Hello,
I have the HTC One, rooted, Super-CID, S-OFF running SinLessROM GPe v6.4.0.
Today I noticed that the compass is not working. The compass stays constantly in the north direction and Smart Tools shows a message that there is no compass or that it is not working correctly.
Google Maps or Ingress also don't provide compass functionality. Could this be a software/ROM problem or is it likely that my compass is broken on hardware side?
I already restarted the phone. What can I do?
Thanks
Christian
I upgraded to SinLessROM GPe 6.5.0 with full wipe, but still no compass detected from Smart Tools. Google Maps and Ingress also no compass after upgrade.

I'm having problems with the premium navigation app on my IS. I activated it and it worked very well and I should still have another couple of weeks of trial but it has stopped working. It finds my destination then a popup appears & says my route cannot be calculated. It's not a gps hardware issue as google maps and Igo both work perfectly. Strange. Anyone have any experience or ideas about this?
Did you recently download new maps?
Reinstall the htc locations from the settings.
Compass in Maps not working and Compass Apps showing wrong directions a little
Tried Stock Gingerbread ROM and Zeus ROM
Same problem..
Any solution ?

¿Have you tried using it whit GPS activated?
yes, but not working
This app has compas calibration, it may help
Apparently there is a problem with the compass in version 6 of Google Maps on Gingerbread.
To solve this issue I installed Google Maps 5.12 from an apk.
Did it work without any issues ?

I'm using Zeus 6.39 (v20n).
Installing Google Maps 5.12 resolves the "missing compass" issue.
The accuracy of the compass, and of the GPS in general, I'm not so sure. I haven't tested properly yet, but my initial impression is that GPS + compass worked better in the stock Froyo I was using before. It's a pity, because for the rest this Zeus rom seems great. I'm considering reverting to Froyo.
After some more testing: I can't get GPS and the compass to work properly in Zeus 6.39 and 7. I get a fix quite fast, but the current location is skipping from here to there to the point where it's completely useless for navigation, and the compass is sometimes working, but more often way off. Calibration doesn't really help. I tried various fixes for GPS as well, but to no avail.
It seems it's a general problem with Gingerbread and the (hardware of my) OB. In Froyo GPS + compass work fine on my OB.
Now trying Nova 8 (Froyo ROM). GPS works fine there.
Same on my OB. I found CM7 based ROMs are better in GPS, but best solution for me was to buy cheap bluetooth GPS module. On Froyo I also had no problems.
Hi, I am having issues with offline gps on my sprint m7. The thing is when I set the location mode device only (use gps to determine your location) and open an offline map app like GPS nav&maps it says "no position found". I had the same problem with other apps like maps with me. I am running stock android 4.4 with sense 6.0. Is there any way to fix this issue? It is very annoying since the gps won't work outdoors or indoors. Thanks!
Would the XT1060 users running CM12 please check the function of the compass (magnetometer) over a period of minute or so?
You can use apps like GPS Status or any of the compass apps in the play store.
Is the compass stuck on North at first even if the phone is not pointing north?
Does the compass start to work if you calibrate it in the compass software and then start to slowly spin a minute or so later.
I'm told the XT1053 compass works fine and am trying to figure out if I'm the only XT1060 user whose compass works correctly on the stock VZW ROM but not on CM12 (or CM11.)
Thanks for any replies from XT1060 users!
Hi All,
I have a brand new Z1 from China.
I had Android 4 something. I have user USB cable and PC Companion to flash the latest system 5 something.
To be honest with you I have not tested compass on the previous system, but the device is not even detected in Service Menu.
I can see that gyroscope is working fine, but compass is like non existent.
I have noticed that first when I could not use my Google Navigation. I thought that it will work using GPS coordinates, but compass seems to be one of the essential components of this software and there is no backup engine.
Please advise what should I do next as this is weird. I have a Motorola Goto and this phone works flawlessly comparing to surprises I have with Xperia.
Thank you

yea i dont think the xperia z1 has a compass, i brought mine like that, i try to go to google maps and the nav arrow dosent show up, only blue dot, i assumed that google removed the blue arrow. even using various testing apps nothing works no compass testers or calibrators work. and even on miui v7 the compass app dosent even move

Thank you for your answer.
In all the specs I have checked it is showing that the compass is included and sensor-wise it is not different from Motorola I have both were released roughly in the same time.
I come across a forum discussion where people say that they lost compass after upgrade from Android 4 to 5 possibly due to firmware issue.
