A few weeks ago when I still had my HTC Hero it was overclocked to 672Mhz (standard = 528Mhz). It gave me a little boost in performance on Froyo, also the batterylife wasn't decreased too much.
But with our N1 running on 1Ghz, will it give much difference when clocked to 1113/1152Mhz? And what about batterylife?
If SetCPU is used what are your settings then? Mine is currently running on stock speed, no SetCPU.

I have my nexus one rooted and flashed to MIUI Rom and clock @ 690mhz I get way better battery power. Before I would only get 6hr to 8hr if lucky now I get from 9hr to 13hr depending how much I use it.
set to 1.13 ghz
then screen off to minimum 245mhz

So you underclocked it, what about the speed? It's not to laggy?
Nexus one can run reasonably smooth @ 600mhz and above. It might not open applications as fast as it will be @ 1GHz though.
i think 1Ghz is enough for n1

I didn't said I want an overclock. It's allready very fast on 1Ghz (compared to my old Hero ), just wanted to know your thoughts about overclocking the N1.
im overclocked at 1152 mhz and profiles set for 245 max with screen off. Overclocking is nice because i like the snappiness but most people cant tell the difference between 998 mhz and 1152. its not needed to overclock but i think profiles help alot. just my two cents

I have my N1 only for a couple of weeks now and I must say, this phone is awesome. It's VERY fast compared to my old Hero. I remember when I was installing apps on my Hero it became very slow and couldn't do anything untill installing was finished. With the N1 you still can do things while installing apps without lag. The responsiveness and smoothness is also a lot faster. I loved my Hero Because it never let me down, ok it was all a bit slower, but it was getting there. Now with the release of Gingerbread (custom ROM) it became to slow for me and that's why I sold my Hero and bought the N1. It was very difficult to find one, because of the EOL (end of life). But eventually I found one and i'm very happy with it. The N1 is allready more 1 year old, but it still competes with the best phones out there.
I generally run overclocked at 1075MHz, which gives a good balance between battery power usage and processor power. My understanding is that a different voltage scaling method is generally used above 1075MHz, so power consumption will increase above that point.

This is, of course, dependent upon how the kernel is constructed, but this is what I have generally found to be true.
Give us some feedback
I overclocked it too 1075Mhz when screen is on (screen off 245Mhz). Will give my thoughts in a day or 2.
Just report that my battery drain is almost the same as on stock settings. I think it drains a tiny bit faster on 1075Mhz, but nothing major. On the other hand, I don't feel it's faster on 1075Mhz then on stock speed. Only benchmarks give me performance increase.
I'm now on CM6.1.1 with stock kernel (cyanogen), I tried other kernels like Wilmonks kernel,.. Although it was more responsive, battery was going down even faster. I get best battery results with stock kernel.
Hard to choose
more speed = more battery drain
less speed = longer battery
I think I stay with the last option (less speed = longer battery), because Wildmonks kernel doesn't give me enough performance increase over the stock kernel on stock speed.
I have mine at 998mhz, but overclocked 1152 while plugged into power.
Either way, its so easy to play with the clock settings, i'd just have a play with a bunch of different settings if i were you.

You can use SetCPU to create profiles based on different circumstances.
Me, I have mine clocked to a max of 1075 and min of 245 with the screen on, 576 max / 128 min screen off, 998/128 charging (to reduce heat - overclocking while power is applied can make it silly hot), and a failsafe to clock down to 576/128 if the temperature gets over 50*C.

Correct me if I am wrong. When you use setcpu to "ondemand", the CPU speed can ramp up to max whenever necessary, otherwise the speed will tune down to min especially in standby mode. In that way, you can enjoy the advantages of overclocking and underclocking the CPU speed i.e. increasing performance when needed and saving power when not in use, right? When I loaded Rod's MIUI and Wildmonk's kernel, I can underclock down to 128Mhz and overclock up to 1.152Ghz. At the end of the day, I still have over 60% of power left after not so heavily use (some web browsing, checking email and listen some music). Overall, setcpu is a great app for me.
I've just flashed emanoN v3, it has No-Frills CPU control app by default, I used this app to set my CPU like this: Max 710Mhz, Min 245Mhz, Governor performance, I/O scheduler deadline --> Apply on Boot.
But is it me or it doesn't make any work on my Galaxy mini? I still get lag on many games like when not overclocked!

I am having my mini with cm7.1.0 music edition and overclocked it to 782 MHz and I find that in set CPU native benchmark I found that it took 900 micro second less when I clocked it to 782 MHz so I can say that Oct really works it also make my device run more smoothly its true that some games like angry birds lags yet after oc

maybe ur device has power enough to play many games that requires high-end hw, maybe not
but I wanna push my galaxy mini to play the effing awesome games just like the other high-end devices

OC can improve device's performance, but that improvement was identified by ur own experiences or measurement software?
that's right, I've got lag in angry birds even after OC

I also OC my CM7.0.2 RC2 with 782 OC kernel. Got 1837 score on Antutu Benchmark. Love it.

Many games are tailored towards devices with 1Ghz processors and newer (including dualcore and advanced GPU's like the Tegra2 and Exynos chipsets). Don't expect the latest games to run reliably on a sub-800Mhz singlecore device.
Apps that require Chainfire3D are unlikely to work very well at all on the SGM as they're generally aimed at the higher-performance devices.
If you want to see the difference an overclock makes, then run an AnTuTu CPU benchmark before & after overclocking. If the figure doesn't change much (You should expect an increase roughly relative to the % of the overclock) then something isn't working correctly.

yup! I just expect the Oc makes change that I can feel thru my own experiences! I dont want to see a good result on Antutu then THINK my device has better performance!!! U know what I mean?

We are lucky because s5570 is equipted with gpu. Why dont you try using cm7.2 oc with 782 kernel. Plus a2sd and v6 supercharger.

Note: I have overheated and shutdown at 1504 web browsing. At 1400MHz I have had no issues. I see some scores are through the roof. I'm not to familiar with Overclocking and just would like to hear what you guys have to say. Thanks in advance. I may of posted this in the wrong area and I apologize. I would like this to be a thread on the topic rather than a Q & A.
Well I personally run my tab @1200Mhz with -25mV on the 1000&1200 steps, but anyhow, due to the interactive governor the most used setps are 216, 456 and 1200. I don't undervolt the lower test for stability reasons as I mostly work on the tablet so I don't want to test yet how low uV can go, don't have the time to test it right now. (Even though I'm pretty sure -25mV even on lower steps is still largely stable)
As for the set CPU test I tried them out on 1504Mhz: 150 and 595ms. I once pushed the tab to 1600Mhz but it ended up in an immediate freeze so I will skip on trying that again.
I don't have linpack but tried running GLBench 2.1 Egypt and the score was pretty embarrasing
Thanks for sharing. Since my post I have flashed aokp-34 galaxiansoup with v-3 of the Motley Kernal. Running 1400 on 216 no undervolting and am seeing a tiny increase in numbers. I'm still stumped on these linpack scores. This thing runs great. No complaints whatsoever. Anyone want to chime in on the best bench testing app or what the stock numbers on these 7310's are?
everyone will tell you that benchmark scores aren't very representative!
run the test 5 times and each time you will get a slightly different score.
i don't really care about benchmarking, as long as i feel that my tab runs smooth (which i think it does) im pretty happy. im normally at 1,4ghz and everything is smooth and stable!

I just don't understand the numbers and how certain device's have like 100 times my mflops......I'm a numbers guy by nature, I like to see it on paper....but I am content with my device. Just always looking to make it cleaner and faster.....you know the addiction I'm sure.

Yes, I've not ran into any issues. Totally impressed and content with v3 motley. If there is a better kernel out there I'd love to hear about. I have yet to look, no need.
Been running a few custom profiles via Setcpu peaking @1.5GHz on B37 for a few weeks now. Other than a force close or two and an occasional browser freeze, which is normal with these roms, this thing is running pretty snappy. Gotta watch the temp though.

I sure hope that you've set up your profiles so that your tab overclocks to 1.5Ghz only occasionally, it's a thing that you HW can handle it, but will it on the long term?
Also, I regret that you can't overclock the bus frequency to get an overall performance boost (the GPU could really use it..) as on the Galaxy S
Yeah, I'm only pushing 1.5 on occasion, per profile. I normally run 1.4 all day everyday for the last 3 months with heavy use and no issues. Just gotta watch the temp. I've had mine to 113 degrees which kinda scared me.

Just for the fun of it I asked a friend to benchmark our devices , both 4Xs.We used geekbench 2 .My friend got a score of 1160 and I got 1214.
The thing is when i searched in google , I saw that the 4X had achieved a score of 1661.I tried with various apps to set the cpus at max frequency and with performance governor , but nothing changed.Still over 30% down from the max score shown online.
Is it possible ,the better battery efficiency we got in V10h, to be originated from downgrading the performance of the cpu ?
What do you think ?
Hey! Not sure about question in general, sorry. But my Antutu benchmark did go sown by over a thousand when I upgraded to v10h. I did start a thread on it, had a few responses from similar. Search forums for v10h and Antutu. You may be on to something. Sorry couldn't be of more help.

Ι'm not worried about this matter at all , but it was a big suprise to see such big difference.A friend of mine who has a xiaomi M2 scored 2070 with his s4 krait cpu.Almost twice as much.It makes you wonder...
Thats a pretty big difference, I'm scoring about 1600 on geekbench.
Maybe ur having a faulty device?
i dont think so .On quadrant i get over 5200 score and on antutu over 14000.
Many of us in a 4X forum , we get scores in antutu from 13900 - 14200 so there arent big differences between them.

CPU Spy Plus indeed shows 1836 Mhz used! I did´t do anything for that.
You might re-think this. Using 1512Mhz instead by default and let the users choose that high speed CPU mode themselves as it may not be stable on all devices.
That 324Mhz added is a huge step...there is no step in between possible?
What about voltages. Did you modify anything? Is the voltage raised to achieve the high cpu frequency? Please post some more information about what happens here...

Lower than without OC? Needs retesting (14230 point when setting max to 1836Mhz and Min to 1512Mhz(!!!???)...maybe the benchmark is wrong...Will give it some time to see if I myself feel a speedup.
After Restart Antutu Score ends up @ 19761 points...not bad. but clearyl not enough looking at the massice OC done. REBOOT! Tab just rebooted! So 1836Mhz is not stable at mine! Trying 1728Mhz now instead.
18139 points....this kernel lacks some serious power if we can believe the scores of antutu. This is a V0.1 so nothing to worry too soon. You´ll make it find it´s power
Switched back to kernel from pulser_g2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2444452) and 19908 points without any OC! You may look into it.
But please answer the other questiones I wasn´t able to clear myself.

I've tested Antutu with 1512MHz and 1836MHz. For my Tablet Z, I got ~20000 (1512MHz) and ~23000 (1836MHz).
My Tablet Z has fast binning CPU. Can you please tell me which binning your CPU is? Thank you!
hard to tell...did taht thing in Terminal emulator....it tells me "1".

Don´t know....after the disastrous performance of the first release I of course switched back to stock.
Now there is the new version which does not cut performance in stock mode.
I´ll OC now to 1728 Mhz and see how it performs with that....battery life is not really good with stock so if you are already asking...FORGET ABOUT alternative kernels not optimized for battery.
That is why I don´t use CM oder AOKP on my Note1. I just eats the battery for breakfast....
OK OC just seemed to scale...20300 points (ca. 19300 at stock speed)...trying 1836 Mhz now.
17389 points....clear drawback....possibly because my device seems to have a bad CPU from what I´ve learned....wanted to use the 17xx Mhz anyway....oops....device just rebooted....my device just isn´t capable of the max cpu setting. :crying:
Anyway the working 1728 Mhz working is great news!

I have two APQ8064 devices, Nexus 4 and Tablet Z. Nexus 4 is 0 (slow), it will reboot sometimes even on [email protected], the Antutu would force close and red light of death would happen if you ignore it and attempt to run again. While my Tablet Z is 2 (fast), this can run at [email protected] and got 23XXX in Antutu.
I don't have an idea which frequency can the 1 (nominal) APQ8064 clock at, but I think [email protected] will be OK. Also, keep eyes on the CPU float-point section in Antutu. At 1512Mhz, it is around 2000. At 1836MHz, it is around 2200. If this drop lower, just pull up the voltage BUT NOT TOO MUCH!!!

What is the terminal command to find out? I also considered custom retelling to add some processing oomph. On a per app basis, but reading this... Stock SGP311 on 4.2.2 is chugging fine just north of 20000 points on Antutu. Can we compare Versions? Mine is 3.3.1. I faintly recall reading they mixed up some benchmarking internals because some corporations found loopholes to cheat / inflate scores on new to market devices, maybe that's the discrepancy there?
Another wild thought, could there maybe be, aside from different CPU Models, different kinds of cache / memory scattered through the devices? Would not be the first time a sub par. Cache/Memory bottleneck severely strangled a nominally and factually quicker CPU into much lower overall results. Much depends on weighting within Antutu
Man, what happened with your kernel? We need some stock kernels for 4.3
