I have been noticing a weird thing with my Droid 3. I love the phone. I haven't had any issues. I do get this annoying green screen effect during transitions. It only seems to happen if I have Netflix or Youtube running in the background. I can fix the problem by going into my settings and turning off my screen animations. I am in the process of getting it exchanged. I will let you know if it is just a fluke or maybe a possible issue with the phone software.
Is this happening to anyone out there with a Droid 3?
video coming soon. Still uploading
I have the same problem between screen changes

My wifes did that too, but she was using just texts. I turned off animations and to save battery, and noticed it hadn't come back yet. Thought maybe I was only one
Edit: she says it still does it...hmmm dunno...hope it gets fixed in next update

tried to replicate the problem on mine, but didn't have any issues. Hmm.
Green is usually an overlay color when drawing from a framebuffer. This just means something is forcing screen output before the frame is fully drawn. It's an out-of-sync drawing issue somewhere in the software or driver and isn't a hardware problem. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it happens so often that it annoys you. It's not hurting anything.
I've seen this as well with youtube...I've also seen it show a partial view of my homescreen while transitioning between menus....not a big deal, but hopefully it'll get fixed soon

Happened to my wifes and my phone today. Kept going to green screen when trying to open the camara app. Had to reboot to make it go away. Im also on my third droid 3 phone. First one scratched the paint finish next to the keyboard when sliding open. The second droid 3 the speaker sounded like it was shorting out when calling or talking to someone.

I had this problem, it went away after a reboot. Haven't seen it since.

Have you tried rebooting the phone, instead of getting it replaced? A reboot can work wonders.

wife's phone did this while in camera mode. looked lik she was peering into the matrix. rebuffer or not, it's an obvious software glitch. i factory reset her phone so that vzw would log the activation.

Yeah, a stuck app that is unable to redraw will do the same thing but instead of a flash it's a permanent green-screen until the app is force closed or the phone is rebooted. I've had the camera do this to me a few times and Motorola has already come forward saying the camera app has problems, including this one, that they're working on.
i could live with an occasional software glitch if everythign wasn't so dammed slow. i've yet to see this phone actually perform a function faster than my D2. the software overhead is unbelievable.

Well we could be in luck, it looks like root on the D3 could very likely happen sometime this week. 2.3.4 has been successfully rooted with the phone already on 2.3.4 and the bootloader still locked. We have P3 all over it now, too.

LOL! I just saw that myself. Cheers!
Ha!
@pplude that made my day.
I have the same problem, i get the screen flicker going between handecent and my homescreen running prolauncher. i've had my droid 3 for a couple weeks and after rooting and freezing all that junk, I'm quite happy with the phone. other than this weird green pixel matrix screen... thing..
Not a huge issue, just a lil annoying.
TopHat
I had the green screen issue. I uninstalled youtube updates and haven't seen it since, same thing on my girls d3 hope it helps
So I've had my Moto X for about a week now, and I just rooted with JCase's new RockMyMoto. Then I used MotoXposed to hide the ATT label and fix the wifi gap, but suddenly I realized the close all button doesnt appear when I open my recents menu. I honestly don't know if I just never noticed till now, or if I broke something.
Wait... Is that a custom ROM feature? Where the recent apps button becomes three horizontal lines like the clear all in the notification drawer? I've been on PA since I bought my GNex so I don't remember. The Moto X is so smooth I've never tried till now.

i was surprised when i noticed that button wasnt on the moto x; i could have sworn that was a default android feature. i got it back on my phone using the gravity box module on the xposed framework (its under "miscellaneous tweaks")
Does gravitybox work with MotoXposed? I only rooted to get rid of the ATT label and the WiFi gap an couldn't think of anything else I wanted to do. That's how slick this phone is! I'll live without it cause they extra RAM and horsepower don't make it necessary like my GNex and Kitkat has improved memory management when we get our "very soon" update

there are a few "issues" that have come up but they may not necessarily be major (depends on the user). i've noticed conflicts in settings that are in both modules, and since i didn't know which is prioritized over the other i probably spent more time than i should have tinkering/experimenting with both to see their cause and effects. with that said, i did manage to get both working together with everything done to my likings..
but like you said, this is the first android phone where i didnt want/need to do too many changes and im *extremely* happy i dont have to go the custom rom route as with all my previous phones
anyone else having problems when you're in the google now app and try using the hot word?
When I had jellybean I use to be able to go into the google now app and say "okay google" and it would pull up the voice search. Since I updated to kitkat it doesnt seem to be working. I can say "okay google now" and it pulls up touchless control and on a rare occasion i can say "okay google" but it still pulls up touchless control.
I was thinking maybe because the moto x is the only phone that has KITKAT without the GEL and maybe thats the problem? because every other offical KITKAT device has GEL and that hot word is built into the launcher. So maybe google has to push through an update for the moto x to fix this problem.
any opinions??
There is already a thread on this.
Hot word detection isn't a GEL feature, it's a 4.4 and google search feature.
Collective thought it that motorola disabled this feature as to not interfere with similar "ok google now" hot word with touch-less control. No official word though, so that's speculation.

No other Kitkat phone has GEL. Only the Nexus 5. You have to manually enable it with a seperate APK.
Source: Have Nexus 10 and Nexus 4, neither have GEL on 4.4.

But the hot word within google now still works on the nexus 7, 10, and 4. So it must be a moto x problem. unless if they did it on purpose.

Hot word on the homescreen is a GEL feature. Thats what I meant. You cant say "okay google" on a homescreen without GEL and have it work.
and if thats what moto did, then thats really dumb because on jellybean the hot word within google now app worked. its the same thing.
Does anyone know of a fix or app that will disable vibration (and haptic feedback universally across the phone) when unlocking through active notifications?
I love the moto x, but the way it vibrates all the time really annoys me. Friggin hate how OEMs force that into the ROMs. Thanks for any help. You all rule.
2d
Anyone have an idea?
2d
There is no way to remove the vibration from active notification
Sent from my XT1058 using xda app-developers app
I had the phone when it first came out and the vibration used to drive me crazy. I will say I picked it up the other day and with the KITKAT update the vibration is now barely noticeable.
It really drives me nuts too. I loathe haptic response. It just makes a slick phone feel stupid.
I'm thinking there has to be some kind of app that will override system wide haptic control. I just am unaware of it. Does anyone know of an app like that? I am rooted.

I'm thinking more like modifying the apk to disable this. Haven't looked at it yet.

The problem for me is that it's a Republic Wireless Moto X and I don't believe the build for it has been released or is even in the wild. If it was, getting an altered version would be my top priority.
Coming from a rooted, unlocked, CM 10.2 running LG Optimus G, having something that can't be disabled is REALLY annoying.
Thanks for the comments. If anyone knows of an app or anything else related to this, I'd be super appreciative.

Root exist. JCase's works just fine, and exactly as described. While I haven't checked I'm pretty sure the same reverse unroot process works on it as well. Haven't checked though.
Hopefully Motorola fixes it themselves, but a nice custom stock rom would be really nice as well. Just needs to be RW specific as they have their wifi portion hard written into the system.

I've only had the phone for 2 days, and I'm not quite brave enough to try it yet! I will eventually, once I read that more people have done it, I guess.
So do you guys think it's worth switching over to ART now that it's an official thing in L release and the future of android for sure? I had researched this months ago but at the time many apps didn't work with it. Is it something worth giving a shot now? I actually saw an article posted from CNET mentioning about doing this even if you don't have the official release as it helps boost performance. Any risks from switching or is it just maybe some apps don't work and that's the worst that happens?
For me the pros of art outweighed the cons since day 1
The version of ART in kitkat isn't the same as the one in L. The one in kitkat was a developer preview so devs could get their apps working in it for the eventual full release. Currently it offers little to no bonuses, and at this point very few apps don't work with it.

How is it not the same? It's the way the system is using cache right? So it's either using dalvik or ART. It can be like half one, and half the other. So I don't think you're right about that. However, as you say I guess it still stands that many apps don't work with it yet. This being the reason I never switched. But I was thinking now that it's official, app makers will switch.
Anyone know of a list or anything that states apps that don't work with it?

ART, as far as I know, hasn't been updated since the kitkat release, and what we got was a sort of beta release. The basis of it is different from dalvik, yes, but the things that actually provide the bonuses are different in L. Sites ran tests when it came out and found minimal to no differences from dalvik. Plus, it's only been available on Qualcomm chips, which includes the Moto X, and Moto decided not to hide it. Outside of that and Nexus devices, im not sure what devices have it right now. My Nexus 10 can't choose ART (on stock ROM) because it runs on an Exynos chip. L will contain all the updates Google has been working on since the kitkat release and thats when you'll see a difference from dalvik. I've been on ART on my Moto X and N7 since then and cant notice a difference. And most apps work on it now. The ones that are more likely to not work are games.

Oh good info. I know its available on the Nexus 7, 2013 as well. So you do use ART on your devices despite believing it doesn't make any difference? Care to explain. Wondering if its at least worth a shot you know. I'm not rooted so it'd be something to tinker with lol

I just have a habit of wanting to have "the latest and greatest," and since it didn't really break anything i decided "why not?" I'll probably end up flashing the preview build of L onto my N7 for that same reason, but i'm gonna give that a day or two to hear how much stuff is busted to see if it's worth it.
I haven't tried any games, but I agree to not seeing a difference.
The moto x runs much better than other devices I'm used to, so it's difficult for me to pinpoint any changes it made as opposed to using dalvik
I have noticed a massive difference on art
Ive noticed an improvement as well. Only downside is no xposed
Is the worst that can happen as a result of switching just app incompatibility?

Pretty much. Then just switch back.
Oh, and there is the longer boot the first time after switching from one to the other.
ART is really nice on the Moto X, but my complaint is the same as most folks when I use it - no Xposed compatibility. However, judging from the I/O keynote Wednesday, I don't think the dev has to do anything to make it work - Google is doing that for us on the backend when L releases in the fall. They made it clear that they're trying to make Android more developer-friendly, as indicated by the Android L preview released yesterday. There's lots of neat stuff coming, and we all get to be part of it. :good:
Just try it and see what you think. Don't like it, switch back. Asking people isn't helpful....some like it, some hate it....and some have no opinion.
But, personally.....an X without Gravity box wouldn't appeal to me.
---------- Post added at 12:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:51 PM ----------
And for me....Xposed will be a necessity on L...when its official, cause I think its butt ugly. Lol
Well I'm not rooted/unlocked so gravity box isn't an option for me regardless unfortunately. I think I'll give it a shot.

Well the developer of xposed says it doesn't work ( http://www.androidauthority.com/android-art-switch-xposed-395098/) and in the xposed FAQ one if the questions is "why does my phone switch to dalvik when I enable xposed".
So I guess all I can say is congrats? I haven't personally tried to force the two together.

Yes, ART uses more space on the device.
