This is something I've wanted 2 ask many times over but just keep forgeting to, has anyone else noticed that when u launch task-killer app it usually shows several other app running that either u know u didn't start or for the most part can't see them running or don't even know if one would be dependant on the other...ex, pushed taskiller to find gallery, alarm, browser, taskiller, messaging and contacts all running, now this is 20 minutes after initial boot but haven't started not one thing yet...any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanx, veritas

Most of those are system processes that even if you shut down they will restart. Taskkiller is mainly for like.. shutting down programs like SNESoid or Barcode Scanner.
I've been using DROIDs since DROID 1, then X, and now Bionic.
I have the issue on my Bionic: I'll get a notification that an App has an update. When I select the app from my notification pane, it opens Android Market and takes me to the My Apps view. However, no apps display as needing updates. (Yes, I'm sure it's a notification to update an app and not the notification that an app has been updated (auto updates)).
I can go through all my downloaded apps and none of them show as "updateable." Sometimes it displays, that there are more than one (like 3) apps that have an update, but again, when I go to My Apps, I can't find any app that has an update - there is no update button only Open and Uninstall.
Has anyone else seen or heard of this issue?
Have you changed the LCD density at all? That gives me various problems. I always have to grab an older version of the market place to update.

I know what you're talking about. I've found when that happens, it's usually tied to a system app or a preinstalled app, such as Gmail, YouTube, or Zumocast.
Annoying.

I concur, I had the issue as well and updating the pre-installed crapware seemed to remedy the issue.
This has been happening to me as well, and it's not always system apps. Yesterday I had the notification in the morning, with no app showing up to be updated. However, I checked the market later last night, and Swiftkey X was showing up. (I had read that Swiftkey had an update earlier in the day, as I recalled when I saw that.)
It could be that the apps are sending notifications before they hit the market, or it could be that the market app has issues. I think it's the latter. I generally used to check the market for updates when I plug in the phone when going to bed at night, and I may start doing that again.
I hate the new market - since the last few updates (when it got its current new look, with books and movies) the market has been pretty crappy.
Same thing here. I get the notification, but there are no apps showing as having update available. If I go through the apps one by one I can usually find some with updates. I also have apps mysteriously disappear from time to time. I went to open Gentle Alarm last night and it wasnt there anymore, I re-downloaded it and it installed and all my settings were still there. Strange.
For some reason, it keeps changing from your default account to a secondary account. I have two Google accounts on my phone; one for personal and one for work. If you go into Market and then hit menu, accounts-you will notice it changed your default account. I haven't figured out why it does this-my OG never did.
Could it, in part, be due to applications that were set to auto-update?

This happened to me this morning, but changing the account showed me the applications that needed updating. If anyone knows why the account changes, I'd like to know!
I've had my VZW Moto X for a week now and I'm having trouble with the Hangouts app. Every so often when I bring up Hangouts to read a new message, it'll pop up for a brief moment then kick me back out to my homescreen. Then will continue to do so every time I try to open the app back up until I restart my phone. I've tried clearing cache, app data, uninstalling updates, but nothing fixes it without a reboot... at least not consistently. And to top it all off... because Hangouts came preinstalled, I can't completely uninstall it to try a fresh install. This has happened at least once every other day since I've gotten this phone. I was running Dalvik until yesterday when i switched to ART. Happens using both. I used Hangouts on my 2013 Moto X without ever an issue. Any suggestions?
Strange. I had hangouts fc on me once. Today actually. But it was only once and worked fine afterwards. I refuse to update to the new hangouts. They ruined it
I had the same issue for the first day or two, then the force closing stopped.
Same here but rebooting clears it up

reboot
Had this issue like 3 or 4 times on VZW as well. Only way to open the app to send a text was to reboot, very annoying...latest verzion of hangouts.
Still having this issue. Really annoying.

So I found a quicker fix than restarting the phone. If Hangouts force closes, I open the stock android messaging app for just a moment. Then, once I've backed out of it, Hangouts magically works again without a reboot. Don't know why it works... but it does... at least on my device.
I really wish I could figure out what is causing this issue... It happens at least once a day and nothing seems to be a fix that works every time.
It seems to me that every time Hangouts force closes initially, I get a notification from the Play Store for an app update. Also, when it force closes, usually Messaging will start force closing as well if I try to open it. So incredibly frustrating...

Agree fully. I have not been able to associate it with anything but it happens daily. Drives me insane.
I'm tempted to do a factory reset, but I'm afraid I'll go through all the trouble to reset everything and it'll continue to happen. Are you using the stock launcher or something else?

I'm using the Google Experience Launcher. The fact that more people aren't complaining about it leads me to believe it must be some weird conflict between a couple apps/Google services.

Yeah I need to try and remember to get a log next time I see it.
It just happened again! I really think it's somehow tied to Play Store Update notifications. Any time I'm actively using Hangouts and it crashes, I will then immediately get a notification that I have one or more updates available in the Play Store. How could these two be connected and what can I do to sever this connection? I sideloaded the updated version of the Play Store... maybe uninstall updates?

Yeah and I was finally able to do some digging. It's actually tied into contacts somehow, which I never had noticed before. When hangouts is auto-closing so will people, phone, and generating a new text message. Basically anything looking for contacts. Still not sure why though.
I think that for some reason it's tied to Play Store notifications. I've also had Hangouts crash while sending a MMS picture message. Don't know if these crash instances are related.

It's not tied to Play Store. I have no updates pending and I'm looking at the logcat.
Just go to app info and clear the data
It should work on most cases
Hello everyone
I've been having this issue with Samsung phones only when I had the note 4 with different versions of android from lollipop until now on oreo
I dont know what cause it but when I got the note 8 I did a fresh install without recovering any data from my backup
But it appeared again I did a factory rest and it was gone then it came back
I only install trusted apps but seems it's a system thing cause it only show when
Apps r either uninstalled or being updated
Pics in the attachment
Hope I get an answer coz its frustrating specially when u watch videos
I'm not rooted but developer option is enabled
Disabling it doesn't change anything
Anyone ?
So you are getting these toasts at random? The only time I see an uninstalled toast is whenever I actually uninstall an app. I have noticed with Oreo that uninstalling an app is no longer "instant", there is a delay which is annoying. Upon uninstall, the app doesn't disappear from the app drawer right away & the uninstall toast takes a while to pop up.

The uninstalled toast is normal. With past Android versions it didn't list the package name getting uninstalled but you still got a goast saying uninstalled finished.
What I don't understand is if you only get these toasts when uninstalling an app, how are you getting them while watching a video?
Luckypatcher? Cough cough.

I wanted to know if you guys know any apks for malware or antivirus. I have been getting a lot of pop ups. I installed kapersky and malware bytes but they both do anything.
pop ups when browsing and or apps? Most likely you'll need ad blocking software and or browser extension.

It seems to be ad pop ups. I would be using an app such as whatsapp or watching a video through my gallery and the add just pops up out nowhere. it has never done that before.
If you get apps from places that are not "trusted sources" many of them have these pop up ads.
Go through and we which apps have Device Admin, Accessibility, and Draw Over Other Apps permissions
Are you using stock Gallery or another app?

Personally, I do not use any antivirus on my phone. I tried some of them before but finally gave up due to the large consumption to the phone memory which results into a slowdown of system and a faster drain of power. Plus, the major drawbacks of these free AV, like Avira, Kapersky, Bitdefender and more in Top 5 Free Antivirus in 2018, are the ads and popups bundled with them. They keep sending annoying ads and pop-ups during running, and even worse, sometimes they downloaded and installed things automatically.
Thus, if you download apps from playstore, surf the safe websites and connect to a clean outside device, do not bother to install a AV on your phone.

It's one of your apps... You'll have to go through the ones you installed recently and uninstall the culprit.

so l read this thread awhile back and thought nothing of it ............ until now!
I have "developed" the same Issue! and yes Its definitely an app that has access to "appear on top" and its under Apps> special Access> apps that can appear on top! Now for me to identify the culprit......? only issue though is if you have this issue your most likely the kind of user who experiments and installs several apps at once.... so here goes my trial by elimination process?
Hi had this problem.
I deleted the free APK that I had installed but I was still getting pop ups.
You need to go to settings / apps and right at the end of the list there was a app with no name or app logo.
Deleted it, problem solved.
I tried virus scan apps and nothing found it.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice! I deleted all the apps I installed in the past week and still no success until your post! Issue was starting to really bug me cos I kinda hate the idea that I dont have control over a device I paid for....lol
For anyone in the same position, see attached images if it helps and yes I installed a dodgy APK editor which i deleted but didn't notice this culprit App in the app list!

Yeah that's exactly what I saw on my list.
No AV will block an ad. They block known, to them, malware apks. Use something like Addons Detector from G Play store and/or Nice catch from S Galaxy store to list all the apks that have ads modules and then remove those you installed last or don't recognise or need.
Run Malwarebytes.
