[Q] Motorola Assist Driving Nag - Moto X Q&A

Ever since the most recent Motorola Assist update I get a constant Notification Nag that I need to turn GPS on for driving assist to work. I am fully aware of that and use taker to turn on GPS when my car bluetooth attaches. Can anyone give any insight into how to make this notification stop? Is there an Xposed module that addresses this or any other way to use assist and driving but not be nagged?

Just leave GPS on. It's only in use when an app calls for it so it does not affect battery life...unless you have a bunch of apps that constantly update based on location. You don't have to worry about turning it on and off when you need it.....enabling it on your device only provides access to it from your apps (driving assist, maps, etc..), it doesn't turn it on and it just runs non-stop.

I've just unchecked the "notifications" box in the Assist app info, that solves it for me. If you don't care about it displaying the current profile in the status bar it'll fix ya fine

[Q] Tasker turn on GPS in 2.3.3?

Hey ya's.
I've just discovered a problem I was having and was wondering if there's a way around it. Since going to GB I'd offhand noticed that when I opened my navigation apps, or golfshot my tasker profile to turn on GPS wasn't turning it on.
I deleted the profile the other day and started a new one, but when I was setting the task to turn on the GPS when these apps are started I got a message from Tasker that Google has disabled the ability for the gps to be turned on with the apps and that they require the user to in fact turn on the gps themselves.
I find this annoying as I've never had to think about the gps myself, it just went on and off with the apps thanks to good old Tasker.
Don't suppose anyone knows a fix for this or maybe with the heads up someone will go looking? Won't be me 'cause I can't do ****.......
But I can hope someone will find a way.
Android 2.3+ doesn't let apps toggle GPS. This restriction can only be removed by flashing a custom ROM

Wifi sleep/always on

Ok, It seems WP7 won't set wifi to 'always on' unless the device is plugged in. This drives me nutts when using htpc remote apps on my phone and just seems like an obvious feature to build in to the OS. I understand MS's 'battery life' reasoning initially, but there should be an easy way for power users to manipulate this setting...amirite??
Has anyone found a way/hack/regedit to manually set this? Or maybe a lesser known app floating about the interwebz you might care to share with us
Thanks,

I add my voice to yours. Such a simple yet needed feature that needs to be addressed.
download the latest versionof skype from the marketplace, open tthe app and set up yr acccount, make a call, and minimise the app ...
the wifi will stay on
when u move away from the wifi area and try to make a call to skype, skype starts to use 3G and the wifi will turn off ( back to default behaviorur)

[Q] Assist/Car Mode doesn't seem to do anything

I have a Verizon Moto X and generally love the phone. There is one aggravation that I haven't been able to figure out, and looking within this forum or across the Internet hasn't helped. Basically, Assist won't read incoming texts or the CallerID for incoming calls. Doesn't matter if I'm connected to bluetooth or not.
Likewise, when I put my phone in the "official" Griffin car dock, I get the "driving mode" symbol in the notification bar and the phone shows me a dreamscape. I don't get any "driving mode" screen, or see any useful function.
Am I missing something here? Is there some actual functionality associated with driving mode? And is there some trick to getting Assist to actually read out what it's supposed to read out?
For me (AT&T Moto X), Moto Assist works great. I only have sleeping mode and driving mode enabled. Driving mode appears to be based on the location sensors. Assuming you have the location settings enabled (no tin foil hat here), the device seems to go to driving mode whenever it detects you traveling fast enough to be in a car. Walking / Jogging do not trigger it.
Whenever I am driving, the Moto X is connected to my car's Bluetooth system, and when I receive a text message, it says: "<contact> sent you a message. Say "listen" to listen to the message." You say "listen" and it says "<contact> said <message>."

Not on mine. It resolutely refuses to read anything out loud using Assist. Doesn't seem to matter if it's connected to bluetooth or not.
Mine doesn't work, I just disabled it.
Internet connection?
I would't be suprised if this relied highly on assisted GPS which requires internet connection from time to time. Do you have mobile data enabled?
Also Google Geofences API usually does not work without internet connection, and the functionality there is very similar.
FYI: Mine doesn't seem to work either, but I don't have data plan, so can't test it

Do you have location services enabled? Are you on the latest firmware from Verizon? You should be on "139.15.1.ghost_verizon.Verizon.en.US" (Source)

Verizon? Same as jldeitch?
Location services are up and working. Latest firmware confirmed. But no talking texts. Sigh.
I've had the Moto X for six days now, and I was disappointed that the first time I turned on Moto Assist while driving it didn't read an incoming text to me.
However, I think that it comes down to the sensors and whether or not it believes that you're driving. In that first time that I tried it, I was driving relatively slowly through a residential area with lots of stop signs. I don't think that the Moto X actually determined that I was driving. The second time I tried it, I was driving on a highway; when I had my passenger send a text to me, it worked like a charm.
Last night I was in stop and go traffic during rush hour on that same highway and I received a number of texts that were not read to me because the Moto X didn't detect that I was driving.
It would be nice to have an "I'm driving; read all texts to me regardless of speed" mode, but it doesn't look like you get that on the phone (though perhaps you might with a car dock).
Does it only work with contacts?

[Q] Android Auto, appointments on home screen

Hi all I have a Pioneer AVIC-F70DAB with a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 connected.
It seems to be working OK but I am having trouble using it to navigate to appointments in my calendar. The issue is that I'm not seeing my appointments on the home screen consistently.
Can anyone explain what the criteria are for an appointment to be displayed in the aa home screen please?
For instance, does location need to be on on the phone?
Does it need a data/network connection etc. ?
I can get appointments to display but it's usually after I have arrived, which isn't much use
Any help appreciated.
The criteria for Now stuff showing up on AA are fuzzy and undefined. Locations we don't want end up there with no way to remove them I think.
In general, AA and it's associated apps want Internet access full time.
Maps/Navigation in particular want Internet while in use. Maps outside of AA has some better offline capabilities now, but AA navigation still very much "desires" it.
Thanks Mikereidis, I think I'm being too impatient with it ?. If I turn location services on and wait a while they seem to appear. Bit of a pain if i want to get in the car and head off but at least I can get it working now ?

Make Tasker restart GPS when fix is lost

Hey there,
I am having some problems with GPS of my phone. Sometimes I lose my GPS fix, typically when driving in an unknown area and relying on satnav.
What helps is to disable high precision location in quick settings and re-enable it.
So I thought this could be automated. If fix is lost, disable and enable GPS again.
Secure settings can do that, but I have problems getting a Tasker profile reacting properly to that state.
I tried querying the %LOCACC variable, (LOCACC < 5) but that didn't do it.
Any ideas?
Cheers, toskala
Any way to quick restart GPS?
I use Android Auto and at first signal didn't work, then I should enter the settings, turn GPS on and of on his high accuracĂ˝ mode, then all works OK
A reliable way to manipulate location mode on 6.0 (marshmallow) and up is by using the tasker AutoTools plugin.

Hi everyone, does anyone can give a clue on how to track down GPS FIX =YES/NO from tasker?
I have the same q as topic starter.
Location accuracy variable is no help here as it is not reset once fix is lost but gps remains on (last known accuracy is stored)
solution found!
Tasker: read GPS FIX status (TRUE/FALSE) or #of Sats. in the fix
groups.google.com
Hi everyone,
I've read the above mentioned solution however I'm new to tasker and have therefore difficulties interpreting it.
My aim with tasker is, if gps fix is lost, to issue some task like dimm the screen of my android headunit when a tunnel is entered and restore brightness when tunnel is left.
First of all I would create a new profile with an event (gpx fix lost) and start then a task (lower brightness). outgoing task is e.g. restore brightness.
What is then the condition in the profile section of tasker and how can I use the solution above, respectively.
thanks in advance!
