[Q] Problems while on the phone - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. I'm using my Z1 withour rooting on .136 version.
While I'm talking on the phone, I noticed that there are some problems annoyed me quite a lot.
1. I couldn't enter the chat page on any messaging apps like whatsapp, line, etc.
but I could only enter the page showing the list of chats instead. (No matter I enter the app by launching them on home screen or by pressing the notifications)
2. the three buttons on the bottom have no response if I'm not on the call in progress page. Nothing happen when I pressed back button....
3. Tried using the Note small app to jot down some info while on the phone, the small app did launched normally but I couldn't input any thing in it since the keyboard is not popping up.
I am not sure whether I'm the only one having these problems or do I have something set wrongly? These problems are so frustrating since I couldn't reply to any message while I'm making calls until I finish my call...
I tried to factory reset my phone but end up these problems are still here.

it s software problem
u should use PC companion to repair ur firmware (if u have root access it will void by repairing)
if u have root access and want it u should search for another pre-rooted firmware in dev-section that be more stable.

[Q] Pattern lock -> Too many tries

I was playing around with the pattern lock and eventually got the 'Too many pattern attempts!' message, with it asking for my Google username and password to log in.
No matter what, it doesn't accept my username/password. I am 100% sure I've typed it in correctly.
This bug has been around for over a year with many people reporting 'bricked' phones without even doing anything particularly naughty with their phones.
This is the Google bug that has been posted on it: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3006#makechanges
As you can see this has been around for over a year. The 'null'-in-password trick doesn't work, nor does the spamming-home-button trick.
My phone is rooted and with the Voodoo Lagfix-only custom kernel. Any suggestions?
Do a hard reset / wipe. That's my suggestion.
Try booting into recovery (Home Button, Vol Up + Power), and resetting your cache and wiping it. Then try logging in with your Google account. If all else fails, try changing your Google password on the PC then logging in on the phone. And then if it still fails, looks like you need to flash the phone again. Next time, don't enter the thing wrong! Stop rushing haha .
I wasn't rushing, I was playing with the lock. It takes about 30 times before it's permanently requiring the username/password. But really...you can't blame me for not expecting this. :/
I'm currently trying to flash a new ROM but I've run into another problem - I can't get it to boot into downloader/recovery. It's not the lack of the 3 button combo - I've managed to reach Recovery and Downloader ONCE each in the past, but never again since.
And now with all my efforts to boot into recovery/downloader, it now cannot boot into normal usability mode (or in my case, locked mode). Instead, the Galaxy S logo loops endlessly.
Sigh.
Have you read the thread for the fix for Galaxy S variants that are lacking the 3 Button Combos? It's in Android Development. Maybe try that? Or, can you still connect the phone and connect with Kies?
I can't turn on the phone anymore, meaning no changing to USB debugging etc. And I'm having problem accessing recovery/download, even though I definitely HAVE done each of them once before and therefore do not have the 3 button problem.
Without turning on my phone, Kies can't detect it
So what happens when you power on?
Now, it shows the first Galaxy S splash screen, then shows the boot logo, then nothing. The boot logo continues to glow endlessly.
Be patient, i waited up to five minutes. If you see the s logo glowing/shining youare ok

Yeah it's continuously shining. Haven't left it for up to five minutes though... And even then it probably won't help since I'm still locked out of the phone, and unable to access download/recovery mode to reflash it.
After waiting for a long time, the logo disappears, screen goes black. Menu and back buttons light up. Nothing else.
Looks like your going to have to reflash your phone again. Download the desired firmware, open up Odin and put your phone into download mode and start the flashing procedure. Be more careful next time.

Good advice considering he said his 3 button combo stopped working =))
All I did when I got that black screen was adb reboot recovery and wiped and phone bootedup fine. But only if you have debuging enable and and sumsung drivers. Hopes this help.

Ok i did the same thing, and spent hours googling.
Tried the key combinations to restore, but never worked.
Heres what worked for me, but, be warned all your contacts will be lost if stored on the phone.
From another phone, call your locked number.
Answer it on the locked phone, then hit the "back" button.
This gives you full access to the phones menus etc.
Hang up on the phone you called from.
Now, go into Applications / Settings / Privacy / Factory Data Reset.
This worked for me whereas all other methods did not.
Once your phone is up and running again, be sure to create your google account on your phone.
That way your protected again. If you didnt previously have the account set up from your phone, like i didnt, then you cannot log in of course.
This works...give it a try. Hope it helps.

dear friend dont worry or panic... i'll tell you a trick , go to the samsung customer care and tell them that your phone gets heated up very often and today it just refuses to boot up normally...
since your device cannot get into recovery mode or download mode the company will never know that you had played with the system files in the device or not... (rooted )..
since the samsung people will also try to get your device in recovery mode.. but when it will not go to the recovery mode you will get a mother board replacement under warranty.....
this heating up of the device is a common problem in the galaxy here in india.. so use this excuse and i know it works 100% ... (just dont tell them that you had rooted and lagfixed your device )
What you describe sounds like a very large security hole if I am reading it correctly.
Are you saying that even if your phone has been locked out from too many lock screen failures, that just answering an incoming phone call gives you full access to the phone? Really?
I just checked on my phone and while I can answer an incoming call while the screen is locked, if I hit the back button or menu button, I just get the lock screen.
I'm missing something here...

[Q] Problem with keyboards on stock ROM DDLA5

I have an issue with keyboards on DDKL5 and KL1 stock ROMs. Here's how to recreate the situation:
1. Keep a text box focused - talk, market, messaging, any text box - and the keyboard open (any keyboard, including Samsung keypad/Swype).
2. Let the screen time-out. (Wait till it turns off)
3. Press a button to turn on the screen, you should be presented with the same text box.
4. Type something.
Here is where the problem is : The keyboard won't type anything at all. You'll be pressing buttons, it'll be suggesting words, but there will be no text output on screen. The only way to get it to write is to restart the app, or wait for some 30 seconds.
Anybody else have this problem?
I'm rooted, running CF root kernel.
Even i was using DDKL5 for couple of days and felt bit lagging compared to LA6.. so i switched back to LA6..

I thought so...If it were a widespread issue, there would be more threads about it
I keep having these weird issues all the time. On my laptop, KIES won't start. Anyhow, that's another thing. I'll go dunk my head in a bucket of cold water, see if that helps. I could also try to flash a clean stock ROM, full wipe and all, and see if the issue persists, then restore each app one by one to see what's causing the problem. Too much work!
Thanks for telling me
I have no issue on LA5 or never on any previous ROM KL7/LA1/3/4
I think you shold have backup user data with titanium backup or else you feel better. Hard reset device n just restore user application. Dont restore any sustem junk of previous backup. You can backup Contacts with inbuilt function, SMS with many application available on Market. Hope problem should be get solved.

Locked out with pattern unlock

Hey, my nine year-old nephew came to me today with a question.
He has managed to lock himself out of his xperia x8, forgot both the unlock pattern and his google details.
I tried to force a factory reset with pushing the two buttons left/right under the lcd and the power but cant get it to work.
Any suggestions to what i can do?
This is so much easier with phones with straight-forward recovery mode
Thanks in advance!

TRY THIS:
- Have someone call the locked phone.
- Answer it.
- Leave the call connected!!!
- While leaving the call connected, push the "back" key over and over. NOT the home key!!!
It should eventually take you to the home screen.
- Go to the home screen,
- Go to settings,
- Go to google accounts,
- Add another google account,
- Sign in to that one--- (must have wifi connected, as you're trying to communicate with the google servers while you're on a phone call-- it will prompt you to turn on wifi, if you forget)--
- After it accepts the new account credentials, and logs you in, hang up the phone, and go back to the lock screen.
- This time, use the new google account you just added, to bypass the slide lock pattern
Let me know how it goes!
Thanks for the great answer, but unfortunately it refused to take me to the homescreen.
Im gratefull for every tips i can get,
Worst case scenario i would have to grant him root access and cm7
what a thing to play with

If he doesn't have anything important on the phone, then download and install Sony PC Companion 2.1, and do the following:
- Turn off the phone, and unplug it from the PC
- Turn on Sony PC Companion on your PC
- In PC Companion, enter the Support Zone tab
- Go to Update Phone Software
A window will pop out, saying that it cannot find your phone
- Click on Fix Phone
- Click on Continue
A window will pop out, saying that you will lose all your data
- TICK the BOX
- Click on continue
An update process will began.
Wait for it to show a window with all the SONY mobile phones
- Find your phone (X8)
- Click on the phone.
Now all you have to do is follow the on-screen instructions. It will tell you to hold the back button and plug your turned-off X8 to the PC, then it will erase everything, and download the original 2.1 ROM to your X8.
The exact wording for the above instructions inside Sony PC Companion might be slightly different, as I'm using a Polish language installation.
If you don't want to erase your data on the X8, then try this LINK.

[Q] Screen not working after updating from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2

I updated my phone just recently and came across this major issue.
I used Sony's own tools for updating that leaves two options "Sony Companion" and "Sony Update Service".
Both giving the same results for my phone, even a full reinstall doesn't work.
When done updating you set your Xperia ZR back on as the software says.
It starts normally showing the Sony logo, Xperia logo and some Xperia animations.
When it gets to the lock screen and asks for your pin code to unlock your sim-card everything is fine.
Here it comes.
When setting your screen in standby and back on the touchscreen function is not working anymore.
Other buttons are working fine (power, volume, photo)
I talked to a Sony employee and he came to the conclusion that it's a Hardware defect, that sounds to me like a bad excuse.
The screen works the first time but not the second time it's turned on.
Looks to me like a software problem.
Are any others of you experiencing this problem with the Xperia ZR? Please, let me know below!
I don't have a solution yet or if you have a solution, let us/me know down here.
Thanks in advance!
It sounds like the firmwarepart with drivers four the touchscreen didn't bite. If it's anything like the 4.2.1-4.2.2 in HTC that part needs to get through.
Is there any way of restarting the process through companion?
Skickat från min HTC One via Tapatalk 2
A temporarily solution is to touch the screen when pressing the power button to turn on the screen.
Example: Touch with your left index finger on the screen and press power shortly as you normally do, then move your index finger over the screen.
But you have to do this every time you turn on the screen!

No, I haven't tried that yet, because I'm not familiar with flashtool.
It's easy.
1. Do a search for flashtool and download the exe file.
2. Install it. Install the latest drivers by going to the install drivers menu in the program.
3. Download the ftf file on the android development section.
4. Save it in the c drive folder for flashtool-->>firmware
5. Press the big flash (lightning symbol)
6. Chose flash mode
7. Your firmware should show up. Choose the C5503 firmware.
8. It will tell you to turn off your phone and while plugging in, keep the back button pressed. Since the zr doesn't have a back button, hold the volume down button.
9. It should do everything automatically. You'll be on a new os. Reboot and you're done.

I'll try that :fingers-crossed:
Did you also try the update to 4.2.2?
It's still bugging me that they released it and it didn't work. (for my Sony Xperia ZR at least)
Great it worked!
I took flashtool from androxyde.github.io and I also took the firmware from there.
For me the first 3 times flashing went wrong, but it's nothing to worry about just reconnect the USB while pressing volume-down button and retry.
So I am now back to android 4.1.2 and the screen is working fine without any problems.
Thanks djpeesh!
I have the same problem but I don't want to revert to 4.1.2 is there another workaround? This is really stupid SONY says that an app can cause this but there is pretty much nothing on my device. I did a hard reset and it didn't help. I'll try something else to see if I can avoid the downgrade. I think everything started when I activated debugging mode.
Same happens with mine.At times I am not able to accept phones calls by sliding. i have to press the power button several times to switch off and on the screen and then it functions again

I managed to make the screen work again but then it stopped like before. I suspect that there might be a SIM card problem is your sim a genuine micro SIM or is it like mine a chopped mini one?
I sended my Xperia ZR back to sony, because I talked to a SONY employee about this and his answer was to send it back for repairs. After all **** installations that didn't work. At the look of it the frimware for the screen is not inplemented in the new 4.2.2 update. If you could rip the 4.1.2 screen frimware off and migrate it with the 4.2.2 update that could work, but that is a bit to advanced for me.

Well, that wasn't the problem anyway I just left mine in the repair shop, they tried to blame for messing up the software of the phone but I used only SONY official firmware, so let's see what they'll come up with next I hope they won't make me pay for repairs because this will be a very sad story.

I used only software from this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2384512 and Sony Companion repair tool. I don't know what their problem was, probably just want to score some money or something.
I know this topic become legacy already, but how do u guys solve it? My xperia zr screen becomes crazy if overheat a bit. No matter what firmware used. Have to off screen and then on back. Very annoying.

Wired grey rectangle

Today I noticed that if I slide my finger from the left side of the screen to the right side, a weird grey rectangle appears for 1 second. I first saw it on incoming call while trying to slide my finger to answer. I didn't install anything new and I'm running the xperia z1 stock rom.
What is this?

It's a grey bar , I would suggest backing up your phone and repairing it with pc companion, I have never seen that before, it almost looks like the grey bar that appears when you scroll all the way to the left in the apps menu.
hi,
i've noticed the same issue in my phone!!
did the backup and repair with pc companion solve the problem?
For sure is an Software failure and I never saw this before too so you can make also a Factory Reset or Repair the phone with PCC. In one case or another should be gone.
Thanks for your response.
I try with a task killer app and when i kill all of them it disapear and after a while its coming back.
How can i identifie who is the bad app?
I don't want a factory reset because my phone is without root so i can't perform a good backup.
To repair with PCC will not erase my data?
[I came from galaxy S1and S2 all the rooting operation and rom installation were far easy than here, and without bugs(like the camera in the z1)]

This is tricky because if it's some app on your phone probably you can uninstall that app or update that app to avoid this issue. So in this case even if you make factory reset or repair with PCC you can still have the problem. I don't know how patient you are but the best way is to find first the app which cause the issue and then we can see what we can do. With task killer you kill the apps which you selected before, when the phone go in deep sleep he kills, so probably you should switch off the task killer and stop the apps one by one and see if anything change on your screen. Stop one app and go to see the screen, and again. All like that.
