Hey guys
so my friend has an Atrix HD, and he wants to flash KitKat on it.
but it was originally locked to AT&T so he unlocked it..
anyways, would flashing any ROM get rid of the unlock?
or would it possibly brick the device or anything?
thanks )
I bought my device already unlocked by the seller. I have flashed it at least 20 times and nothing has happened yet.
Mine was ATT and unlocked it and now i use it with tmo. I have flashed the phone over 1000 times on many different roms and betas i have done. Atrix HD is heavy duty i guess. Lol
It shouldn't ever mess up the unlock. Roms don't mess with the sim lock.
alright thanks so much guys i'll be trying KK on the phone later

I'm more than likely going to be putting my AHD up for sale on ebay in the next couple of weeks and I need to know what all I should do before selling it. I'm assuming take it back to stock ROM. Since the bootloader is unlocked I should just advertise that as a feature maybe? I've never sold a phone like this. I'm not sure how to list it since it's boot loader unlocked, rooted, and has slimbeam ROM on it, Do I take it back to stock and list it as stock ROM, rooted, Bootloader unlocked?
**I'm currently drunk so sorry if this doesn't make sense.
first of all after you snap out of it
first thing to do is bring it back to stock then delete all your personal stuff and if the phone has a Sd card keep it also give a reasonable price to the phone and list all the features and happy selling
Look for an app called nuke my phone on play store.

Fastboot a stock, do a full factory reset (I recommend Bell JB since it has the most Locales -- language support -- and is the same as Mex Retail other than that...like a one week difference in the build dates)
Install CWM and do the install-recovery.sh tweak
Root it
List it as a Stock Rooted Phone with CWM & Unlocked Bootloader. Provide a link to us. Let the buyer decide what to do from there.
That gives the the best of both worlds -- a stable stock rom, root, and CWM to do backups and restores.
So I just got my note 3 n900A att model about 2 months ago. last month the lollipop update pushed to my phone and I was happy but then I started working on rooting. I successfully downgraded my phone to 4.4.4 then to 4.4.2 by following guids on here and on another webiste that instructed me to use odin and then I rooted. Right now I am on Biggons rom and it is beautiful. I have been using safestrap to flash custom roms for this n900A.
I am however interested in trying to obtain a custom kernal and the bootloader being locked is frustrating. To my peasant understanding there isnt a option as of yet to get around the bootloader. please correct me here if I am wrong.
Are any developers working on this? Is it even possible to work on this? Am I just completed F'ed unless I went out and got a different variant of this phone with an unlocked bootloader?
lastly! Im curious if it is possible to turn my phone into a developer edition? that might be just a repeat version of my previous question. excuse my ignorance. I am new to this phone and boot locks n the what not.

Was bootloader unlock ever achieved?
Does Permanent unlock mean permanent? Or is it something you can lose with a firmware update, factory reset, or user modification?
How does the device unlock? Is it unlocked by hardware like a knox trip? Is it from the carrier? Could it ever be re-locked?
Basically I bought my S6 from T-Mobile with the full intention of cancelling the service once I fully payed it off. $860 later, I made my final payment a week ago. I put in an ATT sim card, tried unlocking, nothing happened. Put my T-mo sim back in, did unlocking just to try it again, and it says my device is permanently unlocked.
I just want to know how permanent is permanent, and is it safe to cancel my service with T-Mo, and could the phone ever be re-locked by means of factory reset or by any change in the software?
Also my T-mo account balance is -$60, I don't fully know what that means, but it appears that they owe me $60. If I cancel, is a negative amount refunded?
It's supposed to be permanent. But T-Mo's custom device unlock is bugged. I permanently unlocked mine a few days ago and switched back to AT&T. Last night I started getting an invalid sim inserted message with my AT&T sim in it! So much for permanent unlock!!!
All I could think of doing to make sure it's permanent this time around is to Odin back to the stock MetroPCS rom so I could use their radio and unlock it the old fashioned way. Works fine with AT&T now. I just have to stick with the MetroPCS radio, or it will become locked again!

I've been away from android for a short time and now back on T-Mobile S6. I bought it outright from T-Mobile and haven't even had it three days yet but service is terrible. Is there a guide for exactly how to use the PCS firmware and then get root and twrp? How and where did you get the unlock code also? You said I need to stay on PCS? What if I flashed a T-Mobile custom rom off xda development site? Thanks, I'm just a little rusty and don't want to mess up my new phone. LOL.

There is a guide somewhere. I read it a couple of weeks back, so I knew what to do to Odin flash the Metro rom and use the regular sim unlock method. You can flash any compatible rom with your device. You just can't flash the T-Mobile radio, or you'll loose the SIM Unlock! The radio firmware is never part of a custom rom, so no need to worry there.
I bought the unlock code from androidsimunlock.com and told them it was a MetroPCS Galaxy S6. Worked perfectly.
Thanks. I'll do some more searching.
So the unlock is in software only?
So I bought the phone just now. Paid quite a lot because they don't exist in my country , but I've wanted it since it got out, and it's in like brand new condition so ehhh, why not I said..
Just checked and phone is on Marshmallow 24.81.5quark_verzion.verzion.enUS
Tried Kingroot and sunshine to at least achieve temproot , they both failed.
What are my options right now here?
Thanks!
No unlock options right now if you are on stock 6.0.1 with a locked bootloader.

Thanks for reply! I guess I'll just live with it. Iphone in motorola's body lol. But for discussions sake, any way to downgrade? I know flashing bootloader triggers the "fuse" but I was succesfull with some weird bootloader downgrades in the past wtih 201M (Japanese softbank version of Razr M) and IS12M (JP KDDI version of Droid Razr).
Only problem is, this phone is way to expensive for me to experiment..

Hmmmm... then you were very lucky because gospel around here is you can never downgrade the Motorola bootloader. If you could downgrade bootloader, then everyone would go back to version where Sunshine worked! First Sunshine worked on Lollipop SU4TL-44 (November 2015), then everyone who procrastinated rushed to take SU4TL-49 (May 2016), hoping it was Marshmallow. Nope, it was just a Verizon "security" update to stop Sunshine from working. They had SIX MONTHS to unlock their bootloader and they didn't do it! Then everyone complained and said if only Sunshine worked on "49", they wouldn't procrastinate anymore. BOOM. A few months later (july 2016) Sunshine found another exploit and it works also on Lollipop "49".
But we are STILL seeing people now taking the Marshmallow OTA (November 2016) without unlocking bootloader first. Not you, you said you bought it with it already installed...
One of the Sunshine team members said he briefly glanced at the 6.0.1 OTA and it might not be impossible to unlock the bootloader. But no promises and no ETA. I don't think this phone is a high priority anymore. This is now a 2-year old phone. Still GREAT, but other newer phones get attention. There's been Sunshine for it since November 2015 and most everyone who wants it has had a chance to get it.

Yeah I read whole how to unlock bootloader thread, from 1st to last page but havent' seen anything marshmallow specific so I opened this topic..
Yeah , I was also surprised, but I spent around 1 month working on it , and it was only working with specific firmwares (fastboot files).
Yeah I wish I checked little more about that issue , I would check phones OS and probably not buy when I see it's MM.. Oh well, no going back now.. Thought that verzion's control freak behavior stopped by the time of droid turbo( used some verzion motorola phones in the past) especially when google bought motorola.
I hope people don't see this phone as outdated, because there is no way it can be called that. Many people including myself figured it like a replacement for nexus , and I think it deserves at least root exploit..
Also asked in Sunshines thread about support for marshmallow , got rather unclear response:
Me:Will there be support for droid turbo on marshmallow? Just purchased the phone, didn't know unlocking bl was possible only on lolli... Thanks
jcase: Known at this point,
EDIT: damn I write yeah a lot lol. P.s if mods want to delete topic because it's useless, feel free. Thanks!
EDIT 2: By checking system updates looks like phone was updates 3 days ago so 1 day before I bought it .. Arrrghhhh!!!
BTW I just remembered, "old" Droid 's ( xt910 ,xt912 etc) bootloader was never ever unlocked , but there was a way around it. Safestrap recovery by Hashcode , which I'm sure you all know about. The project is scraped because dev is busy , but I really wonder if anything like that is possible on droid turbo. I also wonder how does it work exactly and what gets bypassed.
From users standpoint: you installed apk which then installed recovery that "bypassed" locked bootloader and allowed you to install /load custom roms, kernels , radios , root etc.. You could even install more OS's at same time like on another "partitions".
hm...

sorry for keeping this post alive, but i really really miss Safestrap when i had the Moto Droid Razr, you could have up to 4 different ROMs installed and it took minutes to swap between them. Man those were the good ole days haha
Edit: added word droid

I remember being frustrated about never-unlockable bootloader while using safestrap at same tame and then realised, hey wait! What do I need unlocked bootloader anyway , everything works perfect and functionality is even better than on most modded phones (at the time).
Having something like this on droid turbo would make it a perfect phone in my opinion, and for years to come.. Wonder whats the dev's view on droid turbo on that..
Anyway I was playing a little, all within "safe zones" regarding the downgrading . With litlle modding I could flash bootloader.img from QUARK_VERIZON_5.1_SU4TL-49_cid2_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip and most of partitions related to bootloader I collected from various locations, all from SU4TL but it's obviously not important..
So basically what I can't flash to downgrade is :
gpt.bin
boot.img
system files (system,img_sparsechunk.0 , 1 , 2 etc).. I will investigate more.
Started finally actually using phone , all bloatware can be disabled, so it's actually pretty ok for now. Phone feels awesome ..
Mods , please delete this topic in purpose of cleaning, I'm gonna open 2 topics regarding downgrading experiment and making SBF of new Marshmallow OTA
I picked up a Note 8 thats still locked on At&t and Im planing to flash it over to Verizon for use on their network. The guy that sold it to me said he was working on getting it unlocked and im prayinh he comes through. If I understand what Ive read so far I should be able to flash it over to Verizon while its locked, just that it will still be locked afterwards which is fine. Is that true? Will I encounter any issues or would I be better off waiting until its unlocked first?
And if anyone knows an easy way to unlock it im all ears. Thanks a bunch.

As long as it's carrier locked to AT&T there's nothing you can do.
While you can flash the VZW ROM, your device will still be locked to AT&T. Have to wait for them to unlock it.

I understand that, but I was wanting to play and get a jump on the game, if I flash it to VZW will I have any issues unlocking it with ATT after the fact? I'm just wanting to get the VZW firmware loaded and the phone setup so once it's carrier unlocked I'll be ready to go with Verizon.

I don't know. While it isn't applicable to our device, I do know that if one is running a custom ROM, often the SIM unlock code won't work.
Just in case anyone else has the same question, sense I'm sitting on a samsung locked Note Edge that was legitimently mine I decided to play it safe and wait it out. Original owner got it unlocked for me today so now it's time I can play.
