Hello,
Windows Phone 8 now supports custom text tones so you can select custom text tone (SMS) for each phone number. This works great but I have a problem because I would like to select a custom text tone for receiving fire alerts (like pager), but the problem is that sender of this messages is not a phone number but a text entry (instead of for example 0028631234523, sender is GZTrbovlje). I have tried to save this as a contact and then add a custom text tone, but it doesn't work, because it is not a phone number. Any idea how to solve this?
I would like to have this configured because I would like to have a very loud text tone fort his messages. Andoid has a FireAlert app but there is no app like this for Windows Phone so this would be a good workaround.
Thank you!
Best wishes,
Marko
Hey,
You might try the following, but I have no idea if it works since I cannot test it:
go to your messages, click the thread with the message. On top, it should say "GZTrbovlje". you can click that name and save it as contact, it will save the name as email address, but you can still change the ringtone without having the phone number.
Hello,
thank you for your answer. I have tried this but it doesn't work. Any other idea?
Best wishes,
Marko

All,
I have searched up and down using google and this forum, and all I have found is people with similar problems but no answers to these questions below:
1. Ring tones for contacts saved to the phone are easy, as is setting a single .mp3 to play for SMS messages, but all I really want is my default ring tones for contacts to play when they send me SMS messages. I know Ringo does this, but it crops my ring tones down. I don't want this. I want the full 3-8 minute song to play for a given contact whenever they send me an SMS message.
2. Why won't my current SMS ring tone stop playing on opening of a notification? No matter what it is, a stock 10 second clip or a 8 minute .mp3, it plays completely whether I have opened the phone or not. The equivalent of this would be you getting a call, answering the call, and as you are talking, your main ring tone is still playing. I don't know if this has to do with windows media player, which I have replaced with the audio manager, which is much better, but it is a huge hassle for the sms message ringer not stop once you've opened and are replying to an sms notification. I don't want to have to have my text messages just vibrate or have no sound at all. I want the whole .mp3 to play the ring tone for the specific contact unless I read or dismiss the notification.
I have looked into Ringo, Phonealarm, and Mobiedit, and none does want I want. Ringo crops my SMS alerts, but plays full .mp3s for incoming calls...It should be the other way around. Mobiedit wouldn't recognize any of my .mp3s. Phonealarm has a lot of nice features, but what I want is very specific.
Any registry hacks for this? Any cabs for this?
I want to thank you in advance for your answers and for all the wonderful information, tips & tricks, and downloads you offer.
Thank you,
Brian

Can anyone point me in the direction of another resource then?
PhoneAlarm WILL do this. You just have to set it up.
Really? Then I couldn't figure this out. Is there a difference between the trial version and the full version?
Thank you for your help and I will report back to see if I can get it to work.
phonealarm does indeed allow you to shut off the notification once you either dismiss or reply to it. I don't know if it is worth 30 bucks. Is there a way to get an 'answer on open' like function for sms?
It does not however, allow me to use my contacts ringers for their incoming text messages. Is there a registry tweak out there I can do to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
Hi All,
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to change the tone played when a sms message has been sent, tried searching the forum (promise) with various terms but can't find any answers. The default tone sounds a bit dated compared to the ones you can change via the settings?
Cheers
Setting Tab: click Sound. Then Advanced (right button). And after that the Notifications tab.
Under the Event field choose Messaging: New text message. Then you can customise what you like.
by the way, if you wish to use your own mp3, It must not be stored in the Internal Storage (4GB) othewise it wont appear on the drop down list.
hope this helps

mp3s can be stored in internal storage/my documents to be used as choices for new ringtones. been possible since wm5 i think.
i dun think TS is asking for changing of incoming msg alert, rather the alert sound that plays after the msg is sent and the notification lights up.
hmm, i disabled the msg sent notification, find it pretty annoying to acknowledge and dismiss after so many WM models.
Thanks for the responses, enfant_terrible has is right though. it's the message sent tone that I'm trying to change, I can see an option to change the MMS sent tone but nothing for an SMS. Not the biggest issue in the world I grant you but it bugs me that I can't change it plus I'm also trying to remove all traces of the Tytn II this phone has finally replaced! Pretty happy otherwise.
Thanks.
Never used to have that problem in diamond, if i receive a message from my call screen to call someone (when they leave their number), in my ex-diamond, i used to be able to dial that number directly from the message that originated from call screen.
As for the diamond 2, it is really sux! i have to hit all messages and then go to that message (from call screen) and then hit the number that i need to dial...
has anyone done any tweak to that? or any solution?
thanks
i have been here...but was not usefull

push please!
If you mean you receive a text message and want to call the person back who sent you the message then all you have to do is press the dial key when you are looking at the message it will then open the dial screen with the texters number ready to dial out.....
bishbosh.
Text Message - Numbers Within Text
Yes I have reported this to HTC. If you turn off touchflow and ask the sender to simply resend the same message the telephone number within the body of the text its now blue and you can select it and then dail it. It seems to be touchflow issue.

Ah! I see. In touchflow you can only view the received message and reply to it.

Hi,
I've found the software "call sms blocker". It had been made to block incoming unwanted calls and logged it... hide private sms...
I've attent to configure it but no way ! it does not stop anything that incoming !
Have you test it ? with success ???
yes. I use it and it works perfectly. It is an awesome program.
The way i have it setup is I have it set to accept all and then I make a custom list of numbers to reject. In this custom list I added all my phonebook contacts. Its kind of confusing but you have to remember that your phone only replies via sms to REJECTED calls/ and or sms. So yeah it sems weird to say reject contacts but this is what u need to do if you want your phone to send an automatic sms reply back to your contact.
So i did this for both calls and sms. I set both to ACCEPT under the "status" tab. then go into each tab "call" and "sms" and create new lists within each. Do this by tapping and holding in the window area and say ADD. Name it, make it REJECT, and make the action Hangup. Then go down to "List" (right soft key) and select number>add>phonebook. You can then check all the numbers from your phonebook that you want to add. Then also under "List" (right soft key) you can go into Advance Opt and set your custom message.
Repeat for the "sms" tab. Tap and hold in window area to make a new list. Name it, make it REJECT type, and I say "move to blocked" for action type. (this creates a new folder in your inbox of your messages so it makes it easy to find the sms that the program blocked. Add numbers from your phonebook same as I said above.
Now one thing to keep in mind. When I first started using this program I found that it only responded to my missed calls and not sms. What I discovered was that all the numbers for the sms list had to have a 1 in front of the number so that it looked like this 1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx. Whereas for my call list, the numbers in the list are like this (xxx) xxx-xxxx. For some reason I dont know why, this makes a difference.
So give it a try. I hope this helps you.
I have installed handcent, and I seem to be having trouble after having assigned different notifications tones to my contacts.. When I receive a message from that contact, instead of me hearing the tone I set for that person it appears to just play the standard htc default tone.
How can I stop this from happening?
Many thanks
