I unlocked the boot loader and rooted my phone yesterday.
I am noticing some lag which I did not notice before under the following circumstances amongst others:-
Changing from landscape to portrait.
Opening messages.
Touching the back arrow
etc.
I have restarted the phone a few times and un-installed any apps I previously loaded from the market.
Am I imagining things or could rooting the phone cause these problems?
Not for me and what are you rom using

I am using the stock Rom.
I have not noticed any extra lag after rooting the HTC Velocity.
rooted and installed wild child sense 3.5 ROM on my vivid. my phone now runs faster and smoother. he done a great job developing this great rom.

Rooting the phone should change absolutely nothing. I'd suggest getting a custom ROM that's been debloated with some extra handy mods like APM, battery%, etc...
Hi everyone,
I bought a Samsung galaxy s last week from an eBay auction. The phone was described as touch screen lag. I was thinking that flashing a new firmware will solve the problem. I got really cheap though
The touch screen stops suddenly in every 5/6 minutes and I have to lock the screen using power key and unlock again to make it working.
when I got the phone:
Non Samsung battery and chargers were used, I changed and using original ones.
Stock XXJVS firmware in it.
First I flashed stock 2.2.1 froyo and test the screen using *#0*# code. it got pass. But when I start using it, the problem was still there.
Then I flashed stock GB, same story, now slim ics, same thing.
Please someone help me, there is nothing I can do with it now.
I search few threads related to screen problem but couldn't find one with similar problem. So asking here.

Sounds like a hardware problem to me..but it's really hard to say if it is. But it would definitely seem like it since it isn't ROM related. Maybe a water damage or faulty digitizer?

This happens to me sometimes very rarely though, it will be weird and hard to touch but speaking to someone with the same phone they said they had this problem to all I do to resolve the problem is lock and unlock the screen, I thought this was normal?

It shouldn't be normal. I am using another galaxy s for almost two years. But never had this problem in such extent, little bit lag on touchscreen when on froyo. But never after. Now with slim ics Temple run is more smooth then iphone 4.

Thanks for reply. When I got it first time, it was really annoying, the problem was so frequent that it was almost unusable. Now in new rom, after unlocking the screen it works little longer then before. Works like a charm when it works. So not sure this is hardware problem.
Sent from my Galaxy S using xda premium
I don't think this is a hardware or problem either, I broke the screen and replaced it and I still have the same thing when though it is very rare, so if it was the screen it should of gone after I installed the new one, btw I installed a whole new pre built front so the bevil and LCD, and my phone has never hib water damaged? Maybe its something to do with the bootloader? As that doesn't change through ROM flashes

try using a LCD modder LCD density modder https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.birdapi.android.dpi&feature=search_result
@xsenman;
I did that couple of times going through Advance slim setting. That didn't change anything. Now I'll try this as well.
I change touchscreen into chainfire sensitive option in semaphore app. Still lagging.
Tried over clocking to 1200 but it freezes and automatically reboots into recovery mode. I can use only after changing to default

Guys its really annoying now. Its behaving strangely. I played with it few hours and found out that the screen near the home button freezes first. I cant press the dock but still pull the notification bar? then stops working whole screen. I checked the show touches in developers options setting. Sometimes it works randomly actually without touching it , I just place my finger near the screen but didn't touch and on few occasion it works opposite direction, like I scrolled down but it gone up:crying:
Is this the sensor issue? Is there any way to fix? Any idea please?

try this tool to verify where the problem is , if its hardware, you have no choice but to take it to a technician

Screen+digitizer panel can be changed by yourself. For it, you just need couple of tools and little nerves
Instructions can be found from YouTube, this forum and many other places..

I tried all of those apps, nothing wrong. I think I should change the screen and digitizer, I might need to go to the repair center because my hands shake (my usual problem) and hard to fix tiny things. I want to do few experiments before taking it to repair. I already put it in the freezer for two hours it was acting like crazy after.
Suggest me more...

Me too!
and i thought i'm the only one experiencing this kind of problem. it is exactly what i'm having on my sgs. seems to be temporarily fixed by turning the screen off and then on again, but after a while, the screen doesn't respond on the same spot as you're having.
i've managed a low level debug on screen touch response using adb logcat, and my touch doesn't really register any on adb logcat console.
they might be correct on the hardware problem, but when i'm on any gingerbread rom (2.3.6), the problem is gone.
guys, any idea what kind of drivers they're using on gingerbread for our touchscreen?
I have this too on ics, left half of screen stops responding, lock on/off sorts it....until the next time! Bugs the hell out of me!
Me too! on ICS
btw, i'm already on ics team nyx
change
flash CF KERNEL and put ICS CM9
middle screen not responding
- when in stock gb firmware (official from samsung), the touchscreen problem is gone.
- but i want the features of an ics rom, so i flashed one (first was slim ics); the problem appeared first; first guess was the custom rom was still in its early stages.
- flashed back to gb, no touchscreen problem.
- flashed new ics rom from cm9 (nightlies), problem appears again (ugh!).
- flashed backed to updated slim ics since this was the fastest and easiest to install, touchscreen problem still persist.
- found a temporary fix by turning the screen off then on again.
did a adb logcat full trace log of touchscreen input: what i noticed was the whole vertical middle part of the screen is not responding to touch; dragging touch from one side to middle is working just fine, but not starting from the mid vertical part.
the problem may sometimes go away after a while, and sometimes persist even after the temp fix. it's very intermittent indeed.
help please.

So your sgs touchscreen working fine on stock gb rom! It might not be a hardware problem then. We have similar problem, only difference is I have problem on GB too. I've even tried stock froyo, same story

same problem here, left part of the screen would be unresponsive at times
can fix by locking the phone through power button and unlocking it, thats why i think its a software problem.
I dont remember having this problem in GB also.
maybe something is messed up during flash?
I have the same problem with ics and jb roms from the onecosmic ics times and i had a topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1648287
I have written here but no one seems to now what it is, i have been using ics from onecosmics first release and had the problem from that moment on, different kernels, roms etc it is still here i have flashed gb again and problem is gone, flash again with ics the middle part still acts sometimes. ?...
We should request from kernel developers and rom developers to look into it. I have tried almost everything no luck so far
Not sure what is going on. I experienced it on stock rom, and I'm also experiencing it on Android Revolution HD Rom.
It seems like whenever the phone is tasked by an app opening or closing, I experience a random reboot.
Anyone know whats causing it?
Yeap me too, but only after closing final fantasy IV.. Dunno what's the deal here

Me, too, but I didn't catch any regularity, yet.
I am on stock ROM.
One time a had a crash report from htc, but most times I only realize it, because I have to re-enter my pin.
Today I realised, that long-pressing the power-button does restart the phone without any other input.
Maybe it's that?
I'm using developer edition and have been suffered from heavily random reboot.
The phone rarely rebooted (2 or 3 times) while I was using it but just kept rebooting if I left it idle (5 reboots in 20 mins). I cannot reproduce the reboot because it was so random. One day, it just kept me annoying by rebooting itself more than a dozen time. The other day it just went super smooth and stable. This reboot has been happening on both completely stock and custom (Rom, kernel).
Anyone got a clue?
If you know a certain action is causing the reboot get a logcat, there's an app called catlog on the play store. Press record, repeat the action, after it reboots get the logcat and post it here

Same issue here! I'm using TrickDroid though. Has anyone tried this with 4.2.2 to see if it still happens?

I'm using Android Revolution ROM on 4.2.2., same thing. It happens once in a blue moon, and it's only on wake when I hit the power button. The whole phone freezes and reboots.
Is everyone here on the Developer's Edition?
I'm having the same issue, dev edition stock except recovery, and root. Some days it reboots, other days its fine. Not exactly sure whats up w/ that
Sent from my HTC One
I'm gonna go ahead and bump this, seeing as I'm facing the same issue on my 2 day old device.
At first I thought it was a problem with 4.1.2, but even after upgrading to 4.2.2 the issue is still there.
ViperOne 2.1.0 the same trouble
Hello,
I confirm the same problem on ViperOne ROM. I have tried out ElementalX 3.4 and Bulletproof kernels. But it seems to be kernel independent.
I attached the log, my configuration is as described in my signature except that I use Bulletproof kernel right now.
It is quite frustrating cause I just wanted to play a movie on my TV using Hama MHL cable, but everytime I connect my phone to the adapter the phone reboots, then it gets stuck on HTC logo, then I have to reboot it manually holding power button. I am also experiencing a reboot right after phone boots up.
This is such a serious issue that I am thinking of going back to stock kernel, but I am not sure if it will help
Any hints?
EDIT: I just installed stock kernel, but still the same, really does not seem to be a problem of the kernel
EDIT2: still trying to find the out whats the problem, I did a clean reinstallation of everything, even w/o using Titanium Backup, well, MHL still causes reboots
Hello all, this is my first post on Android Central! I wanted to see if anyone had similar problems after converting their T-Mobile HTC One to GPE. I've been tinkering around with my phone for the last few weeks, first by rooting my One and trying out different roms, including a 4.3 GPE rom. When using this rom in particular, my phone would perform beautifully early in the day and in the evening (or sometimes after 50% battery) swiping between the home screen, scrolling, and opening apps would be noticeably slower and less buttery. Resetting the phone would normally correct the issue, at least until the next day.
Needless to say, this was the only downside of running stock Android so I decided to try out full GPE conversion to see that fixed the issue. I did a full wipe and ran the OEM RUU before rerooting, went S-OFF, and finally converted my phone to GPE. I installed the OTA update and everything was working fine until the slowness issues returned, essentially the same as before I converted?
Has anyone else had this problem? Is this being caused by a particular app or process? What kind of screenshots/logs would be helpful to find out what the issue is?
I have a TMO version and a few months ago i did the GPe conversion and mine is working very well. No sluggishness or or battery issues.

Had some issues because I triggered some developer options.. I don't know which it was.. but try to turn them off! ALL of them! Then look if you still experience such performance problems
Thanks for all of your comments. I spent last night deleting apps I didn't use to see if I could find a culprit. As it turns out, the CPU management option in Battery Doctor was turned on. I never thought of turning this off and, frankly, Battery Doctor did little for my battery life in general. I uninstalled the app completely, rebooted, and have actually seen a better battery life and NO sluggishness whatsoever all day today.
Hopefully this wasn't just a temporary solution to my problem!
Good follow up. Keep an eye on it and if its ok for a few days you "should" be out of the woods.
Hi,
I have a problem with my galaxy s3 i9305, it is acting strange. Whenever I have an official ROM, it just hang like not going anywhere and give a pop-up that the setup wizard is not responding, and then i changed it to custom ROM, i tried PA, CM, Resurrection Remix and etc. It works fine, until the screen is off, my s3 will automatically reboot or its hang. But the problem only appear after the screen is off, and it works fine if i never turn off the screen..anyone have an idea about this??
Sorry for my bad english, and thank you.:victory:

cause it's a strange problem man..no one can give you an exact answer..here is my opinion:
well since you flashed the original firmware and the problem still is(assuming you did a full wipe between instals) your problem is hardware related.. i would suggest going to local service and investigate further...since you flashed custom i guess warranty is out.
today i read an article about iphone admitted they have a problem with their unlock button on the 5 model...maybe they did some voodoo to affect our phones too....
