I unlocked my xperia Z c6606 from T-mobile and I am trying to pick up LTE on at&t network...I am using the following APN settings:
Name: att
APN: pta
MMSC: (I'm new and I cannot post a link...)
MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port:80
MCC:310
MNC:410
APN type:default,fota,mas,supl,hipri,mms
APN prtocal:IPv4/IPv4
Bearer: none
But right now I can only get hspa+ but not LTE...I wiki'ed a little and it seems that Tmobile's LTE is band 4 and at&t has both band 4 and 17 LTE. Does this mean theoretically I should be able to get LTE with this phone (on Sony website it says that this phone has LTE band 4 only) on att?
Please help...Thanks!!

Yes data roaming on...and network mode set to "LTE(preferred)/WCDMA/GSM"...My friend who lives right next to my apartment has the same plan and has been using LTE on his iphone...so it should not be the problem of coverage or things like that....
Depending on the area and the ROM seeing HSPA+ is your 4G/LTE. On TMoble with my C6606 and a custom ROM I would see HSPA+ instead of 4G like the phone says on the stock ROM. To my knowledge the stock ROM does not say LTE but only 4G up by the battery info.
How are your speeds? I wouldnt rely on the little label telling you if you have LTE connected or not.
in settings>about phone>ststus
it'll tell you if you are connected to lte or not.
att mostly uses band 17 for lte, in some places it uses band 4. so if you are luck you will get lte, mostlikely not.

When I was using T-mobile service on this phone, the download speed was almost 30 Mbps, now it's like ~3 Mbps...even HSPA+ should be at least >5 Mbps?

Anybody figured this out? I have a C6606 model, and this should work with LTE. Unlocked from T-mobile. Network shows only HSPA+ not LTE. Any suggestion?
Anybody is on this website? Nobody answers anymore...
Did anyone ever figure out how to get lte to work?

If anyone knows how to fix this I will call you god!!
I'm not entirely sure whether or not Rogers supports fast dormancy on their network, but it's a feature which is enabled on the Note by default. Down here in the states, people have been seeing significant network performance improvements by disabling this feature, as AT&T does not support it anyway.
You can disable fast dormancy by entering *#*#9900#*#* from your dialer and make sure the fast dormancy option is set to "Disabled"
Let me know if that works!
P.S. What type of connection are you picking up when you're getting those speeds btw? EDGE (E), UMTS (3G), HSPA+ (H, or H+)?
Thanks Jade but when I punched in *#*#9900#*#* it didn't do anything.. later I found that it is *#9900# for Galaxy note..
Once I got into this Sysdump menu I couldn't see fast dormancy option.. please see the screen shot.
I don't know where this fast dormancy menu is hidden for Galaxy note...
And you may also find from the screen shot it says "G" for the data signal..
Your sysdump seems weird... *#*#9900#*#* has worked for everyone else here that I've recommended about the fast dormancy issue.
The other thing is that the "G" in your signal indicates that you're only connecting at GPRS speed, which is in fact slower than dial-up. Perhaps there's a different APN for 3G/HSPA?
Another thought just came to mind as well... You said you got your Note from Korea right? Is there a Qualcomm sticker anywhere on your device? From what I understand, the Note available in Korea is a totally different device from a hardware perspective. It uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset instead of Samsung's own Exynos for the LTE functionality. It may even be possible that the Korean version doesn't even support 3G frequencies outside what's used over there... That being the case, ouch dude, that sucks...
I've included a pic from my device for what the menu should look like after inputting *#*#9900#*#*
P.S. Just realized that you made no mention of Korea, so I have no idea where that came from lol!

He says in the first line of his post that he bought it in Korea. I think you may be right - the Korean version is the LTE/Snapdragon version. It may not be quad-band UMTS/HSPA capable.
This story seems to imply that the Korean version does not have all international 3G bands:
http://asia.cnet.com/blogs/lte-samsung-galaxy-note-isnt-welcome-in-korea-62212571.htm
Edit: reading the story again, it seems to say that 3G is locked out in the firmware on the Korean Note.
I just purchased one in London and the fast dormancy is disabled by default; will be using on ROGERS at YVR before I move to Calgary on the 2nd January. I will post if I get the "normal" speeds.
Update: works great on ROGERS

I have found what the problem is... Korean Galaxy note supports WCDMA, GSM, and LTE
Unfortunately there is no WCDMA carrier in Canada so I had to go with Rogers.
Korean Galaxy note does supports GSM but preset to use only 900Mhz, 1800Mhz, and 1900Mhz. Rogers uses 850Mhz (for 3G) and 1900Mhz (for 2G)... Since my Note does not have 850Mhz option it automatically uses 1900Mhz which is 2G frequency this was why I can only have 40kbps speed for the data..
I could go with LTE but Rogers uses 700Mhz frequency and my device is set to 1800Mhz for LTE (because Korean carrier uses 1800Mhz for LTE)
My only hope is to find out how to change (if there is any way) this frequency setting softwarecally(not even a word but hope you understand what I mean) say... 900Mhz to 850Mhz without any hardware change
Does anyone know how to do that??

Suggestion: Get rid of the Korean/LTE Note. Buy the international/HSPA+ Note instead. Enjoy!
Sorry if that seems curt, but honestly, the problem you are trying to fix here with the LTE Note is more trouble than it's worth, especially when the problem is already solved in the other version of the device. No offence, but you really ought to buy equipment which is most compatible for the area(s) you plan to spend most of your time. So, if you spend the majority of your time in Korea, then I guess stick with what you've got, and just use WiFi (when you can) while in Canada. However, if you just picked up this device while you were visiting Korea or something, and Canada is your home country, then yeah, I'd get rid of that Korean LTE version quicker than a hot potato. Plus the international Note should work just fine back in Korea anyway, albeit minus LTE, but who cares? As far as I know, there's no unlimited data for LTE in Korea anyway, so what's the point in having all that extra speed when all it really means is that you're only going to crash into a wall that much faster?
Good luck!
no wcdma carrier in Canada?
I thought those new mobile companies used wcdma. Wind mobile and mobilicity - they should be able to work with the korean note, shouldn't they?
does the korean note have wcdma in 1700 and 2100 bands? that's what Wind uses.
I'm only getting EDGE connection /speeds from t-mobile. However according to a press release a couple months back, my area was supported (goleta/Santa Barbara area) for HSPA+). How can I enable this network or why am I only getting edge? I am using a Criskelo rom.
Correct me if I am wrong but international note can ONLY be used at edge with US T-Mobile. The note doesn't have the radios for the Baseband of T-Mobile frequencies. As I have read in the forums in the past only at at&t can connect the note for 3g, not 100% sure for the last.

if you are on GSM network .. switch to WCDMA only network in your network settings
3G/4G of T-Mobile USA uses a relatively rare frequency 1700/2100 UMTS Band IV (aka AWS). The Note can't support it. You choice is either stick at the EDGE speed or switch to AT&T(or its MVNO).
TMOUS is starting to refarm their 3G/4G frequency to which the Note will support. But I think it might takes years to get the work done.

tmous is rolling out 1900 frequencies so it will be able to get 3g and possibly 4g depending on where you are... currently there are members on here from the northwest that have confirmed this working...
as for the question at hand i would contact tmo and ask if the towers are running and where in your area to make sure... the auto gsm/wcdma mode should work fine because if you leave the area where there is 1900 and are on wcdma only you will get no svc...
Well here's the press release: newsroom.t-mobile.com/articles/new-4g-markets-nov2011
Hmm...I'm a total noob at this stuff and guess I was assuming I was gonna get HSPA+ due to it listing 1900 mhz in Santa Barbara on the Wirelessadvisor website in a zipcode search.
Am I wrong to assume that if the network is 1900 mhz band? Changing the gsm/wcdma didn't do anything. Guess I should contact t-mobile to make sure?

I'm on Rogers, which is the same service and I get 4G using ltemobile.apn. I'm more than happy with this and have been getting 38 mbit on speedtest.
I've not seen the LTE icon tho, and either I cannot get it in this area (which seems unlikely as I am in downtown Vancouver) or this phone will not do LTE as it does not have the 700 band.

I see a 4G icon and have not seen the LTE icon. I've read the manual and it mentions a LTE icon but not a 4G icon, but that's what I have. For all I know I am actually getting LTE.
I had thought that LTE was even faster then this, especially in major cities near antennas.
But from what I have read a lot of LTE users do not even get the speeds I am seeing so I am quite pleased with this phone's data connection as it is.
I am on TELUS and when i originally got the phone it only showed 4G. I have however updated to 534 and it now shows LTE. Hope that helps?

I'm on 534 now. Can I ask what sort of speeds you are getting?
LTE coverage on the Z1 is more spotty though compared to my previous Note 2. Also Telus lacks access to 2600mhz LTE from Bell/Rogers which offers higher speeds.
hey guys, if you are getting anything above 30mbps/download.. especially member 30 Seconds who is getting 48mbps, that's definitely LTE. I just wanted to confirm that you DONT need the 700Mhz to be on LTE. I called Fido on separate occasions due an initial 'not-so-bright' rep who take ages to answer my question and eventually needed to ask her co-worker for help (I don't know how they get hired.. lol) and both Fido employees have stated that ONLY 2100 and 2600 Mhz is needed for LTE. I questioned if support for 700Mhz is needed and they said no. I still am not able to test out my Z1 yet which is still in the box so hopefully somebody can come forward and verify that they see their C6903 showing the LTE symbol on Fido or Rogers.
The frequencies are used differently.
High frequency in urban areas for throughput. Low frequency for less dense areas, more range and penetration. So, what you"need" depends on where you are basically.

Hi guys I have a question. I'm seeing other Sony Xperia Z devices with LTE as shown in the Network Mode but mine is only 4G. By the way my device is C6603 and it shows [WCDMA only, GSM only, WCDMA (preferred)/GSM and 4G (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM] but I saw other device LTE (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM instead of 4G (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM. I'm worried that I have a non-LTE device. Is there anything wrong in my device? Thank you in advance!

LTE and 4G are basically the same as far as your handset is concerned.
Some phone carriers call it 4G, some call it LTE. There;s nothing wrong with your handset!

Open up cscfeature.xml or others.xml & look for this line:
Code:
<CscFeature_SystemUI_ConfigOpBrandingForIndicatorIcon>LTE</CscFeature_SystemUI_ConfigOpBrandingForIndicatorIcon>
For 4G/LTE icon, change to "VWZ, ATT, or TMB". Save & reboot. Try each one & see which you like as these carriers each use different styles.
If you want it to be LTE & LTE+ (LTE+ is when CA is active) only when connected to LTE & H when connected to HSPA+, change the line above to "LTE".
To add, just tried SPR..... only shows a small LTE hovering over the signal bars. Most international CSCs just show 4G. (This line does not actually change your active CSC)
Most international devices show 4G , in the USA since they like big words as it looks better , they depict 4G LTE on the icon.
A bit like some of the old Mercedes models, the USA numbers were bigger but engine size and specs was the same as the international ones.

That's one way of looking at it but in the US I think it has more to do with marketing. There was a big race to push out "4G" in the US. Tmobile first started calling HSPA+ 4G in the race against Verizon's "4G" network.
Then when LTE came out which techincally could not be called 5G, US carriers started using 4G/LTE for LTE & 4G for HSPA/+ cause it looks better/faster.
I'm using Tmobile CSC on my N950F but I changed the Tmobile 4G/LTE icon to LTE. So now when I'm connected to LTE it shows "LTE, "LTE+" when CA is active, & "H" when connected to HSPA+. Tmobile does not show a different icon to indicate when CA is active.

Technically speaking isn't hspa+ 3G in other countries and LTE, 4G in other countries?
The marketing aspect makes sense due to the USA national networks , after all if Verizon was advertising super duper 4G LTE ( 4G) , T Mobile and others had to use the same LTE verbiage else customers would think 4G was less than 4G LTE. A bit like why some post on here with their international devices wanting the status bar to show LTE I guess LOL.
