Is it possible to take the stock email app from the Moto X and use it on another device. My Moto X died and now am using a Galaxy S4 and would love to use the stock email app from the Moto X. It's the best one I've used to date and would love to be able to use it.
Updated: Here's a link to a site that has a download for the email app that I was looking for. Huge thanks to scorneil for sharing this with me.

I do not believe its a Motorola app, I believe its actually a Google app for email other than Gmail. So yes, I do not think you would any issues side loading the email app, if you can find the APK, but I am not 100% certain about that.

they are correct the gmail app is actually a Google app so no matter what phone you change to as long as you download gapps you should have it.

OP is talking about the email app which is not the same as the gmail app. Gmail you install from the play store, the email app you cannot (and is a system app). TouchWiz does not include the stock email app as Samsung has provided their own version of an email app.

That is correct, I was referring to the system app and not GMAIL and someone provided a link to a download for it that should work on all newer phones.

I'm looking for a really good email app that has true HTML and allows pinch zooming while view an email. It also needs to have smooth scrolling while viewing an email.
Any suggestions?

I did not see a Xoom there, but a Galaxy tab email apk. It looks great but I get a network error when it tries to download recent emails.
I personally like Enhanced EMail. I use it for work (Exchange 2007 Server w/Activesync) and a Yahoo account on a normal basis. It works pretty well. I also like the fact that It uses the native calendar and contacts list in the OS and doesn't have to install its own apps to provided that functionality. It cost me 10$, but it was half the price of the bloatware they call Touchdown and works better.
Check your pm.... ozone

I don't have an option to use SMS in Hangouts on my Moto X. Though the play store indicates I am on the latest version of hangouts because it does not give me the option to update, in fact my hangouts app indicates I am on version 1.2 instead of 2.0+.
Anybody have any ideas? Anybody else using SMS in hangouts on a Moto X?
Sent from my XT1053
I don't think the 2.0 version has hit the Play Store yet. You have to be on 2.0+ for the SMS integration.

So is the description in the play store simply wrong? It gives the change log for 2.0 which suggests to me 2.0 should be available. See screen shot below, taken just now with my stock T-Mobile Moto X.

Chances are they are doing a staged rollout. But if you don't have 2.0 on your phone, you won't have those features.
Anybody here with an X who CAN do SMS with hangouts?
Sent from my Nexus 7
I received 2.0 a few days ago. When you first launch it, it will ask if you want to import your SMS messages. After that it works fine for SMS, MMS, and Hangouts. It's a little confusing at first but you'll get used to it. If you have a hangouts conversation and an SMS conversation going on with the same person, they will appear as two separate threads. However, you can switch between them using the account selector at the top of either thread.

Yea the market description is wrong. Just look in themes and apps for the update version that allows SMS. For it to work on version you need version 2.0.122

Hey all-
With the while exchange email issue with kitkat how is everybody accessing their mail? I am using the lite version of touchdown for my email but I do not love it, is there a better app out there? Or better yet is there a non-rooted work around to use the default mail app?

I'm using cloudmagic. It's OK, but I prefer the stock app. I don't know of anyway to fix the issues with the stock app.
Have you looked at Aqua Mail?

I have used EE (Enhanced Email) for a while. It allows you to skip the exchange enforcement rules, and is based off stock android client.
I will try out EE I gave aquamail a test drive and did not love it

What Exchange issue are you talking about? There is some issue with pushing but if to change in setting to poll every 5, 10, 15 or whatever minutes instead of push it works OK. Definitely is not necessary to use 3rd party email app for this.

How does this work if the Moto X has Email.apk and Exchange.apk instead of EmailGoogle.apk and Exchange2Google.apk?
I was following another thread but it hasn't been updated with a non-flashable set of files (I don't have a custom recovery).

your talking to users who are likely NOT rooted (such as myself). This method doesn't work unless you're rooted. The manifests don't line up between the two installs, which prevents EmailGoogle.apk from installing on the X (without root).
The only way around this issue is to use a third party app or keep an eye on your account settings and if something is stuck (syncing now), uncheck sync and re-check.
I just stay on 4.2.2 until they release 4.4.2. It's not worth the effort.
Try MailWise (beta) from the Play Store. It's replaced the default email app to access email from Exchange servers. Pretty impressive app for stability, features, and developer responsiveness.

I just checked and my note 3 is the same as my note 4, which do not look like gmail. Can you post a screen shot?

Because the Note doesn't use the Google stock email app. Samsung built their own based off of AOSP,
It's ugly, and the fonts are HUGE, but at least it has split-screen mode in landscape. If you don't like it, there's a lot of other email apps out there.

Thanks! But this sucks - it's like going back in time!
Thread moved to Q&A - please post in the correct sections - thanks.
You can install any other email app you want. If you want to take advantage of the Samsung features though, you'll need to use the ugly one.
Since I got this phone Gmail no longer works for me now. So im force to use the default mail client.
