first you will have to bootloader unlock your One.

Then you will have to root:

Yes you do need to unlock the bootloader, before you can flash a custom recovery. Rooting comes later. The rom is either rooted or not, you do not need one rom to be rooted to flash another.

Most custom roms are already rooted when you install, You will not loose the carrier unlock flashing roms.
I also notice you are on Sprint, be very carefull to use the right custom recovery and a compatible rom with that device.

No. A custom ROM wouldn't lock or unlock the phone. It can be unlocked for any SIM and still be stock firmware, it can also be unlocked for any SIM and have a custom rom.
The two things are completely different.
Hope this helps.
You can do whatever you want to any rom, and that won't affect anything that makes it unlocked
thx for replying,
so meaning, currently the phone is unlocked, and i downgrade to RC29
so it wont be locked again ?
because need to downgrade to root-ed the firmware....
is this mean, downgrade my unlocked phone firmware to RC29
in the process, it will not reset my phone from unlock back to lock status ??
if it will not make my phone locked back again during the process
and i success downgrade to RC29 i can gain root access, then i can update to custom firmware
so another question, in the upgrading process (flasing to custom firmware or cupcake 1.5) will it set back from unlock to locked ??
sorry for my bad english
appreciate for replying, i need to know before i done anything
in the process,
Hi. I also have an unlocked phone. It was unlocked prior I downgraded it, and flashed new custom roms, and it is still unlocked. As the others said no need to worry, if i'm right the locking thing is in deeper level. Of course everything you do with your phone is your responsibility.

Yes, you can still unlock it through T-Mo. No one at T-Mo needs to have physical access to your phone, they can give you an unlock code over the phone.

One has nothing to do with the other. ROMs have nothing to do with the SIM cards and SIM cards have nothing to do with ROMs. T-Mobile isn't going to come to your house and spank you for having a custom ROM because they "know"

[Q] So does the method of rooting the normal HTC One work on the Google edition?

My HTC One just came in and i'm switching from iPhone so i am currently very inexperienced on the android platform. If the rooting method is the same, I am set, but if it is different, i might need some additional help if possible

right now you'll just have to try.
fastboot oem unlock to unlock the bootloader
then push a custom recovery
then install supersu.zip just like we do now.
The only unknown is do custom recovery we have now work on the GE phone or do we need a new port

I'm also coming from an iPhone and thus a beginner...would this suffice for simply unlocking the bootloader and rooting? I have no plans of flashing any ROMs yet. I mostly just want root access for Tasker and Titanium backup.
Thanks.

It's trivial as far as rooting most devices goes.

flash custom recovery

How to gain root with S-Off but bootloader locked

Hi,
My device is currently S-Off. I don't have root anymore and I relocked my bootloader. I'd like to be able to remove the test device message but all the links I found requires to have root or to go back to S-On. I tried using HTC DEV to unlock my bootloader again to flash custom recovery and then to flash supersu.zip but it didn't unlock my bootloader. I also tried to just do a fastboot boot customrecovery.img and also didn't work. Any idea if with S-Off, bootloacker relocked, no root access, I can removed the HTC test device message?
thanks

Check out this thread on unlocking your bootloader without HTCDev. If you are able to do that, then you should be able to flash a custom recovery. You can use the Guru Bootloader Reset tool to remove the tampered sign and I think the test device will go away.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I was referring to but I can't run that since I don't have root access. If there could be a temporary way of getting root access with a locked bootloader and s-off, that could probably work to use what's being said in your link
1) Which is the best recovery? C-Mod or TWRP or any other, i mean i want that to support maximum number of stable roms and that is widely used by developers. Can you suggest me a link?
AND
2) For any rooting procedure you first have to S-Off, then unlock the bootloader, root, then install a recovery and flash a ROM..........right?
AND
3) How to be S-Off and rooted and have Locked as a message on the bootloader?

if you're still looking for this, root access is available in custom recovery (so no need to mess with the ROM), and with s-off you can flashed a masked firmware using ruu mode:

You can't do that with the i537, it has a locked bootloader.
i think i got my bootloader unloacked, when i start my phone up it shows a unlocked lock with the word custom under it or does everyone have that?

That typically happens when you root the phone. Trust me, if you were ever able to unlock your bootloader you would be entitled to thousands of dollars.

The only thing you can do is use SafeStrap which will allow you to boot custom TouchWiz-based ROMs. It is impossible to install any ROM that requires a custom kernel (CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, AOSP, etc.) on the i537.

[Q] Is it possible to root my HTC One M7?

Hello,
I need help. So I have a regular Verizon HTC One M7 running on 5.0.2 with Sense 6. I want to know if it's possible to root this yet. I've looked everywhere and can't find any luck. Does anyone know if it's possible yet and if so, how? I'm kind of a noob when it comes rooting (first time) so I really don't know what to be looking for. Also, do I have to pay for S-off (What does that even do?) or can I root without it?
Thanks to anyone who tries to help
Google sunshine s off, that will be your best bet, after you get s off u probably unlock boot loader , then using a custom recovery you can root. Verizon is a pain when it comes to rooting

Well the only way you can be able to flash a custom ROM is by gaining S-OFF on this one so that means you will have to pay $25 for sunshine and then install a custom recovery then you can flash the ROMs found in the development forum for the Verizon HTC One. If you are having problems with sunshine as you said that you are on the latest software update from Verizon, you can see this thread for help. Here's an article talking about S-OFF. You might want to check it out. Lastly, you must be wondering why the users of the HTC One from Verizon has to achieve S-OFF before everything else. It's because Verizon has locked the M7 down making it impossible to unlock using HTC Dev and the only way to be able to flash a custom ROM is by getting S-OFF'ed and getting your bootloader unlocked using sunshine.
You can flash a custom recovery by using fastboot and typing the following command in the command line.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <recoveryName>.img
In where <recoveryName> is the name of the custom recovery image you are going to flash.
Good luck!
-TAM
You'll need to
achieve temp root
use sunshine to unlock the bootloader / s-off --->25$
flash a custom recovery (TWRP)
and you can root flashing latest supersu.zip in custom recovery
Im sure there is some threads in the Verizon HTC One forum explaining how to achieve temp root

I don't need S-off because I don't have plans to add a rom. I just want to give apps root access. Can I use HTCDev.com to unlock my bootloader?
EDIT: I read what the guy above me said. I guess I have to pay for Sunshine.
