Install Xposed Framework and download and install the Moto Teather module.
While your at it, I'd install Gravity Box too. Pretty awesome tweaks.

I have been successful using used the wifi_tether_v3_4-experimental1.apk from https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
change device profile to galaxy nexus (cdma/lte)
check box: wifi-driver reload
check box: enabled routing fix
If you have troubles, its also suggested to...
check box: wifi-driver reload 2
(per -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449534 )
I had been using on 4.4, but its working on 4.4.2 also.

Both of these. You won't find an easier method.

HI,
what do I need to enable WIFI tehter on AT&T without subscription? Is unlock/root enough or do I need a completely different ROM?
Stephan
Root will do
Sent from my XT1058 using Tapatalk 4
Yah can't wait for root this is prob the most useful reason to root in my book. What is everyone's fav free wifi tethering app?
Barnacle is old school, but works well, I usually just use the local built in protocol and just remove the check in

After I rooted my phone I was able to make it work.
1. Root your Moto X

2. Download this app

Just checked the links and they seem to be fine. Search "WiFi Tether for Root Users" in the Play Store.

Hoping someone will tell me if Xposed is actually at home on the new 4.4 root method. I'm seeing different references, but just hoping to become familiar with Xposed. I had a a soft brick trying to use the MotoxPosed module, although I'm working my way out of that mistake on my part. Maybe I applied it wrong, or just looking for any insight.
Yes its compatible. Don't use motoxposed. Only modules updated for 4.4.

Thanks for the confirmation,

I prematurely tried to use motoxposed without looking into it and softbricked, got everything back to good tho. Thx again
GravityBox works flawlessly then?
I was thinking about getting a Moto X due to having an mf3 locked down bootloader. However, it looks like the development is completely dead for this device. Is the bootloader completely locked down for the AT&T version? Just wondering why these forums are so dead. What about rooting with 4.4.2? Thanks

They're dead because the stock software is just that good. There is no real need to hack it up because it's fine as it is.
That's what I figured.. Is there any problems with rooting 4.2.2?

Use RockMyMoto for 4.2.2. Use SlapMyMoto if going to 4.4.
So with the new 4.4.2 slap my Moto works perfectly rooting the phone?

Yes, but he's asking about root. If he's flashing 4.4.2 ROMs, he's already rooted and it's a moot point.
Simply put for people who are wanting a stock rom experience without the bloatware and mods like gravity box.. what direction are people pointing to

Stock rooted with xposed mods and bloat removed

This doesn't seem much different than running stock and removing bloat.

Not sure what you're after? Removing bloat takes 5 minutes, and everybody has different tastes, so better the user play with gravity box and change what they like and don't like.
What is a custom Rom going to do other than that?

if you have a dev edition or unlocked device i would just flash eclipse rom 2.2. it in the development section. it is basically a stock rom with a few add ons that are essential, bloat removed, and all functionality of the moto x you love is still intact.
Update
What are people running these days who are looking for a stock based ROM with goodies. I know there have been updates since I last checked in
Flash them and find out!

Stock with Xposed. Bloat is such a non-issue.
Oh noes! These preinstalled apps are taking up a few MBs. Whatever will I do?
Haha. I actually couldnt agree more.
Another vote for stock+xposed. It's damn near perfect.
Who's running 4.4.4 with exposed? Share thoughts or experiences?
Hi everyone,
I tried some times, but it canot work...
Can help me to use CircleWidget3D(same as droid ultra) for MOTO X?
Verizon Moto X, KK4.4.2

thanks mate, but i think that only can works on KK4.4.4 not 4.4.2
If it doesn't work 4.4.2.... Then it doesn't work. Talk to the developer of the app. No one can help you here. ?
