurityUnknown resources/Verifying apps).
Now, I connected my phone to the PC with the USB-cable. Started the program Newroot from desktop, in the popup of the program i see that option "Check this to root your phone" is set by default. Now i just hit proced button and the rooting started, kept an eye on my phone and the phone rebooted. That was all and i had rooted phone with the superuser app in the apps section! :victory:. For some users first root does not work properly. If not sure you have completely root, check root with: Check Root. You can find it on Google store here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avaranasoftware.checkroot
If there is any error-messages, or if it says that busybox is not installed, use the Newroot program again to Unroot the phone instead. After unroot use Newroot program again to Root your phone. After reboot check again with Check Root, now everything should be fine. and both superuser app and busybox should be installed.
Good luck!
Note: Above is only a description of how i successfully rooted my phone. So i don´t take any responsibility for any eventual problems for others who root their phone.
Huge thanks to munjeni for this awesome program! :highfive:

So if i unroot the phone first, and then access recovery mode and choose that option, will it be the same as factory reset and i can use warranty of the phone if needed?

If you unroot the phone you will lose recovery.
If you want to unroot the easiest way is just to flash a stock FTF using flashtool.
And rooting does not void the warranty, only unlocking the bootloader does that

Now a couple of days i used the Newroot tool. I have installed some utilities with functions that requires root. Root Manager app says i have the Clockworkmod and most functions in that program does not work, and Titanium backup pro complains that my CVM- Superuser program can cause some functions to work improperly, and i should update my binaries to SuperSU for the program to work properly.
I installed SuperSU and in recoverymode i got the question if i wanted to "install the untrusted SuperSU Zip and this can not be undone". I chose no because i was not sure what could happen so i reboot the phone and after that i was not rooted anymore, i checked with root checker and my programs that requires root did not function. So i rooted the phone again with Newroot and i got root again and all problems were gone, root access was granted to all programs that required root, except for root manager...
So i googled about Clockworkmod and that mod is rarely used for the Z1-model, most used for Samsung and HTC.
So i wonder if i backup all my data via PC-Companion, can i choose "repair the phone" and it will turn back the phone to it´s original state?
Or do i have to flash the phone myself with a stock rom? I have search for my stock rom everywhere and i cannot find it. But with PC-Companion is it possible to return the phone to it´s original state?
Force a repair with pccompanion to return your phone to factory state

Successfully returned it to factory state. Pressed *#*#7378423#*#* and checked, and everything is exactly as it was when i was rooted, so i assume the Newroot prog did nothing to my phone except for rooting it and installed recovery?
Anyway, maybe i will root my phone again now when i know it is possible to turn it back to stock to get the benefits from root.
Huge thanks gregbradley you made my day! :good: :victory:
No worries.
Yes the newroot process only roots the phone, it does nothing to the bootloader
