[Q] Plastic on back - LG G Flex

Ok so I pulled off the AT&T button location sticker, stickers on the side, IMEI sticker, and button stickers. Is there one big sticker over the whole back or is that just how this device looks? It almost looks like I could peel off a big sticker, but I can't quite tell. I can't get ahold of anything.

Yea It's just the layer of self healing material. It def does look like you can peel it off though haha.

Thanks. I tried to peel it off. Didn't work I had thought the reviews made it sound more matte rather that super glossy so I was confused.

[DIY] Rubberized soft touch battery door

I love my Nexus S. Yes, the build quality is plastic, yet anything but cheap. I've seen a lot of compliments on the slick back cover (battery door). However, it's not to my taste. I find it to be overly reflective, a fingerprint magnet, and slippery to the point where I would drop my phone if it were not for the reverse chin.
Solution: DIY Soft touch battery door (rubberized back cover)
I simply applied four thin layers of spray on black PlastiDip. As in the instructions, make sure to shake the can thoroughly for a full minute and keep the can of PlastiDip a full 12-16 inches from the back cover of the phone. Wait a full 30 minutes between coats. Make sure to spray all the way around the edge of the battery door into the back of the cover. If you do not coat the edge your coating will eventually begin to peel at the edge. The easiest method is probably to mask off the contacts for the NFC antenna and spray the entire cover, inside and out. That way there is no rubber seam to peel at the edge.
Here are the results. I think the images phone2.jpg and phone3.jpg most accurately show the results. The closeups tend to make the cover look more textured than it actually appears.
PlastiDip is easily peeled off if you start at an edge, but difficult to peel off unintentionally. If I ever get bored with the finish or want to sell the phone I can remove the rubber within seconds.
yeah i used this for my galaxy S, pretty good idea actually lol
I like it. Did you sand before painting? If so what grade? Thanks in advance.
No sanding required. Just a thorough cleaning with water then spray on PlastiDip.

I dont think any sanding is needed because it simply peels off.
Is plastidip messy? because I'm gonna try this when I get home but it 20F outside and Im not wait thirty mins between coats in such weather lol. So I hope its doable in the house. However when I do mine I might put tape over the Google logo and peel it off after all dry and clean because I dont wanna lose that, I could careless about the samsung tho lol
Whats great is you dont need to sand and ruin the cover and simply peels off.
Thanks for sharing think im going to try this, might do clear color

But what about other cases or the front of the phone? You can't fit a regular cases now or any sort of holster. How is it in the pocket?

Even with four thin coats, it doesn't add enough bulk to prevent another case from fitting on the phone. For the screen, I use a Zagg for now until something better comes out. As for the feel in the pocket it is a little tacky. It doesn't slide in and out of the pocket as smoothly as I'd like, but in my opinion it's a necessary trade off. I still prefer the rubberized back.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
But what happens if you put a holster/case on? Won't it degrade the rubber?
What about the NFC chip? this is what worries me about the Nexus S, the NFC relies on this "cheap, plastic" cover... The NFC chip needs to be within centimeters of the other object's NFC chip. Wouldn't this interfere? Anyone try after applying a case or using this rubberized method?
This coating doesn't add centimeters of thickness to the back, so it should be fine.
Just make sure u hold can 12"-16" from cover I was too close on my first coat so I sprayed too much on there. But it looks fine

Many thin layers works best. Also, you have to make sure the rubber on the sides is as thick as the back, and spray it all the way around the lip of the battery door. If you don't coat around the edge into the inside of the battery door your rubber will eventually begin to peel at the edge.

I'm using a leather flip case for mine that I bought from ebay
Does any one use those plastic rubber coated hard covers (like those in the picture)?
And are they any good?
i am using it...the black one...its very good. But, it's not particularly good, because if I want to put it in my pocket, it just does not go particularly smoothly, it is still silicone. But otherwise, quite good.

ebay
you can find LG cases from ebay. There are plenty of types and all optimized for our model.
just look for LGT GT540 + type of case you are looking for.
Over the years have used lots of different cases and pouches, silicon, leather, velvet, hardplastic, and rubber had them all, and most where pretty crappy. But now bought a tpu (Thermoplastic Polyurethanes) case from ebay, and its just great makes the phone much more solid without loss of usability. doesnt protect the screen when in my pocket. but have a screenprotector for that. Only had to cut out a little piece around usbport so original usb cable would fit
leather type flap screen cover from Amazon two pounds seventy nine pence. Bargain...d
MY ANDROIDSKY
TPU covers are by far the best. Silicone are rubbish.
I bought a rubber/silicone one off ebay, for $5. Absolutely awesome. Covers everything that needs to be covered, and nothing that doesn't. It covers everything but screen, buttons, speaker and usb port. It has raised bumps where the volume, camera, and search buttons are so you can find them under the cover. I also got a nice thick screen protector. I can drop my phone from 10ft without any problems. Also, I live in China where there are a lot of pickpockets. The rubber case provides some resistance when it is in my pocket, which makes it alot more difficult to steal.
Got a leather case off ebay.

(Q) Galaxy note 2 rubberised back?

Loving my note 2 but I find it slippery to hold and a pain to prop up against things as it just slides away from anything you lean it up against. I know there are big rubber cases available but I was wondering if anyone has come across a rubberised replacement back to give me the added grip without the extra bulk of a case.
Any ideas to improve this lack of grip without adding a bulky case?

and when I put it in the case, I removed the back cover.
It's barely thicker. Maybe half a mm.

Ive had a look a the nilkin case looks ok but I think its a harder rubber almost plastic. Im after a grippy soft rubber what would be perfect is a back cover which has the same feel as the battery cover on a sky tv remote. The skinomi looks interesting

You are correct, it's pretty plasticy. It's a single layer - pretty simple case, no frills.
And yes, I lose NFC. If I ever come into a situation where I ever could use it, then I might start to care. So far, I don't.

You could plasticoat the back yourself, or use a textured vinyl.

Chunology that case seems ok but its made from hard plastic so wont have the grip im after. Yes I think texturising the back with some sort of self adhesive non slip material is the way to go... gadget grips or similar its just a shame they dont make one that fits the back of the phone perfectly like a screen cover does.
Maybe a gap in the tech market!

I ordered some regular black plastidip, should arrive on monday, I'll let you know how it works.
Plastidip is overpriced in the UK for some reason though. It's about $6 a can in the US and about £16 a can in the UK :/
The Zagg/Best Skins ever, body guards clear protective skins have a rubbery feel and offers improved grip over the shiny plastic.
this case is idential to nikkin without the logo.

Yeah let me know how the plastidip works. Im interested to know if it peels off easily. Ive now bought a hybrid case very similar to the one posted above in that ebay link. Im fairly happy with it mines white hard plastic slim not bulky and it has a rubberised coating on it plus mine was only £3.90 on ebay . I found the rubber coating felt slippery when it was new but ive had it a week now and the grip seems to be improving.

Elago slim fit case w/rubber grip

I bought the elago case off amazon for $10. Great slim fit case except no grip.
So I went to Home depot and bought a can of black tool handle grip spray. Taped case, scuffed where I wanted spray to stick with scotch brite pad and sprayed.
Now slim and grippy but not thick. It still slides in and out of pocket with ease.
Spray with thin coats every 30 mins untill desired amount. If you spray to heavy let dry and rub off with hand or scrapper. I speed dried with heat gun. Screwed up and to thick 1st time but perfect the 2nd.
Anyway thought I'd share with anybody looking for slim with grip case make you own.
Fyi, I only found black but they make yellow, blue and white I think..

Hi....same problem with the elago case.....has anyone else sprayed theirs? I would like to know from the original poster or anyone else who has done this if the rubber comes off, and damages clothes, gets on hands, is messy, etc. thanks so much....sounds like a smart idea!
Plastidip is the right stuff. I have done this a bunch to many different items. I sprayed the back plate of my note 2 because I like to use bumper cases. This gives it some grip. Like the op said, just use thin coats. If you don't like it, it just peels off when it's dry. It does rub off of the back plate after a while, but it is so easy to do again.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
Sounds great! Will work on it tomorrow! Thanks so much for your reply!
Yes, thin coats and tape off the inside of case as close to edge as possible.
I went to pepvoys and found a can of trunk bed liner like rhimo liner which works better and hasn't faded or rubbed off. It sprayed thick but levels out nicely. Take precaution to any runs or drips on edges and with flat edge run along to cut drip and it should level out. I did just the outer sides

You definitely need to setup up lil spray area jig for case. I have kinda spray shop in my garage but basically just postisioned on 2 spray can lids and walked around spraying lightly. Waiting about 10-15 mins to recoat maybe less depending on room temps. Just keep eye on any would be drips and run them off with flat edge. I bought 3 elgo cases so I was afraid to F one up. I hate how the metal plate could potentially come into contact with the screen. You grab it wrong and could push the flap sliding it over the screen, the metal plate will scratch the gorilla glass.

This can't be true. It would depend on so many factors such as the specific metal, the shape of the metal where it comes into contact (a point, an edge, a curve..), the force of contact, etc. Gorilla glass isn't some mystical impervious material.
---------- Post added at 10:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:40 AM ----------
Just received my ultra-slim Moko. For $6 it's nice but I really wouldn't recommend it for a few reasons.
1) As mentioned before, the metal piece on the cover could potentially come in contact with your screen and scratch it.
2) When closed, the cover slides around. This is very obnoxious when you are walking around with your tablet in one hand. Basically, if you hold it vertical, the cover slides up while the tablet slides down from its weight. Over time this is just going to get worse as the cover loosens.
3) I'm having lots of trouble making it stand up in both positions and stay put. The triangle fold does not hold, I think due to poor choice of the size of each edge of the triangle. Maybe with time it will get better but it hasn't so far.
Overall this thing is just flimsy, although it does look and feel nice to the touch.
