[Q] Its all designed to break, so we can buy newer ones. - Galaxy S 4 Active General

Ive come to realize that everything and everyone has value and can be bought in the market for higher than actual prices or bought, traded and many times stolen then sold on the black market. Many people has been designated as being valued at 7 one dollar bills and some change. Sadly I thought it was ridiculously low before I found out it wasn't the 8.50 in my mind. So with everything breaking just in time for the newest release and commericials making the guy with an old phone look like an outcast its no wonder antidepressants have many pharmaceutical companies counting their money, not because theyre worried about a bill or a kids lunch money but because its not.illegal for companies to rob and steal from people even though if one of us did what they do we are looking at 25 years easy behind bars. Yea, conning people out of their money and bank robbery are serious crimes unless you have Inc. Or Co. after your name. My reason for this is because the little flappy plug broke off on my.Samsung galaxy.s4 active after 2 months and now its not considered water resistant anymore. Not like it was anyways but now instead of replacing it they say its not covered because the usb cover isnt on there like I took it off so I could root it or something. So they can sell a defective item and when it defects it somehow legally puts them in a more financially sound place. Wow what a mission statement. Our motto here at [email protected] "If it was made more than 6 months ago and still works, we made it wrong." Now I.understand why a lot of items have inspectors initials or numbers on them. Cuz when they get all the defectives back they can see.whose are still on the street and get Donald Trump in there to say "you're fired," and they use his or her next check to give bonuses to defective unit inspectors for units going bad one day outside the 3 day warranty they legally had to issue.
What geniuses they are to promote blogs and such, just like this one here, so we can read and complain to each other and drop the number of would be complaints to there websites and call centers by an estimated 70%. Blog it up America. Letter from our government and Big biz>>>>>*
Dear internet, thank you so very very much. First we would like to say sorry for scaring you with internet shutdowns and what not. That was just to prove a point. Yes, it worked. We would never do that though. Restrictions and complete surveillance, you bet your bandwidth bubba, but you're a cornerstone of todays democracy. Keep sending those "isnt America a republic" google searches over to "america and George Washington love democracy too" pretend a history sites. Well so long, you are forever in our thoughts and stuff, the best double agent that ever has or will of been. Can you imagine if people took to the streets in protest again. Budget, deficit, two words I refuse to say, hurts to type them. Yes we can change whatever we want to.
Forever yours, big guv n big biz
P.S. Facebook likes you, we lied and said you liked her too. I mean without her we would still be hacking myspace and aol accounts. Anyway she's a big fan. Millions of thanks, a billion more if China keeps up its westernized movement. So long you sly devil.
So im taking donations to hopefully get a website/company up and.running that takes complaints from you and sends them to the proper company or calls them. Whatever it takes to get these complaints heard by the ones selling this garbage instead of calming others down because they feel better that it wasnt just them that got robbed. Its time to be heard and they better hire some people to listen if I have anything to type about it. Peace fellow humans.

The flappy cover was crap, but it's not a conspiracy.

This reminds me of What Really Grinds My Gears by Peter Griffin.
I can not deny that there some truth in your post, manufacterers want you to buy new phones so they can make more Katjing.
Yesterday I ordered the S4 Active and I'm very excited about it.
After some online research I've come to the conclusion that the S4 Active is NOT made for being dipped into water.
Some tests showed that you CAN dip it into water, without damaging it. But some showed that the water damaged the phone's screen.
Of course, we don't know if those second tests were performed under the right circumstances, e.g, phone cover, usb jack, water temperature, although most testers say they were. Capability of assuring those circumstances is another story.
I am still going to use this phone to make underwater pictures, but to brag and showboat by deliberately throwing it into water is certainly not worth risking a 500$ device.
PS: I called Samsung and asked about the warranty. They told me you can NOT use it in a hot shower, because of the (hot) steam. Besides that, she said that the phone has been designed for taking low depth underwater pictures. If it should damage anyway, you can send it to Samsung, which will probably take at least 4 weeks, and they will investigate if it was a defect device.
If it is, you're getting a new one. If it isn't, it was probably your fault. If it wasn't your fault, then you just got screwed.

I thought that was what the Better Business Bureau was for? I'm in the US but I would bet other countries have a similar organization?

My Old Phone
I treated it like a new born baby and my galaxy note i717 sucked from the moment I go it. Then 2 years later 2 months before I was eligible for my next upgrade the turd phone's charging port went and a week later it would switch from full 5 bars of cell signal to 0 signal and drop calls all the time...AT&T didn't care I had insurance but it would have cost $200 to get a new phone cause the note was no longer made. They wanted to give me a note 2. I declined because the note three was coming out in a week and a half. I just got a new phone plan and got the S4 active. No problems since. I was mighty pissed though!!

I agree my defy lasted me a whole two years i went caving with it, climbing, fishing and dropped it in the sea once where it sunk to at least a meter and once it was in my fishing box that fell over board and still worked, i took it sailing while it was in my pocket, my pocket filled with water but the phone was fine only trouble was the screen did get a fair few scratches on it by the time i sold it. the little flap was much better on that too
the s4 active i had to send one off for a broken gsm reciever and one for water damage all i did was walk in the rain for a few hours.
so the next one that came i stripped it and filled it with non toxic fisk tank sealant put it back together added a wireless charger filled the back cover and all screw holes with sealant and filled the flappy port with sealant and hopefully now it should be all good thinking of sticking kitkat aosp on it now as samsung are taking an age to release 4.4

Ouch!!! that's gotta hurt
Damn, but it was his own fault
it all depends. the guy could have been on the phone to their father on his death bed for all you know. He could have been taking notes about the class on his kaiser.
The teacher had no right to smash it - personally I would take him to court.
Acceptable actions would have been to confiscate the phone or to eject the student from the class, not destroy private property.
Well, you got there
1. Criminal Battery (taking a women's purse off her wrist is considered a battery because its a unwarranted touching of something attached to the person)
2. Theft and destruction of property.
Teacher could face criminal charges and restitution of the amount for the phone
Also could file a lawsuit for the cost of the phone and the cost of having to go get another one.
Assuming this is in the US.
Hmmm, Civil or Criminal route. but fear not, tell your teacher he better pony up the cash to buy a new one or else your going to have to exersise the legal options available to you.
Not smart on the phone in class, but you got to be an idiot to smash it
no jury in the world would convict!
I would just get up and kick his ass.....
Thats almost as bad as physically assaulting someone. Especially if they just got a brand new 800.00 dollar Kaiser

No job, bills keep coming in, need advice!

Hello!
I left my night shift job last month and still don't have a job. I'm actively looking for a job, but even then I won't make it to my first pay at this pace.
Is there any way I could make a few bucks at least for gas in the meantime, just so I don't reach the negative balance?
hey sorry about that better times will come.. in the meantime I'll give you my advice and this one comes from personal experience(yes I've had a few rough times, who hasn't?)
Last time I was short on the "thing you use to buy potatoes"(sounds better in portuguese) aka money, I sold something(s) that I had and was not making use of, like my PSP for example. Broke my heart to let it go but you gotta do what you gotta do.
The point is, we always keep things we don't use anymore because we think "well I might be needing this some day" and probably will need that thing again but until then there are more important things one might need.
hope this helps
I have been out of work for 6 months...
are you handy around the house? why not post your talents online (painting, wallpapering, cleaning) on free classified postings...
I lost my job in february due to a work injury, and I was physically unable to do most work with out the use of my left arm. I have healed since then but stopped receiving disability pay in october. It has been 10 weeks and unemployment still has yet to come through and help me out.
I also have sold off things that were luxury items like my ATV and an engine I had built sitting around in my garage. A friend of mine supplements his unemployment doing odd jobs he finds off craigslist and I have helped people move and cut firewood for cash. Hoping the economy picks up locally so i can get back to work soon.
Good luck and look everywhere. Craigslist is a good place to start.
what response have you received from the unemployment office?
Have you gone to them?
If you have, did you show the letter stating when disability payments would start and/or end?
They may be waiting from a response from your previous employer...
I don't get unemployment cheques, but I'm getting a job internview this morning. Thankfully, I don't have many financial responsabilities (college student here), but I could use a few bucks just to close the gap 'till I get a job.
As for putting gas in my car... I got rear-ended yesterday, total loss, and 5 minutes later Staples calls for a job offer!

Not really, the car took it all so I'm feeling fine, but still. Now I have to get another car with what the insurance company judges my car is worth (360 000 km, but in better condition than anything that mileage).

Dang it I hate this laggy keyboatd!!!

What company would you get rid off the planet?

I made this thread because I'm pretty sure other threads are made of this topic but I wanted to create a newer one since all these new products are coming out.
I would choose Apple because:
1)Selling over priced, under powered (for the price) computers that have no customization (well barely and I mean like building your own)
2) Changing the animal on their OS, add a .1, add features that can come in an update, and calling it a whole new OS.
3) Selling the iPhone and making the iPad (the iPod touch seems like the only good Apple Product). They don't know what the term "smart" phone means. I mean no multi tasking, boring, un-creative UI. The features in the iPhone/iPad may have been ground breaking 7 years ago but not today.
4) How it makes the fanboyz/fangirlz go crazy about the product because they hypnotized them about how they are good and the other companies are evil. The fanboyz/fangirlz are mad because they spent a lot of cash on an over priced piece of doo-doop) and they have to unleash their anger on past mistakes of another company while forgetting about the new features in the product today.
I like only one thing of apple products and mostly their software for computers: They have pretty good video editing software and that is pretty much it.
Unleash your inner fanboy/fangirl and just rant.
Apple has done a lot for the world though, with the ipod influencing other MP3 players, as well as showing that the linux based operating system can be used in mainstream media. I'd go more with AT&T and verizon mostly because of the monopolies that they have on the cell phone market right now. I'd rather have no contract phones which allow a pay per use plan. Either that or Walmart because of their screwing consumers.
All the oil/petroleum companys!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you completely. Don't forget Quicktime (terrible UI and runs background services), iTunes (way to lock up music, Apple), iPods (same dial, same disk space, half the price elsewhere), and the iPod touch (what's the purpose or purchasing a stand-alone portable media wifi device again? that must come in real handy on the beach, in clubs, bars, and everywhere else wifi doesn't exist).
Also, who can really respect a company that basically releases dumbed-down technology basically saying that their customers are slow and stupid and lack self-respect when it comes to not being able to customize their portable devices? Notice how in the Windows Phone 7 Series walk-through found on MSDN today, the president/manager of the project said, "If you buy the phone we are going to let you customize it."
Also, special mention for Verizon, who really has worked hard to rip off the average consumer.
verizon. worst company ever.
AT$T has to go. This is undoutedly the worst company in the world. They have their heads so far up Apple's ass they should be called Apple T$T.
They simply do not care that people hate them, they have no new phones, except updated Tilts and Diamonds. They have the absolute worst customer service
http://digitaldaily.allthingsd.com/...sumer-reports-best-cell-phone-service-survey/
Latest example: My wife and I split ( no big deal , long time coming ) she decided that she wanted to take the iPhone that I bought her and the Propel that I bought her son, both of which I had put on my account, and get her own acount with AT$T. Without any notice to me, AT$T allowed her to take the phones and signed her up to two new two year contracts, and as I only found out yesterday, charged me with $300 dollars in early termination fees. When I challenged them on this, they said that I can always continue to pay for the numbers until the contract runs out. I asked them , since they allowed her to take the phone off of my account, why don't they just terminate the contract.
They informed me that the contract was for the numbers not the handsets. And that who ever was using the handsets, was out of their control. They further said that the contracts are meant to offset the subsidizing of the phones. I clearly pointed out that holding me to the balance of the original contract for the phones and then signing them up to two new two year contracts for the same two phones, was " double dipping " and that any reasonable customer service rep who wanted to keep a 7 year customer with four phones on AT$T would see that by cancelling the two contracts, AT$T was not losing any money and had infact guaranteed themselves more money by signing the ex and her son to two new 2 year contracts.
At which point they continued their mantra " the contract was for the phone numbers, not the phones themselves. " At which point, I cancelled the two phones that I had that were out of contract. Put the ex and her son's # on suspended service for $9.99 a month until the contract expires. And now must make a decision on what to do with my iPhone in July when that contract runs out. In the last seven years, I have paid AT$T $ 10,000- $14,000 in connection fees, and some dope in their customer service dept is forcing me to go elsewhere over $300 in early termination fees that are being paid for by " double dipping " in another account. Stupidity like this has got to go.
Where would this company be if Steve Jobs decides to yank there heads out of his butt ?
Oh Yeah, iPhone, Mac Book, iPod touch, 2 iMacs, U2 iPod classic = Apple Fanboy here.
Everybody hates the people who " get it "
Rogers Wireless, which used to be Rogers AT&T. We're seeing a pattern here
Probably AT&T. AT&T has terrible service nearly everywhere, crappy customer service (moreso than most telcos), and poor overall selection of devices.
Ever since the iPhone was introduced, AT&T has basically given up on maintaining their network at a usable level. The worst is when you call their terrible customer service only to be greeted by a voice announcing that they are "home of the iPhone" before you actually get help. I don't hate the iPhone, I have a few of them in fact, but I hate how AT&T having exclusivity over the iPhone has led to them ignoring all other aspects of their company.
They've almost forgotten about Windows Mobile and have completely ignored Android and WebOS devices, instead opting for more feature phones, because we all need more $20 Nokias and Samsungs. AT&T stopped trying once they got exclusivity of the iPhone, figuring that they wouldn't have to actually get business by being good at what they do, but rather by forcing people into switching in order to get their desired device.
If you don't believe me about the terrible customer service, I have a story for you. For Christmas of 2009, my mother and sister wanted iPhone 3GSes to replace their aging original iPhones. My father I waited to go to the AT&T store until the night before, because one of the incompetent CS representatives we talked to over the phone said that the original iPhones would deactivate, and we didn't want them deactivated for very long, should they need their phones. However, this was untrue, meaning we had to wait in long lines on Christmas Eve when we could have bought the iPhones months ago with no negative effects
After we finally got served by a representative, we were told that the bill we had mailed out almost two weeks ago still hadn't been processed yet, and in order to pay the lower upgrade price instead of the full retail price (~$500), we would have to pay the bill at the store, and have the check we mailed out be credited to our account. After we did that, the lady sold us the iPhones, which seemed fine. Except it wasn't fine, since she upgraded of the iPhones on my father's account, instead of my mother's which was a pain to deal with when we bought my father an iPhone a few weeks later. After we finally got the iPhones and drove home, we immediately got a call from the AT&T store, letting us know that the woman who sold us the iPhones had forgotten to put one of them back in the box after activating it, meaning we had to drive back again and pick up the phone which they forgot. The moral of this story is that AT&T is a horrible company, and a good portion of their customer service representatives are incapable of doing their jobs properly or giving correct information.
I actually have a few more AT&T stories to share, but I think I'd probably run past the 10,000 character post limit were I to share them all
AT&T...I left them a few years ago because of their ripoff plans, iphonia, no customer support, etc.

I'm hoping that this is sarcasm and that you realize that this is actually support against Apple's dominance. Stock prices for the most part are based on hype and a LACK of knowledge about a company. There's more idiots than smart people in the US, so a company like Apple should thrive. George W. Bush got elected twice. There are plenty of idiots around to think Apple is worth it.

for those of you that believe you received a defective device

Even though sprint is not better business bureau accredited, I have filed a complaint with the BBB against sprint regarding the fact that they have knowledgeably put defective devices in the hands of consumers, and are not making a quick effort to remedy the situation, I have also stated that sprint wants to replace the devices with refurbished devices, which are valued at a lesser value then a brand new device, and still charge customers for the full price of the brand new device. I have also pointed out that they are stringing customers through the 14 day exchange period claiming it is the network, and then on the 15th day saying it is the device, and making it very difficult to exchange the devices. any way I am encouraging any one who has had issues with their device to file a complaint with the bbb against sprint, as sprint does respond to their complaints on there
Yesterday, after many chats and calls with Sprint, and 2 trips to 2 different stores, I was assured that my device is fine and that the towers in my area are to be fully functional by May 7. We'll see if my service improves. I have the option of getting refurb, which is complete bs. A brand new phone that may be defective and I can't get a brand new one because I'm past the 14 days. So yeah, I'm with you on this if things don't improve in 3-4 days.
OP. The first device I've received had a completely black pixel in the top right. I exchanged it and got a new phone with a SCRATCH under the glass and a red pixel (which I'm guessing is dead). On my third trip the guy was reluctant to hand me a new HTC One, but when I got it, it had another completely black pixel. I completely agree that sprint is knowingly dishing out defective devices to people. I'll try and figure out how to file a complaint with them. Thanks OP

Hard to prove stupidity.
Count me in on this. Not a happy camper. Two weeks of "it's the towers in your area", an hour + with three levels of tech support from my landline and finally a second trip to a store where a technician actually tested the device and entered an eTicket on my accounting noting my M8 was defective and needed to be replaced.
No TEP? $75 bucks to replace the phone through Sprint or screw around for a few weeks dealing directly with HTC. Why should I have to pay for a defective product that never worked well and progressively deteriorated into a worthless brick? I can't get calls from my customers or email in the field and this is not good for business so I'm desperate. Even though furious at the prospect of paying $75 dollars for a 4 week old phone that didn't work through no fault of my own, for expediency I begrudgingly went ahead and set up getting a replacement. Damn, what a scam!
After it all gets set up and entered into the computer, then the guy tells me they are on backorder and it will be 5 to 7 days before they ship.
I just about lost it but attempted to maintain some degree of civility while expressing my displeasure with this policy, their crap customer service that could care less and that my intention was to contact the BBB and possibly the Attorney General regarding this whole debacle. I know the guy I was speaking to was just doing his job and probably hears a lot of this but his one saving grace was asking me if I still had my old phone.
After confirming they weren't going to bone me an activation fee for bringing my old phone back online and not for the replacement M8 whenever I get it, I am now back on my three year old HTC Evo 4G but at least I can make and receive calls, get texts and have some degree of mobile data connectivity and can get email away from WiFi. In the post-contact texts from Sprint asking about my satisfaction with the recent call, I let them know this was robbery and that I would never recommend anyone ever choose Sprint.
I think I can put TEP on my replacement and trust me, if it doesn't work as expected I'll utilize it to the max and if still not satisfied, feel like this is sufficient grounds to break my contract and go somewhere else. It took days to get my M8 setup just the way I wanted it and I absolutely love it. Too bad I can't use it. :crying:

FA43KSF... serial number
I agree with your anger. I have never wanted to switch carriers in the 5 years with Sprint until now. I wish I had not have sold my gs3 when I got my m8. I would go back to that and sell this one. I still might. It may be the towers for me, that is yet to be seen, but the utter lack of service over this is the frustrating part. I shouldn't get a refurb for a brand new defective device. "That's Sprint policy" though. Lameness.
Yeah, once I have my replacement I will be submitting a complaint to the attorney general of Illinois about the issue too, and encourage others to take part in that step too...also I can see by the increase in complaints to sprint on BBB's website that a good amount of people are seeing this thread and submitting complaints...ive been stuck on a Samsung replenish which is my back up phone for 4 days...also the serial on my defective m8 is HT441SF....

:crying:

What is the worst thing about this is how Sprint is handling it.
Not that broken/defective devices exist or broken towers.
Just that they could give crap about you as a loyal customer.
They treat you like dirt. And they wonder why customers treat them like dirt back.
It's been such a bad experience, it took all the fun out of getting this phone. So they botch something, it happens. It's they handle it like sh$t.
I would have been more content keeping my old M7 phone.
It started off like crap when they kept me on the phone for like an hour when I ordered the thing and tried to upsell a bunch a crap.
And the lady had put a Tablet AND Stylus on my order. I caught her at the end had her take it off. But she left a freaken stylus on there.
It was only $15.00, just small enough to not want to waste another hour on the phone and shipping it back.
Man did that piss me off to start.

Sorry, but the fact that you got a stylus for a phone, that clearly doesn't need one, is hilarious to me.

The lady I ordered from tried to upsell that stuff to me too. She wouldn't take no for an answer and actually asked me if it was a money issue as to why I didn't want the tablet. I was so irritated that I yelled.
And that's why I only order from their website. No hassle and you get the same results.

Because I have a SERO 500 plan (two of them) that's not an option. It's part of the dues you pay for having that plan.
I'd be long gone if not for the SERO 500 plan. No way I'd pay regular price for this network and customer service. It's getting close to not being worth the savings as is.
I agree with you. I have 2 sero plans as well, if not then I would be long gone too.
I have the opposite experience with Sprint. LTE is everywhere averaging 20 to 30 mb. I pay roughly 60 a line too. I'm not going anywhere lol

I'm lucky if I get 0.5 mb.
My sprint horror story continues...was told on Wednesday of last week that my new phone would be there in two business days, got told yesterday (Monday) that it would be here by today...go to the store thinking I would pick it up today, and my phones not there, the manager pulls up the tracking and says it hasn't even shipped yet, keeps me there for an hour and a half well he talks to his other store people about who to call at the warehouse, instead of calling the warehouse like he would do if he had any freaking common sense
I'm not having any issues. Sorry to hear all of you guys, hope that I never fall on that situation.

What's the defect about? I ordered my m8 off contract for 250 thru htcchampions.

[Q] To return or not to return?

I just received by Z3 Compact today but due to the vast reports of glass cracking and buying the phone on sim free with the intention to sell it after 12-24 months, I really don't know whether I should take the risk and keep it since their are many reports of the glass cracking by itself. It's a big shame because I had so much hope for this phone and their are lots of things i love about it such as the following:
Audio huge step up from G2
Feels premium in the hand compared to the G2.
I was impressed with screen detail that I was fooled into thinking it was HD.
Some bad points I notice just from first use:
Screen vibrates when volume high
Icons and text seems to be slightly squeezed in the menu
im worried about all the reports of glass cracking
I've really never been an iPhone fan and prefer a less than 5 inch device so if I return I really don't know where to go from here. I guess there's the Galaxy Alpha but I really don't want to go back to samsung if I could help it (had a galaxy s2 before and it stopped working after 24 months). So if the Z3 Compact is not to be due to manufacturer flaw with glass then where do I go from here? I already sold my G2 and need a phone asap.
There are a few reports of glass cracking by itself as opposed to tens oder hundreds of thousands of units sold, and it seems a bunch of people just jumped the train and claimed theirs did too while it looks like they dropped the phone from the pattern of their cracks, eventually because of the slippery backside.

So a bunch of people are lying? I think you should look a little further afield than just this forum. There are so many reports now from multiple sources now that it's becoming hard to deny there is a major flaw with the glass of this phone. From the sound of things if you buy this phone its just a matter of time before your glass will crack. And since I bought my z3c with cash that's a risk I'm not willing to take.
Even if most of the reports were legit, the likeliness of being affected is still negligible considering the amount of units sold. And even if so, most of the cases seem to have been covered by Sony's warranty so far.
Definitely keep it. It's the best non-huge phone on the market right now.
And it IS HD Just not Full HD, but you don't need full HD below 5".

That was my mantra as well for weeks before buying this phone, but what's the point having the best non-huge phone if it's only going to break?
P.S Do you own one?
I would say to keep it. Like the others have said, the number of reports around the glass cracking are very small compared to the number of units sold. Ultimately, it's your decision, but I've been very happy with mine and my suggestion would be for you to keep it.
You can't tell whether it's going to break, and if it does you'll get it repaired under warranty.
It may look horribly, but if all those cracked phones are going to be fixed/exchanged then there is no big deal just few days without it.
Otherwise the phone is fantastic.

that's a pretty big deal. not everyone has a backup phone and they don't cross ship like dell. you can't just pop into a sony store for instant refurb replacement like you can with apple, either. microsoft stores are also pretty great about replacing their lumias.
i bought mine with amex, so i have 90 days to evaluate whether or not it will break. if it does, i won't even bother going through sony, judging from the poor customer service and finger pointing people have been mentioning

Do you even own one? There are hundreds reports online now it's not just "a hand full of people" anymore.
There's no telling whether you have a defective unit but as others say, those with the fault are heard louder than those who haven't experienced issues. If you do want to resell then I strongly suggest you buy a case and glass screen protector, both of which can be obtained for reasonable prices.
I agree with your first bad point, but then 99% of the time I listen through headphones, your second is because of the smaller resolution of the Z3C vs the LG G2 (I know I have both) which are both set to the same dpi (320).
I was so disturbed about the 'self breaking' glass reports that I had a dream last night that my phone's front screen was all cracked.
Woke up and it was fine. I love this phone
