hey guys, i have an xperia sp LB unroted on stock 4.3 i updated from sony bridge for mac. Is the sp compatible with cards over 32gb? i would like to know as i am about to get a case and sd card as i plan on taking many pictures during my upcoming vacation and i dont know if the 64gb card will work. Thanks in advance
For many people 64gb cards work a treat on others the phone wont detect the card.
It depends on your current Rom and on the brand of your Micro SD card (For example i heard that Sandisk 64 Micro SD card work with XSP )

From what i've seen so far i would trust a Sandisk 64GB card to do the job.
so if i put a 64gb card in then go to settings>storage>sd card and it says 64gb available then it works but if it doesnt say theres a card it wont work?

If it recognizes your card there it should be no problem but after one point its just a game of chances. But i think if you partition the card to 32 and 32 gb partitions it should recongize it even if it does not when its not partitioned. (I just thought that never tried it )

Ok so i bought this verbatim microSD 16gb class4...at first it worked fine on my xperia x8...but today it just decided to not be located at all...
On my pc the card is working properly with the card reader and i tried another sd on my x8, and it worked too..but the 16gb still wont be located...i tried everything from formating it to reboot etc...i tried the 16gb one on a x10mini but no luck either...
any recommendations?
oh and the shop said that they cant do anything cause this maybe my fault
Please help...
I had the same problem with 8gb class 4.
I did like what you did.
Finally it didn't work, I returnd it back to the store.
What I understood is: class 4 sd cards are not working on our x8.
because I asked the guys here and they were answering that they have a working sd cards on x8 but with classes like 2,8,10 not 4!

but i could use it for about 2-3 days...and the same happened with an 8gb card but i dont remember of what class..
any ideas anyone?
[UPDATE]
After many experiments i found out that my card was working with thsd card adapter that SE provided once...the one that is like a usb stick...but with a MicroSD to SD adapter,my card wont be located by my pc...
[UPDATE 2]
The card is working fine on my sony ericsson yari.
also i read through the forum that others are using class 4 and its fine..so i cant see why mine wont work...come on guys..you have fixed far more complicated issues...

If the adapter you refer to is really a mSD to SD adapter then your PC would do the right thing(TM). To read a mSD you need a MicroSD to SDHC (<--!!!!) adapter.
SD, SDHC and SDXC are three totally different standards not really compatible to each other.

Then there you have your confirmation that the card is actually working.
If the X8 and X10 is refusing the card, then you may have hit a incompatibility (EDIT: that's why it is important to either straighten it out with the dealership that you can return the card in case it doesn't work or that you can try the card right there in front of the eyes of the shop dude). The only way would be to swap the card with one of another brand (like Kingston or SanDisk ... I wouldn't buy Verbatim crap).
In theory the X8 should be able to accept mSD's up to 32GB.

True, I used a 8GB Kingston Class 4 mSD with my X8 - worked flawlessly.
thnx for your reply..
my card was working in the begining..so im not sure if this is really an incompatibility...

Question is ...
- If you're running a custom ROM ... you tried another one?
- If you're running Stock ... you tried a custom ROM?
Also ... try putting the card into a _working_ mSD adapter and ERASE the partition that's on it. Then "Safely remove" the card reader / card from your PC and put the EMPTY (unpartitioned) card back into the phone. From there you have two options you can try ...
1. Try to partition and format (FAT32) the card in ClockworkMod recovery and see if it works now.
2. Boot up Android and format the card through Android (I think it's "Memory and Storage" in "Settings")
I tried with both stock and GingerDX...same result...im going to try this and post reply in some minutes..
nothing....i tried to partition with CWM..no luck....
I partitioned it with Partition Wizard..no luck again...
pfff...why it just denies to locate it?i was working just fine :S
I take CWM actually recognized the card even at its correct size.
The last thing you can do now is to look through logcat to see if the log holds any hints about why the card isn't recognized/mounted.
You better do that through adb as it's a medium pain in the rear to do that in the Terminal Emulator on the phone.
If you find something that could be related to the issue at hand post it here; maybe the error message carries something that would give a clue.
hi all ,when i 1st used a rom (any rom )there must be a friggin ton of problem ..so when i updated to GDX v21 i expected trouble, so yes it's a little buggy but i fixed / the problem just went away ..so theres just one problem which is a true , but then this problem is just presistant and i can't fix it ...=( so heres's the problem , the sd(8GB class 10 ) in my phone will say it's damage please format , so i did , but then the whole phone restarts without fixing the problem , so i tried 2 more sd card a 2gb class 6 and a 8gb class 10(?) micro SD card they all started fine but then it encountered the same problem , i faced this problem a week ago and i cant fix it , yesterday the memory was abler to be read and then today it says SD card error again.WTF??? i tried factory reset but it's still there use CWM and wipe dalvik and battery stats , no resolve i cant flash cause my sd card is dead , imma using PCC to flash my phone later but is it cause of SD card problem or isit my phone sd card reader is buggy?
details
-SE w8
-GDX v21
-MIcro SD 8GB class 10
-problem -SD card unable to read (says SD card is damaged) tried 3 diff sd card but all same
-well maybe a little off topic but my DSP manager seems to lags the phone badly when i turn on equalizer for speaker
Is your sd card kingston? I have the same problem, and found out that there is a compatibility problem with kingston 8gb.
SE claims to have solved it with an update but this is for stock rom users. So not me. I don't know if anything can be done and if any of our fantastic (slurp slurp) developers could help.

Not able to confirm again ...
There's a 8GB Kingston Class 4 in my X8 which is working perfectly fine since the last 7 months (GDX v021 on Stock Kernel).
However, as there's been another one posting about SD card problems who also has a Class 10 mSD ... I would rather say the phone seems to have a problem with Class 10 Micro SD cards ... given my Class 4 and some Class 6 (if you search the X8 section) work flawlessly.

The 2GB Class 6 _should_ work, given we have some posts around where people use a Class 6 mSD successfully.
But, as I said above, I would be cautious with Class 10 mSD's as there not only yours which gives trouble.
for some reason my phone is a magnet for trouble ...
I spoke to the guy that sold me the card and he told me to go by the store and try with either a kingston 8gb class 4 or an apacer 16gb class10 (that's what he has in store). I guess i'll try the kingston but i'll be away for a week so I'll have answers next week.

haha yea...we are really poor souls =(
damn it i tried my sister's sd card ( just to confirm my problem ) i connect it to pc and all is fine ...then i click turn off usb storage and it says blank sd card ...i guess i cant confirm it's the hardware problem
Just as a related note now that I checked back...
The other guy who had about the same SD card problems was using a Verbatim 16GB Class 4. Seems as the X8/W8 is somewhat picky when it comes to the brand (manufacturer) of a SD card and the related class.
As I wrote in that post - either try the card in your phone right there in the shop (if the clerk agrees to it) or strike a deal that you can return the card in case you have severe troubles due to compatibility issues.
as always thanks BJ! you helped me so many times! so yeah i called my dad to send it to the repairman but i doubt it's the sd card problem since the other 2 i tried also failed to read ...it could initially until i restart the phone or connect it to usb then it will get the warning..i suspect its the hardware problem

I have bought Sandisk microSDXC 64GB class 10 UHS1. When I put it in my computer using USB2.0 Kingston Mobile Reader it could not recognise it. I removed it and I placed it in my Galaxy Note. I went into clockworkmod 6.19 (Non Touch) and I partitioned the card with 2GB or 4GB (I do not remember exactly!!!) and Swap size 256k. When my phone restarted, the phone did not recognize the card. Therefore, I went through the internet to find a solution. I found the program "EaseUS Partition Master 9.1.1 Home Edition" and reformatted the card with FAT32 and cluster size 32KB. When it finally finished, it gave me the size 27.46GB!! I reformatted through SD Formatter 3.0 hoping that the partition used through Clockworkmod messed up the actual size of the card. I successfully re-formatted the card, however the size remained the same. I know that the size of a microSDHC card 32GB is around 29GB, therefore it does not explain size 27.46GB.
My question now, if there is an answer!!! Is the card faulty or did Clockworkmod messed with the card?
Please advise if possible!
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this, because I think this a very strange story!

I think that the CWM messed up with the SD partition. Try to format in Windows ad tell me the results.
if I'm correct 32gb is the max for the n7000. Note II does up to 64gb
Nope. I have the same card and it shows me all of the space(about 59gb) and i juat put it in the phone.

Could be the reason OR the Card Reader may not be compatible with SDXC...
I got a Transcent dual (micro and standard Card reader) which works fine while some others incompatible.
Once he got the good card reader, he should try to format first the SDXC as exFat (on Windows 7) to be sure he got 64GB, then to get it work on the G-Note is another story...
I had to copy some files (any kind) on the card, then when plugged on the G-Note, the system detect an issue and propose to format the card (watch carefully at the messages)... When done, all is good !

Hallo everybody ,
i bought a 64 GB SD Card for my S3 LTE, Im currently on PAC Rom´s nightly (JB 4.4.2) and everything works fine.
My 16 GB Sd works without any Problems, also did my 8 GB one´s
If i insert my 64 Card it´s also working ok, i can copy paste anything to it and use the moved data.
BUT.
Here´s the point.
If i Restart the Phone or remount the Card it shows up "preparing sd card" and nothing happens.
i thought it may take a little bit longer but 2 day´s should be more than enought
Tried it several times, only way to use it again is to format it.
So if there is data on it, it doesn´t work, empty everything is fine.
Any suggestions ?
May be a littlebit crashy english but im from germany and in a Hurry right now hope you understand everything

Ok, first: Are you sure it's a 64 gb one ? Test it.
Second, how and where are you formating it ?
Had the same problem with my 32GB* micro SD card on my S3 I9305 LTE, it kept saying preparing SD card, it was constantly mounting and unmounting. It was due to the fact the the 32GB card was a Chinese counterfeit. It says 32GB on both the card and in settings>storage, but when tested using H2W, it was only 4GB. I bought an original Samsung 64GB Micro SD and the problem was resolved. Almost all the cheap memory card found on eBay are counterfeit. Buy your card at an official distributor of the brand. don't be tempted by the cheap ones on eBay.
It's a 64 gb card, I formatted it with paragon and it worked, it also said 64gb, I formatted it into exfat, ntfs, fat, and fat32 neither worked :/
Any solutions?
Try on a computer if you can actually store 64GB of data on the card, and then read it back successfully. H2testw is the best way to do this.

Same here with different ROMs and a Sandisk 64GB (real ) -...
Tested all kind of ROMs and kernels to no avail
Gave up and live with 32GB since ....
According to the official information for the Lenovo K3 Note it only supports MicroSD cards upto 32 GB. I tried my Kingston 64 GB card and it doesn't work but I am hearing that people have gotten 64 GB cards to function in their phones.
Can anyone confirm one way or another whether 64GB cards can work in this phone? If so are they specific makes / models?
Many thanks in advance.
Try formatting the SDcard in FAT32, 64GB/128GB uses the ExFat format, that's why your K3 note won't see it, this SoC don't support exFat. When you put your Sd in the phone it won't offer a formatation to work?
It didn't appear to offer any formatting options but I will give it another go.

I had to format mine on a laptop before the phone recognised it
Well it seems like good news. I put the card into an SD card adapter and then into the PC. It loaded some drivers and recognised the thing. I then formatted it using NTFS and reinstalled it on the phone. This time the phone recognised it as either an empty card or a card that needed formatting so I re-formatted it once more and it registers as a card with 58 Gb free. Yippee!!!
Currently copying the 32 Gb card onto the new one using my PC. Hopefully it will go well and then I'll copy some more stuff over just to see that it will genuinely go over the 32 Gb limit.
So far....so good

Well I have been using the card for the last month and all fine. I switched to limoncelo this morning and the card is still recognised with no problems. For reference this is a Kingston 10X 64 GB card. I don't know if other cards might be problematic or not. All I can say is that this is a safe option.
Limoncello nice too....
I am using Sandisk 64GB class10 UHS-1 card directly on the phone, from the day I got the phone, without any issues...
if you go to mediatek "engineer mode"> 3d tab "hardware testing> "IO" >"MSDC" >"MSDC SD3.0 TEST
There are various options such as "sd3 mode: sdhc highspeed, uhs sd12 etc etc.
Does anyone have more information on what these options mean and if they can bring any change in sd card recognition?
just wanted to share i had a sandisk transcend class 10 32 gb, 2 weeks ago i got my chinese 512 gb class10 sdhc as for test purpose for 9$ of ebay. in benchmarks it scores better.
however all works, currently i am on the phoenix rom with exfat file system support.
i just installed my 64gb sd card, and let the phone format it as portable sd card. now i have 59G ! this is under 1606 Cuoco92 custom rom.
Anyone else get any errors when formatting their SD Card? I have a Samsung 64GB
