HTC custom rom custom updates OTA - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

guys i want to know which custom rom on here have custom ota updates? so that i not need to download whole new version of custom rom again and flash it...
thank you

Each rom that has OTA's built into the rom will tell you in the thread. Best thing to do is to go through the different threads and find them.

The reason most dont have OTA is that they are not reliable. And even then you still download a whole rom and flash it.

thanks mate

Sense based ROMs are huge 1GBish. If you look at Paranoid Android, Cyanogen etc, they're ~160MB + GApps (200ish? for the full package). They have "OTAs" in the sense that they notify you when an update is available and streamline the download and flash process. But flashing a full ROM is still smaller than most of the official Sense OTAs

[Q] rooting note for the first time.

Hey guys!!
I am thinking about rooting my note ....I am bit worried. I have LB2 right now and I am going to downgrade to KL3. Will it affect performance of my note in any way. I have heard that on previous versions of firmwares game performance was not so good. I have latest version so gaming is just amazing. Will it be affected after rooting to lower version? Please note that I am not going to use custom roms. I just need rooted phone. Furthermore, if OTA update is available can I update it over the air even if I am rooted?
Regards,
Abhi.

Yeah there will be some performance issue in the earlier versions hence the newer version of stock roms have been out by samsung. The best you can do is root and then use Mobile Odin Pro and flash the newer stock rom by selecting the option of ever root so that the newer stock rom you are flashing gets rooted in the process of flashing through mobile odin pro!
Cheers!
Hit thanks if it helped!
Thanks.
Got perfect answer. What about OTA udpates? Furthermore, will I face issues with Video camera and other functions on custom roms?

You might be able to get them. But the best bet will be to take the roms from here on xda as you will get to know whether the new one can be rooted or not. So you can then choose to update if you want root and the new rom cant be rootable so you can wait for the root to come and then flash it.
I am currently on custom rom rocket v 23 as seen in my signature. And i haven't faced any of such issues !
I will advise you to go custom as you get to have many options and features. Rest depends on you
Thx buddy. Will do rooting thingy tomorrow and let you know the results.

if u liek stcok rom, upgrade to teh latest, then falsh a custom kernel (I prefer teh speedmod kernel [2.8]) its a rooted kernel tehn install super suer from paly store and done

Thanks Abhi. @mR.fR34ky : I am thinking about doing the same thing. Using stock rom kernel which is already rooted. I don't want to hurt my note by using custom rom. I was reading custom rom thread and ppl are facing lots of problems with that. You have to use patches to fix that. I don't want to go through all this trouble.
Can you please provide me step by step information to root only stock kernel? Will I get OTA updates after this root? I am waiting for ICS. It's going to b awsm. Please check below link:

Hi,
I installed a custom kernel under the latest stock rom. Here is the guide:
http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2010/11/samsung-galaxy-s-how-to-install.html
this speedmod kernel looks promising. After installed the kernel you just have to install the super user from play store and titanium backup if you like..

Cheers
I'm about to try chainfire's kernal and root my Note for the first time.
It seems pretty strait forward and looks like something that you might be interested in.

[Q] Update nightly roms without flash?

Hi.
i was wondering if there's a way other than downloading the whole ROM and flashing it everyday for updating nightly roms (maclaw's)?
and if there isn't other way does flashing rom too often harm device?
how often do you update yours?

I think the download and flash method is the only way for now and I don't think it harms your device, I flashed mine everyday for weeks without problems, but I don't update it everyday anymore, I wait a few days or for a changelog with improvements I wanted, whichever comes 1st. There's not much difference in the day to day changelog.

no never think that rooting or flashing will harm device if u think like that ull be panicked when it wont boot and we have nightlies if only cm or any other aosp roms are official and no we all dont want it official as maclaw cant do his changelog after it ill flash it in week or any great changes
so no need to flash everyday

until we get a working custom recovrey like TWRP or CWM- no. once this is achieved, the fun will begin (hopefully). if you have KK, we're all waiting. if you have JB, you may have more room to play with if you know how to develop or "tweak" your phone to your liking. without a recovery, we're all pretty much useless. hope this helps

As far as I know, no one has really been dippin into JB to Dev a ROM or two. I believe there is someone in the CWM/TWRP thread saying that they are going to attempt to Dev a Stock ROM for the time being. kind of like a Hybrid JB/KK style ROM. not sure if he'll have time to do so from what he was postin. Kernels I dont think anyone has actually touched.

[Q] i9305 stock rom without boat ware?

I see there is so called stock roms with boat ware removed but most seem to have lots of other changes are they really stable as in exactly like stock? I am also not sure how I know which one was my phones original stock. I bought it on eBay and it's had various roms flashed. So ideally I would like to have it unrooted and just the bloatware removed but maybe that's not possible so rooted and no bloatware would be ok. Thanks

Most of the stock roms in the development section are quite stable and all the info about removed bloatware is also stated in the threads of those roms.
You can find your original stock rom at http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ or http://live.samsung-updates.com/index.php?device=GT-I9305, according to your country and carrier (the country where you live is your official firmware, doesnt matter that you have bought it from ebay and what firmware it had on it before). After you download the firmware flash it with odin, but be warned about KNOX bootloader on 4.3 official firmwares! If youre not knoxed yet, you can update to 4.3 stock rom without getting the knox bootloader with this Rom.
If you prefer your own official firmware, you need to remove the bloatware by yourself using a file manager with root acces. Be careful with what you delete if you gonna do so! always READ EVERYTHING carefully and do lots of RESEARCH :good:

Yes thanks unfortunately I do have the Knox warranty void 1 message swerev a2 think it says as well I thought it might mean I'm in trouble. I hear you can't reset it so I can't go to any official firmwares now?
I really need stability I thought cm 10.1 would be stable but there's lots of crashes... by pretty stable you mean cm 10.1 pretty stable type thing for the boat ware removed roms? Want to find something near or as good as official...thanks.
EDIT: OK so hmm getting some mixed messages reading about it all but basically I went from 4.3 stock to cm11 then to carbon rom and finally to cm 10.1.3 so I think I can go back to stock 4.3 using any uk based stock from Sammobile? Not sure which would be best yet but I am with three so I might do the h3g one. Or possibly a rom with bloat removed 4.3 or above... Guess the warranty is gone now...and hopefully I'll be ok for any upgrades in the future...

Sounds good but I usually avoid new updates at first I prefer stability to a certain extent so you can't just update it? You have to do a fresh install? Anyway I'm on it now and it is very stable compared with the other roms I've used - very nice. Not sure if I did all the options correctly but I'll have to test...Still getting weird white patches on this xda form web pages in chrome...had this with every Rom I tried...not quiet so bad with this Rom but still there...strange only happens with this Web site too?!

Which ROM for most settings and customizability?

Which ROM should I install if I want the most amount of settings and ways to customize things?
Some additional thoughts...
Does one even need a custom ROM these days, or can most things be changed using "Xposed installer"?
Are there any drawbacks using a custom ROM?
1. RR is a good choice IMO.
2. More features to play with. Themes. More updates.
3. Xposed doesn't exist on Nougat.
4. Nope except not be able to use full stock features. Stability? It depends on the ROMs and the maturity of the Android version.

Oxygen OS apps (but you can get a port version for Camera and Gallery)
Dark UI (but you can flash a ROM supporting Substratum)

I don't remember OOS well and since I have a preference for custom ROMs over stock firmware I can't give you many reasons to stay on OOS. If you want to have the latest Android version, some day you will have flash a custom ROM.

I've spent ten minutes trying to figure out which one is the official (or best) version of Resurrection Remix. Can you point me in the right way?
The one in your signature says it has a pirate-icon if you install pirate stuff. And while I may not do that, I still don't like the idea of that.
So which RR would you recommend?

Both versions have this anti piracy measure I think.
I recommend the unofficial builds since I'm using them ?
It has extra features such as delta updates, signature spoofing support,... and the dev is always available to help and answer our questions.

You could have just flashed the ROM days ago, and have decided yourself; instead of waiting for others to dictate what you will or will not like. And just because someone recommends it, doesn't mean you will even like it.

Agreed.
Agreed nicesoni ash has the best build in my opinion and the dev is great and very supportive of the rom and it's users. And there are lots of unofficial builds for nicesonis rom but you only need to install the latest one.
