[Q] noob questions regarding cm11 on nook HD+ - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I boot my nook HD+ using the march 10 cm 11 nightly my screen shows the Original Nook screen for about a second, then the CM boot loader screen, is this normal? was I supposed to wipe the original somehow?
Once booted I am using 4.4, but many of the apps I had before installing CM are still there, and nova launcher was still set up the way I had it on the stock nook.
Also the android stock browser does not work. Any thoughts/suggestions/insults are welcome.

Yes, you were supposed to do a wipe data/factory reset with CWM after you flashed the CM11 zip. That would clear the data from the stock setup. If fact, you should boot back to CWM and do that now. That is probably why your browser does not work.
That boot screen is normal with CM (nook briefly followed by cyanoboot).

I was running cm10.2 nightlies. I tried to go to carbon and it was having some issues with boot looping. I tried to reinstall cwm recovery to emmc off of my sd card being I had changed to twrp. Now it wont boot from sd card and is still on twrp but wont let me install any zips. it gives me error with zip signature. Now it just boots to twrp everytime and wont go to anything even after I tried to restore to 10.2 nigtlies that I had backed up in twrp. How can i get this thing back to a clean slate and start over?

You can turn off signature verification in TWRP. Go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and try to flash one of my plain stock zips from item 6. That should restore everything. Be sure to factory reset with TWRP too before you reboot.

I used your stock zips and fixed it. But I'm still having original problem which is reboots and sleep of death. I'm going to flash 10.1.3 stable and gapps no apps and run for a day and see if its a third party app. What do u suggest.

Just do what you did earlier, flash the stock zip. Also do a factory reset with your custom recovery.
And doing what you suggested earlier about not installing apps right away is a good idea. Many have said maps and having GPS checked can be a problem.

OK did that still no good. I ran log cat and I can't tell why it died from it. How do I get rid of everything to send it back to stock. I may start from scratch. If I can get it to boot to sdcard. That don't work either now

I just told you twice. Flash the plain stock zip and factory reset.
But if your CWM SD will not boot, you need to try one of the options below.
If you flashed the custom recovery, power on with the power button and n button. Release after about 7 seconds. Should boot to that custom recovery and you can flash the plain stock zip.
If you did not flash a custom recovery, just interrupt the boot 8 times in a row and it will completely reset.

In TWRP you can only partition the SD, not internal memory. That is why your SD will not boot any more. Send me your serial number via Private Message and I will make a custom zip for you to flash. You also need to make a new bootable CWM SD since you repartitioned the old one.

[Q] Where can I get stock ROM for restoring Nook HD+?

Hello,
Kudos to all the nice folks here for the CM mod and updates.
My Nook HD+ has battery issues and was told to send it back to B&N. I took a backup of the stock ROM before installing CM but I'm unable to find it :crying:
I've searched a lot for this and would really really appreciate a link to download the ROM and copy to the microSD card.
I believe I just need the "clockworkmod" folder on the microSD card, right? If not, it would be great to have quick steps.
Thanks again for your time..
You can get the plain stock zip that is flashable with CWM from my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature. Item 6. That will take you back to pure stock so you can deal with B&N.

Thanks a lot for your prompt response, leapinlar.
I downloaded "NookHDplus-bootable-CWM-6028-for-stock-4GB-rev4-(05.15.13).zip" and extracted it to get "NookHDplus-bootable-CWM-6028-for-stock-4GB-rev4-(05.15.13).img" which I burned to the microSD card using "Win32DiskImager"
And then, I copied "NookHDplus-factory-2.1.1-plain-stock.zip" file to the card. I tried inserting this card to the Nook HD+ device but it just boots to CM instead of showing options to restore.
I believe I'm missing something. I'm so sorry to bother you but would greatly appreciate if you could spare a few moments to point me in the right direction. It would be immensely helpful.
Thanks so much again for responding.

Thanks again, leapinlar.
I tried the alternate procedure and did the following:
1. Used "SDFormatter" to format the card and used "EaseUS Partition Master" to make the single partition on the microSD card "active"
2. Copied files making sure to copy "MLO" file first before copying the rest. (Please refer to attachment for the files that were in the card)
I was able to complete the "install from SD card" option and it finished with the following message:
Code:
Random Offset: 0xcb
Boot Files...
Boot Files...
Install Complete.
When I tried rebooting the device, Nook HD+ seems to load stock but gets stuck at 99% forever. Not sure how to proceed now. Can I just go ahead and return the device or should I bring it to working condition?
Thanks again for sparing your time, leapinlar.. Greatly appreciate it.
Did you do a factory reset with CWM before rebooting after flashing the plain stock? You need to.

Hi. I am selling my nook hd+ and would like to restore the B&N stock rom. I am running CM 10.1 stable. Based on this thread and leapinlar's advice in his CWM thread, I have the following steps:
1. Place the backed-up nook rom zip in the CWM folder.
2. Reboot into CWM recovery
3. Wipe data and rom
4. Flash the stock zip file
Based on leapinlar's advice in his CWM thread, it is my understanding that flashing the zip will fully restore the unit to stock rom, including stock recovery. Is that correct?
EDIT: Sorry, but perhaps I was mistaken. The stock rom zip has to be loaded on the bootable CWM sd card?
Appreciate all input. Thank you.

Restoring the backup will only do the ROM and not recovery. You must flash the plain stock zip if you want both replaced. And yes, you copy the zip to the SD. And just do the factory reset, no other wiping.

When you refer to factory reset, you are referring to factory reset of the current rom on the unit (i.e. in my case, CM 10.1)?

Hello guys, I would just like to add to this- I actually wanted to restore to stock rom as well.
I remember using the img burn method as outlined before to get to cwm recovery. I actually tried the new method involving just formatting and copying the 5 boot files and copying the zips as well. However, with the sd card in the slot, the device just boots to the stock rom.
From reading leapinlar's guide, I remember saying that it will take about 10 boots to boot into cwm recovery- however, I did over 15 times now and with no success- is there any other way to get to recovery mode quicker?
I actually ended up running into TWRP recovery and there did the flashing of stock rom, but it didn't get rid of the cyanoboot screen- I think I need to go through one more factory reset in order to get rid of the boot screen, and therefore will need to access the cwm recovery.
Any help will be appreciated. thanks

Doing the recovery multiple times haven't really worked out so far.

yes! I actually flashed the rooted stock. So then the next question I have is- is it possible to have no cyanoboot logo yet have the device rooted?
also, I am still wondering as to why the cwm recovery is not showing up when I use my sd. is the method using img recovery still valid?
thanks for your help, as always.

Yes, my root methods before rev3 used the old way of rooting, without the revised boot.img. But those versions did not have the /system file protection removed. But I removed it from my site when I published rev3.
And yes the CWM SD is still valid using both methods. But sometimes the img method is harder to achieve.

That is correct, there is no cyanoboot logo with rev2. And rev2 works perfectly as root.
What I mean by no removed file protection is that with rev2 you cannot change any files in /system without it being detected and on the next boot it resetting itself to pure stock with no root. With rev3 that file protection for /system is removed, but it shows the cyanoboot logo. It is a trade off.
If you want rev2 I can repost the link.

Slow system on CM 11 M12

The only partitions that should ever need to be wiped are /cache, /data, and /system. Wiping some partitions other than these 3 (e.g., /rom and /factory) will brick your Nook.

I'm having the same issue as the OP. Followed these instructions to upgrade to CM11 M12 :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-hd/general/how-to-updating-hd-hd-internal-emmc-to-t2863171
And now stuck with a very sluggish tablet - any apps opening are really slow - has been like this for a couple of days now. Battery life also seems to be worse.
You suggested a factory reset - do you mean the factory reset option in the Backup and reset menu?
Almost tempted to downgrade back to 10.2.1 - it had its faults, but was still better than this.... but i can't find any info on how i'd do that - can i use my current version of CWM Recovery (had to update it to do the upgrade) and just flash the old version of CM10 and the relevant Gapps?

No, you can't use the new CWM to go back to CM10.2.1. It requires the old CWM. And to factory reset boot to CWM to do it (either version).

Also, if i was to downgrade to 10.2.1 could i do it by just copying the files to the internal or external memory and doing the following? :
downgrade the CWM recovery, reboot into the new recovery, wipe data/factory reset and then install chosen CM10 and Gapps?
Thanks for the help!

If you only factory reset (in other words don't wipe /system) then your ROM stays and should still run, just settings and installed apps removed.
And yes on procedure to downgrade.

Yes I did it from backup and reset menu, but I think it did reset with cwm anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Just to share my observations. In general the performance is very good. Currently I'm on M12.
I'm mostly using it to read PDFs.
In the past I observed, that after a while of operation it gets slow and even the touchscreen is not responding properly. After a reboot everything is fine again. I couldn't observe it anymore lately, but not sure whether this is because of I did a reboot (before it becomes necessary).
A question because I first read the thread title wrong: will there be a CM12 for this device? Or other way around, is someone (leapinlar?) working on a port lollipop to nook or is intended to do so?
