Hello everyone! I am interested in buying a TF701T and i would like to make some questions:
1) Am i able to use USB Joypads on it and apps like Tincore Keymapper?
2) I saw this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2594194) and i would like to know if i am able to read office documents properly in 800p? (Yes, i will root my device) Am i able to play newer games in 1200p? Do i can use HDMI Cables on these resolutions?
3) Am i able to use certain peripherals, like USB Mouse, USB Keyboard, USB HUB (anyone can suggest me one with good speed?), USB 3G Modem?, USB Sticks and USB Memory card readers?
4) Am i able to use 128GB SD Card on the dock?
5) Am i able to use GLTools on it (I know it needs root)?
6) Any physical shop i can buy it (traveling to the USA on the next weeks) with the dock?
7) Is there some 128GB Micro SD card for use it on the tab?
8) The Dock Keyboard Layout is US-International?
9) The OS supports any other languages than US English?
10) What is the best custom rom so far?

1) USB joypads work but I don't know about that one in particular but certainly my logitech, xbox and I hear PS3 controllers work.
2) The lower the res the more blurry i becomes..... Typically you scale the dpi to match the res so that things don't become too small. It's hard to explain without demonstrating it but it's a bit like changing the res on a PC to higher or lower and then adjusting the font sizes to compensate if needed.
3) Most common USB Peripherals work so hard drive, usb stick, mouse and keyboard definitely. 3G USB Modem - use a MiFi instead as I don't think the kernel contains the native drivers for those.
4) No idea but theoretically it should support one
5) What is it?
6) Don't know - not in the US
7) Don't know - do know they are expensive - 2x 64GB much cheaper?
8) If you buy it in the US it will be US layout
9) Yes - 30+ languages supported
10) Mine CROMi-X

1) Nice. Because i'm very bad with using touchscreen.
3) Don't you mean WiFi?
4) Does the dock supports MicroSD/SD adapter like the ones Kingston and SanDisk sells, so i can use two 2x64 MicroSD cards?
5) GLtools is an GPU driver similar to the Discontinued Chainfire3D. But for Newest versions like Jelly Bean and KitKat.
8) Right. Some kind of app to modify the keyboard layout?
9) Supports Brazilian Portuguese or European Portuguese? (Not obligatory to me. I learned english by myself)
10) Your rom looks awesome!!! Is it optimized for newer games? I'd like to play GTA SA, Construction Simulator 2014 and GT Racing 2 on medium settings.

8) Yes there are apps to modify the keyboard language layout

There are more questions i want to ask.
*Does the rooted device suports foldermount or something similar that allows App data/obb on SD?
*I have heard the device's native resolution is bad for gaming. Is it true?
*Does it support printhand with usb printers?
*Any plans for KitKat on this device?
*How long the battery last in games,With and without the dock?
Sorry for double posting (i can't edit my posts for some reason) but i also would like to know if i'm able to use BT keyboard and mouse simultaneously.

1. Not without kernel edits - so currently no
2. Res is fine but with custom rom or root you can decrease the res if you *need* to
3. I can print using wifi print apps
4. kitkat is out with custom roms and cm11 base
5. 5 to 6 hours if you are using it heavy - maybe 9 to 10 with the dock
6. no idea but should work

Have installed HC 0.4 and am loving it. I have two issues however:
1) Is it normal that I can no longer see the NC from the PC over USB? When I connect (Win 7) I see two removable drives appear but both are zero size. Was the stock Nook special in that regard? (I have installed DropBox as a means of transferring files, but USB would be useful)
2) Is there a workaround for the mysterious disappearing apps from the market under HC 0.4? Many of my favorites from AutoNooted stock have disappeared. Is it because the model is now a "LogicPD Zoom2"?

I wish I could be more specific, but I'm new here and only remember a few users names so far... A dev/customizer named "Sam" released an app to restore that function that he is calling "NookColorUMS". It is included in the Honeycomb eMMC ver. 2 install (which is also by Sam).
I could speculate to reasons for #2, but your guess is just about what I would assume is at least partially at fault. Depending on what all user agent data is sent, it could be that we only have half of the agent masked if that is the cause. I am fairly new to Linux and very new to Android however so I am by no means an expert. Give me a windows based IT question and I am much more useful, but I doubt that matters much if at all here
This app allows you to mount sdcard2 through usb. Thought I would share. I remember some discussion about whether to mount internal or external sd card by default, with this you can mount internal by default and then just switch between the two relatively quickly.

Don't apologize for having standards. I agree wholeheartedly with you.
Half of the apps I try are so obnoxious with their ads that I uninstall and add them to a list of apps I won't buy.
A full version with full functionality that times out after 30 days or so (giving you a chance to REALLY try it out) does not seem like too much to ask.
I don't get what happened. I tried it and l don't see any ads. There are a few features disabled in the free one.

thanks to individuals who jump to conclusions, such as Ed Hardy:

threads resulted like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982416&page=2
and this:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-3/169413-droid-3-webtop.html
on that note, I believe we are all aware of how much more advanced the droid 3 is than the droid x. speculating, I would assume it would be just as capable of supporting webtop as the bionic since they have pretty much the same hardware.
also, it appears as though people have successfully ported simpler editions of Linux into android environments onto various devices as seen here:
http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1SNNT_enUS429US429&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=ubuntu+g1
furthermore, someone has successfully paired a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse with an Atrix as seen here:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-atrix/65382-webtop-application-hdmi-cable-no-dock-3.html
so basically, my question is if we were able to replicate/modify a gingerbread-compatible version of realHDMI for video output, confirm the existence or integrate the ability to communicate with Bluetooth mice and keyboards, and for ease-of-use have them all activate under one circumstance ( like with Tasker or something), would it be practical to somehow use that linux environment in conjunction with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard and hdmi output and have something close to webtop with the Droid 3?
**disclaimer:
I'm new. Please don't crucify me if I posted something that is false. I'll correct it if you let me know.
The main issue I believe with doing that is the droid 3 has 512 mb of ram. The bionic has that amout set aside just for webtop. I'm not sure its even possible, or realistically usable on our phone, although if it is that'd be really cool.

why does that matter? the 1GB of storage is because the webtop app is part of the ROM. even an un-rooted D3 could store a user-created app somewhere else, like the SD card.
also, why bother with BT mouse and keyboard? use a USB host controller (simple cable, that attaches to the mini-USB) and you can attach wireless USB versions (cheaper, and more available).
oh. didn't know that existed. lol.
sounds pretty sweet!
is it confirmed to work with this phone?
Storage and ram are not the same.
Droid 3 has 512 meg of ram.
Droid Bionic has 1024 meg of ram.
Webtop uses a good chunk of that to function, if the Droid 3 could run it...what ram would we use to run our applications in now, since its mostly being used by Webtop?

How hard would it be to create a generic android laptop dock/webtop. Take something in the style of a laptop. The monitor is fed via microHDMI, the speakers could be fed either with HDMI audio or 3.5mm headphone jack. Keyboard and touchpad support are done via bluetooth or USB host if the phone supports it. The keyboard, touchpad, monitor and microUSB charging for the phone would all be powered by a battery and charger on the laptop style body.
Maybe this all isn't possible now. Perhaps when we get Android ICS we'll get better bluetooth support so that generic keyboard/mouse support is universal.
Running Debian squeeze with vncserver LXDE and connecting with androidVNC client here. Its not too bad atleast not as bad as my Touch Pro 2 was. from what i recall of realhdmi from my droid x, the output was a mirror, so whatever was displayed on the screen came up on the tv, but the x was also single core, which apparently makes a huge difference in output processing methodology.
is there any similar software for the new dual core architecture processors?
if there was a way to get a stable version of ubuntu as the desktop interface in "webtop" form, that would be amazing (mostly because i am familiar with it. lol)

The original Bionic had only 512mb of ram as well.
To OP:
I have been pushing for this for a while. There's NO reason that webtop can't be ported to the Droid 3. I want to see it done because webtop is the only feature I truly want that I don't have on my Droid 3.

Webtop does shut down and Android still controls process management; Webtop runs as a guest OS on the device and the Android VM provides APKs for interfacing with it (like sharing contacts, emails, etc between apps or mouse/keyboard input).
You're not going to be using webtop and your phone at the same time. When you're done with webtop, you'll shut it down and resume using your phone.
Are there any good write-ups on what exactly webtop is and how it works?
Is it just a second linux instance limited to a basic shell and web browser? If so could we look at compiling Puppy for arm to live in the reduced space?
Its an ARM flavor of pared-down Ubuntu running as a guest OS. I'm assuming it runs some type of proprietary VNC-type protocol that communicate with the Android VM.
Last I checked there were 3 or 4 Android services/activities associated with Webtop. One of them monitored the dock connectedness, one appeared to provide shared data access (like contacts, emails, notes, documents, etc), and I'm guessing one was responsible for the phone homescreen snapshots.
Bluetooth mouse, keyboard ok
Good news! I just paired my Rocketfish bluetooth keyboard and mouse (models RF-BTKB2 and RF-BTMSE2) with my Droid 3 and both work! Details follow:
The mouse cursor is black. Brings the phone out of suspend when moved as expected. Scrollwheel works. Right click functions as the "back key," center click is the menu. Traditional left click works like normal. Swiping things doesn't work (the screens get stuck in the animation *unless* you drag and release at the right time). All multimedia buttons (play, forward/back, stop) work.
Most keys on the keyboard work like normal. Exceptions:
F1: Menu
F3: Dialer
F4: locks phone
F5: Search
F2,F6-F12: don't do anything.
HOME: Desktop preview
Numlock: Doesn't activate
Number pad: Functions as arrow keys (as expected with Numlock not engaging).
Math keys (next to numpad): +-*/ do not function either
Arrow keys ok
CTRL: Menu
ALT: No function
Super/Windows key: Menu
Print screen, Scroll lock, and Pause/break keys appear to have no function.
My keyboard also has multimedia keys:
Volume up/down adjust system/ringer/music volume all work
Mail: Does nothing
Search: brings up search
Play/Pause/Forward/Backward/Mute all work in the (default) music application.
I bought the Rocketfish Bluetooth keyboard/mouse because they are extremely Linux compatible. Not sure if results will be the same with other devices.
If anyone wants to see the results of "adb logcat" when I press keys just ask and I'd be happy to post. The good news is it appears bluetooth keyboard/mice are reasonably well supported.
My Razer Orochi (bluetooth mouse) connects to my D3 just fine (as expected) and each button performs the same as the guy above me said his mouse did.
So now all we need to do is try the Droid bionic HD station dock when it's out to make this happen?
Tho i'm not interested in the webtop stuff, i'd like to use the usb ports and have a better dock then the current Droid 3s.
-smc
Tip - Ctrl-Alt-Del on the bluetooth keyboard restarts the phone
ok, so then:
keyboard/mouse = proven
webtop capability = plausible, with recompilation of some form of ubuntu
hdmi output = yet to be determined
dock sensing/emulation = plausible, probably going to be one of the easier tasks to accomplish
right?
If its a modified *Ubuntu img why not see if anyone is able to extract it from the phone, and view the root fs?
The D3 should have no issue with the ram, the eris can run Debian/Ubuntu and function fine. It stores everything minus the vnc on the SD card.
I'm moving over to the D3 soon myself, and would love to see a proper webtop, desktop system on this phone.

So I tried to port it using files from the bionic. Dd'd /dev/block/webtop to a secondary portion on my sdcard. Mounted at /osh, mounted /proc at /proc/osh and can't get anything to run. Copied the webtop apk's and odex's over as well. Need somebody more knowledgeable.
tallnerd1985 said:
It maybe possible but you would have mount the partition off the memory card due to the inability to partition off the internal NAND for /OSH which is where the Webtop files are stored. Hi All,
First post! I just got a Nook Color from the Overstock sale and bought two as gifts for my mom and gf. I figured I'll learn all the tricks and how-to's on mine and be able to help them Christmas day. So far, I got myself a SanDisk 16GB Class 4, followed koopakid's awesome tutorial and have successfully installed the latest RC version of CM7. I ran into a bit of trouble getting the Google Apps to install, (just wound up manually adding Gmail from marketplace), and am really happy. But I have a few questions from where to go from here...
After getting CM7 off the SD card, how can I add files to the additional 15GB or so of unused data? And is it possible to do so without constantly removing my card?
I thought I read somewhere to "lock your screen" or something to prevent lag, but what does that mean?
Is it possible to download an app on my PC and install it to the Nook?
What's the best app/settings to tweak a rooted Nook?
I don't mean to be "that guy", but I didn't see a general help thing and don't understand some of the stuff I was reading earlier. Any help and advice is appreciated!

Yes, just plug your Nook into your computer via USB and then select the option in your status bar to mount as USB. It should pop up on your computer as 2 different drives one for your SD card and one for EEMC.

I'm not really sure what you want here but I would suggest getting a new browser such as Opera or Dolphin first. Another good app to have is Nook Screen Recalibrate for when your screen get a little wonky.
For reading I use Aldiko.
For watch videos I use Mobo Player
And if you haven't yet download tge Amazon Appstore for a free app every day.

Thank you KK! I'm definitely going to trying moving stuff on there once I get home! So far, the only thing I did was go through the Android Marketplace to get the Dolphin Browser earlier, but was hesitant on any of the other apps like e-Reader stuff, (heard great things about Aldiko), music, and videos.
As far as that lock screen, I have to find that post. It know it mentioned something about the screen behaving laggy or something if not locked when putting it down. That or I could be way off and misread it.
One last question: I got 2 more Nooks as presents and don't want to open them, but would it be possible to follow the same basic install using SD on my Nook and simply including those pre-made cards in the unopened Nooks or does this stuff have to be done Nook by Nook so to speak?

Yes, the cards are not specific to one Nook so you can go ahead and make them before.

So… I went ahead and tried some tweaking. And now I think my stupid is showing.
I was browsing some apps and figured I’d give the Nook Color Tweak one a go since it’s specifically made for rooted NC’s. After I downloaded & installed it, I noticed I can’t overclock the CPU, (heard it’s stable even at 1GHz) or enable USB Host Mode (so I can drag-n-drop eBooks and app files while the NC is connected to a PC). Apparently I need the “Dalingrin's OC kernel”. And that’s where I got intimidated.
I was thinking about this and I think I’m having two “issues”: 1) I’m not sure how to continue tweaking the NC and 2) since this is my first introduction to Android, I think I need to bang through some tutorials and guides for the OS itself before getting myself overwhelmed with the NC stuff. Time to research…

First off what CM version are you using? Dal's overclock kernel is included in the latest 7.1 stable.
Also, USB host mode is not dragging and dropping enabling its for connecting USB devices like flash drives to the Nook. To enable dragging and dropping on your computer just plug it in via USB and then select the option to mount as USB.

Where is the icon for me slamming my head agains the wall? Or wearing a dunce cap? That's not at all what I was thinking the USB mount thing meant. I.D.I.O.T.
As far as the Kernel, I'm actually using the RC 7.1 from the instructions. Everything I read mentioned that it was included which is a large part of why I'm a bit confused on that stuff.

I'm pretty certain that the kernel was added around nightly 150 whitch is after the RC release. Updating is a pretty simple procedure.

Thanks KK! I did some searching for a nightly and how to flash, but I'm actually thinking about just starting from scratch if only for reference. Since I'm giving 2 as gifts this Christmas, I'd like to have a little handy document & files on a thumbdrive I can follow and get this going. I'm thinking about starting from scratch with a nightly in place of a RC and going from there.
Now I just need to figure a PDF reader that allows me to pinch-zoom.

For those worried about not being able to install big games such as, Nova 3, Asphalt etc, due to the lack of storage.
Look at this application
(personally I have not used it, but users have reported it to be working)

If it works for you let us know
(I have not developed this application so all credits go to slig, I just found it and thought it would be useful for those with a 8gb Nexus)

Wow...good lookin' out! I've been unlocked/ rooted for a while now, but haven't utilized otg since the one thing I would use it for ( huge, rarely used apps/games) couldn't be done. I have a few games that I play (only 2-3 ) but they are over 1Gb. So I only have one installed, because I don't play them enough to warrant them taking the last of my storage. Thanks
I just copy over the game files in sdcard/android/data via samba to my laptop. Delete the game files if i need space and restore if i want the game later. Just waiting for my OTG cable to arrive which will speed things up. Any number of sync apps on the market (foldersync a very good one) to manage it automatically.
