[Q] Bluetooth Volume Control Issues - Moto X Q&A

I have noticed recently that when I am connected to a Bluetooth speaker (I have seen this with my Jawbone Big JamBox, my Sony DT1300 Home Theater Amp, and my JayBird BlueBuds X) that the volume controls go completely crazy.
If I press volume down, on either the device or the phone (unified volume control) the volume goes down like normal.
If I press volume up, on either the device or the phone (unified volume control) the volume ALSO goes down. Watching the volume display on he phone as it happens reveals the volume slider stepping up one level, then slipping back down to a position slightly lower than it was initially. Repeated presses of volume up drive the volume down further to the point where sound becomes muted.
Since this is happening with three COMPLETELY different bluetooth devices (A desktop speaker, a headset, and a Home Theater System) and this is NOT happening when I connect using my Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1, I can only assume something on the Moto X is to blame.
Any ideas?

This issue was introduced in 4.4 (an Android issue), and affected both my Moto X and my Nexus 4. 4.4.2 fixed it on the Nexus 4, but it seems a reasonable assumption that the Moto X is not using the exact same BT stack as the Nexus in 4.4.2. Frustrating!
Gotta love Android!

Did you ever make any progress on figuring this out? I also have the Big Jambox and saw the crazy volume behavior, but dismissed it. Then, I got the Kinivo BTC450 and got something even weirder!!!
Starting from lowest bluetooth volume to highest (using buttons on the phone):
can't hear -> can't hear -> can almost hear -> almost there -> can't hear -> can almost hear -> almost there -> too loud -> too loud
The slider behaves normally, not jumping down when it should be going up; but the volume is all over the place. This behavior is present when pushing the volume up or down, unlike the Jambox issue on volume up. I haven't reached out to Motorola on this.

Persist+ works for me but I do not have all the gizmos

Any way to lock the ringtone volume to one level?

I recently migrated from the iPhone 4S to the N3.
So far, I'm liking most of the features.
However, the one thing that does bother me is that the ringtone volume is directly tied to the media level.
Is there anyway to isolate the ringtone volume so that when I increase/decrease the system volume via the rocker, the ringtone volume remains constant? Starting in iOS 6, this was allowed on the iphone. Please don't tell me that this is something ONLY iPhone can do.
Thanks in advance.

When you press the volume up or down key, tap the settings key right next to the pop-up and it will show the other volume levels.

Not sure your software version, but my volume button controls only the ringer unless a game or some other form of media is running, then it controls that media but not the ringer. The only time I notice it affecting the ringer is if in the case of a game and I try to adjust before the game is fully loaded. If you watch you see a phone icon or a speaker on the slider. If you try to adjust for media too soon you will notice the slider is still showing the phone instead of the speaker for media.

[Q] Volume Issues

I've been having some volume issues since I got my Moto X. When I first got it, the touch sounds used to go extremely loud all of a sudden even though the [Music, video, games, & other media] volume wasn't at the max, I used to just adjust it and then it would go to the desired volume again. This was while on 4.2.2.
After I upgraded to 4.4, this stopped happening, but I started having another issue. When I answer a call, the [Music, video, games, & other media] volume goes down to the lowest position. After hanging up, it shows that it went back to it's original position but sometimes when I go to check, I find out that it's still at its lowest position and have to increase it manually.
Also, one time, the volume of the whole phone went extremely low even though all volumes were at their highest positions. I had to reboot the phone to get proper volume again.
Is anyone else having such issues?
Thanks

[HELP] Bt Volume Sync

Hey guys, i bought a Mi a2 recently and i have only two worries about it.
1 - I miss moto fingerprint actions (lock the screen) and gesture actions (chop-chop and turn to open camera) [I owned a moto z play 1gen]
2 - (the main reason for opening this thread) Bluetooth Volume and Media Volume don't sync :'(
Explaining better:
When i pair my JBL Reflect Mini 2 on the MI A2 and try to raise the media volume through bt headset buttons, the media volume still the same and the bt volume says that reach the maximum volume. I have to raise volume directly through phone buttons.
When i pair the headset on my older MZP, the bt buttons work as they should do.
I already got sure that Absolute Volume is unchecked (and checked-unchecked a million times) and i don't know what to do next (except ask for help :'( )
I have the same problem

Question Media Volume Limit - after reboot, settings ignored, bluetooth volume lowered

The issue is that I set my S21 Ultra to max volume for bluetooth devices. The phone remembers this setting during use. But after a reboot, the phone reduces the volume when playing over bluetooth.
When connecting to the very same bluetooth device after a reboot, the volume is very quiet.
This behavior seems to ignore the media volume limit settings, two different settings and both are ignored:
1) Turn off media volume limit
This doesn't work because the phone still reduces volume to bluetooth devices after a reboot, and continues to behave as though media volume limit is turned on.
2) Turn on media volume limit, but set custom volume limit to maximum
This doesn't work because the phone still reduces volume to bluetooth devices after a reboot, and continues to behave as though media volume limit is turned on.
I feel as though most people stopped paying attention to this bug because they don't reboot their phones very often, and the issue shows up after a reboot. However I prefer to reboot the phone every night at 3:00 am.
FYI this is particularly frustrating for use in a car, because I toggle between radio (listen to talk radio shows) and bluetooth (listen to podcast), so when you set the car's volume for listening to the radio, it's unusable when you toggle to bluetooth and can't hear the phone very well. For car radio and bluetooth to be heard at the same levels, the phone needs to have it's media volume set to max. But after a reboot the phone lowers the phone's media volume despite any settings in the media volume limit controls.

Settings>System>Developer options>Disable absolute volume
Try turning that on. It might solve your problem.

Thanks. My car is from 2012 and it doesn't support absolute volume. I had the same issue with my Galaxy S9+ until Samsung finally patched it.
I think they are just including the same bug with the S21 Ultra, where settings for Media Volume Limit are ignored after a reboot, and the phone forces the volume setting lower.
Just to be sure, I've followed your suggestion and toggled the developer setting on for the disable absolute volume, because I dislike that feature anyway. Unlike my car that doesn't support it, my bluetooth headset supports bluetooth absolute volume and I dislike how it works.
I'll reboot the phone and test it out in a couple hours when I go driving, to see if the phone again lowers the bluetooth volume and post an update.

No, this did not help. Absolute volume is disabled, and I connected to my car and set the phone's volume to max.
But after a reboot, as before, when my phone connects to the car via bluetooth, the phone decreases its volume as though media volume limit is kicking in.
As for settings, my phone has the media volume limit toggled on, and the custom volume limit set to maximum. So the volume is being changed to lower than maximum, approximately 2/3 setting. So the phone is not respecting the media volume limit setting with the custom volume limit.
As mentioned earlier, I can also turn off the media volume limit, but get the same frustrating behavior where after a reboot, when I connect to a bluetooth device, the phone will lower its own volume setting to 2/3.
It just seems like a bug where the phone always uses a hard-coded 2/3 media volume limit, and disregards the on/off setting for media volume limit, and also disregards the custom volume limit.
Can anyone else actually try this with their phone to confirm it's a bug? The issue happens after you reboot, and connect to a bluetooth audio device. The full volume setting is maintained so long as you haven't rebooted since setting the volume level.
I'm still on the April firmware, T-mobile, so I'm really hoping the May update will address this bug.
Does anyone else see a different behavior?
Will your phone always reduce the volume and prevent max volume, after you reboot and connect to a bluetooth device for audio output?
Use Bixby Routines to set the BT volume to max whenever you connect to your car.
I have a routine for when it connects my car that keeps the phone unlocked, sets media volume to max, and starts playing music.
Doesn't fix the bug but it's not a concern after doing this.
Also I don't see the point in rebooting your phone daily...
Reboots always lowers my volume but I raise it on my Phone to max and it remains that way when on the Bluetooth headphones then control volume via the headset not the phone.
Is there a way to report this bug to Samsung?
It's a bug because the phone ignores it's own settings after a reboot. The settings are obeyed during use only after you've manually increased the volume upon first connecting. This bug was in the S9+ phone, until Samsung finally fixed it. Now they just need to fix the bug for the S21 Ultra.

How to fix low call volume?

I recently received a Pixel 4xl and really like the phone except the call volume is a lot lower than other phones I have had. I have to press it up to my ear to be able to hear the other person. The volume is already set to the max. Is there a way to make this louder? The phone is not rooted, but will root if that is what it takes to fix the volume.
Thanks!
Mine is fine with the headset, but I had a similar bug with my pixel buds and maybe it's related.
While on a call. Press the volume up button, then while the volume slider is on the screen, slide the volume down and then slide it back up. You'll notice it's much louder. You can also try pressing volume up and then slide it down with your finger on the slider, then use the buttons to turn it back up.
I only had to do this once and then in call volume was fine after that.
For some reason it got stuck in some sort of limit where the ceiling wasn't really the ceiling.
Other than that, you can try factory reset. If not that, then it could be some sort of hardware issue.
