Hi All, I just bought a SIM unlocked Vivid, still on his way to me tough, and I pretend to upgrade to ICS as soon as I receive it. So I went ahead on my investigation, and after spending several hours trying to understand how the ICS upgrade works, and how to do it without bricking or boot-looping it. I read thoroughly the SUPERGUIDE thread, saw some videos, and read HTC Vivid's support page (sorry I'm not allowed to post any link yet), but still I'm quite confused or unsure on the best process to follow. Sincerely after reading and reading, and searching many threads I got more confused. Although I've got a technology background, I'm completely new to this flashing-ROM-upgrading world.
My question is simple, I pretend to use the HTC Vivid page's instructions to perform the upgrade manually using the RUU ICS (444 MB) provided there (since I don't have any access to the AT&T network), and use "HTC SYNC 3.0.5617 FOR HTC VIVID™ (AT&T)" installed on my PC to flash the phone.
Assuming that the phone comes with the stock Gingerbread ROM and with the bootloader locked, since it's only SIM unlocked. If I understood correctly SIM unlocking has no relation with bootloader unlocking.
Can someone validate if I'm right? Or if not point me to the right direction?
Once you unlock your bootloader and achieve S-Off you should be able to upgrade regardless of what carrier your are or aren't using.
What carrier are you using ?

I'm currently outside the States, in Costa Rica, the carriers we have down here are a state owned, Movistar (Spaniard company) and Claro (Mexican company). None have the ICS upgrade available, not even HTC phones.
Does your answer mean that if the phone is SIM unlocked them the bootloader is unlocked too?
Thanks.
Franz
No, you will also need to unlock you bootloader using the HTCdev site and then achieve S-Off before you upgrade to ICS.
Check out the superuser guide for help with these two steps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416836
If this helped you please hit the Thanks button.
Just update your phone with RUU and then unlock the bootloader with the All in one Tool or the instructions in HTC Dev.
Before that you may decide install a custom rom with the recommended kernel, perm root, s-off etc.
Remember you have to use RUU with a locked or relocked bootloader.
This are the steps I followed for upgrading to ICS
Thanks to Archector and Esloan, both advices were very useful.
Just for the record, this is what I did for my succesful ICS upgrade:
I read, read, and read to clearly understand what Bootloader, S-Off / S-On, Recovery, Stock ROM, etc. is all about. This forum will be a great place to do this. The following steps shouldn't taken as final word, you should be able to understand if you can continue when some steps differ a bit.
2 Once clear on all these concepts, and clear on what I wanted to do, I downloaded the ICS stock ROM named as 'htc_vivid_att_RUU_3.26.502.56_US.exe' and downloaded the HTC Sync Software into my computer (both from HTC's support page).
Installed the HTC Sync Software. This software installs all proper drives needed to communicte the PC with the phone. BTW I'm using Win 7.
On the phone disabled the 'Fastboot' option. Went to Settings > Power > Un-tick the 'Fastboot' checkbox. Enabled USB Debugging at Settings > Applications > USB Debugging. Then switched off the phone and waited 5 seconds (aprox.) after screen went off. Be sure you have enough battery charge and the phone is NOT connected to the PC.
Now turned on the phone into the 'Bootloader' mode (hold the Volume_DOWN button and while holding it press the Power button until the Bootloader screen shows). If you don't know what I'm talking about then you'll need to read much more and widen your understanding on these concepts.
Checked that the first line of the Bootloader screen reads 'Locked'. If not I advice to stop here and better follow the very comprehensive guides for upgrading that can be found in this forum. To go out of Bootloader mode navigate to 'Fastboot' menu item (with the volume keys), select it (Power button), and select 'Reboot'.
If Bootloader is locked connect the phone to the PC using the USB cable provided with the phone. The PC will recognize the device since the HTC Sync is already installed and running in the background. Win 7 shows a globe indicating that the device is recognized.
On the PC I browsed to where the RUU executable was downloaded and ran this installation utility. Then followed the onscreen instructions.
After several minutes in the process, status bars on the PC and the phone completing. Then disconnected the phone from the PC and rebooted the phone. After reboot the phone was on ICS!
Refer to the 'Upgrade the AT&T HTC Vivid to Ice Cream Sandwich via leaked RUU' article on the Android Authority site since this is where I took them.
And remember that my phone was a stock Vivid, never changed the Bootloader, never installed any type of ROM, the current ROM was a stock GB, model HTC PH39100 and the phone is SIM unlocked.
I'm posting this with the hope to help someone else in the same situation and has concerns about upgrading to ICS and bricking the phone in the process.

¡Felicidades!

Thanks for the translation, mate, still to hard for me. I found a better simple way to do it just like i did.
To get the ICS update on a AT&T HTC VIVID with unlocked SIM ( not root ) just dial *#*#682#*#* and thats it !!!! (make sure u have full batery or be connected (charging)
a download will apear on the bar up the screen i think was like 344mb , its going to take like 15-20 min, then the screen goes black an appear a symbol in the middle and a status bar, just wait for it to finish, When its done your phone will restart like 4 times by itself, and vuala!!! on the next restart the phone just got back on like a normal turn on , after the at&t logos it will appear the Beats Audio logo and next youll see your home screen but with the new under bar and the phone will start asking you to do some app updates. When you finish the updates the phone willnsynchronize all contacts, mails, sms, etc. and thats it !! ENJOY ICS AND SENSE 3.6 ON YOUR HTC VIVID.
I hope this post will help other people like me outside the us with sim unlocked vivid using a different carrier to enjoy the update!!

Ok guys so I'm a complete noob in developing roms and that stuff but I managed to update the Rom made by @justinswidebody (ATTFLEXROM JB) to Kitkat D95020b stock rom.
The process is pretty simple (always keep a backup of your EFS partitions it could be by FREEDOMFLEX app or a TWRP backup of it)
1. Return to stock with the flashable zip or ZV3 TOT with LG Flash tool.
2. Root - TWRP
3. Flash Justins ATTFLEX Rom.
4. From here you just have to set up the rom, Power OFF and go to DOWNLOAD MODE.
5. Flash ATTs Stock 20b TOT with LG Flash Tool.
6. Root (ioroot didnt work for me, but I used Towelroot app ) - TWRP
7. Flash a TWRP backup of the LS995ZV7 modem (M8974A-AAAANAZM-2.0.20049)
And thats it. You got KK D95020b rom on your LS995.
Mine is unlocked for GSM and I'm using it out of the US, so someone would have to test it over there.
I will upload my TWRP "modem only " backup if anyone needs it.
Will upload screenshots in a while I'm setting it up.
P.S. I have only found that NFC doesnt work.
What works?
DATA, RIL, WIFI, BT, TWRP - ROOT... KNOCK ON/OFF

Just a quick question. If I make a backup of my current modem with TWRP ( currently I am running the att rom on my sprint Flex and just want to update to KK) and flash it after I update to the KK rom will that work?
I personally used my twrp backup of LS995ZV7 Modem. You could try that but probably it will not boot. Or just show "radio off"
OK
I will wait and download the one you post. As this is my everyday phone I do not want to mess it up
THanks
Check your PM.
Help
Hi friend, i did all but i lost my modem backup, can you upload a backup of your modem?, another question, i cant flash stock of sprint rom cause flash tools said me to isnt same models, have another way to return to sprint rom?
@bto001 use towelroot + supersu + freedomflex. Download the ls995 zip found in this guide made by @kintwofan http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g...de-to-t2814158
Remember to always hit the "thanks" button if my post helped you.
This way you can return to stock without the need to use flashtool.
I will PM you the link to my twrp modem backup.
Hablas español?

Yes, I saw that you live in Honduras , I pedia key decryption file , but I tell you that I could already solved , thanks, now I have another problem , that v20 gives me no signal is off radius ( the search signal ) not achieving turn it in any way , and modify multiple files and nothing , achievement let me choose the type of networks ( CDMA , lte , gsm) but I can not do that search , I jump error immediately and the * # * # 4636 # * # * sends me to the features of the phone , and let me see that the radio is turned off but will not let me pin , I click and do nothing, you will have some idea ?, I restore efs but still nothing , I put simunlock folder and nothing gives me problems postscript rom with usb connections , as they sometimes do not recognize the cell pc (only this rom) and second postscript: as it is over there ? I never left Mexico eh =). Thanks in advance. Nothing again eh version of justin but I do not like because I do not properly knock on , just do it in the center of the screen and it does kk wherever.
I solve That just installing root explorer and change into carpet system / build.prop the model and restart , then a flashing back tot With stock rom.
I solve that just installing root explorer and change into system carpet/build.prop the model and restart, then flashing back with tot stock rom.
As it is full of spectacular landscapes and places beautiful country .
Ok I'll explain .
The process is returned to stock 4.2.2 unlock and be sure to use the lame q gsm signal.
After you install the rom 4.2.2 attsprint of justinswidebody .
Here you do the upgrade to kitkat d950 with tot and flashtool .
D950 use towelroot install TWRP Once in kk and you loads the backup of my modem. If you do not charge the backup never grabs modem signal.
And I also have the problem of including usb to charge no q restart . I 'm working on that I think could be the kernel.
regards
Saludos
Orale , pass me the key for decryption of your modem, mega asks me =)

OP UPDATED.
If this gets enough attention I will upload a full twrp backup and with help of some moderator we might make a flashable zip of this Rom.
I am also testing/replacing the system apps with the G3 ones so "we" (sprint) users can
have this GSM unlocked rom just as the D950 (att) model.

If you used the app that was posted here, it means you will need to flash a stock rom using SPflash. Follow the steps provided in the vid. Be sure you download all the files and drivers in the description.

Once fixed, follow the guide here to root your phone using adb. Faster and simpler :

google trad. :
I fixed it !!! *. * Had already tried with sp flash tools, but discovered that the menu of the blue screen really was nothing more than a kind of control system, the pc not recognize the device so I started to play with the controls in Chinese (and could not screw up more true? xD) until you can make the device connects to the PC and flash tools recognized him! thank you very much anyway: D!
Friends, it is my first discussion in the forum of this phone, like many, it happened to me that I lost the imei after trying to return to the rom stock from the rom experience pixel, I will be brief since my English is very poor, I installed via flash the rom stock SANDERS_OPS28.65-36_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml, since twrp recovery I did hard reset and left the phone without an operating system, then I just installed the updates and I had my imei again, I currently have the OPSS28.65-36 version -11-4 with my imei and VOLTE, I hope this information works for me, I will be aware of the forum and try to post the links this weekend, greetings from Colombia c:

I installed the version for the xt1800 on my xt1801, it must be borne in mind that this does not bring any problem in terms of compatibility since it is basically the same hardware, there is also no problem if you are from a region other than South America or Europe, since how does it work ...
the procedure is easy, via fastboot Flash the rom stock SANDERS_OPS28.65-36_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml - clean installation, wipe data / system / cache / dalvik cache-
--https: //drive.google.com/file/d/1I_4Oydd97dSpjJEMuy03Pz_GjzS4mYAk/view? usp = sharing ---
Then I just started the computer, connect to the internet via Wi-Fi, eye you should not change anything of the ROM, this included the recovery stock, you must keep in mind that this process has only been tested on two reference teams xt1801 and xt1800 both with bootloader unlocked However, the process must work on phones with the locked bootloader that have this imei null problem, after starting the phone, in the configuration section download the new patches, these will be in order OPSS28.65-36-11- 4 (without imei) subsequently OPSS28.65-36-14 with security patch level of 1 August 2019, in this compilation the imei will be present and your imei null problem would be solved c:
I appreciate the thanks c:

agradezco los agradecimientos c: :good::good::good:
Hi guys, I need help with my Redmi Note 10 purchased in Claro Colombia. This version has the SIM 2 locked.
I want to change the rom to the global version to enable the sim2 and remove all junk apps, but I don't know what software to use.
I would be very grateful if you could help me.

Hola, I think first you must unlock your bootloader, and then, you can flash every rom that you like (always official MIUI from Mi) https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/firmware-redmi-note-10s-rosemary-auto-updated.4294971/

Authi thanks for your reply
and for sharing your knowledge with others.
I used xiaomitools v2 changed the rom for me, but the logo still appears and did not enable the sim2.
I'm going to do what you tell me to unlock the bootloader and flash the rom to see if I can remove the logo and enable sim 2.

Hi,
If you want to remove all the junk apps, then i would recommend using this tool
https://github.com/Szaki/XiaomiADBFastbootTools
Its a very simple and useful tool
All the instructions are given there as well.
For the list of bloatware, you can refer these websites:

Saludos

Hello, if you download a ROM that is compatible with FastBoot, you do not need any additional application, or Xiaomitools or anything else. Unzip the .tgz file (with WinRAR for example) in a folder as close to the root of c: \ (I use c: \ temp) Then, there inside, you will find a file called "flash_all.bat". Simply, check that your PC recognizes the mobile, if you managed to unlock the bootloader, you should already recognize it without problems, then click on that file, an MS-DOS window will open, and with a little patience, let the batch file to work in a few minutes, you will be flaky of your tel. No problem. Do not desperate, if you spend some minute without it, it seems that it does not advance, let it work, and if everything goes well, you will have it resolved.
Greetings
