Fixing video streaming - HTC Desire C

Alright. So I'm sure that at least some of you people out there can't watch Netflix twitch.tv etc. And what makes me unsure is that there hasn't been a thread on this so here we go.
I've been trying to fix video streaming on cm10, miui, aokp etc. But i haven't found anything that works as of yet. In hoping that someone here knows how to fix this or can collaborate with me in finding a way to fix this!
Thanks for reading, and any help would be greatly appreciated

It could be down to something like gralloc? That's what renders onscreen, isn't the Desire C source code hacked to make this even remotely work? Have you looked at a logcat when it tries to play bro?
if you can attach one to your next post, so I can take a look, as I'm away from my Desire C as of now.

Yah, I'll give logcat soon, you will have to figure it out though as I don't really know what to look for in a logcat...

Was a fix found for video streaming?

It needs to be fixed. Streams not watchable on our phones.
It will be great if you guys fix the bug.

I know this is older but I'd also like to see it fixed. It seems the decoder is incompatible.
Code:
I/ESQueue ( 119): found AAC codec config (48000 Hz, 2 channels)
I/avc_utils( 119): found AVC codec config (1280 x 720, Baseline-profile level 3.1)
E/OMXNodeInstance( 119): OMX_GetExtensionIndex failed
E/ACodec ( 119): [OMX.qcom.video.decoder.avc] configureCodec returning error -1010
E/NuPlayer( 119): Received error from video decoder, aborting playback.
E/NuPlayer( 119): video track encountered an error (-2147483648)
E/MediaPlayer(22126): error (1, -2147483648)
E/MediaPlayer(22126): Error (1,-2147483648)
D/Twitch (22126): Error during playback: 1, -2147483648
I believe that's an issue with the twitch app.
Edit: Another logcat error which seems related:
Code:
W/WVMExtractor( 119): Failed to open libwvm.so

[Q] mp4 movies help?

Hey all need some help here got some mp4 movies that play till 1:11:35 then the video stops but the audio keeps playing. Btw I'm running cm6 black mod stable. Any suggestions?
There's alot of info missing in your post, such as the player you're using and how did you encode your movies. This makes it hard to find a solution to your problem.
I think I had the same issue for a period, but switching players helped. Though I don't recollect exactly. Here's a quick tutorial I put together awhile ago: http://digitaldeverell.com/?page_id=130
Maybe that could help???
Not sure of the encoding, I downloaded the videos they all play no matter what player I use but they all stop at 1 hr 11 min and 35 seconds up until then everything perfect. Could there be any kind of cap or time or MB restrictions? I work midnights with nothing really to do and would really like to watch some movies... thanks...
Oh, btw the video stops at 1:11:35 and the audio continues but when it stops the seek bar returns to the beginning of the movie. The rest of the video is there but it wont play past that time.
Are you trying to 'stream' the video? Try act1 video player ...
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
ive tried act 1, and several others cant remember all of them (deleted) but im not streaming them they were downloaded and work fing on my pc. Tranfered them to my sd card and played them, they all work fine... perfect audio/video until 1:11:35 and then the seek bar goes to the begining of the movie and the audio continues to play as if nothing happened. if i drag the seek bar past 1:11:35 the video is there but it plays audio from the begining of the movie...??? idk im like wtf. i thought about cutting the movies in half sumhow but dont really know how to do it. thoughts?
Well there's only so much cache room allowed, for most apps/ functions.
Is your phone rooted, and what ROM?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Yes, rooted running cm6 blackmod stable.
1:11:35
I am having the same problem here as well. I just went on a flight and encoded five different movies. One was encoded with AnyDVDconverter, the other three were done with Handbrake. The movies converted with both programs worked until 1:11:35.
I have tried a lot of different settings within each program every time with the same results, audio continues and the video pauses. If I seek past 1:11:35 the video will play, but the audio begins to play from the beginning with the slider bar returning to the start as well.
See how this appears to be an issue with the phone and not Handbrake, I wiped and flashed CM6.1 with the same results.
Any thoughts on what else could be done to have proper video playback.
Also, I have tried the Gallery, mVideoPlayer, and DoubleTwist with same results as well.
Thank You for any suggestions.
Solved:
found this solution in the CyanogenMod google code website, sorry I can not post the link
I solved the problem by executing the steps below:
1) adb pull /system/build.prop build.prop
2) open the retrieved build.prop file in your favourite text editor and change
media.stagefright.enable-player=true
into
media.stagefright.enable-player=false
3) adb remount
4) adb push build.prop /system/build.prop
5) adb shell reboot
After applying this fix, I have not noticed any problems with youtube playback.

Hope this helps someone else out too.
That didn't fix it... From what I've found the files have to be less than 2mb due to SD card fat32 partitions limits. Irk.
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA using XDA App
I had the same problem but couldn't find any solution on the net anywhere. There IS a simple, yet unelegant solution though:
Split the movie into 2 (or 3 if it's a very long movie) files.
In Handbrake, look at the total number of chapters. Do one pass for the first half, then another for the second half (ex, 24 chapter total, then do one file with chapters 1-12 and a second file with 13-24). Just name the movies "Title 1" and "Title 2".
Voila. Problem solved.

Degraded Video Playback After 1.2 Update

The developer of DVD Catalyst 4 is reporting a serious degradation in video playback with the 1.2 update. Anyone else experience this?
http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com...-2-FAIL/m-p/981754/message-uid/981754#U981754
If this is the case, and the methods discussed for blocking OTA don't work, looks like I'll be joining the legions of CM7 users. Video playback on the NC is a huge draw for me.
Unfortunately looks like I'll need a crash course. Doing some cross country traveling on May 7 and want to have a fully functional, video playback capable NC on that date.

Its not really a quality issue, the smoothness of the video playback is affected.
After updating, the videos I already had on my NOOKcolor just looked like frames were being skipped or doubled. Its hard to describe, but they just look "off"
I tried a bunch of different conversion tools and a collection of different settings, and all resulted in similar playback issues, which basically points to an issue with the update rather than the conversion tool used.
I managed to play 3000Kbps h264 video on the NOOKcolor before the update, but now 800Kbps files have playback issues.
Testing youtube produces similar results. While I only played a few trailers from youtube, it appears quality is locked to 360, and even then I get audio sync issues.
I haven't tried the 1.2 update but I did integrate the hardware codecs from 1.2 into to CM7 and saw the same thing. For now I'm sticking with our existing codecs as they perform better.

The developer of DVD Catalyst 4 conversion software has posted sample video files that demonstrate the degraded video quality. So I don't think a simple reboot will fix things. If it were that simple, I think he'd have figured it out, since his paychek in part depends upon the Nook Color being a decent platform for watching movies.
Sorry : Wrong Thread.
Mine worked but the selection method is key
My MP4's worked flawlessly with the new update - I ripped them from my own DVD's using DVD Catalyst 4.0 and the setting for Nook Color. BUT, they didn't work using the gallery - I had to select them using the My Files folder in the library app (I have two full length videos on emmc and two on my 8 Gb SD Card (a Transcend Class 6) - either choice worked.
I was looking at the new build.prop just now, and it's specifying a heapsize of 64M.
That seems to be very high to me. If someone's got a rooted 1.2, it might be interesting to see what manipulating the heap does for video playback. I'm still holding off on updating mine.

[BUG] Some external videos cause complete Video Play subsystem failure until reboot!

I have just opened a bug for Android about video play subsystem failure on Nexus 4! None of my previous Android devices had this problem and this is really bothering me! Anybody else having the same problem?
Android Bug report Link (Please star this if you want it fixed):
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=50814&thanks=50814&ts=1361480369
Problem Description:
I have downloaded a video file to my Nexus 4, opened it in stock Gallery application tried to play it with stock video player and the Gallery Application hanged and crashed! After that, you can't play any video files with the device, not even video files recorded with the device camera. The problem persists until the device is rebooted.
Sometimes, when I open an application that fetches thumbnails of videos (like VidTrim), then without even trying to play the unsupported video file the video play capabilities of the device are completely gone!
You can download a video file that causes this problem from here:

Yes, that is why I'm asking if it's just MKV files.

I don't know if happens only for MKV files. I have other MKV files that does not cause this problem. But this specific file causes the problem %100 on my stock 4.2.2 device.
Can some people with Stock Android 4.2.2 and Nexus 4, try to play the file that I shared and see if the problem occurs?
If the problem occurs, after playing that file, you shouldn't be able to even play videos recorded with your Nexus 4.
Please use the stock video player only for testing.
Wow. Finally! I've got the same problem. Maybe because N4 has minimum codec? I wish 4.3 can solved this.
Edit: In my case, even I can't play YouTube when it happened.

Good to see other people having the issue. It's very annoying.
Can you please "star" the issue so that Google gets notified and fixes it. You can also write a comment under the issue:

By the way, YouTube does not work for me too after trying to play that video file.
Yep, i've noticed it in the last month or so, some of the transcoded movies off my plex server cause it and the phone then requires a reboot before it will play anything at all, good to see it hasn't gone unnoticed by others.

Considering "MKV" is really just a container for other codecs, have you tried seeing what the video and audio are encoded in for this file as well as a file you are not having issues with?

Well, I don't know what that will be helpful for? I'm not the one to fix this problem. Google engineers should do that.
Regardless of the video format and codecs, if the format is not supported then it should not cause all the videos subsystem to break down. It should just say its not supported.
By the way, Android 4.3 improved a little bit. Now the problem is not so easily reproducible like in 4.2.2.

[ROM] aosp-4.2.2-thor-0 (Kindle fire hdx 7")

Yup ! Full aosp 4.2.2 port for the thor based on nexus 7 2012 image (kindle fire hdx 7") is coming very, very soon !
I just booted a few minutes ago (after a lot of work) ! Rendering is working/fixed, touchscreen is working/fixed, sound working/fixed, wifi working/fixed. After registration (which worked) i tested playstore, gmail and some settings menu which are all working.
It's a good news for me, and i guess for you too. The rom should be ready for tomorow i guess/hope (even if there's still some bugs, which will be the case) is ready for download.
Installation :
Install safestrap
Create rom slot
Go to recovery
Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache
Flash aosp-4.2.2-thor-*.zip
Download :
aosp-4.2.2-thor-0.zip
aosp-4.2.2-thor-1.zip -> almost unusable
Not working yet :
MediaPlayer (youtube, musics, games)
Crash on screen wake up (ui restart)
Headphones out not working
Note :
Help to fix mediaplayer and other bugs is welcome as time is missing
Rom used for the port : Grouper-JDQ39_4.2.2-Deodex_Rooted-02-14-13-teshxx
Playing with /system/lib and /system/bin between stock and grouper rom should be enough
No need to ask permission to use/repack do anything with the rom just go for it

Hi ! Good news, ROM is packed ! I upload it asap ( should take a few hours). No changes since yesterday, all seems working except something with media player I think which prevent music's, hardware video player, and most games to work (hashcode and other help of course more than welcome as I may not have a lot of free time until next week end).
The main directions was : edit stock system/etc/rootfs/init.rc for grouper frameworks and remove calls to main2 services (amazon), replace app, fonts, framework and media stock system folders by grouper ones, replace a few stock system/bin/* and system/lib by grouper ones (more details soon).
Also note that data partition can (and must) be wiped so more room on nand !
Uploaded !
Uploaded a fix for boot anim to work
thanks !!
Rom boot has failed to follow the instructions but still failed, Error youtube movies have not considered how to fix it?? remaining works well!!v
I already knew it was wishful thinking at this early state of the rom dev but Amazon stuff such as kindle and mp3 player doesn't work, at least not in mine. Amazon Mobile for Tablet does work though. I am really glad I don't have to deal w/ the auto hiding home and back buttons now from the stock fireOS, that was really annoying. Thanks Cpasjuste for putting this together!

No it's there. The problem is probably due to the mixed surfaceflinger and/or audio binaries/libraries, which may be very difficult to fix :x
It would probably better to work from aosp sources instead to debug around but this would require a huge amount of time which i don't have !
