[Q] Rotate Active Display? - Moto X Q&A

Pardon the thread if someone's already answered this, but is there a hack anywhere to allow you to rotate the active display feature? I love to enable 180 degree rotation for times when I want the charger to be on top, but the only drawback is Active Notifications still display at the normal orientation.
Can it be done?

You could try App Settings. It's an Xposed module.

Thanks, I hadn't heard of that module before. I gave it a try and forced the app orientation to auto-rotate and saw no difference. It actually stopped displaying notification info so I had to uninstall App Settings.
I almost wonder if Active Display is hardcoded to display notifications from the standard orientation.
Oh well, thanks anyways!

[Q] How to disable "Force Auto rotation" when using offical charging dock

The reason for disabling "Force Auto" rotation seems not important to discuss in this topic.
Well, before post this thread, I have been try to use any "rotation lock apps" for this purpose, but there is a lot of side effect when using apps with own rotation control.
Then I just wonder whether I have to edit framework-res.apk or any things else to disabling "Force Auto rotation" not just HOME screen to make the behavior as the system default?
Just disable the auto rotate dude

Well, do you use DK26 dock?
Even I disable the auto rotate, when I plug it into the charging dock, the system could "force auto rotation" except for the apps had own orientation control...
I have googled a lot, it seems that it related to the setting config_deskDockEnablesAccelerometer in framework-res.apk, but I was fail to replaced framework-res.apk, even I replaced it using recovery, it still causes bootloops.

Rotate Upside down - Root

Hi,
Can anyone help me enable Upside down rotation on a rooted Note 8?
In the wireless charging doc i need to put it upside down because of a ring on the back, and it would be great if the lock-screen and everything could rotate accordingly.

Use a "rotation" app from playstore to get 180 rotation...

You should be able to rotate the Note 8 upside down and it should rotate that way.

I tried 2 "rotation control" apps, Android P rotation, Rotation orientation manager. Only the last one allows upside down orientation, and it does not work for the lockscreen, which is what i was looking for.

Is wish it were that easy. They stopped allowing upside down rotation for phones about the same time they got rid of buttons, i guess to not confuse the user, but i would still want to have that choice.
Have you tried Ultimate Rotation Control

Thanks, it works for the lock-screen but it has some weird interactions. The lock-screen closes in less than 3 seconds, and when you reopen it, it's upside down . It does not work for the AOD.
Do you know of a way to keep the lockscreen on for more time? I have the lock set to 1 minute, but the screen turns from lockscreen to AOD in less than 5 seconds.

Yeah, sorry i haven't used that app for a few years, stopped using it when it wouldn't scale landscape home screen correctly.
You could try using the s9 "launcher" maybe it will interact better with the rotation app..... but be aware in my experience message/email etc badges don't show at all (on icons), so definitely not a great solution....but that launcher does have built in rotation.....just not 180 i believe. Also if i remember right the setting in tw settings also enables lock screen rotation...again not 180 but might cooperate better with app.

Only other thing i can think of would be a Smali edit to the stock launcher to allow for 180....you might find something in the TW Mods thread..

Always On Display Question

Hi. Been playing about with phone and seen that there is orientation option under the AOD settings. Choose Landscape or Portrait. But it doesnt seem to do anything, unless im being a dumbass. Does anyone have any idea?
Yes, it does what it says....clock in portrait or landscape. If you double tap the clock, it gives the rotation option and AOD brightness (if you have auto turned off )

I double tap the clock and it gives me the brightness and can scroll music, weather etc but no rotation. Confused.
interesting. I'm on Verizon and the latest update as of the 8th. Can't screenshot it from the lock screen I don't think, but I'll try and grab a pic that it's real.

Kill the Always On Display

How can I toggle the AOD to be completely off? This is driving me nuts. I'm aware of the settings within the Motion Sense area of settings. The "show when nearby" seems to take, however no matter what I do the clock still appears no matter what as an AOD. I've tried disabling the following in different combinations to no avail:
Motion Sense
com.google.oslo
Pixel Ambient Services
com.google.intelligence.sense
Motion Sense Bridge
com.google.android.apps.motionsense.bridge
Even tried the clock app itself
com.google.android.deskclock
Whenever these are initially disabled it seems to work for a minute or so but then the clock pops back up on the AOD. I just want the toggles to work! This is for when I'm driving and my my phone is mounted where it faces me. I already have 2 clocks in my car and don't need a third it's more of an annoyance than anything else.
Do you have Always On disabled in the Lock Screen settings?

Search for "always on" in settings and turn it off
display / lockscreen / always on - does not exist
Searching for "always on" yields no results.
I don't have a lock screen set as I don't need it, though I did try setting one temporarily to see if the option showed up, but nothing. That's how I used to do it on my note but they moved everything around on 10.

You really don't have always on under..settings/display/advanced/lock screen display....then scroll to the bottom??
Display, scroll all the way to the bottom, select lock screen display, bottom third of the screen you'll see Always on, toggle it off. You can still have it light up by tapping, lifting, or triggered by soli, in any combination if you wish.
edit.. Ninja'ed me Badge, it's there, he just missed it.

It's probably because you went around disabling apps. Enable the Pixel ambient Services.

With everything re-enabled and a hard reboot, I set a screen lock. Then went back to display and the "lockscreen" option was now available. I turned off AOD and then disabled the screen lock and it took. No more clock.
It seems as though the AOD toggle being buried in the lock screen options, which is only available when one is on will take no matter of a lock screen is set. So every time I want to change this I have to go through this process. I wish there was a Quick Settings shortcut for this.

Well it's not exactly meant to be toggled on and off often like the ones in the Quick Settings pulldown menu. The easiest and quickest way is just searching "Always on" in settings and you can actually toggle it right there as seen in the screenshot.

Also if you are not using the active edge for anything critical you might try button mapper by flar2 and see if one of the options can be set to it. Or maybe even on of the other options in his app will apply it.

I don't now and have never had a lock screen enabled on my phone and can and have always been able to enable or disable always on display. Unless you disabled some app affecting this as mentioned above it should be there for you too just as it is for the rest of us. You may want to look into that and see what's hanging you up.

I haven't been able to do it since it was virgin out of the box, the option just isn't there. Doing it on my old Note 8 was super easy it was right where it was supposed to be. Although I have found a workaround for anyone on the off chance I'm not the only one experiencing this.
Being rooted, I downloaded ShortcutMaster and used the app explorer and poked around until I found;
[Setup Wizard]
com.google.android.pixel.setupwizard
tap and scroll down to;
com.google.android.pixel.setupwizard.alwaysondisplay.AlwaysOnDisplayOptInActivity
Choosing [launch] triggers the screen from inital setup to toggle the AOD.
Set it as favorite, or Homescreen (on the paid version)
Launch Shortcut master each time to change it or use the homescreen icon shortcut.
The setting seems to take each time I've done it so far.

Lockscreen customize
Since we're on the lockscreen topic, is there a way to add the camera icon back on the lock screen?
