I just bought a Xperia Z from T-Mobile myself today (Blackberry Trade in Promo, $6 down!) and was just literally talking about this very concern.
I'm going to bypass the Bootloader Unlock and attempt a root/recovery without unlocking it. At that point there shouldn't be an issue with flashing a custom rom. As long as you can flash back to stock (stock recovery, stock firmware) you should be fine. There seems to be a handy "flashtool" in one of the stickies that will explain how to do this.
I imagine you at that point should be fine. I would advise: do not unlock your bootloader. Most OEMs (I worked for HTC for many years) watermark your device and it's a pain trying to remove it.
Worst case scenario you can always do a warranty exchange to get a fresh device before JUMP upgrading later.

Thanks...that's good to know. I know on the nexus devices it has a unlocked watermark on the boot screen. I'll try the flash tool out
You cannot unlock the bootloader on the C6606 anyway, so therefore you cannot run CM11 (or any CM/PAC/AOSP/AOKP based rom) as running the custom kernel it requires needs an unlocked bootloader. The most you can do is flash stock based custom roms.
To verify this for yourself, enter *#*#7378423#*#* in the dialler, then look in Service info -> Configuration. You will see that it says 'Bootloader unlock allowed : No'.
When you need to return the phone, just flash a stock C6606 FTF with Flashtool and there is no way they can detect that you rooted it or flashed another rom.

Is there a certain flashtool for c6606
Latest flashtool will work. I broke the screen on my first C6606 within first couple days and after rooting and installing custom stock rom. The screen didn't work though I suppose I still could've reverted to pure stock. Anyways, they replaced it with no questions asked and as mentioned above reverting is simple.

Windows 8.1? Hboot version?
Windows 7. Hboot 1.55 or 1.54.

I have the same problem, which existed already when i brought the phone. I extensively searched the net but found nothing. There are some post from others with the same problem but they never got an answer
I tried it with HBoot 1.54 and 1.55 - Windows 7 x64, Ubuntu x64 and x32.

Exactly the same problem... Does it give an error about unable to load splash if you try again?
I set mine back to stock for a repair, and since having it back i can't unlock it.
Either something we used to lock the boot while s-off has corrupted a partition, OR the repair place has made it so we can't unlock it.
When you first booted your phone, did you get the green recovery logo come up as if it was installing something? I did I think the repair centre has locked it down.
Hboot 1.55.
Definitely not a driver/ Windows issue.
Looking at other forums, the evo had the same issue which is fixed by running an ruu, butthe one ii want isn't out. (3.62.401.1).
I've tried flashing just firmware to no avail.

Gentlemen,
I brought a brand new, unlocked ATT MotoX to a friend out of the country, only to find out that the ATT version only has 4 languages compiled into it (ridicolous).
I've done some research and it seems like flashing the VZW ROM on the phone should do the trick (right?).
I've put the phone in fastboot and selected "recovery". After seeing the little Android image with "no command", I held the volume up button for about 6 seconds, followed by a tap of the power button (while still holding the volume button). It gave me the selection screen.
I picked "apply update from sdcard" and selected the "VZW_XT1060_4.4.2-KXA20.16-1.25.2_CFC_1FF.xml.zip" file I downloaded from here.
Here's the result:

Guys, my friend's English is not good. He needs the OS to be in his native language.
I am leaving town soon and would like to get the issue resolved and return the phone to him with all the languages, and able to work with non-US SIM Cards. Can you point me in the right direction? It will help us save time, since it's running fast.
Thanks in advance!
You can't flash AT&T phones with VZW firmware directly. You need to "port" the VZW firmware to the other model.

Thanks man.
I am reading threads that explain porting, but it seems like a steep learning curve, at least for the limited time I have at my disposal before departure.
I'll continue reading and try to figure this out. I am following this guide. I will report back if I encounter any issues.
In the mean time, if someone knows of a pre-ported VZW ROM that would work in my case - or - of a better guide to follow, please let me know, it would be immensely appreciated.
Cheers!
Ok, 1st issue: I extracted the Zip archives of both ROMs (ATT stock and VZW). Inside the archives is a few ".img", ".bin" files, one ".mbn" and one ".xml" file. I assume the directories and files mentioned in the guide are in the system.img file (1.1GB), correct? Should I extract it and work on those, or is there a better way?

Fist question... Is the ATT XT1058 you have SIM Unlocked or Bootloader unlocked?
SIM unlocking allows you to use the SIM from another carrier in your phone.. i.e. use a T-Mobile sim in an ATT branded X. That process does require you to have a different carrier's sim so the phone will prompt you to enter the unlock code. SIM unlock codes are available from many places around the web. It has no impact on rooting.
Bootloader unlocking allows you to flash a custom recovery, 3rd party roms, etc. By virtue of being able to flash a custom recovery you can easily root your phone. When it comes to the ATT XT1058 there is only only one place you can get a bootloader unlock code.. the Chinese Middleman (not as reliable as it once was, there is a BIG thread discussing it already).
If you are NOT bootloader unlocked, you will not be able to flash anything but the ATT XT1058 rom on that phone, no matter what you try. You will not be able to fully root and can not disable write protection once you have 4.4.2 on the phone.
As for adding languages, I thought there was another way, but I also thought that needed root and write protection disabled too.

And you'll need an unlocked bootloader to flash the ported rom you make if you follow those instructions.. (since it says you're ready to flash via CWM... and you can't flash CWM, TWRP or other custom recovery to the phone unless the bootloader is unlocked)
Edit: this is the other thread for adding languages.. basically its suggesting flashing the VZW ROM and then your modem files for your device -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/how-to-add-languages-to-moto-x-t2437807 which again needs unlocked bootloader.

I'm not entirely sure, but I'd venture to say that it's SIM Unlocked.
Is there a quick way to tell for sure?
If it turns out being bootloader LOCKED, we're pretty much screwed then, right?
Thanks again man.

Boot the phone into Fastboot/Bootloader mode (see -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/MotoX-BootloaderMode.htm ) The status code will be there.
If you have an ATT XT1058, they are shipped Bootloader locked, and the only way to unlock them is to use the Chinese web site or Middeman selling the codes. So unless you bought the phone USED from someone who already did this, its bootloader is locked.

Pretty much, unless you don't mind voiding your phone's warranty, and then depending on the age of the phone, see the Chinese Middlman thread to buy a BOOTLOADER unlock code..
I've not tried to add languages to my phone, so I can't help you to do it. Just that based on the quick searches I've done, the results have always needed the phone's bootloader unlocked.
Hi,
How are you?
I want to do "back to rom stock" + re-lock the bl.
Before the procedure I want to be sure that I'm doing the right steps - so, can you please approve that?
1. Downloading the recent "shamu" image (6.0.1 (MOB30W) and Extract directly to Platform-tools folder these:
- shamu-XXXXX.tgz
- shamu-XXXXX.tar
2. Open the CMD from Platform-tools folder and start typing 1 by 1:
- fastboot flash system system.img
- fastboot flash boot boot.img
- fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
- fastboot flash cache cache.img
- fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
- fastboot reboot
Is this process completely bring the N6 back to Google rom stock + re-lock the bootloader?
Thanks for your time & help!

And don't lock you bootloader, or at least leave it unlockable, unless you want to sell it. Google can brick it with an OTA.
Hi @istperson
1) You guess it correctly - I do want to sell it.
(It would be better just to relock and thats it?)
Why would Google's OTA will brick it while it exactly back to stock without root?
2) Can you plz review my 1st message here to tell me if everything is correct?
3) For some reasson (maybe Win10 upgrade) the drivers are not working anymore('fastboot devices' dose not showing anything)
Setting the driver is one of those things that could make me crazy...:cyclops:
Is there a tool that just do everthing by itself? (i'm not talking about flash tools that guides you).
Thanks a lot!

No, your steps are not correct. Follow the steps in the link that was provided in post 2.
Any tool would still have to have the drivers properly setup and adb working. The nexus is one of the easiest devices to restore to stock. But there is no magic wand.

If you want to lock it, then leave it as a last step when everything else worked. And the phone is completely back to stock, and booted up okay, and everything.
And Google made a couple of ugly mistakes in OTA-s, and the phones bootlooped. And yes they were not rooted, they were completely stock, because otherwise the OTA wouldn't have installed.

So, if i completely proceed with the all the necessary commands it will also relock the BL.
Do you think that it's better to NOT relock it (but if these commands doing that...)?
Thanks!

The bootloader is locked with the "fastboot oem lock" command.
If you're selling it then put it back to the original factory state. Without WiFi and sim card it will not receive updates. So let the new owner decide it he or she will unlock it or not.
Just don't lock it before you checked it boots.
Sent to another responce below
The updated replay bellow (found a method of "flash-all" script)
Hope to get an answer to this...
1) Found this (attached iamge), think it solve my question, right?
2) Drivers: I made a test - booted the n6 to BL and typed from the folder of the platform-tools: adb devices which gave me combination of numbers+letters ending with 'device'.
Guess that mean that the drivers are setted?
3) Heard something about that it's NOT recommanded to flash the rom stock bc's if the user doing an OTA it will brick the device?
So it better not proceed the 'fastboot oem lock'?
Anyone knows about it?
Thank you!
adb works in normally booted phone and in recovery. In bootloader mode you use fastboot.
Stock images won't brick your device, but an OTA might. Don't use OTAs, flash manually the updates. But you said you want to sell the phone, then flash stock, lock it, and sell it.

How to lock the own bootloader Huawei P8 Lite ALE-L21 before sent to warranty for reparation?
Well, he found a way for this enigma and let's see together what should we do.
Requirements:
- Unlocked bootloader;
- TWRP recovery;
- ALE-L21C432B049 (B052 for dual SIM);
- ALE-L21C432B595 (B596 for dual SIM);
- ALE-B895 (B896 for dual SIM) (it's the Emui 4.1). Thanks to surdu_petru for uploading.
This rom should be installed and running before "lock the bootloader" so pay attention about the steps I did and what I mean.
Locking Bootloader:
- Do a factory reset by wipe all partition from recovery.
- Reboot to Bootloader.
- Flash via fastboot C432B049 (B052 for dual SIM).
fastboot flash boot BOOT.img
fastboot flash recovery RECOVERY.img
fastboot flash cust CUST.img
fastboot flash system SYSTEM.img
- Do a factory reset from settings once the device is running and don't worry if you see unlocked bootloader.
- Now extract the UPDATE.APP from C432B595 (B596 for dual SIM), create a dload folder on sdcard and paste that update file inside it.
- Reboot the device by press vol up + vol down together and release them when update process is starting up.
- Now sit and drink something because update process can take some minutes with many automated reboots.
- Run OTA update as latest step.
- Now your bootloader should be "LOCKED" and not "RELOCKED" like the following image, happy locking..

I guess you can't brick your phone with locked bootloader. This phone ain't that bad xD
Flashing a wrong boot.img will brick it? I mean old esal 2.2 for emui 4.1...Than if they don't accept it back, i will repair it.
I think you can't flash anything if you don't have unlocked bootloader.

Hello, I pre-ordered the Mi 11 from my phone carrier (SFR, France) and so I own the phone since launch and there have been no OTA updates.
I'm running MIUI Global 12.0.2.0(RKBEUSF). I can't flash a more recent EU rom because I can't unlock my bootloader. Whenever I go to unlock status and press the button, it says something about it being impossible to verify, no matter what I do. I'm basically stuck with this rom. There are numerous bugs (notably gesture navigation doesn't work at all, the bar at the bottom doesn't do anything, I have to use the 3 buttons instead). Anyone know what to do? Thanks!
Google how to unlock bootloader for mi 11. There is a whole procedure to follow. Hitting the unlock button alone is not working.

but that's like the first part no? If I can't do this then I can't unlock it at all.
I had exactly the same ROM because i had the Mi 11 Cloud White with a fu****g RKBEUSF instead of RKBEUXM... So you can't upgrade in local mode.
You must ask for unlock bootloader, for this you must :
1/ Create a Mi Account
2/ Donwload Xiaomi Unlock available here
3/ Your Phone will be listed "Locked" (Blue) or "Unlocked" (Red), if it's locked, you must click Unlock for asking Unlock ticket, and you must wiat after that 168 hours [1 week]. Don't try to ask before this delay if not waiting delay is resetted.
4/ Before the Unlock you must save / backup all your data (DCIM, Contacts, SMS, etc...) because Unlock Bootloader causiing a full Wipe / Delete Data partition.
5/ After waiting 1 Week (i advise to try to unlock after 1 hour more for be sure), launch again Xiaomi Unlock, click unlock... Unlock process check Xiaomi servers... And it's done !
After that you will finally use Mi Flash Tool here and flash your ROM Global RKBEUXM in fastboot mode. You can found the lastest rom here : venus_eea_global_images_V12.5.2.0.RKBEUXM
You must extract the *.tgz (with a archiver like 7Zip or WinRAR) and put the path in Mi Flash Tool, and here we goooo for approximatively 8/10 minutes
Can i lock my bootloader afterwards to restore OTA updates?
The unlocker is asking me to connect my account on the mi unlock status page on my phone. I tried it (again) and this appeared. Nothing I do changes this. Any ideas?

I did but after removing it and adding it back, it finally worked. I'll proceed with the unlocking then.
But before I do it, I gotta ask. Does it void my warranty? Can I relock the bootloader afterwards? Can I receive OTA updates? Thanks!

Sure, after passed on EEA your bootloader will be relock. Unlock bootloader (for Xiaomi) do not void warranty.
Personnaly i prefer keep unlock on my 12.5.2 EU for Root.
After be passed on EUXM you will have OTA on your original canal, finish the custom EUSF (SFR)
