[Q] Sudden Death? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey community,
~2 weeks ago i have successfully
1.unlocked my bootloader
2.Root my device (proofed by "root-checker"app)
3.installed BeanStalk 4.4.251 via recovery
All worked fine and my device was stable.
Today my device turned off or is unable to react. --> Xperia was charged with ~60%
The screen is black, but the LED is blinking every 4th second in a mix of white/purple colour. (Message LED)
Connection via USB --> No reaction of my Xperia Z or Laptop
Now my question:
Is this a Sudden Death/Sleep?
Or what?
And the primary question would be:
Can someone tell me how to fix it?
What i have already tried out:
-Hard/Cold Reset --> Volume up + Power
-SUS --> No reaction after plugging the USB
-Sony PC Companion --> Same as SUS
-Waiting ~30-45min and Hard Reset
My phone:
Sony Xperia Z - C6603
Firmware before BeanStalk : 10.1.A.1.350 DE
Thank you in advance!

When I hard bricked my Xperia T it was listed as qhsusb_dloader ot the top of the list... Umm, try to charge your phone for several hours on the wall charger. Idk if it helps but you could try to put a rubber band across the power and vol up button. It was a method on Xperia T to get it back to life at some points... I hope it works for you, too

[Q] Xperia T will not go past Sony logo

Hi, I have tried to use flashtools and I've got all the necessary drivers (I think) but once I put hold power button and vol+ (3 vibrations), then press vol-, connect to pc via USB and I get a temporary green led, which goes after about 5 seconds, and then my phone disconnects from my computer again and i get a constant red led while the Sony logo appears. I really need my phone to work Could someone out there please help with this! I would really appreciate if someone responded very soon as I would like to get this sorted as soon as possible. Flashtools gives me these messages:
22/012/2013 23:12:07 - INFO - Device disconnected
22/029/2013 23:29:07 - INFO - Device connected in flash mode
22/029/2013 23:29:18 - INFO - Device disconnected
Also one more thing I'd like to add.. Once I go into that BLU thing, it keeps on asking me what device I have, so I select Xperia T and then it gives the following messages:
22/052/2013 22:52:26 - INFO - Your phone bootloader cannot be officially unlocked
22/052/2013 22:52:26 - INFO - You can now unplug and restart your phone
Might this have something to do with it? Any suggestions would be grateful! I've been at this for hours now and need to get this sorted
Thanks to any kind person who helps fix this!
1) Dial *#*#7378423#*#* and goto software info/configuaration. If it says bootloader unlocked allowed: no, then you CANNOT unlock it via ANY means
2) If it says yes (I doubt it, because flashtool has already checked this) then you can.
3) Flashmode has nothing to do with bootloader. Press volume up to get into fastboot (Blue LED) for working with bootloader, press volume down (Green LED) to work in flashmode, which is for flashing FTF's.
4) If you are trying to flash a FTF, then do not connect the phone until it asks
5)Make sure you have gone to C:\flashtool\drivers and run drivers.exe. Ensure you choose fastboot, flashmode and TX drivers.
6) Make sure you are on the latest version of flashtool 0.9.13.1
Can I ask what you are actually trying to do?
Also flashmode and fastboot and adb dont work on windows 8(.1)

Its not even booting, past the Sony logo so i cannot do anything (i can't do step 1 as you've asked). Its literally a bootloop. Can you give me step-by-step instructions to get out of this bootloop? I tried to install custom ROM but it died on me, and now its on the bootloop, which i can't get passed.

Oh okay. I'm using windows 8.1, so what would I do to fix the issue?
I have given my phone to the manufacturers to try and sort out but I have a feeling they will refuse to fix it, so any help would be appreciated. If i use a windows 7 machine, would it work? If so, how do I fix it such that it exits bootloop and allows me to access my phone. I don't mind losing all my data (although i think its lost anyway lol)
P.S. thanks for the reply.

Question is, will is definitely work if i use windows 7? I.e. is the fact that i'm using windows 8.1 the reason why it's not working?

I'm sure your batt is dead. Try the rubber band method. Give it like 2/3 rounds of it on the power button and hold it and plug in charger. it should charge with red led on. Pull battery and try again if it does not charge. Give it some charging and it should be able to enter flashmode to flash stock.

I don't think the battery is dead, as the led would just blink and wouldn't even show me the Sony logo.. Everytime i use the phone with the charger it goes into the bootloop, looping around the Sony logo and then switching off again, then the sony logo will show again, etc. I've sent it off to Sony manufaturers. Would they fix it (even if the manufacturers warranty is void)? Like, even if they charge a little (hopefully not stupid amounts of money lol)? If not, i'm going to try and use flashtool on windows 7 machine and hope that it works, as I've heard flashmode and fastboot and adb do not work on windows 8(.1), which is what im currently using :crying:

Yes (or, at least its definitely one of the reasons). Use Win 8 or Win 7 or Win XP.
If after that point you still have trouble with it sticking to flashmode: I also had trouble flashing via flashmode with one of my USB ports. I like to use the front ones on my PC but they don't work for every device. There is also a USB cable that I have that does not work for flashmode. Consider these 2 things

I'll try windows 7 when I get it back. And wow really? I didn't realise that using different cables actually made a difference? At the end of the day, if it charges the phone it should work! Lol, Sony know how to make things real complicated!

It's just a soft brick. What did you wanted to flash? Just flash a stock .ftf file with flashtool, or a kernel with recovery.

Well, first of all I want the phone to start up normally again so that I can use it.
What I did achieve up till now is that I can get it connected to flashtool in Fastboot mode.
I guess this gives me the opportunity to flash a boot.img first so that I can install 4.4 or 4.3 later.
But first things first.
Do you think flashing a boot.img could restore the phone in a state that it functions as a normal phone again?

My xperia t has gone in for repair. Before considering this though, could you try one thing to see if it'll help restore phone? Go to your PC companion (and no, its not a standard recovery which i'm going to suggest so keep reading!). Once you have done this, click on "Support zone". Click "Start" on the "Phone/tablet software update" option. Note, you do not need to plug in your device yet!. You should get an error message coming up saying device not connected. And once you get this, there should be a message asking you whether you are having "severe problems with your phone/tablet". There's a "repair my phone/tablet" hyperlink. I want you to click that and NOT the connect button. Once you have clicked that, please follow the on screen instructions. Tell me if this works for you I hope it does!

Why?
Because SONY decided that I have made changes to my phone and SONY now refuses to repair my device.

Ah that sucks! Are you not on windows 8? I've heard that windows 8 and flashtools don't get along, but if you're saying you've got your device into fastboot you should be able to flash it using flashtools!
Sony Xperia T LT30p dead resolved
OK, here it is for those interested on how to revive a dead Xperia device.
Yesterday my phone stalled at the SONY logo.
Nothing could be done anymore.
My phone has returned into normal state thanks to SonyXperiakiasT :good:
Follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2315572
Howto get into a state that one can flash the phone.
- download: LT30P_9.1.A.1.141_PL.ftf (the original firmware)
- install and activate flashtool-0.9.13.0-windows.exe
- at the SONY logo push on/off, vol-up and vol-down together
- when the phone vibrates an the logo disappears release all buttons and immediately after push on/off and vol-up button
- when phone vibrates release on/off button, keep pushing vol-up button and plug in USB cable from computer
- you will be in a state with a blue light at the top left of your phone.
- however you want to get in a state with a green led
- push vol-down and on/off
- unplug the USB
- wait for the phone to vibrate
- release the on/off button and plug in the USB
- Follow the instructions in the thread mentioned above and your phone will be revived.
All the pushing, releasing, plugging and unplugging is a quite delicate affair.
I tried it during several hours before I got a bit of grip on it and still I am not shure how I got into the green led state.
Try it, be patient and be shure that repair is within reach as soon as you have a green LED on your phone.
Good luck!
Hein

Hey so I ran into this same problem! my phone wouldn't do anything except boot up to the Sony screen, no lights no charging nothing
I figured it out, at least for me
>Have your flash ready to go via Flashtool
>Have your phone plugged into your computer via USB
>Hold the volume down button and then while holding it turn it on
you should have your green light and may have to hold the volume button the whole time until its done flashing.
Hope this works
FIX!
Hey the same thing happened to my xp T few days ago. My phone was rooted with UB. I was stuck on SONY LOGO too n my phone was rebooting from there repeatedly but I was managed to get into cwm n I installeddifferent kernels + Rome but it was no good. Like u said in your OP I couldn't get into flashmood too. When I select the firmware flashtools say preparing files then the phone reboots! Then flashtools say device disconnected!! The solution for this is when flashtools says device disconnected pull the usb cable n press vol up with power button n turn off phone. Then once turned off straight away press vol down n plug in usb cable n flashtools will start flashing. The important thing here is not to close the window that pops up when flashtool say device disconnected in red. Hope this helps, same prob worked for me so should work for you! Peace

[Q] Hard Brick or he die? :)

Hi everyone, i'm newbie here and, for first i'm so sorry formy bad english, but, anyway
My problem is serously hard, someone here having problem like me, for example - click.
Okey, so now my problem: Xperia C5303, i'm don't know which firmware was stay at this XPS until them became bricked, not my phone
Phone isn't boot, don't react to power\+ and - button, when i try to connect it to PC, the phone light up red when attempting to charge, remain solid red for 10 minutes before the LED switches off for around 5-7 minutes. The phone then use to go back to the red LED and the loop would continue. I take a multimeter, plug it at + and - to the batttery, when i connecting USB, RED light up, voltage going to ~3.20V, after RED light switches off and voltage going to ~2.8V and phone again charged to 3.2V and loop, loop, loop. If i disconnect USB cable with 2.9V-3.1V and press PWR button, RED light blinks 3 times, like them discharged. So, i can't put phone to Flashmode\Fastboot mod, for first i think, maybe not enough charging on battery for start flashmode\fastboot, BUT, I was wrong, i charge battery for 4-5Hrs without phone, just use AAA and AA charger laugh, voltage around 3.6V, connected to phone, connect USB and...nothing, just nothing, don't react to anyting, as I understand USB transmits a signal if battery is discharging And, when i connect charged battery and click pwr button, voltage started to fall as if the phone is switched on.
Soooo, in Flashtool, when i connected phone with pressed - button\+ button, PC determine phone like HID device!!!, wooow, how?
I install all drivers that i know, SEUS, PC Compasion, Flastool drivers, drivers from XDA worum for all Sony phones.
Flashtool log:

Your phone is indeed hard bricked. Sorry for that. You can try connecting to flashmode by using the technique this guy did: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54541794&postcount=1870

Remove battery and then connect USB with volume down button pressed.
My friend's Xperia E went into flash mode without battery, so there is a chance that SP will also get into flashmode without battery.
Or else try this if you had screwed your kernel:
Remove your phone's battery and put atleast 30-40% charged battery in it. Your can also charge your phone's battery by connecting it to another Xperia SP. Once you had 30-40% battery, try to boot your phone. It should get into bootloops, then you can connect it in flash mode.
I need to try 2nd method desperately but couldn't find an Xperia sp ...?

You do not need to think about how was it detected by your computer. You just need to make sure it is connected to Flashtool. Either way, you must retry the method I have linked you to, or try the one in this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54634835&postcount=35
Does your phone able to connect to your computer by any means? I mean does Windows ever detect any presence of device (noticeably the usual "installing driver" balloon or the "hardware connect" sound)?

no it says no device connected
You have to push Hard reset button (red button just near the SIM card) until phone vibrates 3 times. Then you push volume down button and then connect PC microUSB cable into the correct connector on your Z1.
Flashtool should see your phone. Then you can flash with flashtool back to your previous (stock ?) ROM.

Strange. Did you connect the usb cable to your phone AND maintain volume down button?
Because USB debugging OFF is only when your phone has started Android. When in Flashmode Android is not started.
So after pushing red hard power off button and phone vibrates 3times (it's important it vibrates 3 times) :
- close and restart Flashtool on your computer,
- choose Flash button (strike icon), choose the FTF of the stock firmware then validate and then check 'Flashmode' then OK, it will work few seconds and bring you a new screen explaining you how to get into flash mode with a phone and cable in a Window,
- take your USB cable in left hand,
- push down volume button with your right hand
- connect your cable in micro USB port AND maintain volume down for a few seconds
I decomposed the steps because it is important not to wait too long when connecting cable onto your device and launching Flashtool (that's why I prefer to launch it before, as described above), because if the phone detects current in its usb port, it starts system. It is important to be ready and having Flashtool launched BEFORE plugging the cable.
Send the results.

That's quite wierd. The fact that phone's LED becomes red is a good sign, i.e. going to flashmode.
IS it Flashtool saying the phone is in USB debugging ? If not, you can then flash after the LED ran red with flashtool.
Flashtool may say it's USB debugging OFF if Android is booted.
If in flashmode, Flashtool should say :
03/043/2015 15:43:18 - INFO - Device connected in flash mode
And then you can flash...

Have you tried fastboot? Volume up while plugging cable.
Perhaps you can flash a boot.img from there and use recovery at least.
This is what happens to my phone when the kernel fails to flash, usually after restoring a nandroid.

Ok you shouldn't have that in your flashtool log.
Without the phone connected to the PC, you should have the following message, especially "Please connect your device into flashmode" :
03/049/2015 16:49:48 - INFO - Selected Bundle for Sony Xperia Z1 (C6903). FW release : 14.4.A.0.108. Customization : Generic FR 1276-5833_R5C
03/049/2015 16:49:48 - INFO - Preparing files for flashing
03/050/2015 16:50:49 - INFO - Please connect your device into flashmode.
From my point of view, it doesn't seem your phone is powered off.
Then to Power Off hard press the red button near sim card, just above the chrome power button until phone vibrates 3 times :
(extract from the "basics" thread of the following post by the excellent DooMLoRD : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440565).
Then do the steps I gave you before.

Ok dude. Sorry but I can't help you anymore. Maybe advanced developpers could. My knowledge on flashing Z1 is 2 days old only
FYI, my LED is blinking 1 time red and 1 time green very quickly when I power on my Z1 in flashmode. Nothing on screen, but Flashtool detects my device in Flashmode.
Maybe, as proposed by markuz85, you should try Fastboot mode (volume up instead of volume down)... but I never tried this and I won't be helpful on that.
Good luck and tell us if you have got something.

Different from the OP, but I'm facing the same issue.... Trying to flash the XQ-AT51 firmware on XQ-AT52. Tried to use flashtool on one computer got a "bundle does not match connected device error". Tried a different computer using newflasher. First I followed some instructions involving removing the .ta files, flashed. That's when I first got the boot loop and corrupt screen. Then I downloaded the firmware again and left everything in the folder except "persist_X-FLASH-ALL-2389.sin" and got the same result.
Tried a different cable. Xperia Companion just says the device is locked. So does Emma. Just stuck. ?
Why don't you download XQ-AT52 Firmware instead of XQ-AT51 ,
and flash it using newflasher ?
Here is the guide for newflasher just to double check. w w w.xperiablog.net/2018/01/28/newflasher-guide-to-install-new-firmware-for-xperia-xz-premium-xz1-and-more/

Okay I was able to repair it using the Xperia Companion....
I didn't realized that I needed to start the repair before the phone was plugged in. ?
---------- Post added at 11:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:44 PM ----------
And in case anyone else is in the same situation. I re-flash the device with the AT51 firmware and everything worked fine. I'm now using the US firmware on the international AT52 version of the device.
After the repair through Xperia Companion. I just re-ran the same thing as last time (with all the .ta files without the persist file) after setting up the device and turning on USB debugging again. However this time I didn't get a prompt halfway through about flashing the persist partition.
Now everything works on the US firmware. Not sure why. This is literally my fist Android device so I know very little about all this. Just glad to have a working phone again. ?
anyone can help me
i have the same problem...
Anybody figure out why Xperia Companion fails as shown in pic above? My battery is charged too so not sure why it says needs to charge battery in Xperia Companion.
I'm also getting that error message as shown above in post # 11 when trying to repair via the Xperia Companion. Any help would be great!
Me too, having the same problem with my Xperia 1 SOV-40.
I had the same problem with my Xperia 5 ii after I re-locked the bootloader using fastboot (fastboot oem lock).
I could fix the problem with Xperia Companion. Here is what I did [maybe labels are not exactly correct, my interface is in german]:
Pre-requisites:
I did not use the original Sony USB cable, but a third party cable from Anker, also worked
Disconnect device from computer
Steps to fix:
Install and start Xperia Companion
Click "software repair"
On the bottom click "My device is not detected or is a Smartwatch 3"
Choose your device, click "Xperia smartphone or tablet"
Follow steps on the screen:
Disconnect and power off device (should already be)
Press and hold volume down
Connect device via USB cable, still hold volume down, the notification LED will turn green
Repair starts
Wait about 10 to 20 minutes until repair is finished
Screen will stay black and notification LED will stay green during the whole procedure
After these steps, Xperia Companion showed a success message and my device turned off. I disconnected the cable and started it (press and hold power button for about 1 second). The device first only turned on the notification LED in green, screen stayed black. After about 5 to 10 seconds, the device turned off again. I started it again (press and hold power button for about 1 second) until it vibrates, and it started normally.
Of course the device was reset and all data was wiped. For me this was no problem, as I anyway resetted it before.
Hope that helps

A few hours ago I suffered this, the problem with cable! I tormented 10 hours to look for other solutions to put the "ROM", being the official version (emma flasher) does not work! But it didn't work because of the cable (it was a "Baseus" cable, it was ok, but I think it was too long, 3 meters: D .
