Hello all,
I have a VZW Moto X Dev Edition running stock 4.4.2. I'm rooted and currently have TWRP 2.6.3.1 as my recovery. I can access the recovery by doing adb reboot recovery or by telling Titanium Backup to reboot into recovery (I assume these are the same basic thing) and it works just fine, but if I tell the bootloader to go into recovery, it just turns the phone off. It's not a huge deal right now because the phone is working fine, but it's definitely something I'd like to get working.
It was working fine before I had to reflash the stock recovery as part of the 4.4.2 update (which had the same problem, but was able to install the update just fine). Anyone else see anything like this or have any tips I might try?
Thanks!
You are using volume buttom up to select recovery and not the power button right? From bootloader screen volume down once to get to recovery and volume up to select it.

Wow, my own stupidity astounds me. Should've read the instructions on the screen, I guess. It's been a while since I've had to work in the bootloader.
Thanks man!

I was running a custom droidthorey rom and wanted to go back to stock. So I went into my recovery via cwm and wiped data, cache and divik. the went into restore and fl;ashed back to an earlier point. Everything was going fine untill I rebooted. Now I cant get away from the dual core boot up screen. Ive tried to hold the volume rockers and power button and go into my recovery from there but i guess theres nothing there cuz I wiped data. Im at work so theres not a lot I can do but I just wanted to see if anyone had an idea on what I need to do from this point.

If I hold the volume rockers it will go into the boot up menu screen
when i hold both sides of the volume rocker and hit the power button it will bring me to the boot up menu screen. but if i choose recovery a little triangle with a small android pops up. I did go into fastboot and it say ok to program, but im at work so i cant really do anything here. Anyone have any other ideas?

You're stuck till you get home bro. You have to use FXZ files to get back to stock.
Follow step 1 in this guide.

When you are at the triangle with the android, hit both volume buttons to bring up the menu. From there, you can try:
Wiping data/cache again.
Reflashing a ROM by hitting "Install update from SD card"

when I do that it worked but what i flash has to be signed. I have no way to turn off verification. any signed roms out there I can install
wipe data/factory reset is the only option
Ok if you can get into fast boot i think you are ok but you have to use
R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R root for the BIONIC v2.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279825
follow the instructions to get back to stock with or with out root its your choice
im not really sure what these outther guys are talking about but the bootloader is locked you can only flash the stock signed rom from fastboot after that you can install bootstrap or rom manager.. let me know if this works

DEAD battery
i had the almost exact thing happen to me,,,, but the battery died and it wont engage charging..... so am i gonna have to get a new on or find some fast way to charge it? i cant even try any of the previous examples :/
I've heard of Verizon charging batteries for people but I've never tried it. There is a USB hack to charge batteries but you also run the risk of destroying your battery in the process. If it was me i would pick up an extra battery and charger, always nice to have.

My cousin asked me to install cm9 on his droid 3. Well I bricked it and it had one of those CWM recoveries where you have to boot to it from rom manager. Also the volume rockers are broken so i cant get into AP fastboot and use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339816 . Anyone know of a way to get to AP fastboot without volume rockers or another way that uses stock recovery?
EDIT: Sorry I forgot to include: the phone show motorola dual core technology but dosent advance from that screen. I can get into stock recovery, and i can get into the bootloader but cannot change the selection in the bootloader. Carrier is verizon.

To get into the AP Fastboot mode, power on while holding the "F" key on the keyboard.

While rom manager does support d3, I would advise against using it. It will just cause problems. Safestrap is the way to go on the d3

Hi,
After updating to 4.2.2 I rooted my Xperia by ibtimes.co.uk/articles/484784/20130630/xperia-z-root-android422-jellybean-locked-bootloader.htm manual. And after successful rooting and installing some root apps I decided to install CWM recovery to backup my system. I installed the recovery following androidteen.com/sony-xperia-z-install-clockworkmod-cwm-recovery-with-locked-bootloader manual. Everything went nice and smooth and I entered the recovery mode (by pressing Vol Up while LED was green during booting) and made a backup (btw is that a nandroid backup?). The problem is that I can enter the recovery only once after "flashing" the phone with CWM. Any combination of volume keys, power key or LED will not let me enter it again later. Can anyone guide me how to enter to recovery mode anytime or fix this problem so I can use my backup if needed?
Thank you in advance!

Hey, i use to have this issue with the Z so i just installed this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606 that should always let u into recovery, when the phone vibrates and the led goes green hold up. Yeah a backup is a nandroid backup. If you cant get that to work ill try help out further.
When exiting recovery did you answer the question with 'yes'? If so that's the problem. You have to answer no or have to flash a patch by doomlord.

There is no question when I exit recovery. The only option to exit recovery is reboot now (atleast I guess). What patch are you talking about? Could you provide me some link pls.
Well the dualboot is definitely last resort but I would rather fix this CWM issue :/
Yeah this happened to me also, you need to use the dual recovery instead

I don't see the point of a dual recovery. That recovery itself already contains CWM and add TWRP. What would I need 2 recoveries? There should be a way how to make CWM work somehow. Hmmm :/

Nobody seems to be maintaining the older releases of the recoveries for locked bootloaders. This is a known issue with them on 4.2.2 firmwares.
Just install the dual recovery and use only CWM recovery. You will literally notice no difference.

I've got the same problem.
so... I installed XZ Dual Recovery AND the zip file.... Flashed the Honami port (eXistenZ Ultra V1) and flashed the Dual recovery at the same time ( just as it says to do)
Now i can enter TWRP no problem, but when i push volume up it just sends the LED purple, and stays on the sony logo...
any one else having this problem???

Yeah my LED never turns green, it seems to turn a purplish color after the Sony logo comes up.
This is so frustrating, is there a tool similar to odin that I can use to flash back to stock?

I think I have a unique problem here. I tried to install the Holo Blur Rom using bootstrap. After I flashed it my bootup is looping and all attempts to get into Recovery mode are fail.
When I do the Power+Vol+ I get a screen with Android on it's back and the ! but nothing ever happens. I have also tried getting into the Bootstrap menu but that doesnt work either, it goes into boot up.
Do you think there is a way to save my phone still?
- Bootloader is unlocked
- Rooted
##EDIT##
I figured it out, I did not know you had to press Pwr+ Vol+ Vol- all at once. I thought it was just Pwr+ Vol+ only. Thanks!

With an unlocked bootloader, you should use CWM or Touch Recovery, nothing else as these custom roms need one or the other to install.

My friend half-bricked my moto x!

I referred all the threads.. but nothing is clear on my vision! I'll be grateful if you people direct me to the right path to restore my device!
Here is what he did...
Unlocked bootloader
installed recovery through TWRP via playstore
then installed CM Lollipop,Stuck on CM logo..bootloop
so flashed STOCK firmware for XT1052
finally stuck in warning bootloader
I have XT1052 model

Does the phone boot up normally other than the Unlocked Bootloader Warning Message? If so, you're just fine. Anytime the Bootloader is unlocked, that warning message just comes up every time you boot up your phone. There is a way to get it off but right now I can't think of where I found it. You can definitely Google it and you'll find your answer there.

That's the problem here! it doesnt bootup !!
Stuck at Warning Bootloader.. !!
And yeah already googled it..there is a way to remove the Bootscreen for warning message!
You can boot in recovery mode to restore your rom.
If you lose TWRP. You can flash recovery by fastboot mode.
You also can backup your phone's data to OTG usb drive by TWRP.
So, the main point is : Can you boot into fastboot mode?
Calm down!

I was just asking because it wasn't clear in your first message. No need to get all worked up over it. I got my phone all messed up a few days after I got it and thanks to some posts on this forum, I was able to get it all straightened out and it doesn't take too terribly long to do it either.
Try following this link to see if you can get your phone out of its funk. This is one that I found doing a quick search on this site. You said that your phone was a XT1052 model right? The URL is http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/stock-recovery-4-4-4-xt1052-t2945946.
Hope that this helps you out. There's another link that was a life saver for me. I'll post it once I find it.

I think this is nothing serious. This has happened to me a couple of times when I was testing my ROMs before for the Desire X and Desire Z. It's just, maybe there's just nothing to boot (correct me if I'm wrong). Just try following this dude's guide on how to return to stock maybe it would help you to get your phone back up and running. Good luck!

Now I have no idea about what you can do about getting your battery to charge up. Have you tried charging this up on different outlets to see if it may be the outlet that you're plugging it into? There are times that I've had charging issues with my phones because of the outlet I was using.
Too bad this phone has a non-removable battery or I would tell you to get a new battery and see if this helps solve some of your issues. To me, it looks like a call in to Motorola's tech support may be in order. Now one thing that they will ask you and you really need to make sure you've done this is "Are you using the charger that came with the phone?" That's the first thing that they'll have you do and if you've already done that, you can honestly tell them yes when they ask you about that. Also, how long have you had this phone? If it's been less than a year, it may be under warranty if your phone is a developer edition. If you have a developer edition phone, unlocking the bootloader does NOT void the warranty. It only voids the warranty on the non-developer edition phones.
Just some information that you may need when you call tech support. Hope that this helps you out.

Im using stock charger only!
now powering it in FASTBOOT... its been an hour again...still indicates battery low!
Thanks for your help all of you!
Twrp will charge the phone while you're in recovery and to flash cm 12.1 or 12 try booting cm11 then dirty flash cm12 and it should boot for you
the problem is when i select recovery it comes back to warning screen''
so to flash anyother recovery.. first i need to charge up..because it doesnt allow to flash in cmd...and in AP FASTBOOT it shows battery is low!

Hold down the power and down volume buttons for about 30 seconds. When you release both buttons this should bring you to a bootloader screen where you have choices like normal boot, boot recovery and the like. Hook the phone to a computer via usb and with adb on that computer flash twrp to the phone...
Fastboot flash recovery twrpfilename.img
Once that is flashed you should be able to go into recovery and get into twrp which will allow the phone to charge
It MIGHT even charge from that bootloader screen I never tried
thanks for that idea dude!
but it doesnt flash...it tells ..flash failure because of low battery
then i tried charging in fastboot!
doesnt work
In which android version was your phone when you started? When you tried to return to stock, which version of Android did you flash?
I guess maybe you downgraded your phone which causes hard bricks.

Yes, if you power off and THEN plug the charger in, it will power back on.
Power it off by pressing and holding the power button until the screen shuts off. Then press and hold volume down, then press and hold power and hold them both for about 4 seconds and then release both to get into bootloader mode.
In bootloader mode, you use volume down to scroll down and then you use volume up to select. You do NOT press the power button when in bootloader mode. Are you pressing the power button when in bootloader mode? Don't do that.
Use volume down to scroll down to recovery, then press volume up to select recovery to get into recovery. Can you get into recovery?

Are you pressing the power button to select recovery? You select recovery by pressing volume up, not power. If you are pressing the power button, that is why you are not getting into recovery.
You do NOT use the power button when in bootloader mode. You use volume down to scroll and volume up to select.

If battery is too low, buy a Motorola factory cable, adapter, or make your own. It will allow the phone to be powered while in fastboot to flash.
