Should of used the find my device feature sorry to hear about that though.
I don't get how ppl are getting such good battery life when connected to a phone. At the end of the day as long as my devices get me through the day with my standard use I'm happy.

Apart from when I got it at launch, my battery has always been great (stock and null). I usually get 2days out of it (sometimes 3). Because I have motion on, it can be the determining factor for whether I make the 2 days or not (eg, busier day = worse battery)
Oh in that case I'm not doing too badly I guess. Ill get 2 days easy with calls and notifications. I get lots of work notifications and emails during the day and in meetings this is great so I can see the importance and whether I need to excuse myself. I could possibly get a 3rd day in but I'm pretty confident it would die before the day ended. With the claims of the gear 2 lasting longer this should be good.

Yeah that's ideally what I want to do since my insurance is going to pay back 500€ of the 600€ I bought the S4 so that's cool, but I don't have the 175€ needed for the S5
I've had my gear for two days now and avoided posting here as I have been trying to find the answers to my million questions by reading rather than clogging up development threads. Thankfully there seems to be an active community here that have made this watch so much more than what it is of the box!
Within an hour of getting it, I had twrp and the latest null rom installed..Thanks fomey! While I have been taking my lumps getting Gear Manager working correctly on my Galaxy Note 1, i am muddling through and making progress through trial and error and will eventually get around to getting notifications working as well as they can be on a non touchwiz rom.
But since this thread is about Battery, I figure I'll ask a question...
How are you guys using your Gear? It seems that a common setting in your posts is to have bluetooth off. Are you guys going into settings, enabling bluetooth, pairing, then toggling on tethering in device settings everytime you want to use something like google now? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a "smart " watch?
I would be willing to use a bluetooth toggle widget (as a compromise), but i'm finding that I would still have to drill down into settings in order to allow for data tethering as this feature does not seem to automatically toggle on when bluetooth pairs.
As it stands, i basically keep my watch constantly tethered to my phone. I use trikster mod to cut the cpu max to 600000. My phone (a known battery hog) has no difficulty getting me through a day even with bluetooth constantly tethering data. My Gear on the other hand, does not look like it will go more than 12 hours...and I haven"t even got notifications going yet...What am I missing here?

Are you using the Stock Kernel or Custom?
Might want to try Stock and disable Xposed first.
12 hours is pretty bad typically speaking. But you haven't stated your stats so it's hard to tell. It cuold be amazing if you're doing 12 hours of screen time.
Also omit Playstore and Google stuff from the Null Rom installation.

Well my Gear was rooted and running Null 07.
I couldn't resist taking the offer from Samsung and installing the new firmware...
Since then the battery life is drastically improved.
I am running Pedometer watch (I do most of the time).
It has recorded 6000 steps today
I have read 25 emails
4 Wordfued moves
4 messages
1 phone call
My gear has been unplugged for 12 hours and I'm on 83% - nothing short of stunning.
The new notifications are amazing, Wordfued notifications are telling me who made the move, what they played and how many points it was worth.
I simply cannot think of a better smart watch on the market at the moment. (but that's my opinion )
Wow.....
sepiroth887 can start sleeping more I guess.... Seems like Sammy hacked his ATN (or hired him ) and the notifications finally are what they should be!!!
Anything you pick in MK7 gets notifications on the watch. Awesome!!!!!!

Yes. I have gesture for wake up enabled. We were out shopping yesterday so I know it woke up quite a few times. Wish there was a way count to it.
I can only see the need for running Null 8 at the moment for internet and GPS.
Honestly the battery life has been massively improved :good:

With null 8 you can go into battery stats and have a look how long the screen has been on. I'm at 57% battery with screen on time of 2 hours. That's after 20 hours of charge and lots of playing setting nova launcher up.

Sounds good. I didn't wear the watch today. Although it was lying around my Gear and connected to it (only received some text notifications) it I only lost 9%. That's 9% in 16 hours to be specific. So yeah, in standby the battery life is amazing.
Definitely going to do some measurements to see what the biggest power hog is when using the Gear actively.
Seems incredible
With the new upgrade the Gear battery is more than fantastic
48 hours and has further 42%
I originally thought my battery life had shortened, then again I realised I charged it 3 days ago and have been using it a lot more with the new notifications activated still on 30%
How did you guys get the new firmware already? I got the gear manager update and have been checking for the watch firmware update and nothing super annoying
My gear is supposed to be delivered today. I downloaded everything i need to root and customize it. I was wondering if there was anyway to use an app lie juice defender to improve battery life. If so, which app is preferred?
Turn off the wrist watch gesture and your fine. A normal use for me drains about 15-20% / 24h..
That's right ! Just turning off the wrist gesture to wake the gear the battery is consuming between 1 5 / 20 % a day / . Merry Christmas.

Yes. I have the motion activated... the trick is to turn the screen brightness all the way down. I get about 30% / 24hrs with the motion activated and the screen brightness down.

Thanks for the tip. I had motion deactivated to conserve battery but didn't like having to press the button each time to wake up the watch. 30% a day is not bad at all. I would even take 50%. Anything is better than the 24 hour time I've been seeing posted by reviewers. That worried me a bit. The good thing too is it charges fairly fast. So that 30% drain will be quick to recover.

Do you find that battery life on your connected phone suffers? I know keeping the BT radio on will have an impact, but I noticed I had to change some settings in JuiceDefender to allow the data connection to remain active so that S-Voice will work on the Gear. This, of course, means my phone's radio (data or wifi) is always on, when before I used to let JD turn it off while sleeping.
Haven't had the Gear long enough to tell whether or not this will have a serious impact but wondering if there are any tips? I tried finding a setting in JuiceDefender to only turn the radio on when the S-Voice is activated. Unfortunately, that doesn't work.
please help me.
after null_16 my battery life is short.
after 6 hour (only in watch mode without notify or other) my gear shut down.
could you give some tips for extend the battery life ?
thanks
If I turn off the motion wake feature my Gear will go three to four days easy but if I use motion it won't last longer than 12-14 hours. This is with moderate usage. I get probably a total of 30-40 emails and texts and other notifications a day and maybe 10 phone calls. (Most calls not answered on gear) maybe 3 a day. I would love to be able to use the watch without pushing the button. Even a tap on the screen to wake would be acceptable to me. The pebble uses a shake motion to wake which also is better than the Gear motion. I drive for a living and every turn of the steering wheel activates the screen. (Although battery life is not improved on days off.) if I side load apps will my battery life be severely shortened? And to the person who asked about the Bluetooth running all the time, it doesn't impact the battery life of my phone hardly at all.
Hi everyone,
I just bought my Gear 2 Neo 3 days ago and expected its battery use can be 3 days or so. I use the watch not much, just received emails and messages notification. I also turn steps function on and... That's it.
But I experience that my Gear 2 Neo battery use just only 1 day or 1 and half day.
Does somebody have experience like this? I think I would return the watch since charging for it every day is annoying me.
Thank you,

My gear 2 neo's battery life seems about right. It's using about 25% battery life per day. The issue that I'm having is that, since getting the gear 2, my phone's (s5) battery life has been horrible. Is anyone else experiencing this?

have read on other forums and the drain of gear 2 might be linked to android version 4.3

There is a similar thread in Gear 2 forum and there people are kind of convinced that it may be a version issue. But there is an issue with watch as well. I disconnected the watch from bluetooth before going to sleep and the battery has come down 4% in 8 hours. Without display and no updates/notifications, no sleep, pedometer etc this is rather too much.
Thanks for letting us know that 4.4.2 the battery is again pathetic.
Any fixes in sight anyone??
You guys must be doing something wrong, I got mine on saturday, gave it its initial charge till it was 100% and today is the first time I have had to charge it, so what's that some 5.5 days, and that's using the sleep function, having it as a silent alarm, using the heart rate monitor every other hour (on a drug that can cause increased heart rate) getting notifications, made 3 phone calls, sent 20 something text (via s-voice).
I have screen set at 2, vibrate (no sound), and on latest fw, it is connected to my Note 3 N9005 running 4.4.2 official ota ROM.

I don't know if we're doing something wrong, but there is a clear difference between results. It may be that the software is optimized for the Note, maybe other apps we've added, maybe the custom rom. . . Whatever --you're getting really exceptional life -don't change what you're doing! :good:
-- I full charged yesterday at about 1:40 pm, it is 10:20am, that ~21 hours (less 20min) and I am at 72%, so about 28% in 21 hours (including going to the gym and going out for the evening and finally an 8.5hour (measured) sleep cycle (watch blocking mode turned on while sleeping and wake up gesture is ON).
-- That's about 1.3% per hour, which would be great. However, my daytime use (Saturday going out and about) will likely be higher.
-- The only difference I did was I switch off Google Now notifications (but switched ON Business Calendar and simple calendar --so I still get my appointments sent) and deleted two apps I am not using (Feedly, eBay).
I would be happy with three days and would put up with 2.5 days; but anything less than two days/48 hours would be too much of a pain in the neck to stop and recharge. Even though I have the hour or so downtime to make it happen, having to pay attention and take that action every 48 would not be what I expected. . .Well. . . we'll see how it fairs without G Now today!
Try screen at 10 sec and wake by button only.

Guys, I think I know where the problem is. Im using GS3 paired to my Gear2Neo. At the beginning my G2N had a very slowly battery discharge. Since two days ago battery gone mad. It went down 4% per hour even I was not using it. Finally, after experimentnig with varios combinations I found that if you uninstall goproviders app (in aplication manager on your phone) you wont be able to receive Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc notifications but the battery will be back to normal. Ofcourse, I can still receive standard notifications (calendar, sms, email...), make or reject calls. In last 1,5 hour I lost 2-3% of battery with normal usage. For the conclusion, it is not BT but Gear manager bug. Hope they will make this work properly.
I'm still installing goproviders app but the battery is really good right now, 73% used in 75 hours.

I charged the watch to 100% last night and immediately turned it off. I just turned it on ten mins ago and it was at 99% and it immediately went to 98%. I would accept if I had left it on...but it was turned off. I know batteries can loose juice over time, but when it's off that should happen in maybe a full day or 2 days, not in 8 hrs, correct?

With regards to my set up,
I have wake-up set to off (I work in an office and would constantly be on),
I have all notifications off (except call, alarm, SMS etc) only ones I have bar the std is gmail and facebook.
I use the sleep mode with notifications off
No pedo during the day (I have a fitbit one for that)
In my office im not allowed a phone, so as that is left in my car bluetooth is disconnected for about 7hrs a day (not turned off, just disconnected).
I check my heart rate every hour, I know its only a rough guide but still uses battery.
I have noticed since loading the minority report 24hr ultimate watchface (yes it does work, despite what the site says) my battery life has halved, so currently getting 2.5 to 3 days b4 I hit below 20%.
Screen is set to 2.
Notifications set to silent
One other thing to note, I seem to be getting a rash on my wrist, where the contacts on the back of the neo contact my skin. Anyone else getting this??

Wow! you have a very efficient setup --no wonder you are (were) getting such tremendous battery time! ( I need display brightness "3" to use it all day. Also, in the house or in an office, I turn off the motion-to-wake, but outside I do use it. . . )
Your adjustments also makes sense and may be a good part of your savings, since you don't have your phone in the office, and don't need to use the pedometer.
In general, I think that when we get the smart watch our first inclination is to load the watch up and do everything with every possible app! However, after a while, we sort out how we use the watch and can pare back the apps and notifications and make it more sensible, while improving battery life (a bit) too!
From what I have done on my Neo, I agree that using limited, selective notifications -and even selective app loading-- makes a difference in battery life.
I also noticed that different alternative watch faces seemed to drain the battery faster than the default options.
That's why, even after buying/trying several different watch faces; and even after using Breach 's great "create your own watch face thread," [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2734747 ] , I went back to the stock (weather-time).
As to the rash... wow, I have had no irritation or rash or reaction on my wrist -even after working out with it on and sweating. (Wasn't that a problem with fit-bit or one of the other bands?).
Since my switch to Tizen I have great batter life. 3rd day here and still at 29 percent.
Have to agree, the battery life is far superior to the Android based Galaxy Gear.
I am on the second day and currently looking at 49% and that was from 7am to 10pm each day with as many notifications as I used to get when it was Android powered. Rest of the time is just idle by the bedside as notifications are disabled on the phone during the night.
It's given my Gear a whole new lease of life.
how?
i wonder why its better tho o0 they did a good job but what did they change? lol doesnt look or feel any different lol
Same here, I bit the bullet and made the switch to Tizen last week.
I was previously on Null, as much as I enjoy the android experience, the fun/wow factor wore off after a while. Also having to charge up the gear every night wasn't a problem, though I sometimes forget.
After I made the switch, battery life was great, I would check the battery % throughout the day and it would drop only a few %.
Thinking the battery % was stuck or hung, I reset the gear and to my surprise it was the same %.
Even though I charge up my gear every night, now I'm trying to get out of the habit and doing it every few days instead.
I get a fare share of notifications on a daily basis and the battery still chugging along nicely.
For those that haven't made the switch and don't mind not having the option of android/null rom, make the switch.
Regards
Tizen does seem to increase the Battery life. One thing to note is that everyone that is reporting 2-3 days probably has the biggest battery drainer (motion wake) turned off. With motion wake on under Null I could go from 6am - 11pm with 30% or more remaining at which time I put it on the charger. With Tizen I go from 6am - 11pm with 55% or more remaining. Both of these are with Pedometer, multiple SMS, a few FB notifys, and about 100 exchange emails.
I have been running Tizen for a while now with motion wake off. Same amount of usage and I can go 3 days (I even run the sleep tracker overnight). Very satisfying results. I miss the motion wake, I do not like having to press the button to see time. An always on or motion wake is what I want in a smartwatch (this is my 4th, (Liveview, Sony, Pebble, Gear). I am going back to motion wake, I will give it a charge at home before bed, use the sleep tracking and still get through the day fine.
Everyone is different in what they need/expect from a smartwatch. The Gear is definitely a great product, and even though I wasn't excited about Tizen I am enjoying the longer battery life and built in applications.

Dear Tizen users, does it support watch styler? I am so tempted to upgrade especially for better battery life. But I do need watch styler.

Watch Styler is in the Samsung Apps under Gear Manager now. Showed up for Gear 1 a few days ago. I installed and used it but have since taken it off as I don't change watch faces often.
Well ... Mine keeps connecting and disconnecting even after factory reset of both devices.

Well I'm running tizen for about a week now and I'm very disappointed. Battery life for me is worse than on android. After about 8 hours battery is on 54% and that's with few notifications. With android I could run the Gear for 15 hours and it was on 54% or more. Sucks that I can't go back.
Really happy with Tizen upgrade, just looks way better and battery life is way better than stock Android. Not sure yet how it stacks up against Null_ ROM but I'm sticking with Tizen. Also better looking UI imo
Taskar23: Actually, you can go back to Android. Check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776157
Seeing as how you are a new member here, make sure to follow instructions exactly and do not downgrade if you're not sure of what you're doing.
But be careful, some users report disfunctional touchscreen. Using Null_ ROM touchscreen seems to work, but DOWNGRADE AT OWN RISK.

I'm getting 2+ days with motion wake turned on. At first I was getting about 25% better battery life then Android. Then some combination of moving from BTU>XAC>ROM improved it to what other folks were claiming.
getting 4 days with motion wake turned off. I don't really need motion wake, too many false positives anyway.
4 days, i am so happy.
Motion wake is enabled. It would be a pain in the ass to have to turn on the phone every time I wanted to check the time or an alert.
Well I have decided to flash with the new NF1 ROM last night. Everything went well, gear is working. Uninstaled the GM and installed again, factory reseted the gear just to make sure and so far looks like about 4% battery per hour

Mine is doing this too. And when it does disconnect (when out of range) it doesn't always reconnect automatically. Is anyone else experiencing this?

The Tizen update for me is great. I have had it unplugged from the charger since 8am and it is now noon. Many notifications from girlfriend and checking the time. Still at 100% battery. This update has been nothing but a positive move. Layout is very nice. Love the background option and the fact that we can now access the internal storage. +1 for Tizen for me.

Yeah, my Gear Fit does the same thing, so I think it's probably my Note II's rom. I've never wanted to go to Verizon stock so badly ...
Tizen lost 25-30% per 24 hour
stock Android lost 50% per 24 hour
Null_ ROM lost 50-60% per 24 hour
Same Using Condition and Setting
Meh, I was running Android with tasker and auto remote and about 40 task on my gear and was getting about a day and a half out of my gear.
I upgraded to Tizen, litterally all I use is the pedometer, and sleep(while plugged in). So I unplug at 7:50am every morning. Almost every night around 8:30-9pm the watch dies....thats barely 13 hours. What load of crap lol
I just bought a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and, after setting it up yesterday, have been using it relatively normally today (though a bit more frequently than usual, given that it’s a new phone). It’s 7:00 PM here right now and the phone is already at 30%. I took it off the charger at 6:00 AM and have had the screen on for just a shade over three hours. I’m attaching screenshots.
I have AcDisplay installed and it’s consistently chewing through 4% of the battery, which is a significant amount of drain. I’ll have to look into whether I want to keep it installed. But besides that, I cannot figure out why I’m struggling to get even one day of battery life on a phone that many claim bests even Sony’s two-day estimate. The whole point behind buying this phone was to be able to use useful power-hungry apps like AcDisplay with wanton abandon, secure in the knowledge that the phone will easily last one day of heavy use.
Am I doing something wrong? Are there any default features (like double tap to wake or smart call handling) that use up a lot of battery and should be turned off? I don’t want to compromise my experience in any way to get more impressive battery life from my phone though…
you have three hours of screen on time in 12 hours. try turning the screen brightness down. i am very rarely over 30% unless i'm outside.
i have at the moment, 3 hours 51 minutes screen on time (23% of usage) with 20% battery left. 1 day, 17 hours, and 55 minutes since the last time it saw a charger.
not having stuff run in the background helps. also turning on STAMINA mode (not ultra) helps too by reducing clock speeds of the cpu and such.
If it actually can do two days straight out of the box under normal usage conditions, why should I have to disable features to get just one day of usage out of it comfortably? My Z1 Compact used to give me battery life very similar to this, and this one is supposed to be in a different league. It's just... dissapointing, I guess.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong, I just think that the 2 day battery life is taken out of proportion by many. This isn't 2 days under heavy usage but what Sony terms "active use conditions reflective of the Typical Smartphone User" http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/legal/testresults/xperia-z3-compact/#2-day-battery
To quote directly:
Battery performance testing reflective of a Typical Smartphone User usage profile involved using the device for approximately 5 hours in a 24-hour period, for a range of typical usage scenarios (calling, texting, web, social networking, games, camera, music and video). Default settings were applied for the device during battery performance testing including display brightness of 100 Nits and Battery stamina mode off.

YMMV but the SOT I get with the z3c scales pretty well compared to the z1c which I also have. Typically I'd get around 5hrs SOT prorated on the z1c, now I get about 6hrs. Ofc there are various factors but around 20% improvement in SOT for a 13% increase in battery capacity despite a slightly larger screen is not be scoffed at. Just take that 2 day battery life promise with a pinch of salt.

I think that's your answer right there. It might be polling your sensors constantly, even though the screen is off, thus causing the battery drain. Try going to the battery usage screen and then tapping on the AcDisplay line and check what's the CPU usage time.
I remember I had Automaton Unlocker on my Nexus 4 previously, and it worked flawlessly. When I installed that same app on my Z3C, for some reason, it constantly polled the sensor and drained the battery rather quickly.
tl;dr - try uninstalling the AcDisplay and see if you still have the battery drain.
This is very similar to the battery life I get. i.e pretty crappy.
My old phone was alot better.
Try playing a game on the Z3C and the mediocre performance becomes absolutely terrible.
I dont know how people are getting the results they post. Im assuming something is wrong with my phone or they just use their phones as a clock.
The only hope left is that Android L is the miracle patch.
Just use the .93 firmware for now. It has noticeably better battery life

I disabled AcDisplay's Active Mode feature and now it's consuming negligible battery life. I've still managed to exhaust 35% of the battery in 14 hours, with just over two hours of screen on time. This is, in fact, worse than my Z1 Compact.
I think the culprit is something else. Android System on my phone is using up 23% of the battery and kept the phone awake for eleven hours today. Can someone help me sort this out? Are any of the built-in Sony add-ons consuming all this battery? Is Google Now and its location reminders the culprit (although I've always used them on every phone I've owned and they've never posed an issue)?

You've got a wakelock issue, use 'adb shell dumpsys power' to figure it out using the instructions listed in 3.1 of this article: https://software.intel.com/en-us/an...etect-no-sleep-issues-in-android-applications
Thanks, but this is way too complicated. I tried using BetterBatteryStats instead and it requires root. Is there any alternative?

It doesn't get much easier than this:
Code:
C:\Windows\System32>adb shell dumpsys power
POWER MANAGER (dumpsys power)

Yes, the 'handleMediaEvent' is most likely the cause. It usually occurs when playing music and using either the headset controls or Bluetooth controls to pause/rewind/skip tracks. Once this wakelock is stuck you'll need to reboot to release it.
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...kelock-quot-handleMediaEvent-quot/td-p/868029
I traced the AudioIn partial wakelock to Google Now's always-listening feature and disabling it got rid of it. Why Google would intentionally allow enabling a feature that it knows kills the battery is beyond me. Give a warning, at the very least.
The other wakelock hasn't reappeared since I rebooted, but clearly it's going to continue to be an intermittent disruptor. Random wakelocks are the Achilles' Heel of Android.
Thanks for all your help.

The battery life has become respectable after getting rid of those two partial wakelocks but the phone is still waking up quite a bit when the screen is off and killing the battery.
