I tried to post this in the thread for the Open Zio Revamped but it wont let me since I dont have enough posts yet. lol Anyways on to the questions.
First off when I install my apps and try to move them to the SD card they disapear from the app list after I reboot. How can I stop this from happening?
2nd When I get a call from sombody sometimes it has the wrong picture for a contact. I had this problem with Open zio as well though.
Thank You
Well i have been doing some research and this happens quite often apparently. What causes it is the loader boots up before the SD card is scanned. So when I force close the ICS loader and open my app draw they appear. I cant seem to find a way to change when the loader will load up though... I would like to make it load a few seconds later to give the sd card a chance to scan first. Does anybody know of an app or anything that can do this? I have looked and cant seem to find one.

I can confirm the wrong pictures on phone calls from time to time, but the sd card problem i havent personally experienced...

I have found a work around other than force closing ICS. I downloaded an app called FMR Memory Cleaner that cleans the cache of a lot of the system apps including the ICS Loader and so when that is done ICS then pics up the data from the SD card. I think it could be possibly the SD card is slow to read for one reason or another because I did notice when I had Open Zio before it would often either take a while to load all of the apps though they did load or the Loader would crash and when it reloaded then the apps that were on SD would show. Although this has happened with both of my SD cards it was more noticeable on my 8 gig one. If anybody else is getting this issue I hope this helps until I or somebody else finds a more permanent fix for this what seems so far to be a one of a kind issue lol.
Ohh and when I said it happens quite often I meant throughout all androids not just zio or with any particular rom. Just to clear that up.
I haven't tried open zio yet. I'm contemplating it though cause I have a larger problem and like you I can't post where I need to yet. I need to enable usb debugging but can't access settings.... or much else.
You mean its not available in the settings any longer? Or the settings crash whenever you try to get in them. I probably cant help but if I get time ill try to look up your issue and see if I find anything. What did you do before that happened? Have you tried resting the phone back to the base setup?
My phone is 2.2.1 from Cricket and I also have one contact that shows the wrong picture too. Could it be a sync issue or a google server issue?

chalk another one up as I am also having the sd card issue. if i FC the ICS launcher it picks them up but only for a short time. as soon as the phone sleeps it reverts back. im looking for a read booster for the sd card but i havent found one that seems appropriate yet. ill post back here when i do.

I've personally had alot of problems with SD cards that come with the phones that I've had, I don't know what it is with them but when I change to a new SD card my problems stop( in particular the T-Mobile optimus t was the worst) . Have you tried reformatting the SD card? Maybe that will help.
Sent from my LG-P509 using xda premium
yeah reformatted and re installed all my apps ( i did a full copy of my sdcard just in case i had something i needed to save, but didnt copy it back to the sdcard)
Still having same problem
Its a known bug in the 2.2.1 build, it's nice to see that someone is trying to keep the Zio community going... Mine has a bad battery and I wanted to get a better phone anyways since there is no chance the Zio will ever see cyanogenmod or even an AOSP gingerbread build.
If anyone can prove me wrong I'd donate for the effort even though I don't use it anymore...

Same here Mattix I gave up on the Zio a while ago just happened to come back cause a friend asked me to see if there was ever a port for CWM for Sprint users. I got a HTC Incredible and haven't looked back.
I thought that by rooting and putting a new ROM on my phone that it'd help out my problems of it rebooting randomly and having a non responsive internet 50% of the time but it hasn't. Anyone else having these problems with their Thrills? About to go back to the iPhone even though i really don't want to
I have occasional reboots, but not often. I know mine is more tinkering with my kernel.
i only had mine reboot once only cuz i killed gta3 the rong way and it crashed
yeah mine does it any time that it has to think about something... i go to post something on facebook and about half the time it freezes and then reboots. I think i've pulled the battery out a couple dozen times this last week because of it just stopping on me

There is no wrong way to close an App/Game.
It's the developer of the app that causes the problem.
ok now i'm finally getting it to where it's saying different apps (mostly clockworkmod) are failing and to either force close or cancel...
Well I jumped out of gta3 with the home button and tryed to go in app manager to close it and probly ran out of ram and crashed instead of backing out of gta3 with the game menu

I just wish Android OS suspended everything when you push the home button and had push notifications instead of persistent checking. All this background running is killing our batteries and causing lockups.

True multitasking has been built into Android (similar to Linux, which it is based) from day one. Here to say it, but that would be a longshot. Best bet would be to become more scrupulous on what apps you download and more critical of the makers when their programs go rogue. Plus turning background data off in settings can help. Fyi.
Note: I don't want you to feel as if I'm being overly critical or a douche here, just realistic with what we have and what we are dealing with.

I hear ya, I know its wishful thinking. I just wish android was as efficient as iOS. Android having Backgrounding from the start was a big perk, but I gotta hand to apple for seeing how inefficient it was and hold off until they found a better solution. Android needs to grab the bull by the horns and convert to that solution.

Background data allows you to receive emails and your apps to update periodically while your not using your phone. This is the basis of 99% of your notifications. It's kinda the point of having a smart phone in the first place.

Did I read this article correctly? It says we had 9.15GB of initial storage space out of the 16GB. So after the firmware update were given 9.23GB. So I'm doing my math correctly here? 9.23-9.15
iF so then we're really not getting any space back.
Thoughts?

I think that they are saying the we will get 9.23 out of the 16GB vs. the ~7 we get now.
Adding a macro preset would have been nice too.
you arent going to just magically get 7 gigs of storage back, the space is taken up and thats all there is to it, the update is giving back about 300 MB's but the big deal is you can now move apps to sdcard (yay a new feature from 2.2!)

Thanks for the straight forward answer. And for not being rude about it. I only have a 16 gig SD card anyways, I don't like having a whole lot of things to filter threw on my phone anyways. I haven't read anything online about how the storage works on phones with no external memory so I was wanting to know.
As far as flashing roms and all, is there a small allocated amount for the rom to write to? Just trying to understand it more that's all.

Play music. Google drive. Google+ for photos. Fixes any and every need for onboard storage. I came from an 8gb nexus 4. With 32gb I'm laughing. Way more storage than I can dream of.
I didn't want to start a new thread for one simple question so I figured I would ask it here. My wife just asked me a question I have not thought about so I would like to know if anyone can answer/test it for me. She asked if she got an htc one and her phone would not boot up after awhile of having it, if she can still get the pictures/videos off the phone to transfer them to the computer. Or would she lose the pictures/videos? We are expecting our second child in December, so she doesn't want to risk losing new pictures of the baby. Can anyone test this for me?

I am not sure if the phone completely died (what I assume you mean by not boot up) if it would still be recognized by a computer to get to the photos. However, every picture I take with my phone is instantly transferred to my Dropbox account, so I never worry about losing anything. With proper backing up to a computer and managing Dropbox (for example, take pics, they are automatically synced to Dropbox, at some point transfer the same pics to your computer, then delete them from Dropbox so your Dropbox doesn't fill up), the chances of losing anything are slim.
Hope this helped....
Yeah, she is on her 7th phone now, so she very cautious and worried that her next phone will have an unreal amount of issues. She isn't one to have a whole lot of steps to achieve something.

The model number is N900A. I did get my phone through AT&T. I've heard that there are some serious problems rooting and installed roms etc through AT&T and Verizon. The Note 3 is my first Android device and I would have to say I'm in love with this phone. What I'm not in love with are all these apps and other nonsense running in my background. I hear rooting and installing different roms can solve this. I have used Clean Master from the app store to clear cache and free up RAM, but moments later these same apps open right back up. The Note 3 has 2.4GB of RAM available, correct? I haven't put much on this phone in the way of apps. I did put some music and bought one app to change the icons on my phone. When I check Clean Master, I'm always using between 1.6-1.8GB of RAM. Thinking to myself, "what is the purpose of Clean Master if all of these annoying apps just open themselves back up?"
Other thoughts would be:
How much RAM will I free up by rooting(assuming of course it's possible)and installing a fairly simple ROM to change the overall look and feel? I'm looking for simplicity. Just want something that works, doesn't eat a lot of my RAM, and isn't known for a lot of bugs/issues.
I'm hoping some of this information helps someone help me. I'm currently running 4.3. I've also researched some of the positives and negatives of rooting and installing roms. It seems worth it if I can free up some RAM and get rid of all these apps and such running in the background.

You have not read about safestrap yet have you? You can't really flash anything to this phone but safestrap gives you sort of a work around at the cost of internal or external SD card space. As for CM11, that is a big no. Only slightly modified stock like ROMS work right now and as I said they are not truly flashed to the device. Safestrap lets you set your phone up sort of like a dual or multi boot PC. At boot up you pic which of up to four ROMS you want it to use.

Any word on if/when that will be a possibility?
Also, meant to ask earlier(it's also a little too late since I've already done it)does using Kingo Root disable Samsung/AT&T updates like KitKat?(still blows me away that KitKat has yet to release for this phone on AT&T)

The Note 3 has 2.4GB of RAM available, correct? I haven't put much on this phone in the way of apps.

Nothing to do with RAM. RAM is where apps run. When you install an app it gets installed to storage (think of storage like the hard drive on a desktop computer).
When I check Clean Master, I'm always using between 1.6-1.8GB of RAM. Thinking to myself, "what is the purpose of Clean Master if all of these annoying apps just open themselves back up?"

In Windows, the more free RAM you have, the better. In Android, any unused RAM is wasted RAM. As soon as you free up some RAM, Android's memory manager is going to load something in the newly freed space. RAM cleaning programs are a waste of battery, a waste of time (both yours and the computer's) and a waste of storage (the space they're stored in). Android has a great memory manager - let it do its thing.
How much RAM will I free up by rooting

None. You'll be using storage to store su, busybox and SuperSU. Rooting has nothing to do with RAM.
installing a fairly simple ROM to change the overall look and feel?

Install Nova Launcher. It's an app, not a ROM, so there's no warranty issue, no bricking issue and it's a welcome change from the monkey-designed TouchWiz. (The old joke that if you sat a million monkeys at a million typewriters for a million years, eventually they'd have written all of Shakespeare's works? They'd also have written TouchWiz.)
Just want something that works, doesn't eat a lot of my RAM

The amount of RAM an app uses is determined by the app, not by the ROM or the launcher (which is the "look" of the phone when you turn it on).
and isn't known for a lot of bugs/issues.

The stock ROM works, doesn't use that much storage (I collect apps like junkyard dogs collect fleas, and I have just a hair under 29GB of free internal storage - and a lot of junk apps I have to uninstall, because I just downloaded to help people. And as far as bugs go ... I haven't seen any in general (I had to return 2 Note 3s and one of the ones I have now, which is a refurb, may also have to go back - but that's all hardware issues). If you want looks you change launchers and lock screens. (And there's a lot you can do with the settings to make things look different.)
There's really only one reason to root - because you need (or really want) to run an app that needs root permissions.
There's really only one reason to run a different ROM - because it has features that you want that the stock ROM doesn't.
All the rest is experimentation, fun and watching geniuses (and there are a lot of them on xda) at work. But remember, rooting alone voids the warranty. ROMming not only voids the warranty, it can mess up your phone. Is it $700 worth of fun? That's for you to decide. Rooting (as long as you don't use root status to mess anything up) is safe. ROMming, not so much. Still fixable - in most cases - but the first time you're stuck in a boot loop, you'll panic longer than it takes to reflash the phone.
some of the positives and negatives of rooting and installing roms. It seems worth it if I can free up some RAM

If you run Kit Kat you'll free up some RAM, but the official update will be out soon anyway
and get rid of all these apps and such running in the background.

Turn them off.
People are taking molehills and making Olympus Mons out of them. There are so many much simpler solutions to so many of the "problems" people want to "solve" by rooting or changing ROMs.
Oh, I forgot one other very important reason to root, and as a child of the 60s it should have been the first one to occur to me - sticking it to the man.
Thanks for all the help to those that responded. The last reply in particular would have been very helpful had a I not jumped the gun yesterday. I rooted my phone yesterday. DIDN'T try anything else like new themes/roms. Just rooted the phone. After about an hour the phone having issues. Freezing. Apps not opening. Then, I unrooted. Haven't had a freeze since, but the phone is still doing odd things it wasn't doing before. Apps appear to be taking longer open etc...I went to send a text message about an hour ago and when I clicked on the text to begin typing the big envelope icon covered the entire screen looking very pixelated. ugh....
