[Q] HELP !! bricked HTC ONE - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
im new to all this so im know im probably going to ask whats already been asked previously
ive been reading through thread after thread and cant find a fix
i have a HTC ONE from Three Ireland Network
i had rooted my HTC one so my car could download its phonebook properly
i had team win recovery project installed
last night Three Ireland released the 4.4 Update but it failed
i didnt realise that the carrier OTA updates dont work
so i found a ROM on here that i thought would work
OTA_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_H3G_UK_4.20.771.17-3.62.771.3_release_3536491kghgv33dtz4m18n
i used the team win recovery to flash it and now my phone wont boot
i can get into the boot loader but im stuck in a loop
i dont seem to have team win anymore so get it and try another rom
i had originally used odin3 to get team win on
i have the device in fastboot usb but the pc wont see the phone to be able to use the original odin method
so right now im screwed, i dont know how to fix
please help!

First off.. Odin is used for Samsung Firmware only..Do not use on a HTC One or any other make of phone..
Have you got the drivers for HTC..if not, get them from here..http://www.htc.com/www/software/htc-sync-manager/
If you can access the bootloader and fastboot.. Post a fastboot getvar all minus your serial no and imei no.

thanks for getting back to me!
Sweating here!!!
ive attached a screenshot that should have all that info for you

Why version - main line is empty?

You now appear to have no OS..
can you still get into recovery
Here is a nandroid backup using twrp
http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/m7-twrp-nandroid-backup-cid-h3g__001-2-24-771-3-rar/
make sure you are using twrp 2.6.3.3
if not here is the link-- http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
check the MD5sum is correct before flashing has it sometimes doesnt play nice with the downloads
You can download the MD5 Checker from here http://getmd5checker.com/
PS this is only if your bootloader is unlocked

thanks so much for all this
its downloading now
there is a noob guide to running all this?
once bitten and all that
dont want to make it any worse!

Read te FAQ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228274
first rename the twrp recovery to recovery
then enter the bootloader
connect to pc and open up a CMD window where your adb and fastboot commands are," shift and left mouse to open up CMD "
type fastboot devices. if a random serial no is returned your ok
put your recovery into the adb/fastboot folder and
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
once done
fastboot erase cache
reboot into bootloader and choose recovery
To restore the Nandroid backup follow these instructions at the top of the page http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/stock-nandroid-downloads/
Good luck

Hi,
thanks for that
all appears to be going through ok
so this part was simple to do and looks ok
type fastboot devices. if a random serial no is returned your ok
put your recovery into the adb/fastboot folder and
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
once done
fastboot erase cache
reboot into bootloader and choose recovery
but nothing has changed
when i select recovery on the phone, it still goes back to the bootloader
ive attached a screenshot of the DOS Commands to make sure im following what your saying
(i know im being a pain!)

UNLOCKED bootloader

If you still have the OTA file you can extract from it the firmware.zip file and flash it after RELOCKING your bootloader.
You will get your OS back for starters and then you can proceed again with custom firmware flashing and Rom flashing.

Hi there, sorry couldnt help last night, but i just read the thread in more detail which recovery are you trying to flash? Link please
The filesize doesn't look right to me!! (Post #8, sending 8866KB)
Please check MD5 on the download, to confirm it's not a corrupt download. If you're downloading from TWRP site, it doesn't play nice with download managers/some browsers, and you end up with a bad download.
Also, please use copy/paste for the command prompt outputs, reading screenshots is much harder. thanks

2.6.3.3: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
or 2.6.3.4: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7ul

[Q] Clockwork Mod to 4EXT recovery

Hey guys,
Before I get flame at, let me point out a few things
1.) I've been searching throughout the forum in and out to find the answer to my question but I have failed so.
2.) I'm using a custom firmware by nikhil007mmus Jelly Bean 4.1 on my HTC Incredible S
3.) Recently I was curious about new firmware from PACman. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2105869
Hence my question is,
I'm using the original ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0, and I found out PACman firmware need to be flash using 4EXT recovery.
I've tried to install 4EXT Recovery, followed ALL the steps provided by alot of people, but everytime after finished installing all the settings and configuration, when I boot up my recovery it is still on ClockworkMod
Why is this so? What did I do wrong? D:
In need of serious guidance or help here

You need to have adb and fastboot installed in your computer.. if you are using windows you need the htc usb drivers as well
are you on windows?
Just install the 4EXT recovery app from the play store. Follow the steps and it will flash it for you.
Is your device unlocked?
Wow, this is some crazy in-depth **** goin' on!
I am on windows, mind to lay down all the things I need and the steps to follow?
I will read it tomorrow morning, needs to sleep now, it's past midnight here already lol
thanks again!
of course it is if you have already installed custom rom...how stupid of me
---------- Post added at 07:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:32 PM ----------
Download the recovery zip file.
extract the recovery.img file and place it in C:\android-sdk\platform-tools\recovery.img
Open up command prompt and type:
cd \android-sdk\platform-tools
Now, make sure it detects your android:
fastboot devices
You'll see a line with a serial number, you're good to go (remember you need to be in fastboot mode while you do all of this, Vol. Up + Power while off)
Now, just flash the recovery.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Would this work on the inspire 4g. IV tried flashing it from the app didn't work so now I'm here using the search button. Any suggestions?

Did the 4EXT app automatically detect the device properly? Is the recovery compatible with your device?
Yes it detected my phone and yes its compatible cuz the custom Rom I'm running supposedly had it built in but it's still cwm...... Android revolution hd 7.3

Thanks for the reply again lol,
and yeah I've flashed it to a custom rom lol.
By downloading recovery zip file you mean going into 4EXT website and download it down?
Once I extract it out, I need to put inside my phone's SD card right? I'm pretty lost at this part now.
I got how you mean by doing all this in the fastboot mode (The white screen with lines of words and THREE androids below the screen, correct?)
And I'm not sure about flashing the recovery.img, oh god..

In the bootloader go fastboot USB, I think you need debugging on but not certain. Then your ready to type command.
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium
Connect your phone to your computer via usb (Make sure usb debugging is checked on the phone)
Open a command prompt window
type the following
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
Oh okay sweet, so I still need to go to 4EXT to download the file first before proceeding right?
No need am attaching the latest 4EXT TOUCH Recovery Zip file
Extract and follow instructions above.
Also dont forget to check the md5 of the .img file. You brick your device if you flash a corrupt recovery
If it works click "Thanks"
Please report if it works and if it does..please edit the title of your thread and added a '[Solved]' to it in the begining
Okay thanks alot! I will try it along the week, I'm kinda busy with daily work schedule recently,
Will update once I try it!
Thanks alot!

These steps are manual steps on how to do them and if u just want 4EXT Recovery, then you can download the 4EXT Recovery App. The app will download the proper files as well as flash the recovery once the download is finished.

CWM trouble

Hi Guys,
A newbie here and of course I'm in trouble. HTC One International version.
Few weeks ago I unlocked the bootloader by HTC One Toolkit 1.9.3 and HTCDEV unlock token.
Installed CWM Mod Tuuch recovery.
Now I receive the E: Can't mount error with CWM...hence CWM won't also root the phone so it's Unlocked but unrooted.
Anyway, yesterday came the 4.3 OTA update...I downloaded and automatically tried to install it. It reboots to CWM and then of course get's stuck into CWM as it can't mount SD or anything...
Also for a strange reason whenever I go to Fastboot Windows 8 won't recognize the USB device...tried installin the HTC drivers, installed and uninstalled and installed again HTC Sync manager but still nothing...tried different USB cables, different USB ports..still nothing
What should I do to get CWM working and install the OTA?
The phone does boot to 4.2.2. ROM and works fine but as the OTA is downloaded is whines every now and then that I should install the update which I can't do..
Download an up-to-date recovery.img from the cwm thread and flash it via fastboot. There are several tutorials out there how to do that. Hope it will help

That's the question I keep asking myself....
Actually I thought of trying custom ROM. But then as the CWM had errord I had not the time to fiddle with that. So I thought that when I have time I'll deal with that.. Then came the update and surely I wanted to try the new 4.3 and Sense....
I guess now I need to have the time to deal with this..

Select 'Recovery' to boot into it.
Choose 'Mount' and check 'System'
Now try adb shell to check, if you have access to your Phone. If you have so, download a ROM, for example AICP, which I prefer, and copy it to your sd with this commad:
Code:
adb push C:\Path\to\you\rom.zip /sdcard/rom.zip
If this completes successfull go to the homescreen of twrp -> Install and choose this zip file.
For AICP you have to flash GApps after you flashed the ROM. I'll provide you the links:
AICP: http://tunsd.de/downloads/ICJ/AICP/m7ul/aicp_m7ul_jb-mr2_unofficial_2013-10-19.zip
GAPPS: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
Push both zips to your sdcard as I described above and flash them in the priority I put the links..
Sorry for my bad english, Im at work.. -.-"

[Q] HTC One Brick?

Hi guys. Was just trying to install a 4.4 custom rom on my HTC One using CWM. I got into rrecovery mode and started trying to install the rom but it came up with an error saying it had aborted. I realised I hadn't made a backup so I thought I best do it in case anything goes wrong. I tried doing that and rebooting the phone. Now the HTC logo flashes on screen before flashing off and then the phone puts me back in recovery. Have I bricked this phone? If anyone can help me I can answer any more necessary questions.

You need TWRP 2.6.3.3 (or later) for 4.4 roms, also if you are using a GPE rom, then you need to be s-off.
Download from here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7 don't use a download manager, it will fail; download normally and check MD5 to make sure file is not corrupt,
go to bootloader/FASTBOOT USB, and flash it:
fastboot flash openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
and install the ROM again.

wherever you put it, didnt you unlock your phone using "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin"? that would be the folder (often referred to the adb sdk)

Sorry I'm just panicking an awful lot. I'm a bit calmer now though so I'll crack on. I've got TWRP back up and I've tried to install the ROM but it keeps saying failed. Is therre any way to make my phone available to transfer to so I can try a different ROM?
EDIT: It seems I did make a backup with TWRP, I'm assuming that wouldn't show up on CWM? That seems to be working so I'll count myself lucky. I would very much like to get stock android 4.4 though so do you know of any detailed guides for getting that with TWRP on HTC one?
By the way THANK YOU SO MUCH for everything. I completely panicked and I would never have figured any of this out without your help. Thank you.

Unfortunately, TWRP and CWM backups aren't interchangeable but you can always flash back the proper recovery for the backup, and restore.

No OS on phone, can't install a rom

I am hoping someone can help with this, my son completely wiped his Google Edition HTC One. When I asked him what he did he stated that he flashed TWRP and did a full wipe checking all of the boxes under the advanced tab. Then when he tried to flash Cyanogenmod 10.2 it keeps failing. I asked him why he did this and he said his friend told him how cool Cyanogenmod is so naturally he want it to! (By the way my son is 13).
I know very little about this phone but I would like to get the phone back to the way it was before he messed with it as it cost me $650 to buy it. I started reading about RUU files but from what I can tell the RUU will not work with S-ON. And I can't seem to flash any ROM as it keeps failing. Any suggestions would be a big help!
Don't worry this is fixable
First relock your bootloader
Then download a RUU.zip for GPe
boot into fastboot
and type this command (in your pc of course with adb) fastboot oem rebootRUU
A silver htc logo should show
copy the RUU you downloaded to your adb folder and rename to ruu.zip
and type this command fastboot flash zip ruu.zip
this command should be typed twice (ignore the error that shows up)
after the second time it's done
type fastboot reboot
should turn right up
Good luck
Then make him use a flip phone for a week as punishment lol
I had the same. In my case I started ruu for another version (international), of course ruu failed to install but it did fix partitions, after that I was able to sideload rom. I will try to find my topic and provide You with my solution.
This is my BLS/ALS with HTC One, patient is alive and well now, only camera has pink tint...

Try with CWM instead of TWRP... and finally pass some information about progress.

Will the ruu method work if the phone is S-ON? All of the XDA posts I read state that you need to be S-OFF?
Give it a shot the phone is already bricked what you got to lose

Any idea where to download the RUU? The build number that was on the phone before all this started was KRT16S.H5 release-keys

The good news are that the phone isn't bricked, imho. The bad ones are that you will have to play with ROMs recoveries and RUU's a bit in order to have a working phone back. First of all I would focus to succeed in flashing a ROM in order to boot your phone. Googling I found a user with your same error showed in the pic that solved the issue "checking the signature box then flash a ROM where he got the error then unchecked the same signature box and reflash with success". If this process doesn't work for you, I suggest to flash a different recovery such as CWM and try to flash the ROM through it. Anyway you'll need an unlocked bootloader for the entire process. Let me know if you succeed.

when your son was flashing CM mod was he using the correct version? I don't recall but I tried flashing my ATT HTC one but I am running a WWE firmware so that made me have to flash the GSM version of CM mod. http://www.cmxlog.com/11/m7ul/ Try downloading the latest zip file there and than try mounting to his phone with the USB mount or if you have a USB OTG you can install it from a USB. It shouldn't matter if your S-ON or S-OFF for installing some roms it just helps you avoid taking extra steps to get the ROM to install.
When your flashing with TWRP make sure to do a advanced wipe and check everything that is on there. After you do a advanced wipe do a regular factory reset. I'm hoping that the new CM11 rom will flash for his phone. You can also use ADB sideload to send the zip files over to your phone if you cannot mount the phone. What ADB sideload does is open up a connection from your phones USB and lets you transfer zips over onto the internal SD card basically in DOS command.
I want to thank everyone for there guidance in this. After googling for a couple of days and a few failed attempts with the RUU command I was finally able to restore the phone. I was able to flash a nandroid backup using TWRp from another google edition HTC which brought the phone back to life. Then I flashed a stock recovery and OTA's became available to the phone. The once dead HTC is now back up and running stock 4.4 android. The only issue I with the phone now is that there is a popping sound after a notification comes in that I can't get rid of... Anyone have any ideas?

The popping noises seem to come after I updated to kit Kat I don't know but a lot of people might have that issue too.

Anybody?? Pleasee help.................
You have lost your recovery for some reason. Just reflash the latest TWRP from here
Shut off your device. http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/m7wls/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.1.0-m7wls.img
Copy the file to your ADB folder on you PC. Plug the USB in.
Press and hold volume down and then press power. Keep holding volume down until a menu shows on your screen.
Use the volume rocker to select fastboot and press power to select fastboot.
Plug the device into your computer.
If you have the right drivers installed your phone screen will now say: FASTBOOT USB
Using a command prompt, type:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Your device will reboot. Use the volume rocker to select recovery and press power. You will now boot TWRP.

Here is the link to mini ADB (same as ADB) https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1S0LCuXCnnmSWh6NGJmSE1BUWc/edit?usp=sharing
Uninstall all the HTC stuff from you PC and install only this driver http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2155881&d=1375297569
Go to the path where you installed the Mini ADB and from there open command prompt.
Copy the desired recovery to this folder
Put your phone in FASTBOOT mode Finally insert this command in command prompt:
fastboot flash recovery ---.img
--- stands for the name of the file you choose)

How can I know that if you don't? Maybe you didn't backup at all or you just deleted it? You can sideload a ROM if you don't have one on your sd card.
And next time search and read before sending pm's, like everyone else has done. And at least use that thanks button, it's the minimum sign of appreciation towards smb who is helping you

I did a backup. I think I recovered the wrong .img file so I wasnt able to see my backup file. Anyways. I went to cwm site and downloaded HTC One sprint recovery file and flashed it and Finally got the BACKUP file!
I've restored the backup and everything was working fine but i noticed that I lost my sim unlock and my phone is rebooting in every 1-2 mins.
Please accept my sincere apologies for PM'ing you. I'll make sure I dont do that again and I've thanked all your posts. You are really a superstar sir. Hats off to your advice and posts.
Sir, Kindly help me with resolving this issue. My phone is rebooting every 1-2 mins.. Any possible solutions for it?
You are the only HOPE for me :angel:

I think the reason you are rebooting is because you flashed the wrong version of CWM.
I would backup anything important to your pc then run an RUU

Should I again flash the badboyz rom?
I remember while I recovered twrp recovery I did some kind of format/wipe. I guess because of that I lost my simunlock and possibly deleted something which is making it to do so.
Should I download badboyz rom again and flash it?

NO, follow BigDaddys advice and RUU back to stock. Then work your way back to other ROM choices, most likely after flashing a new and appropriate recovery.

Yes first try reflashing the ROM after full wipe. You shouldn't loose your SIM unlock no matter what you do so smth is messed maybe with your partitions
If it doesn't work you should run the ruu. It'll brink you to stock and would have to unlock bootloader, root, custom recovery, etc.

I guess I've loosed it as I bought the phone from ebay and it came unlocked for sure but when I restored the backup I saw no signal bars on my phone,
Anyways, I'm again downloading a fresh copy of the rom and will re-install it. I dont want to do RUU and and they again everything from scratch as that would be toooo time consuming.
Hope reflashing works. I'll keep this thread updated.
Tho, While restoring I found a error that .android_secure.img is not found.
I guess that is something I messed?
UPDATE:
I did a full wipe and re-installed the Bad Boyz Rom.
Now, I'm getting to the unlock screen.
When I scroll the lock screen the phone is taking me to HTC screen and then rebooting and I'm unable to do anything...
The phone is still restarting like before.

Try another ROM, maybe it's a bad download. Also try clearing sd card first(do a backup on your pc first) and don't forget to full wipe. I'd use the ruu as last resort
