Ok- So I am not getting the advantage of the MOTO X

Hello,
I have the HTC One M8 and a MOTO X. I know the X provides the Nexus like experience, but the One seems to be faster and better constructed and generally faster. From what I can tell the screens are about equal thought the X is warmer. They both have 32 GB storage but the One has Micro SD. I did not have the original X but I am not blown away by the user expereince of the X, what am I not understanding about how great this phone is supposed to be?

I can't say about the new one yet. But I know by the old one. I left my nexus 5 for dead once I started using this phone made me go from a nexus 5 32gb to a 16gb motox I still won't switch back and I have one gig of storage left.
I haven't felt the new one yet. But this phone just feels right in your hand. But I've heard the m8 is sort of like that too.
Might sound stupid but the touch less control is something that becomes the way it should be. Would be weird to not have it but I see Google doing this eventually in all phones.
The one thing that I would really go crazy with is ..this phone wakes up when you pull it out a your pocket. I haven't touched the power button to wake in 8 months. I grab my wife's Iphone expecting to wake.
Really I think how apple amazes millions with some great features, design with low specs and great feel and usability of hardware and software is what the moto x has that maybe other androids do not. You just have to use it for a while and you will see. I hope th new one isn't to large for the feel factor or that will be negated and the software will not be worth it. It is the whole package combined that makes this phone great. Only the voice recognition is the best of any phone otherwise it does nothing the best but everything combined it is the best overall.....oh yeah in my op lol

the X is about just "refining" Android.
I also had a Nexus 5 and once I played with an X I bought one and put my Nexus 5 up for sale. I just got a new 2014 and software wise find it more refined. The only issue I have is that the 2013 was already so good and smooth the 2014 does not really add much, if anything, to it.
The X is for those that want Nexus experience, flagship specs, and great hands free controls. I get by with an 8GB device, if i could but 16 is as small as you can get. I feel that ANYONE that uses an SD card is just poor with data management. Odds are most of your music you load up you don't actually listen to regularly. if you are keeping FULL TV seasons on your phone to watch unless you are traveling thats pointless, you can just load a few eps to get through that day. Same with multiple movies with high bitrates.
I have all the apps I need, and I still have 10GB left. I have 3GB Data, that I pay $64/mo for and I NEVER go over it and I stream Google Music and Pandora in my car when driving to clients all the time. I also get company email and Gmail. I update apps over Mobile Data, and download Podcasts. My photos auto upload to g+. I tether my laptop on occasion. I can not see how anyone can go over 3GB unless you are also torrenting or doing a LOT of social media videos and photos. The closest I have come is 2.7GB in the last 18 months.
People say they need storage because they don't have Unlimited Data. You don't need unlimited data. You just need to not be stupid with your data. I know people that pay more than I do (by like $25-30) and don't get the same amount of data I do just because they refuse to show around carriers.

I agree with that too about storage. I've felt the M8 and it does feel very nice in my hands but I hate HTC Sense. It ruins the Android experience for me.

how is the One M8 faster than the Moto X? both use the same chipset. i feel the Moto X is just as fast or faster than most of the skinned Android phones. for the screens, both are using different technologies. each will have their pitfalls
Moto X is mainly for those who want some added (useful) functionality on top of stock Android. if you like Sense, then stick with the One. if you want stock with some added things, Moto X. if you want just stock, then Nexus is the way to go. choices are good :good:

I do like Sense- it has gotten so much better. I also love Nexus because of the all the development, so maybe I will give it a few more days to make a decision. I have the bootloader unlocked and root, so I know some good thing will be coming from the talented devs.

As someone who has owned both my opinions differ.
I find the Moto X 2014 much much faster and smoother than the M8. Even with the M8 running AOSP. ActiveDisplay is just awesome, its a little thing but it really is useful. The Moto X 2014 is easier to hold/use, and doesn't have a ridiculous power button located in a ridiculous spot. (My biggest dislike of the M8). While the M8 structure is beautiful and feels great, I didn't find it comfortable to hold/use. Sense 6 is beautiful but I didn't find it offered any actual value or features that I cared about or ever actually used.
Not that it takes much but the Moto X camera, while still lagging behind, is still far better than that crap 4up camera that HTC loves so much.
The Moto X does not really shine in any one way, it doesn't leap out in the crowd, its just a great phone to use.

Motorola seems to be the only Android manufacturer who actually cares about user experience. I downgraded from a Nexus 5 to the 2013 Moto X last year because it offered a much better experience. I upgraded to the 2014 Moto X this year and am not waiting for the Nexus. If you've never owned a Moto before you won't realize everything you are missing.
Moto X offers the following improvements for me:
-Active Display - HUGE plus if you've never used it
-Touchless Controls - I use this constantly in the car and at home when I'm working
-Moto Assist - great for when I am in meetings all day to silence my phone and auto reply
-Shake to activate camera - very underrated feature but if you're trying to take photos in a snap it's extremely handy
-Wave to wake phone to check notifications and silence calls - again underrated but works beautifully
-Bluetooth unlock when my 360 is connected so I don't have to type in my PIN
-Moto Migrate to keep all of my existing data seamlessly
-As close to stock as possible with these helpful additions
Also other considerations:
-Exceptional build quality - although M8 also has extremely good build quality
-Motorola is one of the only companies that actually pays attention to cell signal and reception and is superior, my Moto X 2013 hands down had better signal than my N5, 2014 is great for signal too, HTC Notoriously bad for signal
-Audio noise cancellation - the sound quality when recording and on a call is much better than other phones I have used. Moto X 2013 was FAR superior to N5 in this regard, I don't have a M8 to compare but consider it
-FAST upgrade time, we will be one of the first to get Android L - This is huge for me

I suppose a good answer will be when android L comes out, X should have it quick (of course lenovo taking over and Soni gone could change that) whereas HTC will probably be 6+ months behind because they have to retro fit the junkwear onto the new OS.

Who the hell wants skinned android L????! Not me!

Current phone: Pure version Moto X on T-Mobile network
Comparison:
Con: touch sensitivity does not seem as good. Using swipe gestures in Nova Launcher I never had to repeat a swipe on the Nexus 5, but I occasionally do on the Moto X. I noticed there seems to be more of a lag when scrolling the screen on the Moto X. I set the phone to use ART instead of Dalvic and it seemed to help some, but the touch response still has a perceptible delay.
Pro: Voice command works well, even in noisy environments
Reception is improved
Speaker phone loudness and clarity is multiple times better. It is good and plenty loud.
IR sensors and software work great.
Screen is a little bigger, which I like.
Voice command to toggle silent mode is handy.
Battery life seems the same, or maybe slightly better.
UPDATE: I switched from Nova launcher to the Google Now Launcher, and the touch lag I mentioned in the Cons section above is no longer noticeable.
Con: I think the handoff from WiFi to cellular is not a smooth transition. The phone tries to hang on a weak WiFi signal to long before it switches to cellular, and I do have 'avoid poor connections' selected in the WiFi advanced options.

Thanks for all the comments. I had not given the X a real chance so I did, and I do love the active display and voice commands- very unique, good expereince, but HOW could Moto put a 2,300mah battery in this? The battery was flat by 2:30 under moderate use. I guess we need a UV kernel and some good battery tweaks ASAP.
I do really like the screen too, the blacks are so black, and the colors pop, almost too much... And it does just feel good in your hand.
I will give it a few more days to see how battery life occurs...

I just picked up the new x an I also have the m8. I'm really liking the x so far never had anything besides HTC I still have my m8 tho.
Edit I been on mine all day now it has not got hot at all. Running real smooth

To comment on the battery life. Yes it's not AMAZING, probably my only complaint with the device, but it works as advertised. With fairly heavy use my first full day of charge, everything turned on, here was my usage pattern:
-Bluetooth, Wifi, and Location On
-Approx 11 hours connected to Wifi and about 8 hours using 4G
-Google Now On
-Brightness Auto
-Streaming music for approx. 1.5 hours
-GPS in use for approx. 20 min
-Screen on time just over 3 hours
-Total time until battery died almost 19 hours
That for me is much better than my original X. I have to charge the phone once a day anyway. That type of usage pattern is moderate to heavy and lasted from when I woke up to when I went to bed.

This is promising to me. I have been only htc flagship phones since day 1. On my m8 I can got 26 hours heavy use from full to dead. An I was worried bout battery on this phone but everything else I read made me jump ship an try the new moto. I'm really liking the phone since I picked one up yesterday...

Unimpressed !

Coming from the Droid Maxx i am unimpressed. I thought with all the specs being better the phone would be better. It isn't. Not by a long shot. Today with my first full day of what would be its normal use
1 - the battery didnt make it through 3/4 of the day with out me having to plug it in( same as my maxx).
2- You cant talk and go online at the same time or use any apps that require an internet connection. This is a deal breaker for me. Not only have I become used to having that ability I now rely on it and need that ability. I called Verizon and the guy told me that at the end of the year there wohld be an update to make it so i could via Wifi. As I said this is a deal breaker for me. I informed the man i would be returning the phone.
3- The phone gets hot ? I was litstening to my music and noticed how warm it was through my pocket ?
4- This so called rapid charger is garbage. It still took 3-4 hours to charge the phone completly. The charger it's self only has room for 1 usb cord and the way its set up it takes up 2 spots on my surg protector..
If your coming from a Samsung or LG or any other phone your probably going to like it. I think that the 2013 line of Moto phones set the bar so high that the bump in the specs just isnt enough to impress( except for the new X phone. My girlfriend has one and it is a worthy step forward ) I hope this isnt the direction Moto is heading w/ Leveno being in charge.
That all being said. I'll be sending this phone back and looking at the Nexus. Hopefully it will impress .
P.S. My girlfriends X is uploading Lolipop right now.

#1, #3, and #4 are all related to the battery, which could be defective, or it may just need to be reconditioned. The rapid charger is designed to rapidly charge up to 8 hours battery life in 15 minutes, after that it will then slow down to complete the full charge. The phone has been known to get hot when it is on the rapid charger.
But even if you get past the battery issues, #2 is still a deal breaker for you.
BTW: Lenovo didn't take over Motorola until the end of October and the Turbo was already in the works before then.

You listed the specs as reasoning for buying the phone and then rattled off nitpicks which aren't specs related.
I'm curious what your screen settings are and screen on time is. That battery usage seems uncharacteristic from what I've seen on mine and in the battery thread.

#2 was covered in every review of the phone that I saw online. If that was a deal breaker you should have done better research on the phone before you bought it. You could have saved yourself time and money and saved us your sob story lol. The rest seems like you got a bad unit but, we would need to know your "screen on-time" to get a better idea.
I find it funny that you put down the Turbo for battery life and praise the X which has maybe the smallest battery of any 2014 flagship phone. If you had the X it probably would have been dead in half the time as the Turbo.

My screen settings are 1 , brightness is on auto and as for sleep its at 1 min.
Your right I missed the part of the reviews I read about how the phone is not capable of simotainously making a phone call and going online at the same time. ( Something 4g lte brought us a few of years ago and that my 3-4 year old bionic is capable of ? ). I'm sorry you felt my thoughts on this supposed flagship phone was a sob story. I felt it was more of a warning to other Maxx owners who were about make a similar mislead decision. Also having used both phones ( and not just held them at the store ) I think my review of the was spot on. If you already have a Maxx or Ultra the Turbo is NOT a big enough step forward to warrant the change. As far the new X goes it IS a step forward from last years model. So enjoy your ignorante bliss opinion and your time with your over spected but uselessly speced phone as my Maxx does everything your silly phone does and more ( i can go on the net and talk at the same time )

Tom I still suspect you got a bad unit. Battery is an area where the Turbo really shines. That's great if you're happy w/the Maxx over the Turbo, but I think your statement

Is a little exaggerated.

Mr. 64impala (BTW nice car) . You could very well be right. I could have got a bad unit. However after spending a few days with the phone I'm not willing to put the time and energy into getting a replacement . I would just rather send it back and stick with my Maxx. I hope this phone brings you guys much enjoyment and satisfaction. I was just hoping for another game changing phone like the Maxx was for me. It was never my intention to put down the turbo although after reading my review I could see how was taken that way.

I am using on Tmo- and #2 is not a problem for me. Bestphone ever. Not sure how many cycles you have been through on the batt, but I am a power user like you and this is the only phone that I have had that makes it through the day. The X lasted until about 1pm....

Just going to mention this since no-one brought it up.
The phone can already do voice and data if you are connected via wifi. I tested this just now to be 120% sure.
Verizon has said they will be releasing an update by the end of the year to enable VoLTE (Voice over LTE). This will allow you to use the data connection while on a call when you are NOT connected to wifi. This was discussed in nearly all of the reviews that I read about the phone.

Man, I have a Turbo and love it, but VoLTE is not going to be all it's cracked up to be, especially for those that travel or live in spotty areas. Because:
1. You are connected to LTE and make a call. Great! You have data. But if you go outside of LTE the call drops. No auto switching to CDMA, better hang up and call again.
2. You are outside of LTE when the call starts. To bad, you have no data. Travel into an area with LTE? To bad, call won't auto switch to VoLTE; you'd have to hang up and make a new call. and make sure to stay in LTE range because of #1.
I get what they are trying to do, but going outside of LTE and having a call just DROP is going to make a lot of people very, very angry.

Ya, I will agree, the fact that it will drop the call if you lose LTE coverage does suck.
Unfortunately this is likely going to be an issue with most phones going forward, not something just specific to the turbo.

I'll be taking mine back. I put almost two weeks into mine and I don't think the battery is great. The moto voice is sketchy at best not even topping last year's moto x. I came from an LG G2 and just watching how crappy this camera is, compared to a phone with almost half the mp is ridiculous. They added the top of the line processor a high mp camera locked up the bootloader and called it a day. If you like to take pictures (my main appeal for the high mp count, or want something more than vanilla android., don't bother with this phone. This is the last chance I gave to Moto. Just not my thing.

The Mega Pixel Myth
You do realize that just because it is a high megapixel camera that that doesn't mean it is a high quality camera?
A megapixel is nothing more than one million tiny dots of color. Having a high megapixel camera just means that you have more dots in the photo. It doesn't mean that they will be perfect dots. It could very well be 21 million crappy dots. A good photo has more to do with the camera lens, circuitry, sensors, lighting, composition, etc.
The truth is that you don't really need anything more than 8 megapixels to take a great photo that can be printed on an 8 x 10. Anything more than that is just overkill.
The only reason why I like having a camera with more megapixels is so that I can crop them and still have an image with enough pixels to look good printed.

Just to address the OPs second issue, I'm using the Turbo on Three in the UK and can use the data connection and make calls at the same time without issue.

The Turbo has only one modem in it, capable of both CDMA and GSM, but not at the same time. With VZW, calls take place on CDMA, but data is over LTE (GSM). Other carriers that have been mentioned in this thread (TMO, Three) are GSM carriers so calls take place over GSM as well.

[Q] Questions about the Moto X before buying

Hi all, I'm considering buying a Moto x for my phone, which I will be keeping for two years. I however have several questions regarding the Moto X.
Is the battery really as bad as the press makes you believe? Gsmarena has a pretty bad 48h rating for the X, while 60-70 is the average. For me, on weekdays, the phone is connected to WiFi all day and is used for light browsing and some gaming, about 3h of SOT, while on weekends, my phone is on HSPA+ or LTE, and about 4h of SOT. Will the X survive a while day for me, based on estimates?
I'd also like to ask about how well the phone software has aged - is it lagging or any major problems popped up? Anyway, that's all I wanted to know as the phone looks like an attractive optio!

Bought this phone in December as an upgrade from my Galaxy s3 (i9300) after using it for almost 2.5 years.
Had the same intention in mind of keeping it for at least 2 years.
Wrt the battery, I generally get 3.5-4 hours SOT on Wi-Fi with location services on and 3-3.5 hours on LTE. I haven't rooted the phone and don't plan to any time soon. The software is snappy and I've not noticed any lag at all.
Also, I'm not a very heavy user of the camera but whenever I need it, the X doesn't disappoint me.

I got the x right after it came out I will say its just as snappy as it was when it came out but the battery life on lollipop varies some people have seen 4-5 SOT others like me see 2:30- 3 SOT google play services can sometimes take so much I only get 2 hours SOT or less , but its a great option and I would just get the 32gb If I were you....you'll love having pure android, fast updates, and a beautifully crafted phone ...PS: the 2015 x comes out in September if you can wait for it to see if its better others wise the moto x 2014 is a solid device

Using 16 GB. For my usage needs it's sufficient. You really need to decide this as per your usage. My s3 had 32 (16 internal +16 SD card ). I used most of my external card only because I used to flash a lot of roms and needed space to save nandroid back ups and titanium backups as well. I don't plan to root this phone hence 16 gigs seems sufficient. Also I use the Google photos app to backup my photos to the cloud so my images also don't really clog up space.

the battery is as good as any other phone i've ever used. i currently use my moto x and an iphone 5c. i have high usage on both phones and have no problem making it 8-9 hours with 30% left.

I got the x right after it came out I will say its just as snappy as it was when it came out but the battery life on lollipop varies some people have seen 4-5 SOT others like me see 2:30- 3 SOT google play services can sometimes take so much I only get 2 hours SOT or less , but its a great option and I would just get the 32gb If I were you....you'll love having pure android, fast updates, and a beautifully crafted phone ...PS: the 2015 x comes out in September if you can wait for it to see if its better others wise the moto x 2014 is a solid device

Ah, I would but they don't have the 32GB model here in my country. Such a shame too, because if I lived in the US I would use Moto Maker as well.

You can use a Meenova Dash as a file transfer device if you are uncomfortable having it plugged into your USB port all the time.

Moving to nexus yet?

With the announcement of both the Nexus 5x and the 6p is anyone jumping ship from the Droid Turbo in order for a much easier root/flashing process? The 5x is close in specs but a little underperformed and the 6p is just big.

I really wish I could, but at this point i'm so used to moto display and the big battery, don't think id have an easy time with the tiny battery in the 5x

Too spoiled with vanilla android and Moto features WITH a gigantic 3900 mAh battery. Hard to top

I agree with the battery. Even the Moto Droid Turbo 2 is rumored to have a smaller battery at 3760mAh

So the first tests via phonearena for the Nexus 5x is out and clocks in at 6hrs 25min. The "same" test performed by them on the Droid Turbo in 2014 was over 10 hours. Amazing the difference. Even with "doze" to help the Nexus, Droid turbos will eventually get the update.

Making the jump to a 5X. Tired of waiting 9-12 months for Motorola to update plus ability to now leave Verizon at will. Was an original Maxx user prior to Turbo so definitely nervous about battery, but sounds like 10 minutes to 25% charge may make it easy to top of mid day. ..

Once you receive your phone and had some time to play with it, do you mind letting me know what you think of it? Overall, I like the phone a lot, but it is weird to see the display/battery/other differences.

So 48 hours in, I'm happy with it so far.
Battery: Yesterday under typical usage for me (unplugged ~ 7:30, 1/2 hour morning podcast over bluetooth, couple of calls, 1/2 hour screen on time) at 2:00 I still had about 77% of battery and projected usage time of another 15 hours. That is pretty much identical to where my Turbo usually set at midafternoon. Now obviously it's due to Doze keeping the consumption down when I wasn't using it and if/when 6.0 comes to the Droid it will become a 2-3 day beast of a phone. I've been following others on the Nexus 5X forums and they are getting 4-5 hours screen on time, so if you are a heavy phone on user the Turbo will win hands down. Today for example, where I've had more screen on time (less background email) I'm 11 hours in w/ 1-1/2 hours SOT and sitting at 31% w/ 5 hrs left. My Turbo on a similar weekend day would probably be sitting around 50-70%. Similar to the Turbo, for a quick top off charge 10 minutes is supposed to get you 25% battery so it would be easy for a quick top off on heavier days (did recharge 90% battery in less than an hour the first day)
Speed: I just ran a side by side comparison of the two phones with about the same apps installed and both from a fresh boot. The Turbo is only slightly faster for non-google apps, and the 5X is faster for google apps (guessing optimization for 6.0 is making that difference) but for the most part the speed difference is just barely noticeable (lot's of gnashing of teeth in the 5X forums about the processor and memory of the 5X) but saw the side by side online demo of the 5X and 6P and it's about the same types of differences in speed between the Turbo and 5X (I don't use my phone for games so can't make that check that they did in the video which showed a pretty dramatic difference). The slightly slower speed, is really not noticeable when I'm using the 5X which feels like no lag for me.
Call Quality: So far call quality on the 5X has been great, and on a couple of bluetooth car speaker calls no echo where as I do get occasional complaints of echo on my Turbo (I use Google Voice). I've never had any success with the Turbo Advanced Calling so usually use it straight up. One extra bonus for the 5X, since I can't get Advanced Calling to be stable on the Turbo, is that finally it has the extra antennas so I can do voice / data at the same time.
Size: The 5X is same height, a little narrower, definitely thinner and lighter than the Turbo. I purchased the Adopted case for the Nexus so have no complaints about the plastic of the 5X naked that have been circulating around.
Misc: Fingerprint unlock is awesome. Also, the 5X has Google Now voice recognition when the phone is off so I'm not losing anything there by ditching Moto Voice. Also with the Sensor Hub you get the adaptive display when you pick it up. Not quite as convenient as Moto's proximity activated display but I made the switch over to adaptive on the Droid a few weeks ahead of the 5X so don't really miss it that much. And when you do pick it up, if you want in just a quick tap on the fingerprint sensor and you are good to go vs. the swipe on the Turbo. And the most obvious advantage of the 5X is quick OS updates vs. the Moto delay....
So, 48 hours in I'm pretty sure I'm staying with the 5X. Going to give it another week before I relock my Turbo and give it to my son.

Moto Z Force. After two weeks.

So after two weeks i think i have a good idea on how this device is. Previous phones this year are. S6 Edge, Droid Turbo 2, Nexus 6p, S7 Edge and as of yesterday Note 7. And this is by far the best.
Smooth. Not Nexus smooth...Smoother. Smooth enough to when iphone users are talking about how there is lag in android i just pop on the John Cena entrance song and hand it to them and tell them that iphones are laggy.
Screen is great. Just remember put a tempered glass screen protector on it before you touch the display. I went with the Verizon one as it covers more then the zag. Few parts did not want to go down but after a few hours it was all good and they all went down with no problem. My turbo 2's display always felt t was pretty deep under the shattersheild and digitizer. The z feels like a typical display. Glad they fixed that on what i will call the second gen of shatter shield.
Fingerprint reader's location sucks. But im getting use to it again. But its fastest. Fastest i have ever used. And i love you just touch it again and it locks the phone.
The active display is a nice welcome. Unlike samsungs fail on it Moto did it right. This time smaller sensors and pretty much no impact on battery life..unlike samsung that sucks atleast 8% of the battery on my note 7. Thats kicking 280mAH of battery in the ass every day. They should of really did it like Moto.
Cameras are ok. Better for moto but a bit of a downgrade for point and click vs my S7E and N7. But you can take just as good pictures if you know what you are doing and know how to use all the manual camera settings. Point and click samsung still holds the crown.
Performance. Beast mode. In benchmarks like Antutu its faster in everything and absolutely crushes my N7 and S7E in the Ram part. Like i said this is the smoothest phone you can buy and i really cant bog it down. I was not expecting it to feel this much faster but its enough to flip around in the phone and say "damn thats snappy"
Charging. 35W.......35W Yeah full power you charging at over 6 amps.
Overall i love this phone. Moto mods are amazing. JBL speaker sounds great. Do not get the crapy tumi pack and go right for the incipo. Makes the phone heavy but its easy to hold. The weight will be the turn off for most. But 5,720mAH son. Set to efficacy mode and enjoy.
My S7E and my N7 are being sold. Z force is just better. I love the way my N7 feels and the display is great. But its same old same old. Its bringing nothing new. Nothing to wow me. Nothing to show off...oh its got a retina scanner. Thats slower then using your thumb and you have to swipe just to use it. And even then an engineer at my work when i let him see it took it came back with it unlocked and said might wanna delete anyone who may steal your phone off facebook and make all your images private. But the phone has class. It just feels classy. Like a Benz. It makes you feel good. But you not going to run around showing off stuff because most of that crap is on someone ford focus.
Moto mods have me thinking. Moto mod style back that takes 2 micro sd cards and dare i say it....RAID 0 them?!?! FLIR moto mod. E ink display, M.2 or Msata housing? I cant wait to see what comes of this. It got me excited about the phone. All around this is an amazing device and by far the best phone i have ever owned. If you are thinking about buying it just go use it at the store. After using it for a few min i bought on on the spot its that smooth..even with all of Verizons bloat.
Note about the verizon bumper case. Get a Razer with it. You need to trim a little for the moto mods to work. Little lip on the back just cut it flat "You will see" and all mods work perfect. But if you get the force do not leave the store without a screen protector. That i'll wait a day and do it wont fly. These screens on the force scratch if a mouse farts.
Downsides
No data cable. Better buy a quality usb a to c if you wanna use a data cable or any other chargers. Lenovo really could of gave us a data cable. or a converter. But the phone is great and im just going to be thankful that they did not cut massive corners to keep the profit up and toss in a data cable.

I agree with your comments. I am shocked how much faster the Z force is than my rooted Turbo was, even when I had RR 6.01 on it. Its a great phone, even just looking at pictures on it they just pop with that screen. Again, the screen is much better than my Turbo was. Love the fingerprint reader, still on the fence if front location is better than the rear like the 6P has.

Yeah its the only phone that im able to use out of the box as is that does not feel laggy or slow. Hell even my 6p felt slow. Only thing i did was install nova launcher so i can hide all the verizon crap until i can delete it for good to clean up my app drawer but the phone is amazing.
Im use to the fingerprint reader on the front now. And use to the weight of the battery mod and holy crap i love the battery life. Heavy use 2 days no problem running 5+ hours of sot a day.

More or less my experience. I am going screen-protectorless, though. I don't want this thing any thicker than it is. I already have a couple tiny scratches, but since you can replace the top layer for $39 I figure I'll just do that in a year.
Yeah.. cheap USB C cables are no good. I tried a $2 chinese one from ebay. Didn't work at all. Here's a cheap old USB - USB-C cable that worked fine for me, to charge from your old chargers:

3A charge on USB C, I can confirm it's pretty fast. Just got back from a trip this weekend. From a full charge I got over five hours in the car with Waze running before I was below 20%... unbelievable. Plugged er in and it took an hour or so to recharge completely. with that car charger.
The one downside is that I can't have it plugged in while the phone is in my car holder because the cable is so chunky, it doesn't bend around my dashboard! Looking for a right-angle one, but haven't found yet. OTOH if I can go almost 6 hours and then just plug it in for an hour, who cares..

My wife got a plain Z, while I purchased the Force. I took the Force mainly for the extra battery, my job requires me to log the miles I drive and that app can be a killer in mountain areas. I was using a 6p before, but got tired of most people I call complaining of the echo, and the phone losing GPS constantly.

Well said. Granted, I think ANY phone I upgraded to from my OG Moto X would have felt amazing, but I really wanted to keep Moto Actions/Display, and I'm VERY pleased with my MZF.

I just upgraded from the OG Moto X as well, and the Actions/Display were a big part of my decision on a new phone. Ever pick up your X nowadays? It seems so tiny when I pick it up now!
As for the screen, I find it just fine as it is. I am sure the tempered glass would make it feel that much better, but it doesn't really bother me.
With the fingerprint reader, I just made sure to add my thumb to it, as it feels natural to just place my thumb on it rather than an index finger.

I'm still using my Moto X as a gym music player, and yep, it seems TINY in comparison now. I held off upgrading for so long because I wanted a smaller phone with top-end specs. Realized that wasn't going to happen (save maybe the HTC10), so just bit the bullet. But man, the moto actions are SO much faster on this beast!

How was your battery on the X? Mine was draining insanely fast. Part of what sped up my decision to upgrade.

Battery life was(is) dismal. Bought an new OEM battery off Amazon a couple months ago to stave off the upgrade. It ran GREAT for a few weeks, then almost overnight went right back to being crap again. Probably only lasts about 6 hours now.

I just got mine two days ago, won it through Moto Insiders. Why do you suggest getting a screen protector for it? To protect from scratches?

Does Moto/Lenovo offer that replacement service? Could you link me to it?

Yes, to protect from scratches. The replaceable shattershield doesn't seem to be available yet. Are you able to share about Moto insiders or is it a Fight Club kind of thing? It sounds different than soak testers.

It's like a rep website. I work inside a Best Buy, and the Motorola rep signed me up for the site a while ago. The TUMI is made by Incipio... So it's pretty much the same thing, with a different shell on it.

Maybe someone can help me with this,,,when you use the "okay moto Z" to wake the phone and do something like make a phone call,,,in previous moto phones there was an option to turn on the phone speaker when making calls,,,I cant seem to find that option?

You have to say 'OK Moto z, call someone on speaker phone'. They are using Google commands exclusively for Z so whatever Google supports.

I've had me device 2 days, and all I can say is wow. Major improvement over the V20 I was using. I returned it the day I got this phone. White and gold make it seem more of a premium phone. Super snappy and battery is amazing. Def. A keeper for me.

i also returned my V20 after one day. went back to the S7 Edge for a week then got the Moto Z Force Droid from Best Buy. Love it, putting the S7 Edge on eBay tonight
