I have the same problem , my charging time is almost the same as you ,someone said it is relative to the USB cable .
the one that comes in box is ec801.
sorry for my terrible English.
thnx 4 replying....yea i too think it is usb problem! so should i get a ec-801 cable?

In my opinion,It's relative to the USB cable's resistance. so it's up 2 you or you can choice a another one .it doesn't matter.
you can check the charging current by yourself with Galaxy Charging Current on google play.
by the way , Google is very powerful tool you should konw..

Hi!
I am building a special car charger for my galaxy s.
I put the 5V to MicroUSB VCC and also GND...
The phone is charging.
Here the problem:
I'm using tasker app to detect many phone states and automatically switch some features when pluging in some devices. I noticed that the normal galaxy s charger is detected as normal power supply. My method with just VCC=5V makes the phone think that there is a usb cable on it. So it says: Charging with USB power.
I started thinking about how the normal power supply tells the phone that it is no USB. First I thought of the 5th pin (pin 4: ID) on the micro USB connector. Later I noticed that it seems that the normal charger does not has this pin. So it should be open circuit like I have on my charger...
Does anybody know what the normal charger does to tell the phone it is a normal charger?
Additional story:
I found another usb device with micro usb which is charging with the normal charger only! With normal usb cable it is not possible to charge it. Right now I can't charge this device with my car adaptor.
What sets the charging type is the resistance between the data pins. USB charging will be limited to about 500mA, a plain charger can deliver more current, thus reducing charge time. Somewhere on XDA resistor values are listed for various modes but this site has a really bad search engine.

you are right!
normally nobody dares to say something bad about this site. Don't get me wrong... The information and the community is awesome but the search engine is awful.
But google works still OK
Refer to the thread: Click and look for post 60 to start from there are some interesting conclusions, e.g. in post 71 as well...
My motoroid xt720 is having problem with battery charging and usb connection with PC through the phone USB small port:
-2 days ago I restored to original EU rom through this port successfully. Before this point of time, battery charging and usb connection with PC through the phone USB small port was OK.
-then I can not charge the battery and or connect to the PC through the usb cable via phone small usb port. However, I can now still use the same usb cable and port to restoreoriginal EU rom for the phone and use the same charger to charge the battery with external charging pad (not through phone.)
I use another charger with small usb port to charge the battery through the XT720 phone but it still can not charge.
Installing the new customed rom CronosX, but the same problem happen.
So I guess that the USB port on the phone has hardware issues or software issues with the phone.
Can someone give me advice how to check or fix this error? Thanks!
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
you can get those cheap ebay wall charger for stand alone battery which comes with several free batteries
i'm using them and they work great
i'm using them and they work great too!
Yes, I got charged with other charger - thanks for advice!

I don't know , but I think even if you were able to charge via usb it will took very long time in order to full charge it because capacity of battery is big
Need to make your self a universal usb charging adapter, look it up on here.
Works and been tested with 7.7 aswell!
You need to solder resisters 33k and 10K To the data and power lines...
Look for it in 10.1 forum
How to make your own universal charger for galaxy tab.

Do you mean D+ and D- lines of USB need to be pulled up ? and which D line should have 33k or 10k ?
Link please .
yes thats the one..
(make sure you join the resistors to each other at the middle aswell.)
Look at the resisters you use and make sure they are both facing the same direction. My first attempt to do it failed and at first i thought it didnt work on 7.7
Then i noticed one resister was back to front.not 100 percent sure if this was the problem but after i changed this from looking at pictures online and comparing the pics to my resisters i noticed what end the 2 colored bands are at.the 33k one with the gold bands and the 10k one with dual black bands.
The end of the restister with the gold bands(33k) and Black bands(10k)
is the end that the power joins to.
The other end of the resister should have matching bands on 10k and 33k.
this is the end that joins to the data line.

once i left my turned-off 7.7 connected to my running PC for few hours, to my surprise the battery seems to be charged-up during that time
yup... its still charging... but slowly...
Actually you could get faster charging with that USB data cable when the PC has been installed with the proper drivers. The standard downstream port could deliver up to 500mA ONLY after the USB hub has negotiated power draws with the host interface. Otherwise the port might just deliver less that 100mA power.
Kies provides the suitable driver. You may uninstall Kies afterward and keep the driver installed.
In addition, PCs have two kinds of USB port — standard downstream port and charging downstream port. Some older PC would label them 'SDP' and 'CDP', but I found that most modern PCs don't distinguish them at all. As you might imagine, you could get faster charging plugging into a CDP than into a SDP.
FYI., those ports used in wall charger is the third kind of USB port, CP - Charging Port.
Hi!
After installed the Battery HD soft, when link with PC, That programe showing the charging time and progress charge. but still not sure.
I am charging via USB as we speak.
I am doing it using a standard mincroUSB cable (that I use to charge my GNote and SGS2) and added an adapter I got on eBay for my SGT10.1
You can pick one up here: http://goo.gl/EMzpJ
It's not as efficient as the AC charger but it's doing a good job and will get you by if you haven't got access to a power point.
Can use this hub to charge as well
This SIIG INC - SYNC/CHARGING HUB AND READER FOR GALAXY TABLETS - CE-H21112-S1 gives you the capability to charge your Tab through a computer USB port. Seems to work pretty good used it last night. Checked the net prices vary per vendor.

The connector on the 7.7 tab is exactly the same as on P1000. There is no trouble in charging.
My original cable came with the tab allows me to charge via USB @ my laptop, but the charging speed is very slow. So I prefer to use an external portable charger over this most of the time. Not sure if there are any apps or software that allows fast charge kinda stuff?
Hello, I forget to read the DK31 manual and use my DK31 connect to PC USB port. (the manual said do not connect to that port, use only AC adapter). I use it for a week, and I concern about bad effect with my z1. Is my device will damage or have any problem? What is the bad effect that will happen to my phone? To think about this, it make a crazy. Please help me!!!

Thats because the USB port does not have the enough power to supply the charger, the charger works with 1500mAh and the USB port 3.0 "only" with 900 max, that means that it will take longer to charge your phone and the dock and phone could over heat. Besides doing this often you will be decreasing the battery life of your Xperia Z1

Thank for you reply. But I have another question.
So, you mean that charging via usb port connect to PC (mini usb port not the magnetic) is not recommend too?
And I confuse about this --> I think, Charging with High current will be hotter, so AC adapter with 1500 mA must be drain my battery life more than USB (via PC)?.

In USB charging mode, your Android device charges slowly, only drawing a maximum of 500ma from the USB host device, even if that device is a USB charger that is capable of supplying much more power, this means that your phone will take longer to charge, but there are cases where this process makes your phne overheat
there are several opinions about USB charging, the 2 most commons are. 1 your phone takes longer to charge and the battery charges better, and 2. the battery takes longer to charge and the battery life decreases.
So, in my opinion, I use the dock and the battery life is great, almost 18 hours with 4.5 hours on screen,
maybe you should make some test and post how was it
PS in all opinions some says that the battery life increases and other says that decreases, in both cases i think you will never notice

Hi I have an international rooted Galaxy S-III i9305, bought it in June . The charging has been unstable, as in sometimes it would charge up just fine while sometimes it even discharges when charging. I went to the Samsung service center and they gave me a new charger without checking my phone. The problem persists. I borrowed another charger from a friend and the same thing happens. I bought a new port connector and same results ..
I came across an app in the XDA forum, Galaxy Charging Current. Tested it to realise that it's the phone problem it should show 1000ma but it show 1000ma sometimes and 500ma sometimes and 100ma sometimes ... , I had to keep reconnecting the charger to obtain an efficient charge and its not stable it change :\ :'( im really tired i hope you can help me .. I tryed to change my android version (4,4,4) and i flashed unofficial cm12 but no way
Go into battery section on settings.
While it's charging , does it states USB or CA ?

First, use imgur.com
Second, change your language to English, the French translations does not ditinguish between USB and AC charging (just for this test, you can revert after)
Then, plug in your wall charger. It should say Charging on AC or Charging on USB. Check it.

Looks like your USB port is about to die. Had mine to repair twice because my phone wouldn't charge or be recognized via PC. Pretty common issue of the S3.
