Hi people,
I have some troubles with my battery life, it drains like madness since 4.2.2 update and the phone seems to overheating, i've first tried with the NUT ROM cause i need root but i've experienced the same problem so i've flashed with a official stock rom 4.2.2 ftf file but i've still have the same problem.
What's going on with this update!
It's really painfull to use it even while it's charging!
Any solution?
What's the major battery drainer?

Multimedia and Serveur Multimedia, sorry my ROM is in French because i'm French
that's insane that those 2 things take 91% of the battery!
Try to stop the services and clean data to force a new refresh. If you spend your day listening to music or videos than it should be normal but I suspect if it was the case you're not asking for help here.

To anyone who is experiencing device over heating, lag or battery drain after the update; give it an hour, it’s just that the device is still adjusting.. Mine is working smooth now after an hour of usage..Problem solved!:victory:

I gave mine 24 hours and the battery is still draining extremely fast. My battery drainers are Screen 30% and Android OS 20%. Sometimes Screen ended up to 99% even I never use any 3rd launcher or live wallpapers.
Any helps?

I must admit i still have it as well after many days that drain it extremly quickly, it's take some hours to totally discharge it :'(
Some people told me that can take one day or 2 but i still have it as well so i have no idea why, i've tried as well a stock rom, same matter...
I'll try this :

Factory reset and wipe contents on SD card, then repair through PC companion. Problem solved.
BTW, google has changed the way things work with KK regarding SD card storage. To solve your problems you need to start off fresh and then let KK sort out the file structure for you. The old way had security risks, its changed now so your folder structure is bad on your SD card. Sort that out, then you will have great battery life (better than Jelly Bean)

Did you restore? If you did then that's your problem. Need to start off clean again. You can use PC companion to restore your images and songs and whatnot (through the media app) but DON'T restore! You're just restoring the same broken file structure all over again!
EDIT: Also did you repair your phone through PCC? That step is important! Because it will install KK properly to your device. I know this sounds like a mission mixed in with a bit of [email protected] Sony rants Blah, Blah, blah.. but trust me it works!
Also you cant blame Sony because this problem is a KK specific issue regarding storage (although this should have been implemented in Android right from Eclair!)
So to break it down:
1) Wipe phone and SD from -> the menu setting
2) Repair phone in PCC
3) Screw your saved games and app data and restore only whats important, eg: music, movies and pictures
4) Boom, done!

Before restoring i have a question, i need the root for some specific app like SCR that why 'im using the NUT ROM, restoring the phone will eras the ROM and i'll lost the root, but did that will solve my problem? I mean i can reflash the NUT ROM again and the problem wont appear?
I've already tried to flash from the official stock ROM and the problem was still here so i REALLY doubt that PCC will solve it...

Maybe a dev can make a fix on the major issues of kk, if no battery issues, its a start!!
I had the same battery drain issue caused by the "mediaserver" process.
I did a factory reset, it went away for a couple of days, and then returned.
When I was about to format my sd card, I realized it was defected, and turned into read-only (I don't know if it was caused by the phone). I couldn't delete anything or format it.
I went and bought a new 64gb microsd card, copied just the music and photos from the old one (without all the android files), and the phone was fine for a day, with normal battery.
Then, after a day, it started draining the battery again, and again because of the "mediaserver" process. I don't know what I can do anymore besides just remove the sd card and remain with the internal memory. This kitkat update is just abysmal. I am highly disappointed with Sony for releasing such a buggy software update.
You might want to try an app called BatteryGuru for Snapdragon. Works quite well.

I'm having overheating problems too with 4.4.4 and I want to get rid of it.. do you still have problems with the phone like getting warm after 5-10 minutes? If not please explain what you did xD.

hi there
after successfully installing the JB updated on my unlocked phone and all was running fine for a while
that is until I rebooted it this morning, now the stupid thing wont start. I am stuck at the triangle iconwith the screwdirver and spanner, and the 'progress' bar below..
clearly it is not progressing as it been like that for over an hour now
also tried clearing cahce/dalvik to no avail
any options here or do I have to ftf my way back to ICS?
any help very much appreciated
thanks

You just need to format your internal sd card and all should be fine, it's a fairly common issue

actually I had left it alone for an hour or so and it seems to have come back to life again..
although it has lost my security settings and all the haptic feedback has turned itself back on again
lost my swiftkey settings also it seems
piece of shizzle
EDIT: in fact it refuses to keep any security settings at all, no lock screen nothing.
lost all my texts everything, f*cking cr*p
walkman isnt working either
wondering why i bothered upgrading cant actually see any difference really other than a more colorful boot image. hoping that the battery life will improve as that is rubbish - I know it takes a while to settle.

No No No don't format anything. That would make you loose all data and apps. Let it be. It will fix itself. Could take between 5 minutes and 3 hours. It is not an error or a problem or anything. Its just getting ready.
But if you really really need it to boot, yes you can format internal.

I don't know why it screwed up your settings buddy maybe due to a small flashing error. Flash again and you will see the difference in the upgrade. Battery life is amazing. I can get two days if i switch off data, and 1.5 days with data always on. Plus multitasking is smoother and the camera has HDR, the Xperia Z's ClearAudio+ engine, notification toggles, a sexy new Album, blah blah. You'll find out.
Oh and you did the right thing by letting it be with the white triangle sign.

its an Xperia T I have in case that wasn't clear...
so I installed it from a zip in the end, rather than an ftf as flashtool was playing sillybuggers.
I should just go in to recovery and do so again? presumably along with the JB GApps
like I say it was working fine after the first time I did that, but when I turned it off this morning it went all manky
I would however like to keep some of my settings for the apps that havent already had their settings raped.. is titanium the best way to do that? or to move things to SD card and reinstall or something
also home button not functioning- at all
the no screen lock is a big issue as I have my work emails on there - if I lost my phone I would really get in trouble

Most the app stuff is on /data not /sdcard so you'll be fine, some of the data made by apps will be in /sdcard/android but there isn't much there as most is in /data/data so if you backup /sdcard/android you'll be fine, you may as well backup your whole sdcard and format, that's the solution I used and most people have been using. If in doubt use titanium backup to also backup your apps if you're unsure

I believe the best way is to use a ftf file with flashtool. I have not tried any zipped roms. They might be faulty. And Titanium Backup is the app to use to backup apps. Moving things to SD card is useless as they will be removed when you install a new rom. Always make sure you do a full wipe when you flash a new rom, and flash the kernel before flashing the rom.

Hello everyone.
I just got my xperia x8 from my brother because he didn't know how to fix it.
The phone seems like it has not even a scratch.
The issue is that everytime i turn it on it is just turning on and off and on and off again and again.
I don't even have time to input my pin.
The battery always seems to be drained although i charge it occasionally.
I have updated it's os with pc companion, but it keeps doing the same thing.
Is there anything that i can do to fix it?

try to flash stock frimware through flash tools(this wipes the data & reinstalls the system partition)
Normally flashing fixes all software fault but if your hardware is damaged so you shouldnt be hopeful.
I think its a sw problem but even an empty battery can cause exactly the same react.(put another battery then try flashtools)
Hope i could help you

links don't work. i found the stock rom. all i need now is flashtools. Working link anyone?
I got it done. i flashed it succesfuly and was able to work with it while connected to my laptop. once i unplugged it, it went off after 2 minutes. Now all i have to do is buy a new battery.Thank you guys. i just got a free x8 from my stupid brother
OK, so I was having issues with CM11 where once my Xperia t had booted I would just about have the chance to unlock the screen, mess about with it for about 30 seconds and then reboot. So I thought OK CM is obviously just a bit buggy and it was a nightly anyway plus it would really eat my battery, so I made the decision of flashing back to pure stock firmware (4.3 9.2.A.1.205) I told flashtool to format just about everything (APPSLOG, CACHE, DATA, PARTITION (internal storage), KERNEL, FOTA and SYSTEM). After doing so, I setup my phone (went through the setup wizard, logged into google, downloaded some apps etc.) and about 10 Mins later the same thing happened that happened on CM (successful boot, unlocked screen did a few things and it crashed again). So then I was confused.
I've tried several other ROMS (Liquid Smooth, Pure AOSP, PureXT (custom sony ROM), all have the same problem so the issue seems to be persistent. So I assumed it must be a hardware problem (i.e. putting pressure on CPU causes phone to reboot) but my phone doesn't crash or do anything strange when I'm in recovery, I can successfully complete backup and restore operations that take about 10 Minutes give or take.
I have also relocked/unlocked the bootloader several times, no difference
So basically the bottom line is this is a really strange problem that appears to be persistent with any rom, I couldn't find anyone with the same issue (quick google search and a search under the XDA Q&A thread for this phone didn't seem to return anything similar). So I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar or can help me because I'm really confused .
Help would be much appreciated Thanks.

You already did everything should be done for trying to solve this kind of issues.
It seems your hardware is broken....
Lock your bootloader and try to repair using your warranty if you have one

Yeah I suppose a hardware problem is the only thing that makes sense, I just wasn't sure since Recovery still works but I guess recovery doesn't fully utilise the phones resources. My warranty is out of date (Had the phone for about 15 months now) guess I should probably start saving up for a Z2
Thanks for your help

Hi
Yes I think it may either be the battery or the CPU because under light use the phone is (kind of) fully functional, it only seems to happen when it is processing a lot and gets warm. This would probably explain why it doesn't reboot in recovery.
But yes it would be worth getting another battery for it since a new one is only about £15 on UK Amazon so thanks for the heads up.

Hey I'm back,
Just got my battery come through and the problem still exists, my best bet is that there is probably an issue with the battery terminals and probably something beyond repair.
So I think with that I'm officially declaring this phone DEAD .
Thanks for your help any ways guys, I'm probably gonna wrap up this thread now.

hi, max temp for z1 may be till 50 degrees celcius, you can search on the net about it and dont worry, your phone will auto shutdown when reach max temp.
to fix this problem you can disable app not use or debloat ur rom.
Thanks for the reply. I am getting some lags recently because of the phone getting hot. And please tell me what do you mean by debloating of rom

Don't worry about your phone temperature everything's fine the phone is built to resist.
The easiest explanation of debloating is "Removing useless apps from your phone"
(that will probably be installed from your vendor and cannot be removed-uninstalled)

Hi,
My Z1 only ever got really warm (I wouldn't say it was overheating) when it was syncing Google photos, i.e. backing them up, or rechecking after a reset. or when my memory card got a bit corrupted (was a bad memory card.)
I found that reformatting the memory card in my phone, after backing up whatever I wanted to keep, stopped it from getting warm again. From what I've read, I think the media scanner was having problems getting 'past' the corruption/s.
If you have a memory card, back it up onto a computer, format the card in your phone, using your phone to do so, then copy back whatever media and files you want. This really worked for me. If you don't have an SD card, then backup whatever you want from your phone, and do a full wipe, including internal memory by factory resetting it. Restart it, and let it settle. It will get warm on reboot, and after you sign in, while it's resyncing everything, but it should then settle down.
Sometimes I found that Google services would be going nuts too, reason really unknown, but it used to do it once in a while, and the phone would get pretty warm. I don't know if this was something Google was upto, or if it was related to the SD card issue.
All in all, my Z1 was pretty well behaved, especially when you compare it to how hot the later phones can get, like the Z5. You can almost fry eggs on that at times lol.
Thank you all I will definitely try to debloat my rom but is it okay for the device to go till 45°C only when you are just browsing. And it shows a lot of lags - even if you write a message it will hang in between.
And I would also like to mention that I have just got my screen replaced and is it possible that if the guy who did it might have messed up and thats why my phone is overheating?
try to clean install latest version
this should fix this issue,
or use custom roms , they are already debloated and include fixes.

maybe im wrong but i dont think it is related to the heating, most of the heat come from the cpu
but does your screen heat up or the back of your phone?

so try to clean install latest stock rom to check if it is a software issue or not.
clean install means to wipe everything in phone(no need to wipe internal data but if you do it is better)
and install stock rom using flashtools
if your phone still warm up, then it is probably a hardware issue
P.S: use your new rom for hours, at first maybe it heat up,
I may be the lucky one whose screen didn't start to peel off yet,but f*ck me this phone is starting to really piss me off.
Everything worked well after I have gone to SLiMM 1.4(way before) and as I was upgrading SLiMM versions it was slower and slower to the point where the phone is unusable!
So I thought, let's try to do a good old phone reset, reflash the ROM and go from the beginning.
I restored the apps, rebooted the phone and it was STILL painfully slow,so I resetted it again but this time restoring half the apps and half the Xposed modules I have used before.
It improved a tiny bit but nothing significant.
So I thought it is finally time to unlock the bootloader and see if there is any good AOSP ROMs,as the first one I tried was AOSP 7.1.1.
Fastest ROM I have used by far,the biggest problem,my device gets very hot from loading Messenger and jumping back to Snapchat and in AOSP 7.1.1 it would stop charging the phone because of the high temperature and this was quite a big issue.
So after using it for 2 weeks,I couldn't handle the charging thing anymore,so next best thing was Sony Concept ROM.
I install the ftf,goes well,install the recovery,install DRM fix,SuperSU and Xposed.
After rebooting I notice that Xposed didn't install properly so I jump back and flash it again, and the problem now was it would get like VERY VERY hot(you couldn't touch it) when it came to the "Android is starting" screen and of course the device started rebooting itself because it was way too hot.
So what I did was put the phone on a bag of f*cking ice to keep it cool, and it FINALLY passed that screen, only to find out a second later it returned to the bootanimation and gone into a bootloop.
Now I reflashed the ftf,but before even booting the ROM for the first time I flashed recovery,Xposed,SuperSU and the DRM fix.
It booted up fine,so I started to restore my apps and everything went well until I rebooted my device to find out it doesn't want to log in to Snapchat, the app I use very often.
So I flashed Magisk, systemless Xposed just that I can hide the root from it and disable Xposed just to log in to my account.
Even that didn't work so fine I'll try it next day.
So I decide to reboot the phone quickly and it has gone into the "Android is starting" screen and shut off in the half of the process. F*cking pissed.
I cool the phone down, boot it up,wait for it to finish and when it was close to finishing it has gone into a bootloop, and wiping cache doesn't solve it.
It is currently in a bootloop as we speak.
I really do like the phone but why is it behaving so badly? I do not know if someone had a similar experience as I did.
If anyone could give me a suggestion to make my phone stable and functional, please write a post since I need my phone to work.
Flash original android rom/kernel to the device to make device fully stock. Once it is back to stock, if problems still continue i recomend sell device and buy new one.. On my xperia, display stopped working out of blue, replaced it and my camera became blurry and vibration motor stopped working... Opened it again, fixed vibration motor, now it waits another opening to replace battery and camera lens... Disaster, but hey, device is great in hw department..

I forgot to mention, every time I said reset the phone I actually did flash the stock ftf and set it up all on my own,but whatever.
I guess it is just bad luck.

Exactly, I suggest the same issue. I had exactly the same problem on my Xperia T, it became slower, slower, incredibly slow after three years so I couldn't even flash anything using flashtool - it was showing many errors. Even after factory resetting the phone, it was booting and setting up for like... two hours or more, becoming VERY hot but it finally booted, still was very slow.
Two solutions - warranty or selling it.

It just doesn't make sense to me that the internal memory could be failing just under a year...
I cannot go for warranty since I voided it with unlocking the bootloader, and selling it is not an option because I am on a contract currently and I can only sell it once it expires and then get a new phone to renew my contract.
If it is internal memory,it is a second tine in a row, before I had the Galaxy S3 and it had the same symptoms,it looks like I'm prone to internal memory failures lol
Is there a way I can test the internal memory?
