[Q] guys i'm quite simply lost - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so I haven't used my captivate in over an year and just got it back from a friend so wanted to put Omni or one of them 4.4 roms but they all require 6.0.4.4 cwm or TWRP and ive been using i317 note 2 so flashing method is different on that, according to the guides I read for captivate, they all suggest flashing a kernel to get the recovery, but I was wondering if that is the only way and if someone could give me the link to the kernel to get the up to date recoveries and if the same mode of just flashing the recovery works, please link me to the page coz I have searched and searched and can't find it anywhere, even on cwm's main website they've listed only CWM 2.5. Please help me.

just download the neat kernel from the development section and just flash the 1.04 version, and reboot the recovery..
you will be in CWM 6.0.4.6
and then you can flash the KK roms which you like..

Thank u so much, been wracking my brains trying to figure out what to do, thank u so so much mate

Sorry dude. Start reading the stickies. Get used to the idea that you need to figure out the simple things by actually reading stuff. After some personal input, people are of course prepared to answer any questions you have might have.

First off, this thread is in the wrong section. This is not development related.
Second, since its been asked anyway, you could start off by searching and reading stickes as suggested by androidsjonnie
And my suggestion is to decide on a custom ROM to use and follow the install instructions provided for that ROM. AFAIK, by default samsung rom's, cannot be flashed using clockwork recovery. you will have to rely on odin for them.
And if you just need clockwork recovery, you start by downloading ROM Manager.
**** Topic name !
Read Stickys and learn to use the Search Function !
don't be hard on the iPhone user! we all know how they are..
If you've read the info on ClockWork recovery.. It needs a compatible Kernel to work.. so checkout the kernels at the dev't section..

Flashing speedmod Kernel!!

Can any in expert tell me if i can flash speedmod galaxy note kernel on litening note rom 2.0 and please best way to do it?
Why should they tell you?
Everythings written in the sticky posts and in the specific kernel or rom threads.
The best way to do is reading yourself.

installing a kernel can be done three ways
1 pc odin
2 moile odin
3 clock work mod recovery
in GB based rom I prefer CWMR
@ics based rom I prefer to use mobile odin
cheers
I used the search with "litening rom speedmod" here:

and many more of this.

Goto Original Android Development forum, search Philz thread and choose a kernel fitting for your Rom.
Install it and you get what you want.

[Q] Uninstall CWM? N7000B

Hi all
Hopefully I am posting this in the right place.
I am in the process of learning how to flash custom ROMs etc. My phone is currently rooted and I am thinking of installing CWM from ROM manager so that I can update to a newer Android version.
My understanding is that if I backup my stock ROM with CWM before I flash a custom ROM I can go back to my original ROM but the kernal / CWM recovery will remain
My main question is how do I "uninstall" CWM later if I wanted to return my phone to a stock warranty state. I believe that flashing a stock kernel will achieve this, however, I haven't been able to locate a procedure and the files specific to my phone's model (GT-N7000B, on 4.1.2).
Thanks in advance
Please visit this thread for all that you require for root/unrooting a GNote courtesy of dr.ketan:good:

You will definitely find your answer.

Thanks for link. There seems to be a wealth of info there. Apologies for a silly question but may I ask what is the best way to navigate this thread since there are 280 odd pages. There is a guide at the beginning, but it appears to be the oldest post. Would it be better to work from the newer pages and work backwards (from page 280). I did a quick search in the thread but did not see much reference to the N7000B. Hopefully it is fully compatible with the guides and files for the N7000.
Thanks

The first posts are updated with any newer roms and procedures, all the info is at the beginning. Personally I read through the last 10 or so pages to familiarise myself with things to watch out for or avoid.
N7000B is compatible with N7000 roms and rooting.

[Q] Can't flash PhilZ Touch CWM6 [solved by myself]

Hi guys, I'm running stock ROM 4.1.2 rooted with stock recovery and want to flash KitKat on there. I've flashed custom ROMs and CWM before so this isn't that new really, but this phone has me baffled. I just can't seem to flash PhilZ Touch CWM6 on there. I've tried via stock recovery loading the .zip from there but comes up with an error, and I tried flashing from Odin3 too, but that also reports failed.
Also I'm using the official zip from PhilZ thread too.
Could someone shade some light here for me please? Thanks in advanced!
Wrong thread... Disregard.

Hi,
I see you've already posted this question in your device section. Asking in the Philz thread may be an idea too.
If you've read the stickies at the top of this section you'd understand XDA Assist is here to help members navigate the site, not for support. And you already knew where to post.
Thanks for understanding. Thread closed.

Sorry I did read after. I've now solved my problem and successfully installed PhilZ Touch. I got the link to the official download but the tutorial linked to the wrong version for my kernel.
This thread can now be closed
