Hi guys,
I have an Android 4.3, rooted, TWRP recovery, HTC One that I encrypted my device back in November, due to security policy. Now, I've just today received the notification telling me that I have the update to 4.4.2 available, and I'm quite keen to make the move.
Only problem is the encryption - obviously I need to flash the stock recovery back to do the OTA, but I 99% expect the OTA will lose me my root? With my device encrypted, will there be any way to retrieve root without having to factory reset? I'm guessing TWRP has not yet managed to set up decryption on HTC yet?
Thanks guys, cheers for the help. How is the update anyway?

Hi all,
I have a few questions that burn me. Just received the OTA notification that .569 is available (304.4 MB)
I am running .67 with stock recovery, root and phone encryption. Will those be preserved if i OTA update ?

AFAIK root is lost and recovery is rewritten. I don't use phone encryption but I guess it is ok (or it would be stupid of Sony).
My experience has always been that OTA updates break root, and most of the time you wont be able to get it back until there is an exploit for the new firmware
4.3 OTA update will take away root and you will be unable to root under 4.3 directly.
You have to use the root methods shown as below(root under 4.2-flash another recovery-flash pre-root 4.3).

OTA left my root as it is. Check my post, how I did it:

This was the first OTA that broke my root, even with supersu in survival mode.
I updated ota from 4.2 to 4.3 and kept root.

Hello,
Let me start by just saying that I'm very new to the whole rooting and android development scene and I'm.sorry in advance if this question is noobish. Anyway I have an at&t HTC one m7 that I unlocked the bootloader on, flashed twrp and rooted. The device was working fine no issues ,recently there was an ota update that my brother got for his all stock m7. So I flashed an img of the stock recovery and relocked the bootloader in hopes of having the update install. I know it would remove my root access but I didn't mind that .
Anyway now my device is telling me there is no more ota updates available.
This is odd because I tried to do the update before changing anything back a nd it got stuck when twrp launched .so there is an update available.
Is this normal or is something wrong? thanks!
Edit, i cant words
I have only used HTC devices going back to the G1 and rooted everyone. I want to update my nexus 6 to 5.1 from 5.01. Now I will never lock my bootloader and in no way or form install a factory recovery unless the device is getting shipped back. Is there anything special hidden in a partition or something I am missing? Can't I just dirty flash a stock ROM and then flash say the radio IMG and be fully updated? Is there like hidden firmware somewhere that I am missing? I just don't understand why people are doing everything the hard way for an update.
Hey All,
I don't even know if this is at all possible, but I need to restore my HTC One M8 (Sprint) to factory (unrooted with stock Sprint software). I'm currently on 5.0.1 and keep getting a message that there's an update. When I download it, it will not install. It reboots into recovery,
attempts to install, and then fails because of a bad fingerprint.
Details:
- Rooted
- Unlocked
- S-ON
- 5.0.1 ported GPE
Any help at all would be appreciated. If nothing else, I'd just like the damn notification to go away since I can't actually update it.

You need to have stock recovery and a stock rom for it to work.
Try if you can get the Nandroid backed up file
