Today I noticed that if I slide my finger from the left side of the screen to the right side, a weird grey rectangle appears for 1 second. I first saw it on incoming call while trying to slide my finger to answer. I didn't install anything new and I'm running the xperia z1 stock rom.
What is this?

It's a grey bar , I would suggest backing up your phone and repairing it with pc companion, I have never seen that before, it almost looks like the grey bar that appears when you scroll all the way to the left in the apps menu.
hi,
i've noticed the same issue in my phone!!
did the backup and repair with pc companion solve the problem?
For sure is an Software failure and I never saw this before too so you can make also a Factory Reset or Repair the phone with PCC. In one case or another should be gone.
Thanks for your response.
I try with a task killer app and when i kill all of them it disapear and after a while its coming back.
How can i identifie who is the bad app?
I don't want a factory reset because my phone is without root so i can't perform a good backup.
To repair with PCC will not erase my data?
[I came from galaxy S1and S2 all the rooting operation and rom installation were far easy than here, and without bugs(like the camera in the z1)]

This is tricky because if it's some app on your phone probably you can uninstall that app or update that app to avoid this issue. So in this case even if you make factory reset or repair with PCC you can still have the problem. I don't know how patient you are but the best way is to find first the app which cause the issue and then we can see what we can do. With task killer you kill the apps which you selected before, when the phone go in deep sleep he kills, so probably you should switch off the task killer and stop the apps one by one and see if anything change on your screen. Stop one app and go to see the screen, and again. All like that.

Had the phone for few days and a problem when i clicked for example the "MESSANGING" on my home screen it lead to aim screen to i click back it went to another app then i lcicked home i went home and clicked messanging again and it went to another screen of a app why isnt it go to messagning? it works now but it did that twice!!!! it froze everytime i tryed to quickly share a photo via facebook it froze one time there.well a new problem happened..... i locked it the nwhen i lciked the power to unlock no puzzle unlock wasnt there it was just my backround.. then i keep lockign and unlockign no puzzle i shut the phone off and restated?
Your best bet is to wipe your phone and flash a fresh rom onto it. What rom are you using?
its regular updated 2.2 nexus build number FRF91 idk anything else? its not rooted
Oh ok so purely stock.
1. Backup all your contacts:
*Open Contacts app
*Press menu softkey, select Import/Export
*Export your contacts to sd card
2. Go to settings -> privacy -> factory data reset [THIS WILL WIPE ALL DATA ON THE PHONE]
Your phone should restart, and you should be good to go.
thanks bro... why u think its glitching liek that because maybe all the apps i got like 20 from market and task killer? or what can it be? by the way i factory restored it once not because of this problem but jsut to clear all apps quickly... so i just did it lets see how it goes from now....
No problem, I'm here to help.
I remember reading recently that task killers from the market actually may do more harm than good. I don't exactly remember why, but that may be your problem...
P.S. I always thought task killers required root...I guess you learn something new every day
hahaha true true.. so these problem u heard about before or first time?
I've never heard of your specific issue but anything is possible
gotcha so right now i download most apps such as aim, calorie counter, magic marker, pandora, yahoo mail, drink recipe, shazam, shopsavvy, WHERE thats about it.. no task killers no battery displayers no nothing.... hopefully this problem wont occur....
Good. Just send me a PM if you run into the issue again
gotcha.. thanks anyone got any ideas why it would occur..... apps? virus?
Were you using a program to customize the icon? Like Folder Organizer?
nope.. but i did have astro zipper program i had lock up 2.0 i had werid thigns just got a habit of downloading i enedup delting lots but problem occured i just did a factory reset so far no problem.....

From what you're explaining, its seems you're experiencing the touchscreen issue. Most if not all of the N1's have this problem. It's a known defect that HTC chooses not to admit too. As of now there's only a temp fix which is to press the power button on & off. Its a problem that randomly occurs. There's nothing that'll specifically trigger the problem, it just happens when it happens. Flashing to a custom rom will not solve your problem becuz its hardware related. If you haven't voided your warranty in any way, your best bet is too warranty exchange/repair your device until its fixed.
ya im going to call warrernty now and see what the deal is!
I have a samsung captivate. It is a early model, I got it the day they became available. The phone will not always answer an incoming call. the green answer button comes up but will not swipe. Anyone else have this problem? Will froyo cure this?
Youre gonna need to add some more info....
are you on stock 2.1?
if you did flash a custom Rom which one and which kernel/ modem are you using?
Did you do a restore with titanium? (this is where I had problems when I flashed)
captivate wont answer incoming calls Sometimes
yes complete stock, no mods whatsoever
I had a problem like this when I first got my Captivate as well. My problem was that it wouldn't swipe all the way across the screen. This got very frustrating while driving. The solution, surprisingly, was to make sure my hands weren't completely dry. Without traction on the screen my phone didn't register my fingers.
I don't know if that'll help but there are also other dialers out there on the market that you can try legitimately without rooting or flashing a different ROM (if you're trying to avoid doing those things).
I would do a flash back to stock and do a master clear to rule out any software issues. You can do this without having to root. You just wont be able to back up your apps and system config.

It is and always has been completly stock.
Are you rooted? I had this problem every now and then... not very often.. I figured it was due to one of the apps I was running in the background, that was sucking up all the RAM and the phone became unresponsive. I backed up my apps, and flashed stock and then restored only the ones I absolutely wanted... I am sorry, I dont remember which app it was, just know that it was a background process that was collecting some kind of stats! Hope that helps!
By the way how long ago did this start happening?

i had a similar problem even tho i had a custom rom my incoming calls didnt come in at all.i had to Reflash my rom.. idk how similar this situation is but i agree with the other guys.. try reflashing stock
phone is not rooted. I cant tell you how long it has been happening but it appears to be more frequent as of late. The one thing I can ad, when it does it, it may do it several times in a row
Thank you guys for helping the newb.. I appreciat the input!
I occasionally get the same problem on my SGS even before rooting

The time it took you to go back and forth on this forum, you could have flashed back to stock and master clear to troubleshoot. The problem isn't going to fix itself.

Thanks for all the HELPFUL input
I will try flashing stock
This may be a common sense answer but usually when it doesnt swipe all the way accross for me its because of to much grease ( or sweat) on my hands or on the screen like after lengthy phone calls or if my hands are dirty or something. Try cleaning the screen well, and washing your hands and such. Always fixed for me.
by swipe do you mean it doesnt move at ALL or it goes half way or you cant get it all the way to the other side to answer?
Yeah, i know that when i first turn on my phone and try swiping, nothing will happen, it will just stay green and not respond. After leaving my phone on for a couple of minutes, it usually corrects itself.
This is also a common problem for stock users wanting to use a lockscreen replacement (i.e. widgetlocker).
If you try using widgetlocker without any lagfix, you can get phone call screens you can't interact with for a few seconds.
I have had a similar issue both stock and rommed. I find a lot of time it does have something to do with friction on the screen but also if I have low signal it will happen as well. My phone will actually freeze up to the point of having to remove the battery, this same thing happened on my old Samsung Blackjack II.

Hi all. I'm using my Z1 withour rooting on .136 version.
While I'm talking on the phone, I noticed that there are some problems annoyed me quite a lot.
1. I couldn't enter the chat page on any messaging apps like whatsapp, line, etc.
but I could only enter the page showing the list of chats instead. (No matter I enter the app by launching them on home screen or by pressing the notifications)
2. the three buttons on the bottom have no response if I'm not on the call in progress page. Nothing happen when I pressed back button....
3. Tried using the Note small app to jot down some info while on the phone, the small app did launched normally but I couldn't input any thing in it since the keyboard is not popping up.
I am not sure whether I'm the only one having these problems or do I have something set wrongly? These problems are so frustrating since I couldn't reply to any message while I'm making calls until I finish my call...
I tried to factory reset my phone but end up these problems are still here.

it s software problem
u should use PC companion to repair ur firmware (if u have root access it will void by repairing)
if u have root access and want it u should search for another pre-rooted firmware in dev-section that be more stable.

Hello everyone,
My HTC One M7 is stuck on the boot screen and I really don't know what to do anymore. Yesterday I deleted some music and 4gb of pictures from my phone to make some space. After that I checked for updates It said an update was available regarding some bugfixes and other issues. I let it download and install. At the end of the install process, I think I saw just the normal updating screen, but with the red pyramid exclamation mark icon. After that, it rebooted just like normal, first the white HTC screen, then the startup sound, and then the white HTC One screen. Only this time it didn't go further than that. My phone is not rooted or tampered with in any way. The only thing I did is download some cracked apps. Also I think I didn't update most of my apps for 2/3 weeks because I didn't have enough 'memory space' apparently.
I know a factory reset is the easiest thing to do, but if it's possible, I'd really like to fix the problem with all my data intact. My pictures etc are all back upped, and I have the HTC backup thingy (I think), but still, there's some things like WhatsApp messages I'd really like to keep.
I tried to just let it boot, maybe taking a little longer, but after 2 hours, the device gets pretty hot, and I'm afraid to let it overheat. However, after maybe half an hour/hour the white screen gets a bit brighter, indicating that there's still maybe something happening inside.
I'd be very happy if someone could help me with this!

In your phone's present state if you can not get back to Android OS, then your best option is a factory reset. You will lose your personal data on the phone.
Performing a factory reset using hardware buttons
If you can’t turn HTC One on or access settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using the hardware buttons on HTC One.
Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button and then press and hold the POWER button.
Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.

To be honest some of those cracked apps (which I wouldnt admit to use here) most likely changed things in the system which caused the update to fail. I would do a full wipe and stay away from cracked apps unless you like things like this happening.

It's just the standard 'a friend told me it was a good idea', only I didn't know it could screw up the system so hard.
I just tried wiping the cache partition in recovery mode, which unfortunately didn't help.
Is there any program out there that can still backup my files in some way or make me atleast access them? Or was it necessary for me to root the phone beforehand?
So, there's no program to still backup my files in any way?

Unfortunately there's nothing you can do, If you had a Custom Recovery you'd have some options but not with stock. Flashing a custom recovery requires an Unlocked bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe the device
At best you may be able to use an RUU to restore your device (depending on you CID, MID and current version Main) But that also will wipe all personal data including the sd card.
Well I realized that the only thing I could do is doing a factory reset. After resetting my phone, the problem persisted. It was still stuck on the boot menu. So unfortunately, I'll have to send it for repairs. Thanks anyways for all the help and have a happy 2015.

Did you send your device for repair already? Does it have warranty? If there's no warranty you can still unlock your bootloader and fix this fairly easily.

Yeah I sent it already. Well it should have warranty anyway, since they give you 2 year warranty with the phone, and the HTC One isn't even out for 2 years. It should be okay. I just wanted to let them fix it, so I don't have to bother. Thx anyway. :good:
Hi all !
I'm a retired recording engineer from eastern Québec, Canada, enjoying retirement and keeping busy buildingand fixing audio equipment and restoring vintage British motorcycles.
I'm having a very strange problem with my Moto G5 (not Plus) that started out of the bue earlier this week. When the phone is locked, be it after locking it manually or after exceeding the preset time, and I receive a call, I do not get the phone logo on the screen anymore. If I want to take the call, the screen remains dark and I can't simply swipe it. I need to press the "start-stop" button, then a white box appears telling me who is calling and the padlock appears at the bottom of the screen. Then I have to trace the security pattern and the phone app appears, but on the in-out call screen instead of showing the button that would allow me to take the call. Instead I have to swipe down in order to get the box that allows me to take the call or reject it. I did countless Google searches and went through all the settings but I couldn't find any mention of that problem. The weird thing is that the phone was working perfectly one night, and then the following morning I had that problem. Can anyone help ?
Welcome to XDA
Was the phone updated overnight?
Clear the system cache if possible on this model.
Try in safe mode to help rule out 3rd party app interference.
It could possibly be a virus, rootkit or the hidden users settings have been corrupted.
The rom itself may have been corrupted, not necessarily anything nefarious... maybe just a high energy particle that flipped a flash memory cell read state. Atomic particles playing god, I hate that
Worse case solutions, factory reset, if that doesn't work reflash last known good firmware.
If all that fails it's likely a hardware failure but this is probably the least likely cause.
Hi !
Thanks for your reply. As far as I can tell there is no recent update. I tried everything you suggested except the factory reset because I dread reinstalling all the apps, but I guess I'll have to bite the bullet. Hoping it's not one of those pretentious atomic particles... ;-)

Try disabling the lock screen etc. Go back to where it needed no password to use.

I'm not familiar with that phone.
In general, try clearing the system cache.
I don't like messing with the phone app data but... first backup your contacts then start clearing data in the associated phone apps.
If a hidden user setting has been toggled it may be very hard to find/correct unless you know how. A factory reset would do so.
If that fails the firmware has become corrupted and needs to be reflashed.
If all that fails it's likely a hardware failure, either the mobo or possibly the C port PCB.
A C port pcb failure can do strange things on a Samsung like loss of internet/phone connection. I bring up the C port pcb because they get a lot of wear and tear... and they're a lot cheaper than a mobo.
