Solution buy a new phone. That's the truth and I am fairly tech savvy. I got tired of struggling with the phone they left for dead anyway

I am getting the same error on my Bionic. I'm trying House of moto. I hope it works. I'll let you know. Meanwhile check it out if you already haven't. If you have and it didn't work don't tell me as I would then loose all hope.

Just finished... IT WORKED! I got this encryption error due to noob mistakes. I didn't put my rom's and other zips on my sdcard and went and wiped dalvic cache and data in cwm
After doing the full I got stuck at the activations screen and had to bypass activation screen for jb 4.1.2 thanx to...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2104916
Just found the hidden bypass method, I guess it's the corners still. Holding the phone vertically, it's the black space above the W in Welcome, the black space directly under the clock, the black space in bottom right hand corner next to Emergency call, and the black space at the bottom left next to Emergency call.

Some background info would be nice.
yeah I had this same problem when i was on an earlier version of CM experimental build, the problem for me was that it would do what i would call a soft reboot, where the android loading screen would appear and load for a couple seconds then go back to the home screen.
I found this problem out in the browser when i was trying to go back to the prvious pagr it would "reset" I dont know the cause but maybe you should get a Log of the error or when this happens and post it here or send to Cyanogen
Yeah some more background information would help us assit you with the issue. If possible create a signature with information about the ROM you use and any settings.
haha easy, my phone is.....unchanged at all

seriously though no one is going to help you if you don't want to tell us any background info, and if you don't want to, then why make a thread to begin with.

Ok i just got a free g1, im acually on att and all my phones have been winmo htc phones, even done a few custom roms for myself.
Anyways i got this phone thinking #1, i can unlock like any other htc phone fairly east to work with att? Second of all it keeps booting up and i see a triangle and a ! in the middle. When i hold down alt l and try to restore factory settings then reboot it goes to the same screen the error im getting is E: cant open /cache/recovery/command. So idk what to do from here i dont want any custom roms or anything honestly just want to unlock the phone and play with android, guessing something is horribly wrong with the rom on this phone.
Also this probably sounds really dumb but i dont see an SD slot on this phone its a t-mobile branded g1. Im not sure if its suppose to have one or what? The only thing i see is a place to insert the sim card right below the battery. If this phone doesnt have an sd slot am i screwed as far has getting it all fixed up.
Basically i know nothing about android this was a free phone figured it would make a good back up or replacement to my ATT fuze if i ended up like Android better than WinMo. Sorry for all the lame ass questions but im pretty clueless and would just like to get this phone running as quickly as possible so i can start playing with android and learn what im doing.

when you open the keyboard there is a little latch by the green call button that's where the sd card goes

You probably wont like this answer but you posted in the wrong forum. You really need to figure out how to search because the answer you seek is not a simple one. I would first start searching (maybe try Google) as to where the SD slot is located.
http://www.google.com/search?aq=f&q=g1+user+manual
would have saved you some confusion
as an xda member, i'd expect you to post in the right forum... LOL
the sd slot is underneath a cover below the green (send) button.
I find it easier to open the keyboard and pull on the tab on the upper left corner of the chin.
As to the rom, I'd suggest that you go into fastboot and flash a rom from there (boot while holding camera)
to flash in fastboot, use
Code:
flash_image (type) whatever.img

Seriously, he had no clue as to where the sd card was located, do you expect him to have downloaded the SDK and have fastboot setup? I really think he needs to search as it is more complicated than it seems.

seriously....can ANYONE read the rules? or even use a little bit of common sense before posting?
c'mon man, how could this possibly belong in the development section?
Moved as not Android Development.
sorry, if i posted in the wrong forum i googled xda g1 forum and just clicked it.
As for slashing the ting im really trying to avoid that. Like i said i know nothing about android. The first few times i turned the phone on on it worked fine, just told me to insert sim card. Then i got home turned it on to really start messing with it and it just wouldnt boot and has kept giving me that error, i have no idea why i didnt try to flash the thing or anything like that. Ive held down alt l, as per searching the net went to the restore factory defualt option the phone seems to format then when i reset it i get the same error and can only turn the phone off by removing the battery.
Sorry like i said i know these are all idiot questions, sorry about posting in the wrong forum originally, like i said just did a quick google and posted i was on my way out the door. I just want to get the phone working stock and go from there. Phone seemed to be just fine at one point, i didnt do anything to it, i couldnt even get past please insert sim, so idk why im even getting this error at all. Basically the little searching i did do a few days ago made it seem like it had to do with flashing and updating which i definately did not do.
from what I understand in your post you only "half setup" your phone
( got as far as being asked for sim )
try pressing ALT+w when at the " triangle ! "
this should do a factory data reset, and next time you boot it will set up your phone from the begining

Yeah I would want to avoid that too lmao
Thank you for the help but ive alread tried alt w and going back to defualts with alt l. Everytime the thing reboots after reseting defualts it goes back to that triangle screen. and when i press alt l it shows the error i mentioned before..
try this
http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/Unbrick
The "triangle screen" is the recovery mode. That error about recovery/command always shows up, it's no big deal.
Are you holding any buttons while you boot? Holding home while turning the phone on gets you to recovery (your triangle screen), holding camera gets you to fastboot. You just want to boot normally.
If the G1 isn't rooted, you won't be able to get past the initial setup screen unless you've got a T-Mobile sim in it. Once you get to the sim error, you've made progress from what you've said here though. If you can get back to that, search around. I seem to recall that some people here run their G1 without a sim, so perhaps you can find out how they did it.
Sup guys

I am glad you fixed your phone and I'm glad that you are so kind. After spending some time on the Internet I am always prepared to be hated. I am pleasantly surprised
And yes, it is currently the greatest android forum, so hard to miss it
Somehow my toddler managed to use the power and volume keys to in just the right order to factory reset my Droid Turbo XT1254 running android 4.4.4. I've already spoken with Verizon and Motorola and their answer is you should have used our security risk laden Clouds. We can't and or won't help you.
When I realized what had happened I made sure not to even set up the phone or install anything. I also put the phone in airplane mode to avoid/minimize any random downloads or writing.
Question 1:
After trying 3 pieces of recovery software and 8+hours of research I have learned that after android 4.2.* that when they removed the USB Mass Transfer option that normal recovery software will not help anyone with a Droid Turbo unless the phone is rooted. Is this correct?
Question 2:
IF my only option is to root the phone (I have never done this but my husband has), given that I have made sure not to write anything to phone since reset, what are my chances of recovering my pictures? Some or all?
Question 3:
Are there ways to "minimally root" a phone so as to maximize recovery of my pictures?
I'd say I'm half a techie with a background in data analysis and many year working with large databases on linux systems (though its been ten years) so I'm just dangerous enough to maybe save my data with some help. *sigh*
Thanks in advance,
Bronwyn
PS Ive installed the ADB drivers and am trying to figure out where to go from there.
i think you are pretty much ****ed, i dont think you can recover anything after a wipe from recovery even if you root to try to recovery something, chances are that will be corrupt or you'll get less than 10% of data. im sorry.
Thank you for taking the time to reply and your kindness. *sigh* Yes, all my reading has lead me to the same conclusion.

Thats why u don't let kids play with expensive things
Did you try http://www.jihosoft.com/recover-data/recover-data-after-factory-reset.html btw you didn't backup to your Google account?
That's why it has a super case on it. That's why I had it locked. But she is 2.5 and pulled it out of Mommy's purse. She is a fast little button pusher. I had no idea it was sooooo easy to factory reset a phone. When I read how to do it, Motorola lost me as a customer. You only have to hold the 2 buttons down for 3 seconds and hit two buttons two more times. Poor engineering for the real world.

The iCult is no better. It seems like we have to drink the Kool-Aid sooner or later... we just have to decide on the flavor, and Apple isn't my personal choice.
(Yes, Mickeysoft is trying to get back into the game with Windows 10 for phones, but they're no better, and BlackBerry still seems to be hovering on the brink of extinction, but they aren't major players right now.)
Hi everyone,
I dropped my phone (SM-W910N8, Vidéotron, Canada; at the time, stock 5.0.1, only rooted with TWRP) from a height of about 1 foot. It fell on the floor face first. As I picked it up, everything seemed normal. After some time, I realized that, while the phone worked, I was no longer connected to a network, so I went into the mobile network settings where it told me my SIM card was no longer detected.
I decided to restart the phone. That's when the bootloop started.
I went into TWRP, that worked great.
I made a backup and wiped cache, still bootloop. Tried a factory reset, still bootlooping. I tried restoring to a very early backup I had which led to yet another bootloop.
I tried copying a custom ROM from my PC while in TWRP, and have errors copying any files. (tried again after updating TWRP to the most recent version)
I tried reinstalling a fresh copy of Android 5.1.1. using TLS-N910W8VLU1COI4-20151002161810.zip through Odin, and it got to "Android is updating (...)" before bootlooping.
Now I installed a fresh copy of Android 6.0.1. using VTR-N910W8VLU1DPE2-20160531140250.zip through Odin, it got through "Android is updating (...)", can use Android for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, but the phone still bootloops.
Does anyone have any insight to fix this problem?
Thank you!

Sounds like a loose connector. Not really an easy fix for that :/ But I could be wrong.
Is your phone under warranty still? And if not . How tech savvy are you? I had two note 3s that I use to tear down and it's not that difficult if you are careful. Just find a guide on YouTube and take take the back off. All the connectors should be right there. Just detach and reattach each one and see if that helps

I'm pretty tech savvy, I'm not afraid to tear it down, I've done it before to replace a screen on another model smartphone (SGS4, I believe?). I bought a LG/Google Nexus 5x (returning to my nexus roots) and love it, its my daily for now. That means I can toy around with my Note 4.
Thanks a lot for your insight, will post back with results after I try tearing it down.
