Ever since I upgraded(yeah right..) to Windows Mobile 6.1 I cant play videos through windows media player. On 6.0 I used to watch MPEG-4, and ASF videos all the time. Since I upgraded though WMP wont play MP4 videos, and ASF playback is so choppy its impossible to watch. What can I do to fix this without installing another media player application?
Custom rom or stock rom?
Carrier branded device, or unlocked htc device?
Edit:
Actually, how about you give us as much details as you can about your device and what you've tried so far
Im using the official Windows 6.1 rom on an ATT Tilt w/o any other apps running. The MPEG files I used to play on my phone before were no longer supported by WMP. I tried re-encoding the files and that didnt work. I tried lowering the quality and that hadnt worked. I searched google and saw that WMP only supported mp3 and ASF files so I encoded the video as an ASF and that worked but playback was extremely choppy. I cant really think of anything else to do so I came on here.

Ok OK....What I want to know is how the hell did you get WMP to play it before????????? WMP doesn't play MP4 never did. Anyway, If you can play the videos you have on the Desktop Windows Media Player, hook up your, open Desktop WMP, hit Sync Tab, Sync your phone(and/or Storage card), select the video to sync list, and sync. Desktop version will convert for mobile version. If you can't play the videos in Desktop Media Player then you'll have convert the video in something it can play. TCPMP and Coreplayer are way better, but I use Media from time to time.

Does anyone know if the stock video player for LG880 (or O4X) can be configured to display subtitle.
An MKV I have tried to play with the phone does not show the subtitle, but on PC (via vlc) its displayed automatically.
If it's not possible, any good players to recommend?
thx :>

MX Player never fails
Play store link
Stock player can display subtitle with this condition:
Movie file and subtitle file must have same name and plafed in same folder
Example:
The_avengers.mkv
The_avengers.srt
No menu in player to select between subs file.
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app

i think what you meant was that the mkv file had soft subtitles?
if yes, you need to extract the subtitles out first using something like mkvtoolnix, then place the extracted subtitles (must be in srt format!) with the same name as your video, in the same folder as your video.
yea.. i guessed i meant the subs were the "soft" type, which could be toggled to display in vlc player on pc. So it's jus one video file by itself.
Thx guys for all the tips and suggestions, noted them all, and using MX player now.
If only there was a discount to make it more attractive to buy the non-ads version.
Avoiding ads and any form of bloatwares that would slow down the phone.
I have a few questions, hopefully someone can answer me.
1) is there a way to change the media player for google chrome? The default one that is plain black and white and barely any controls.
2) Is there a way to play subtitles for local video files on chrome? It's amazing that I can stream my files to my tv wirelessly through chrome, but I mostly watch anime with english subtitles. Is there any way to play subtitles?
3) I read that Chromecast was supposed to turn my tv on automatically, is there a setting to enable this? Or is it automatic depending if the tv has the ability to perform this action?
I recently purchased a Google Chromecast and I love it. It is a great tool, but I'm still seeking more bang for my buck.
I installed the Avia app which gives you more use with the chromecast. One thing I found with Avia is that I can stream a video on chromecast, but still use my phone without interrupting the stream. Just like how you can chromecast youtube, netflix, etc. while still being able to use your phone without interrupting the video. Avia works with any app that gives you the option to use an External player. (when you click on the video it says "complete action using" with Avia as an option.)
Some apps however only allow you to use the internal media player that comes with the app which prevents me from using it with Avia/chromecast.
I am seeking to be able to do this with any media app; however, I am specifically looking to use it with my NBA gametime app.
Just some notes: I have the ability to mirror my phone onto chromecast, but the quality is lower and this prevents me from being able to use my phone without interrupting the video.
I am using a rooted LG G2 on sprint Android 4.4.4 running Cyanogenmod.
NBA gametime is Chromecast ready app.

really? how do i enable it?
I noticed I get the icon to mirror my phone to my LG tv immediately when I'm using my youtube app but not when I play a movie with the stock video player. Is there a video app that has built in Miracast? I'll try VLC since it mentions Miracast and see when I get home.

Native miracast is hit and miss as Google seems to have coded it to not fully work as to move users to Chromecast. Try LocalCast on playstore and play with the settings to see if that works.
I personally have never been able to cast successfully on my N6. I caved in and bought a Chromecast lol
I'll probably get a roku and I think it can cast to it but it might need a casting app for the roku and for the phone
