So Ashton Kutcher will be working with Lenovo designing devices. What do you guys think, would you get a moto x "two and a half men edition" ?

Glad I got my X before he became associated with it. I really can't stand him.

I saw that article too, at least Lenovo is putting some marketing $$$ into their upcoming phones. The MotoX never really got out there as the premium device it is. I only know two others with the X and both bought because I recommended. Never see anyone with an X when I'm out and about.
Ashton Kutcher is only going to be "working" on Lenovo phones. Moto is going to remain independent and work on their own Droid and X lines. The only influence Lenovo is going to have on Moto is international relations and production capacity. Expect what we've seen from Moto for the past 8 months to continue.
Lenovo can do whatever it wants, so long as they let Motorola operate on their own and simply invest in their potential. The Moto X is proof that good ideas still exist. Moto X with Utter! Tasker and the Xposed Modules is what the Moto X should've been and if Lenovo can tap into this potential: they'll have a real game-changer.
I've seen that on techradar, I found out Kutcher used to be an engineer before he modeled and I my mind was blown! funny things you find out on the web

Ok, seen enough.
Folks, OT Posts should go in the XDA Off Topic Forums. Sorry, but this thread serves absolutely no purpose but to invite trolling, which it seems it already has.

This is very well known. Belongs in the general section, and there are already three other threads qwith this. And bout ten threads that turned into talks like this. All unlock talk has already discussed

Sign my butt. This isn't going to work. People have been complaining about locked bootloaders on a plethora of Moto phones for years, and an online petition won't make any sort of difference.

I don't have any issue with the concept of this, and I signed it, although I don't think moto cares given the size of the actual modding population. However, why do people throw around the word 'rights' so much? Really, it's a right? No it's a want... I know I'll prolly get derided for this but still... Right?
This convo has been had millions of times. really doesnt need to be repeated to the same effect where it changes nothin
Agreed.

I agree with you 100%.
I still signed.
That's how frustrated I feel at all this. I'm reminded of my time with the orginal milestone. Checking internet every day to see if someone fgured out how to shoehorn froyo onto the thing. For some reason I thought moto would change... maybe it was because they said they would.
Yeah its a long shot for this petition to do anything, I very sincerely doubt it will. But I would love to be wrong. It only takes two seconds to sign it.
Signed also
While I've signed the petition, I have a ready-made solution that nobody has seemed to mention yet... stop buying Motorola devices.
I've enjoyed Moto's offerings since the OG Droid days, mainly because of the superior build quality, but due to Moto's lock down on devices, and their lack of willingness to placate us, the way HTC has done, the D3 will be the last Motorola device I purchase. Let's face it, performance-wise, Moto doesn't build top-notch machines, the screen quality is sub par, and support is non-existent. Build quality is the ONLY thing they have going for them, and with Samsung making moves to improve their own build quality, I don't see any reason to stick around.
Motorola is not going to change their stance on this matter, and as such, the only way we can really make them listen, is by hitting them where it hurts...their wallets. I believe over 10,000 people have signed the petition (not a huge number, compared to global Moto sales), but 10,000 units at $150 each, equates to $1,500,000 in revenue. Again, that number may be small by comparison, but I'm sure a $1.5m decrease would get someone's attention.
My advice to anyone who's upset enough to sign this petition, is to move to a company with a better track record of being development friendly. Quad-core offerings are on the horizon, and a new Nexus device should be spotted around Christmas...I'll be saving my money, and WILL be jumping ship as soon as I can. The Moto journey has been "fun", but it's time to trade build quality for better performance and support. I'm done buying phones that are (essentially) dead on arrival, and obsolete within 3 months of release... I urge the rest of you to follow suit.

Yes! That's my main issue . However a soft keyboard is looking more and more possible as there won't be any other options...
Well I believe that we all want to free our Bionics from moto's lockdown. The knowledge and talent to bypass the bootloader is here and now. There are many that have signed petitions, started threads, and took there voice to the top of Verizon and motorola. Hopefully we can keep all that enthusiasm, and focus that energy to Kholk with Eternityproject. So why no love for the Bionic, the "red headed step child"? Why does the Razr already have a bootloader bypass?
I just talked to Kholk.....The issue is that these talented individuals behind developing the bypass for other moto phones simply don't have a Bionic to develop it on which makes things very difficult. So the question is....what can we do about it? How bad do you want this? If you have a Bionic to spare or some extra$ send me a PM for a direct link. You can also go to Eternityprojects website and give there. Just make sure you state that it's for the Bionic. I hope the moderators of this forum can understand the importance of this developement and NOT kill this thread. This is a great leap in development.
Here's the donate page for EternityProject:

As much as I wish this was true look at the past. There are far and few who have been with and only with Motorola for a reason, and ashamed I am one. Other than the device that was no longer supported by Motorola there is only one that got lucky due to an internal source. If any one truly wants to donate money it might as well be in another manufacturer. I'm not hating on any external developers I'm just saying we all should learn the lesson that rings true. Motorola wants us all to blame the service provider but the truth is they just don't have the balls to stand up to them like other manufacturers do (Samsung). We all paid and own this device yet we are still told what we can and cannot do with it. To me this sounds like a lawsuit and yes we have heard arguing view points from both sides for for years now need not it be now. Long story short, you have lost one more customer Motorola....

I think we should just look into the future of the moto bypass.
This isn't about moto...it's about us!
[mbm] started the work on the kexec bypass on the Bionic and gave his code base to kholk, who then adapted it for his GSM RAZR with success. He then sent that back to [mbm] to try to make it work on the CDMA/LTE Razr. That has not worked unfortunately and they are both still working on it. It does not work as is on the D4 or Bionic either.
My point is that this exploit originated on the Bionic as an extent ion of the Milestone kexec project and the principal dev who did it already has the device. I am not against donating to devs for devices but I also don't think throwing money at a problem is always the best route to a solution either.
Just an FYI about some of the history here.
Maybe Motorola will wake up due to their slumping sales. I still prefer Motorola to Samsung though. But I will seriously look into going back to HTC this winter.

From Droid-LIfe the VP of Product at Motorola (recently moved over from Google) recently made some statements that they know we got screwed. Here is the excerpt.
Punit Soni has only been the VP of Product at Motorola for a few weeks and already has taken to Google+ to interact personally with current customers to try to fix some of the company’s past mistakes. One of the topics he is actively involved in includes the DROID Bionic and the fact that it still has not received its Ice Cream Sandwich update. As you all know, Motorola previously promised to the world that the update would be here in “early Q3,” however, we are now days away from the end of Q3 and the update is no where in sight.
Soni admits that Bionic owners have “gotten a raw deal” thus far and that a new plan is being formed, but also wants it to be clear that with the new Motorola team at the top, they are doing everything they can to eliminate situations like this from ever happening:
"We have a plan for Bionic. I am currently solidifying things to ensure we can publish it, commit and follow up. I think you guys have gotten a raw deal and we could do way better. But you are one of the top few things I worry about when I look at Upgrades."
The Google+ thread of his that we have linked below continues on for quite some time and is filled with Soni’s responses to all sorts of customers. One comment of his that stood out was the thought that his team now knows to “take your complaints seriously” and that in the future, they will be transparent and stand next to upgrade timelines:
" Again..I totally understand how you feel. And this should never happen. I am not going to throw out the argument “we just got here”. We are taking responsibility for this. And we will engage with you, listen carefully to your concerns and most importantly, try to FIX things.
So we are doing that. My team knows to take your complaints seriously, we are working hard to update the Upgrades timeline pages to reflect the right data, and then we WILL stand next to those timings and will meet them. As far as what is in our control, we will be transparent and we will commit to your happiness."

Yea, I saw this. To really make up for it. Just skip ICS and surprise us with Jelly Bean. I would love Motorola forever if they did that.

Well, making it right would probably be one of two things: either some type of subsidy toward the purchase of a new device, or Jelly Bean. Either way, it's better than nothing!
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
At this stage, a subsidy for a new phone would be what I want. Over a year and no ICS OTA. Time to get better hardware running JB, than wait for Verizon to maybe send it out.
I can't make up my mind if I would rather want an update to JB or having our bootloader officially unlocked as a form of compensation.
this whole ics thing on the bionic bums me out. I love the phone, bought ALL the accessories like lapdock, hd dock, standard doc and every case you can imagine, then this! Moto, there is still time to prevent us from being thrown under the bus. you know what to do, NOW DO IT!
How much of the no ICS is Motorola and how much is Verizon? I'd bet Verizon has a big hand it. They want you to buy a new phone and a new 2 yr contract. Motorola gets paid no matter what and will keep developing phones.
All I have to say is that it better be Jelly Bean. A credit of $100? Big deal, that $100 is a credit towards a different Motorola. I don't want another Motorola again after this experience. Next will be either a Samsung or HTC.
Fyi apparently Bionic owners won't get the credit of $100.

Well despite the delays I still love my Bionic, even if ICS is not yet officially available. Regardless the lack of a $100 rebate is not the end of the world for me. I'll probably get a Samsung when the time to upgrade comes along. Oh well..
I think it is soon time to leave Motorola for a while. Maybe I will return in the future
Get Razor HD MAXX Dev
When will that be out early 2013?

Not to mention that VZW is trying very hard to get people to dump there unlimited data plans. If they have one and are on the Bionic with JB and the 1.2Ghz bump why would they need to upgrade?

Is that because the Bionic is "supposed to" receive ICS "at some point"??? or for some other reason? (the article doesn't clearly explain)

With the phone either face up or face down, turn it 90 degrees twice quickly (the same motion used to turn a door knob). 2 seconds to launch the camera, screen on or off.

The phone should convince you, not another person's opinion of what phone you should own. If you enjoy it, keep it. If not, don't.

If it's not the Dev edition I personally would shoot for an unlock code from the China middle man. That is if you like the phone and want the full unlocked capability of android and to have a custom recovery allowing to flash and enjoy multiple roms/kernels.
Please sign our petition requesting Moto to provide the Android N update to the Moto G 2015 and Moto G Turbo. https://www.change.org/p/motorola-please-include-moto-g-3rd-gen-for-android-nougat-update
You may be wondering why I am asking other Moto owners to support the G3 and Turbo by signing our petition... We are asking Moto to simply do what they said when they released the device, by providing fast updates for 18 months and not drop support for this clearly capable device. This could easily effect all of you in the future just like Moto is trying to do to these devices if we don't call Lenovo/Moto on their clear violation of what they stated previously as if they get away with this, what is to stop them from providing updates for any other device in a far shorter time span than promised.
Part of the beauty of Moto devices was the promise of a near stock Android experience with fast updates for an 18 month period, this is one of the reasons many of us purchased these devices over other choices that were available, we should hold Moto to what they sold us on and letting them get away with not doing that now will likely mean other devices will be dropped before their time in the future.
As of this posting, we have over 680 supporters and could still use everyone's support.
I thank you in advance for your assistance. Feel free to share this link in any appropriate group or community you chose.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has signed the petition... We have exceeded the 1000 signature milestone and received confirmation this be a featured story on at least major Android news outlet in the coming days.
I am still requesting everyone to actively sign the petition.
Again, thank you.
