Ok, so this was finally working as expected after the 4.4.2 OTA. Now, yesterday's update of Assist no longer resumes play of the podcast I was listening to on Pocketcasts when driving. It opens the app, but does not resume playback.
Same thing with Play Music as well.
I have wiped the Assist's data and cache, uninstalled updates, wipe the phone's cache, re-installed the update and re-setup Assist and the behavior is still the same.
Anybody else seeing this?

I just got my moto x last week and also have this problem.
it sees that I'm driving and launches play music in the background but does not start playing.
kind of defeats the purpose of assist if you still have to unlock your phone and hit play....
The only work around I found was just installing bluetooth connect so music starts playing when my car bluetooth connects.
would also like to see a way to play/pause and skip tracks using voice commands.
Yeah... Mark [email protected] is aware of the issue so hopefully it gets fixed soon in an update.

Thnx for the bar code
Has anyone spotted anything outstanding yet? I've not really seen anything I would think would win.
Yesterday I reviewed Drive AR Navigation on the ADC 2 app. Basically it is an augmented reality based Sat Nav system, but use the live video feed from your camera instead of maps. Overlays the insturctions on top of the live video feed. Uses the compass as well as gps. Contains voice directions obviously. Failry awesome. But useless at night as the video feed from my HTC Hero camera is rubbish at night.
i tried ADC2 for a week or so and have been having fun.
but yesterday, when I downloaded an app "YourKey", it crashed my phone and non-stop prompted me "Force Close" and it still did the same even after I rebooted the phone. The home won't load up because it constantly crashed and prompted the "Force Close" so it means I can't even uninstall the crashing App.
At the end i had to hard reset my phone and redid everything which took me hours.
Somehow I believe some of these apps have not been tested thoroughly.
Be careful. Take your own risk. I gave up on that.
I'm trying out CM10.1 JB using Safestrap, and I'm having some problems, the worst of which is I can't install Evernote.
I was using the CM10.1 Targa, the 4-15 afternoon "nightly build", with latest GApps (the one dated 20130315)
It downloads the latest from Play Store, then gives an "error (-24)" in the notification, and the install aborts. Then the notification went away and there's no evidence of I ever tried to install it.
I've seen similar messages from some of the apps I ran fine on 4.0 ICS (official) like SeeCPU but I can live without those. But I need Evernote. (the website ain't the same)
I've also have problems with Play Books and Drive / Docs, and Play Music. I've reset data on those three apps but they refuse to work (and also ate up my battery life). So right now they are uninstalled. Play store initially crashed but after a data reset worked fine.
What is error -24?

Here's a screenshot of the error.
I've since noticed that Pulse (the news reader) won't install either, same error.
ROM Manager just quits immediately after run
Same thing happened with the 0420 build.
I got the Play Music problem resolved by uninstalling the app then going into Play Store to install it from scratch. There's some old settings cached that's cuasing problems. Not even clear data will solve this. had to be full uninstall / install.
Google Books got the same -24 install problem.
A full factory reset and wipe / reinstall made the problem go away. So at least now someone knows what NOT to do.
Owner of an S4A and I love the phone, it convinced me to leave iphone for good.... until now. I recently installed a new head unit in my truck a Sony XAV-601bt, and when the bluetooth audio connects it asks to complete some action but i don't know what it is. No matter what i do music calls etc work fine on the head unit but for some reason my phone forgets the default launcher (nova launcher) and default music player (rocket) and default SMS app (gosms). I've exhausted google search looking for anything that resets app defaults and only found app managers etc, and i've not found anything related to the radio.
My question is this is there a way to find out what action is being executed so that I can find the correct app for it? I'm thinking that without that action it's causing strangeness with the rest of the phone
here is the screen i get when the phone pairs to the head unit

You need 25 posts before you can post pics or links on XDA. My S4A works fine with my Sony head unit on my Harley. The first time it connected it asked if it could access my contacts. If you somehow skipped that step that might be your problem. You also mentioned what you say are default apps, but those sound like the names of non-stock apps. You may have set them as the defaults, but they may not work properly with other devices expecting to interface with the apps as the phone came from Samsung.
Looking to purchase an Android Auto Kenwood headunit.. I was messing around with one at my local car audio shop, and noticed that in Play Music 'My Library' was absent.. Is it possible to browse all the music stored on my phone, or has Google disabled that in the interest of driving safety?
It SHOULD work, that's the idea.
I dunno why it didn't for you.
It doesn't work for me either. I have a Note 5

One little documented issue with Android Auto is that it enforces a maximum number of screen presses, around 5-6, to select music.
This is done to minimize driving distraction.
If your music collection has a deep hierarchy, AA may decide not to show it.
Ouch, that's a shame. This is one of the first things i noticed too.. Most of my music can't be seen, but can only be accessed via playlists or via voice command. This is in my 2016 Golf GTI.
I remembered during a test drive before i bought my car that I was able to see most of my music, but maybe that was because I didn't have much on my phone at the time.
Google really needs to include a library function comparable to that of the Google play music app because as of now, I much prefer the simple music browsing function of CarPlay.
I'm having the same issue on my 8100NEX. With Google Play Music, it's not a problem with a number of taps or a large hierarchy...because I've just started using it and have a pretty small library and haven't uploaded any of my own personal songs yet. It's just that the Library isn't there. So you have to either queue up a bunch of songs or create playlists for everything you want to listen to instead of adding albums and saving songs to your library. Or just rely on your "recent history" to have what you want, which is pretty dumb if you ask me. Hope they fix this.
Using a Pixel 2 on Oreo 8.1 in an Audi A3 with MMI interface. When not running Android Auto on my phone, track information is updated on the MMI as expected. Android Auto does not run in this car (only on the phone) - but the car supports AVRCP 1.0/1.3 according to the manual
But when Android Auto is running, the track information is not updated reliably and gets 'stuck' showing the same track information even when the song changes. It usually updates the song once or twice and refuses to do so subsequently when the track changes or is advanced manually. Track progress still displays, however. This problem does not occur with the Google Play Music app, which seems to work faultlessly in this respect. Problem seems completely reproducible.
I've tried forcing the Pixel 2 to AVRCP 1.3 (1.4 is default) in Developer Options, but this makes no difference.
Anyone any ideas for how to fix this?
Anyone have AVRCP track data actually working with Spotify when Android Auto is running (on a Pixel 2 and/or Oreo)?

I get the same thing once in a while in my 2016 S6. It's gotten better with Android 8.1 (December update), but does happen once in a while I listen to my Podcasts.
Same issue in my VW Sharan, no track info or elapsed time updates via Bluetooth AVRCP when playing from the Spotify integration in Android Auto.
Song info and elapsed / total track time display is fine when using the Spotify app itself.
Pixel 2 XL, Android 8.1.0.
