Yeah this is right!
I also had a Xperia Z before, and i used to swim to it.
ITS NOT FULL WATERPROOF!
THE WATER MESSED UP MY CAMERA AND THE CAMERA WAS CAPTURING OR RECORDING EVERYTHING WITH BLACK DOTS OR PIXEL, WHICH WAS DIRT.
SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND USE ONLY FRESH N CLEAR WATER.

hehe couldn't resist to test it hahaha, but i read here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fr7q6SbX8Do
that it takes a good hour to get the normal volume back... so i think it's normal
Well, after more than a half hour my volume got back.... so people who get this same problem, i think it has to do with some protection. The speaker have to be dry to get the normal volume back

Pre ordered from Hi (Netherlands) and got it yesterday
30m to an 1hour and the loudspeaker will be fine, the same thing happened my Xperia Z . Its a protection " Thing "
I expect this question to appear on forums everywhere as more people get this phone and try it out in water.
I must be too old and remember when everyone had a waterproof radio for the shower (as they were advertised everywhere as the perfect gadget gift idea).. Which was fine until water got on the speaker and it got all muffled. Same thing with the XZ! And perhaps why we don't all have radios in the shower anymore!

Whoops Ive called up three to exchange my Xperia Z as I thought it had developed a volume fault.
I also peeled of the screen protector as the operator had asked are you sure the screen protector plastic is still attached ?
Doooh
Now the question is to fit or not fit the new supplied screen protectors that came with in the box ??
The screen looks so much sharper and clearer without it.

It just happened to me. You know what I did? Placed the Z's speaker against my notebook's fan, like 10 cm away. In less than 10 mins I received a notification and the volume was high again! So I guess blowing it with hot air does the trick..
I have just ordered myself a c6603 model (UK) and was worried because my bro said that the z has speaker probs but now I have read this thread I am not worried anymore. It does make sense to lower the speaker volume when in water because if you think about it, when the speaker is on it vibrates causing pressure variation so in theory it could suck in water through the protective mesh at full volume. But my acro s doesn't lower the volume when under water or wet and its OK, strange how the z seems to need a little extra protection from water but then again it is an expensive device I suppose.

I had the same Issue, I read on a Forum this is normal after 1-2 Hours all Water was gone from the Speaker side and the Sound returned to the normal!
Guys, does it interfere the headset sound?
I mean, when my Z gets in the water, for about 1 hour I have both the loudspeaker and the earphones working with a very low volume...

Back Glass crack, help?

Hello guys,
I'm from Brazil and here we still don't have the new Xperia Z, but I bought one in Europe and now I have a problem.
I really don't know how, but the glass on the back is cracked. It's on the inferior left corner.
The problem is that now I'm not able to use it without looking this crack.
Is there any place that has this glass??? I don't think it's easy to change it because it's waterproof, so I guess it's not that easy.
Sorry for my bad english, but I really need help of you guys.
Thank you

It's easy to change, the back part is just glued to the front part, there was a video that showed that you can remove the back part just by heating up the back part.
But I don't know where you can buy spare parts I think it will be expensive though.
Here is the disassemble video:

Here is a site where you can buy spare parts (Found in the description link of the video)

I don't hope it was because of some heat source from the phone itself. That would mean trouble for all of us.

He might not, but I can imagine that it's annoying when you know that there is a crack on the back.
Same as when you do a test to see if there are dead pixels, you see some, but you only see them when you do the test, many people might be annoyed by the fact that there are dead pixels.

Yes, I saw it, thanks for that, but it's out of stock..... unfortunately
between you and me.
Glass of the phone is "piece of s_h_i_t". Annoying and "unlimited" finger prints makes this phone looks like $200 Chinese copy.
Plus another problem with screen cracks like on Nexus 4.
Great job keep it up :silly:
Another Broken Class
Yes same here, my back glass cracked...... Its was in my pocket then I pulled my phone out and put it on a leather couch, within seconds I heard a "Tick" I picked up my phone and the glass had cracked.
Hot in the pocket and cold leather couch made this glass crack. also happened to my wifes phone 20mins ago when she put it on the kitchen bench.... that's what made me write this to this thread.
Massive fault with this phone. Totally ruined the IP rating now which was the reason why I brought this phone. And there is no where selling replacements of glass yet.

same issue is with i hav given my phone in service center they are annoying that it was a physical damage but after request they accepted the phone said that there is no scracth and pressure on it we send this phone to there head office in the research team in manufacturing plant they will check the phone heather it was external damage or itself hell this time sony customer service is very poor in the custumers service apple and samsung are vry good aplle was best in case of customer service i left my phone on charging overnight more than 9 hours dont knon when the glass is broken when i wake up and remove my phone the back glas is broken a hair line type crack is there from top to bottom edge to edge it was not noticable but it was broken hell this time with the sony poor customer service even the service center talk rudly what can we do the its not tough as steel sony was clamig that it was the toughest phone in the market and all ....
This could be a serious problem that could affect all devices, I always charge the phone at night, stays that way like 7-10 hours, I didn't thought that it could crack when the temperature varies. Not cool SONY!
Wow, this topic got me worried a lot.
After having a look at this video I tought it would be strong:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=o3yMw2L3tJA
As that guy sure is smacking the phone all over the place without any damage left to the phone.
I think your problem must have something to do with heat when charging.
But that should not be a problem as this phone is also "snow proof".
Taking it from the snow to inside should make it crack aswell then?
Sure hope you guys get your phones fixed soon.
Kind regards, Stefan.

[Q] Waterproof Against Ocean Water

Will the Sony Xperia Z1 work in ocean water? I know it'll work in the shower, pool, etc. but I was wondering if anybody had taken it to the beach or gone snorkeling or swimming in the ocean with it yet. And if so, what was your experience with it? I am asking because I am planning on getting this phone and I currently have a waterproof Sony Cybershot DSC-TX20 and I've taken that thing everywhere and it hasn't failed me yet, so I'm curious if the Xperia Z1 will be more or less equal to the water proofing of the DSC-TX20. Thanks!
In the user's manual it us very clearly stated. No salt water immersion.
Sendt fra min XPERIA Z1 6903
Yeah...touch screen doesn't like salt
Maybe it'll work but you'll scratch your screen if you don't wash it right away...
But I wouldn't recommend that..
Sent from my Z1
Wouldn't recommend it. The sea water is bad news for the rubber seals and will cause them to become brittle and fall apart. That's why u don't see many soft rubber things in the sea only hardened plastics.

How Repair Aluminum Case chip (Xperia Z1)

Hello guys,
Unfortunately i put my Xperia Z1 on my pocket the other day and when i got it out i saw a 1 milimetre chip on the aluminum casing, probably from my keys.
Is there a way to fix this? Maybe brush it with sand paper ?
It is only 1mm wide but i hate watching it

No mate, don't try that.
Even the finest sand paper will ruin your phone.
You will have to learn to live with it...

Mini jack and water resistance

Hello guys,
I just did a small test with water resistance on this phone by putting this phone into the water.
The problem is that the mini jack stopped working.
It just won't recognise connecting any headphones, the sound is being played on the speaker.
It's been already sth about 20 minutes and it still didn't change, should I be worried (because I'm starting to be)?

Do You guys also have such a problem after putting your phone into the water, or is yours mini jack working normally just after taking it out of water?

Well after my Z1 got fixed I noticed no issues at all since this time. I can take a shower with my Z1 everyday and it will survive, just always make sure flaps are totally safe.
Mine stopped working after i washed it. Gotta blow into it and let it dry for a few hours.

So in Your case it's quite normal that you have to wait some time until it gets dry and then it will always get working back again?
I'm just asking, because now I don't know whether I want to put it back into water. Maybe this time it won't "heal" itself.
Xperia z had a better solution for that, I don't know why they have changed it.

I think the main feature of water proof is protect your phone from worst water accident like drop in water, wet in rain to keep phone alive. Water proof always work well with brand new devices, but im not sure after using a couble of months
ps: DO NOT SINK IT IN WATER BY YOURSEFT AND GOT FAIL

Yeah, now I surely won't do it myself, only washing the screen, but I will pay attention so that the water doesn't get into mini jack port.
When I had Xperia Z i could put it into the water and there was no problem at all, Xperia Z1 should be improved in the water resistance, but as I can see it now, it isn't, it even got worse.
The flaps were a better solution.

You just have to check on the condition of the rubber seals on your flaps after a while
Btw if it still have warranty send it to Sony service to check water proof, if it is manufacturer fault they will fix, or not you must pay .

If you're still using your Z1, getting a new one, or repairing it, my advice for you next time is to NOT test the phone's water resistance. Take advantage of water resistance in case your phone falls in water ACCIDENTLY. Underwater pictures are fine, but make sure you're brief with the camera and you dry the phone right away after you're out of the water. There's no reason to risk destroying your $600 phone to test or neglect its resistances. To my knowlege, Sony doesn't repair water damage, even under warrenty. You have to pay money for the damage.
Despite the Z1 being a premium grade phone, don't trust the ads100% of the time.

Well, normally I probably would do that, however I like to change phone every couple of weeks and this will last shorter than waiting for the phone until it gets repaired.
