Hi all,
I am currently on stock 4.1.2 JB build of this years January.
Whenever I start my phone, the internet/data connectivity is a G, so GSM rather than H/3G. That is, until I search for networks and set it to my carrier (being 3 IRL) BUT the thing is it is actually already on 3 IRL, so it definitely isn't roaming. Why does this happen? Do I have to live with it? It never occured with a previous stock build, or Maclaws CM10.2. It's not major, it just gets really annoying. Cheers!

GSM seems to be prefered when Mobile data is off. Unless it doesnt swtich to 3G/H while using Mobile data (e.g. browsing the internet) there shouldnt be any problem.

No, see, I permanently have my mobile data on. I have my phone off over night. When I turn it on, it is always on GSM no matter what, until I manually search networks and switch it back to 3G/H (by selecting my network)
So theoretically, GSM isn't preferred because I have 3-4 bars of 3G/H.

You might try to flash baseband from Ireland (Three) instead of the one (i assume) you are using at the moment, as it is specifically for Three.

Alright, downloading that one now. I used that one before but had a bug where my SMS would disappear...
It's just, yes I am using that one right now, but I flashed a Three specific modem.

Well I just flashed the modem and the problem is still there.
If I flash that firmware with Odin, do I need to wipe data? Or can you update stock roms with a dirty flash too?

Flashing it on top of stock rom with Odin would be like updating (normally no user data/apps lost), but you would however lose root and potentially custom recovery (post reboot after flash). Taking a nandroid backup prior this is advised, as always.

A few months ago, i had the non-function problem with my camera after using the firmware update code, on my SG I9000. I resolved that with some help from a friend, by downgrading to Eclair (JM1_JM1_U_JM1.tar) and switching the camera files - the usual method. After reboot, the camera was working fine but appeared the problem with the network - "NO SERVICE".
Till now, I used different versions of android (Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread) to fix it without any luck.
If you know any other method, i'll owe you one big time.
Thanx!
Note: I have to say that, before having the camera issue, I unlocked my rooted phone using "GALAXY_S UNLOCK" from Android Market.
maybe you can try to flash your phone to the latest firmware such as XXJVU by using odin.
have you rooted your phone again after using different android version? if not, try rooting it, then unlock it with apps from the market, this would fix the "no service" problem.
you could also try flashing it with a different modem.

I tried flashing with different modem but without any good result until now. Today I'll try again with a different modem (something with a file "7zip" transformed in a folder ".tar"...I'm new with this, i know nothing about it so a friend is helping me).
If this doesn't work, I'm trying the rooting method you're telling me about.
Thanx for all!
The JVT modem is pretty god as well. you can flash the tar or zip files by using sgs kernel flasher from market or by odin.

Thanx guys!
It seems that I resolved it, using the I9000XXJVU_I9000OXAJVU_OXA modem (Open Europe). At first, when the phone rebooted there was no signal...it appeared that the problem persisted, but now, after the factory reset (*2767*3855# ) everything seems to work just fine.
Still, I don't remember if SGS signal icon shows the 3G indicator in the upper taskbar (like the SGS 2), because mine doesn't! Can anyone confirm if it's wright or not?
Last edit: It seems the 3G doesn't work, as i tried to access the internet an icon pops saying "No network connection / Cannot connect to internet. Please check your connection settings and try again" - "Settings" and "Ok". If I press "Settings", it takes me to the "Wireless and Network" Menu.
SO, ANY CLUE?
Thanx again!
Have you tried flashing a different modem? What carrier are you on and what modem are you currently using?
Had a bit of a browser glitch, there were zero replies a minute ago.

I'm using an Orange Romania prepay card...and now the installed version is I9000XXJVU (the latest 2.3.6 - Open Europe).
I have signal but without 3G, i think, cause the internet connection doesn't work...only wi-fi does.
with the 3g problem, i think you need to edit your apn settings.
settings > wireless and network > mobile network settings > access point names
this is network specific and you might want to check it with your provider

I got home, set on my SGS the same APN settings from the SGS-2 I'm using now with the Orange Romania card, and it seems to work...at least I don't get the "No network connection / Cannot connect to internet" message anymore and the H/3G icon now appears near the signal icon in the upper taskbar.
I stiil have to run some tests to be 100% sure it really works.
I'll be in touch!

Ok, since posting i have managed to Update the fiirmware to 2.3.3 gingerbread using odin. But am still unable to use it on o2/Tesco mobile or even on Tmobile now! Emergency calls only, and gives the error (mobile network not available). I might be wrong, but i suspect something like the firmware for the modem or something?..

Are your speeds any slower? I think some carriers call different things 4G, so with a non carrier specific ROM, you get a different graphic.
I think there's a way of changing it in the build prop.

i dont receive 4G/LTE in general, i have tried different roms too, nothing seems to work
For a while now my galaxy note has been losing mobile internet.
Ive noticed that data just stops working, sometimes i will lose the letter indicator is (H or 3G) but i can still make calls. Other times the indicator will still be there but data wont work. This happens maybe once every couple of days
I know its not the rom as it happened when i used slimbean and also happens on cyanogenmod.
I know its not the carrier as it happened when i was with T Mobile up until last month. Im on Three now and it does it just as much.
to rectify it i have to either switch off data then back on, if this doesnt work, i try aeroplane mode, if thise doesnt work i have to reboot the phone. If i reboot then data comes back straight away.
I wondered if an upgrade to the baseband would help. im on N7000XXLT3. my phone is unbranded and unlocked and was originally on TMobile when purchased.
I found this article:

I am a proud owner of a mi3w and for the last 3 months I have no 3G reception. My phone works flawlessly if I change to 2G only, but when I switch to 3G only I lose reception completely. The problem started a little while after updating to the MIUI 7.0.5.0 stable international. Can it be a harware or a software problem?
I already tried reflashing ROM (through the selection of "return to factory settings"), clearing cache, updating to 7.1.1.0 and my sim works in a different phone receiving 3G and 4G. Any help would be highly appreciated.

IDK. Also I don't know if Baseband has to do something with reception. If it does, you should flash MIUI MM. It updates Baseband version from 3 to 4.
