Hi, I'm having trouble trying to flash the google play edition rom onto my HTC One (Verizon). I have tried unlocking the bootloader with htcdev.com and it gives me the error: Error Code: 160. Error Reason: MID Not Allowed. I tried to change the cid to 11111111 but that doesn't work either. Also rumrunner doesn't work. I have done a lot of research and can't find any fix for the problem.
Other information:
Android Version 4.4.2
Hboot Version 1.56
Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance.

if you can't unlock bootloader you can't do much else. pretty much everything else is dependant on it.
I think the error message you're getting when you try and unlock bootloader is because Verizon (through your device MID) does not allow it.

Look, on a locked bootloader, you cannot do anything what ur trying. Verizon phones cannot be unlocked using dev unlock. Only Rumrunner. Make sure that u have HTC Sync Manager installed on ur PC. Run rumrunner again. Rumrunner is the only bootloader unlock solution fr Verizon. Also, make sure USB debugging is enabled and fast boot in power settings is off

Correct me if I'm wrong but Rumrunner won't work for him either because he is on 4.4.2. That version can't achieve root which is required to s-off. And until s-off is achieved, you can't flash any ROMs...

Yep....
After hours of research I feel stupid because this can't be done at the moment. Anyone who is a Verizon subscriber is SOL after updating to 4.4. Can't be done. End of story. Untill then I'll patiently wait. Glad I have an AT&T S4 running CM11 which was done without using a PC so I'm happy about that. The phone I have with Verizon is through work and sense is garbage and battery life is abysmal with all that blotware. I really want CM11 on my HTC One :-/
Does firewater work?!?!?! Use firewater!!!! It works I'm pretty sure with the newest update!!! Link here!!! http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/ Use firewater and see if it works on 4.4.2 if it does then ??????????????

Firewater does not work either. Really hit a brick wall with this one. Its a shame because I was really looking to use CM11 with the HTC one with the nice display its got and everything
There's a way.... Me and my friend are getting closer to possibly downgrade bootloaders on moto but keep the operating system....... Sorry for that off topic, but there's always a way!!! Unless its Samsung lol, sorry for the off topic OP

Not if you have a Verizon HTC one running 4.4 anytime soon lol
Bet somebody could crack it... Blow the qfuse.... Or is that only moto? I also find it funny how my phone can run the same as the top of the line smart phone running sense 4 now I has sense 5!!! and cyanogenmod 11.
Sent From Rezound Running Sense 4. S-Off
When that happens please let us know. So wait you're running CM11 with sense? How does that work? Also are you able to use the remote app that runs on sense stock? I have used the smart IR remote app on my S4 running CM11 which works great with smart TV's but not so great with non smart TVs at least from my experience with it. that's the only thing I'm worried about losing when and if I'll ever be able to get CM11 on my HTC one

Okay lol, were getting all of our info for moto right now, reading boot sequences the way in which everything boots, the structure of the bootloader, where the qfuse is located and how we can possibly fry it. My question is. What actually unlocks the HTC bootloader. I know the unlock code.bin But what "actually" let's you unlock the phone? Questions to think thats where you get into the thought of how to hex or trick something such as rum runner/firewater does. Its unlocks and makes you s-off. I read somewhere that it just makes your phone think its s-off, could this be or not to be? I'm finding all these answers..... Were going to try something tomorrow, could possibly brick moto or allow us to unlock WISH ME LUCK!!! I have rooted romed a HTC one, can someone answer one question on the HTC one. When in FULL stock recovery or when someone goes into it, does it just do like my phone and set it back to when I go it (not factory reset) or does it allow options just like wipe cache factory reset and stuff like that? Please someone answer that for me
Also I know how to write the code and make exploits and everything, but how in gods name do you edit a .bin file and see what the ACTUAL ORIGINAL code was. I know its not just some computer person is going to sit down and write ¢=¥=€℅£{`¶¥°`°©=¥ ain't no way in hell nobody gonna read that, then there's the way to change that to hex which is like CB190 FD240 something like that idk, the thing is, there's over 50,000 lines of that, but that simplifies to binary. I can't get anything to change my hex to binary. Because im pretty sure you can change binary to text but i cant get anything to change hex to bainary properly. I can change binary to hex then whatever the foop that symbol crap is. But not do it backwards. It simpily wont work for me.sorry for that noob question, but i havr an idea and need to know. Sorry if my words are wrong I'm tired.
With the IR blaster I'm unsure. I didn't test it. With 4 ROMs I switch back and forth from my SD card. I can backup restore/install and be rebooted with a totally different ROM in 10 minutes like I got bored with sense 4 last night, now I'm on sense 5 woot.

S-Off doesn't really have much use on this phone. Since it's Qualcomm, kernels can be flashed in recovery anyway, and the only real reason for S-Off would be to downgrade to previous firmwares.

so if I use HTC.com to unlock it, I will be able to flash roms and stuff from recovery as normally I do with my HTC 4G LTE ?(been doing it with the EVO and EVO 3D also)
i think the s-off method is preferable above HTCdev.
Warranty wise that is.
if you are s-off you won't be registered @ HTC for having unlocked your bootloader and thus reduced your warranty...

what if you don't want htc to know that you are rooting your phone for warranty purposes
any way of doing this? anyone working on s-off?
No idea if the phone has had a chance to reach anyone outside of the EU (and slow roll out even over here.)
I'm guessing that when the phone is in the hands of a lot more people the race will be on to be the 1st to deliver s-off.
Until there's a desperate need for me to flash an updated radio or maybe a bootloader I don't appear to need it though.

Hey guys,
A couple of days ago I recieved my One after I sent it for repairs.
They fixed my camera issue but changed my phone back to s-on. So now i'm left with a relocked phone with s-on.
I can't seem to re-unlock my phone by using htc's unlocking guide. After flashing the token it doesn't go into unlocking mode.
So i need some help with that. I'm on hboot 1.56 and 4.4 stock sense. Not rooted. Stock recovery.
Htcdev isnt able to help me so i completely rely on you guys.
Golden tip means a nice cold one.
Cheers

have u got a new unlock token or is it the same one as u used earlier? If u are using the same, I guess it may not work coz of the newer hboot. why don't u try getting a new token using another email id and trying the unlock bootloader process.
Also, it would be better if u uploaded a snapshot of the error message
Thanks for helping me. I have already tried 4 new tokens on different emails. I'm not getting any error message. It flashes succesfully.
But the "Unlock mode" doesnt pop up. It did when i unlocked it the first time.
Believe me when i say that i tried everything known to men ^^.

Got the same problem.
New phone I'm afraid.
Or a VERY slim chance of an ruu, but I doubt that as I've already reflashed the firmware, and an ruu would only add system and data to that.
Don't have the option for an ruu anyway as I'm on 3.62.401 that or something newer isn't available.
So.. if you're guy sorts it I'd love to know how.

Yeah its a very weird issue. My guy sent my issue to their bootloader devs. They are now compiling some sort of RUU that will completely reset my phone to when if came out of the factory. So that means: New bootloader, s-on and locked. I really hope it works since this is driving me crazy.
Ofc i will let you know if it works. I also asked @mike1986. for his help. He's kinda the god of The One.

Cool.. what firmware you on? Model etc..
So, my still rooted and S-On Sprint HTC M8 just received a notification that an update is available.
I AM going to eventually root and s-off this thing, but I am going to be going on a few trips soon so I figured it would be best to wait until after just in case something goes wrong so I won't be out of a phone while not at home.
Just wanted to know if anybody can confirm if the current firewater S-Off and/or Weaksauce temproot methods still work if you install these on an unmodified Sprint M8.

I think you're rolling the dice there. Even if you find one that can be S-Off'd with the new firmware on it that doesn't necessarily mean that the next person will get the same result as we have seen phones that are identical in software and firmware both fail and succeed at obtaining S-Off. In short, I think the it's always great to get a sampling of results but I do not believe we would be able to make any accurate conclusions, regarding S-Off anyway, from the data.
I suppose I am interested in knowing whether even a single M8 with the new firmware is able to S-Off with firewater but that's just the curiousity inside me.^^

Well, I'm about to give up on achieving S-Off. Being that I don't tinker with my device the way that I messed around with my previous device, I might be throwing in the towel. I'm possibly even giving up root. This is my first device that truly didn't need to be rooted.
But then again....there's free tethering....

If you're already at home....well...you're cheating and you should feel bad....so bad that you might as well root anyway because things can't get much worse for you!
Just to let you all know....
Went back to a stock Rom, locked my bootloader, then received the .13 update(could only find .9 stock to use) then the .15 update and was able to unlock my bootloader again with the same .bin file I received from HTCDev, flash a custom Rom, and restore my root with no problems at all.
Tried Firewater again for the heck of it and it actually chugged one bottle....but then whelped me again! =/

Hmm well I'd done everything else except for that and it failed so locked it and it worked. Maybe it was just a fluke but either way only took a couple seconds to both lock and unlock again. =)
Edit: Yeah pretty sure you do have to lock it if you're stuck S-On like I am. S-Off most definitely doesn't need to though.

Well I noticed that in certain areas I actuallly start picking up the Spark network where I never exceeded 3G speeds in the past so that is somewhat exciting. Pretty much....We've discounted "batches" being the case by virtue of serial number comparisons and, as far as I am aware, no one has been able to identify any kind of pattern to it.
You would think that the newer the phone the less likely you could s-off with it...and perhaps that is the case....but we've seen people as recent as this week go in and get one, take it home and firewater s-off with it while I've had mine for much longer and can't...maybe the ones people are getting were sitting around for a long time I guess...All pretty much educated (or not educated) guessing at this point.
Hey everyone, i am new to this XDA developers site, but have many years of experience with android devices, my latest one though, well is the htc one, i would like to know, is there any risk to using the ''Firewater'' S-OFF Command, i am just wondering this because i would like to unlock the full capability of this wonderful device, and i only have it a week or two, so i would not like to damage the device by only having it 2 weeks, i love it, but would like to unlock the full potential of it, and i also love sense and stock android, so would be seriously interested.
Bottom Line, Is there any risk of using the ''Firewater'' S-OFF Tool?
Thanks very much,

nope, no risk, either it will work or it wont, if it fails then there is a new one called Sunshine s-off which apparently works on the M7 but you have to pay for it, try firewater first.

like I said, it wont hurt it at all, it will either work or it wont, read the s-off thread if you don't believe me, ive ran it 50 times to try and get s-off and ended up doing it by java card because firewater failed. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2632351

having S-Off etc is the best ever i have done on my htc couldnt imagine now to have s-on again its the ultimate lol.
firewater works however it did take quite some trys back-then before it succeeded, i did alot of reading before i decided
wanting having s-off, pros/cons but conclusion now and after the reading before s-off was a no-brainer (for me)
i remember having the same thoughts to about the bricking but after reading through many topics here and other sites
i wasent that scared of it mostly nervous if it worked or not xD as the guy above says, either it works or not. for me it took many tries to as said, but ones having s-off
you wont look back i believe i guess its a preference since we all have our personal favorite if wanting s-on or off.
i would "advice" reading more through about using firewater getting inputs, i had same thoughts as you with using it at first as long with rooting etc
and i never knew or tried those things actually before i joined this awesome forum and started to use it regular. i see you are quite into the android
from your text to thats good advantage and should help as well with choosing to use or not
im aware of my low post count xD but i dont post/reply just to get posts up, only if im able to give input there may help in some way
either way, wishing you goodluck if you decided to go for it!
hah as Seanie280672 says to it might take alot of tries, its just keep going eventually it should succeed
Thanksks for the information, so it will not brick or will there be very little chance of bricking?

just remember s-off actually means security off and opens up the nand to full write, its no longer protected.
therefore if you try to flash something that's not for your particular device, it will no longer fail with an error, it will flash and brick your device, s-off itself doesn't brick, the user bricks by flashing the wrong things, so make sure you know what you are doing before you go s-off, if you don't really need it, or don't know what you are doing then don't bother, there's so many users on here that don't actually know how to even identify their correct RUU for instance, and that's simple stuff, but downloading the wrong one and flashing parts of it that don't belong to your phone = a brick, but again, that's the user, not s-off.
on the other hand however, s-off can help you out a lot, take a look at the below thread, he flashed the wrong software whilst s-on and has knackered his phone up, if he was s-off then it would be easily fixable with a simple downgrade of HBOOT, but because he's s-on he now has a brick: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/help/help-active-cmdline-overflow-1025-bytes-t2841484
S-off is complete control of your phone. Which is the dangerous part. The process to s-off is simple and will not brick you. Just be sure to remember your model ID (like mine is M7_wlv) because all ruu files will state what model number it is and for what firmware.
The reason to want s-off? Search your specific device's ruu files and see if there is one for your version or high that is officially signed by HTC. If there is none, you will want s-off to downgrade or flash the unsigned ruu. As S-on, you cannot downgrade firmware or flash unsigned ruus

you can flash any custom rom as long as its for your phone, even if your s-on, you just have to be HTC Dev unlocked, just make sure its for your phone and read the OP and instructions, the guy who bricked his recently flashed CM11 designed for a completely different phone and the kernel messed one of his partitions up, he didn't read the details and instructions, it couldn't be fixed because he wasn't s-off, the fix only works if your on HBOOT 1.44 and you cant downgrade that without s-off.

Yeah, as long as the software is for your device it will be perfect, but you'll need to know the actual model number of your device, mine is m7_ul, but yours might be just m7, so be weary of what yours is, the best way of finding this out is going into the bootloader and looking at the first characters on the first line, i'm good at all this stuff, its that im just weary of making my device an expensive piece of metal and glass, if you need help, you can always send me a message

that's not completely true, a custom rom built for M7_UL will work just fine on the M7_U, they are the same device, just one has LTE and the other doesn't, just means those parts of the rom wont be installed.
the only rom's you cant use are HTC ONE M7 custom rom';s built for Spirint and Verizon devices.

Ah right! I guess the ul has 4G? You learn something new everyday!
Alright, so a friend came to me with an M8. It appears to be fully updated and is running 4.4.4 android. I was able to unlock the bootloader, and I have TWRP installed. However, every time I flash Superuser.zip, it says it works but does nothing. So, since I see lots of roms, I guess its possible to have root, but how to I obtain it? Been working on this for an hour and a half and cannot find a logical way that works.
First off to help @BD619 this thread needs to be posted in the Q&A section which is set there to prevent this post. Secondly, s-on or s-off? Did you try installing a rom with Root preinstalled? Did you try root checker from play store to verify root was installed?
Sorry!
Just mis posted. My bad.
S-On. Cannot seem to get S-Off either. Mainly just trying to sim unlock it and what I have found says that requires s-off which requires root. Lost. Not at all like my old S3 or EVO 4G. LOL! Those rooted no issue.

Sunshine s off is the best bet to s-off. Download their app, and from what it sounds, you are pretty close to stock anyways! You will most definately need to do more research on the sim unlock, thats a subject i never mess with. Good luck!!!
Well I am doing this for a friend and I am not spending any money. If anyone knows of at least a root, that gets me further.
