I'm having lots of problems while calling, I can hear the person on the other side of the line perfectly while they can't hear anything I say (I sound very far away from the phone). This makes it impossible to have a normal conversation with anyone.
I understood flashing a new Radio could solve this problem, now my question is:
Where do I find these radio's and which one should I flash (Xperia V 4.3, The Netherlands)?
Andddddddddd Bash.
It might be a problem of mic. I had this problem before and the service center had replaced the mic. They said it was water damaged.

Can't be the problem, recording of sound is fine (Whatsapp record, video etc.)

Then it's software-related and not a hardware/radio issue.
Did this problem come with 4.3 or did it exist on 4.1, too? What about other ROMs like CM - are you able to test?
Exactly what I thought, but I just moved from 4.3 stock, to 4.3 Lovins. And I can't recall if it happened on 4.4 CM..
That's why I was kinda hoping I could just flash another radio/baseband or something.

are u saying you dont remeber if the radio was working on CM 4.4 e.g.!?
Honestly, if you sound really far away it cant be a problem connected to baseband/radiofirmware. Its either because you are standing quite far away from the person you are trying to test-call (joke) or due to the phone app.
Make a NANdroid and try it with another firmware....
No that's not what I said I meant, I can't recall if the issue was happening.

Greetings!
This is my first post in this forums. They've been very useful to flash, check updates, etc and I've never had the necessity of posting anything since I've cleared mostly any doubt I've ever had about my Android devices. This time, after searching all over the forums and in several other sites over the net I haven't been able to find any solution to my problem. Let me expose it:
Few months ago after having flashed my device to different ROM's, my friends started to tell me that they couldn't hear me well during phonecalls. The sound was not clear enough. They could hear, the volume was ok, but the phonecall the sound call they would recieve was not well.
I thought that this would be related to the hardware, maybe the mic was broken, because once I was thrown into a swimmingpool and I saved my phone by putting it into a jar with rice and letting it rest for few days. However, I have used other programs such as Skype and done the test phonecall so I could hear myself and it went verywell compared to call recorder app tests or regular call, the sound was much better. So I guess that the microphone is still okay and the problem is related to a setting issue that haven't been changed with flashing to different ROMS.
I've been running several ROMS, most of them based in CM7 and I'm now back to the latest stock ROM for America (2.3.5) and the problem is the same.
Any advice will be very apprecciated!
Yeh, if it doesnt work change the mic !

Thanks for the answer.
Actually, nothing of the posted above has worked out. If its a software problems how changing hardware would work?
if its still there is a problem after flashing stock one...than its probably your mic need replacement..!

I just cant figure how the mic works well with skype and not with phonecall and how changing de mic would fix it
Hey.
I'm having a bit of trouble with the audio quality on my end, when I use the phone.
The problem is, that it feels like the "Difference" or "loudness" in voice/audio level is amplified - meaning that when people speak softly, the voice almost cuts out, and when they speak normally, I have to move the phone away from my ear, because it's a bit too loud.
I'm using the android revolution HD 11.0 rom.
Anyone else have this problem?
Regards
Anders
Same Problem My One is still stock with all OTA updates.
I've written to the support. Curious what they will answer.
Have you tried a cold-start already?
No similar problem here. My HTC One is stock and unrooted.

Actually I seem to have solved it.
When I installed the Android Revolution HD version 11, I followed the guide posted. It suggested to update the firmware, but also stated that it wasn't necessary at this time, so I hadn't done that.
I went back, and updated the firmware, but in that proces, I noted that they had updated their rom to version 12, so I also installed that.
After this, the phone audio quality was better, though I can't say whether it was updating the firmware, or the rom. I presume it was the firmware though.

Anders
Hey there,
I know it has been discussed partly, but with I think different aspects and details than I have. To cut it short: in about 50% of my phone calls, be it with good or bad reception, people cannot hear me speak on the phone.
The fun thing is, this cannot be connected to the internal microphone since I have it both on the normal mic as well as my bluetooth headset. No matter whether I call them or they call me. Sometimes (!) it helps to mute and re-enable the microphone on-screen, but this is not always effective. I thought this may be related to a bad combination of firmware and radio, but I recently switched to InsertCoin GE und updated both FW and radio, to no avail as regards to that matter. Furthermore, sometimes phonecalls just drop in the middle of a conversation, with no change in signal quality as far as I recognize.
Does this sound like some software thingy (and one might have a solution) or would you believe this is hardware related?
All the best in advance

Hey there,
of course, I picked InsertCoin GoogleEdition with the corresponding 3.06.1700.10 firmware that's offered as a complementary download for the ROM. No hands on the kernel, left the one coming with the ROM. Does that help ?

can you do a nandroid backup and try with another ROM? You could also ask in the thread of the ROM if someone got a similar problem.
I would also downgrade the firmware to the latest for HTC One (non GE). this should not be the problem but just to be sure

Yeah, I think I can. But I came from a 4.2.2 ROM with the latest radio, TrickDroid 8.0 and I had the very same problems. Does it more sound like a hardware than a software issue?

if it happens with other ROMs too it is most propably a hardware issue
Hi All,
I have been having this problem with any firmware based on stock .290 and .136. Be it Whatsapp or Line or Viber. Anything that sends an Audio message comes out garbled, which is extremely annoying.
The weird thing is.. this becomes PERFECTLY fine when I open the the SIM card port.. I seriously fail to see the connection to MIC performance here.. with the port being open! so it's just weird!!
I have downgraded to .257 for now due to this bug.
Can anyone on .290 or .136 try whatsapp audio messages and see if the problem exists for them too?
Thanks all!
LaMMi
You have 2 microphone on Z1, when you record the voice message, speak to the one on top behind Led Notification/Phone Call Speaker.
BTW, Whazzapp always had this problems.
Unfortunately, this doesn't solve the problem neither..
It's really weird because it affects normal phone conversations as well but not as much.. I can use what's and click on the paperclip icon and actually RECORD a voice clip and it will come out fine... just when I use the audio button, it comes out garbled!
So damn weird!
Probably cheap codecs and the option in Whazzapp was always like that and many reported to have problems. Maybe with the next update Whazapp will fix that but now how do that I don't know. Just use different app to record voice messages and send them via whazz.
Download the new beta of WhatsApp here before it hits the Playstore.
It seemed to have solve the problem for me

As stated in this topic. The only alternative is to click the thumbnail icon in a chat, select audio and choose what's app recorder.
That will allow u to send a voice note the old fashioned what's app way without the garble. Even still I've experienced app and phone freezes when trying to listen to voice notes via what's app. So hopefully the next update fixes it.

Thanks all for the replies...
glad to know I am not the only one experiencing this problem.
I will surely report back when I have more details/fixes
Just updated to MonX .136 and installed the beta whatsapp version suggested by slimldj..
whatsapp still has some form of garbled messages but it's 90% fixed.. it's good enough for me to use 4.3 based rom now!
I hope others will find this information useful.

I was going to post a new topic specifying this exact problem (although my phone doesn't seem to benefit from opening the SIM flap).
This garbled recording is driving me nuts, it worked fine on .257. I'm also in a Z1 (C6906) .290 based rom (iHackers).
Is there some way this problem can be solved? Any help or input will be greatly appreciated.

Hiya Aldo!
I was having this problem actually all the way until around 3-4 days ago when Whatsapp got updated. I was using the workaround by "attaching" an audio clip instead of pressing down the button to speak.
Without changing rom (Monx .136), I just updated whatsapp to version 2.11.175 and now it is working 100% fine now.. The audio comes out clear and loud when played back...
Hope this helps, please post back of your results!

I "upgraded" to KitKat through PC Companion and can't get any sound from the earpiece. I tried the service tests and still nothing. I tried installing KitKat again, this time using an ftf on flashtool and wiping everything; still no earpiece sound. I then flashed another rom (Carbon), and the sound is fine there so it shouldn't be a hardware issue. Does anyone know what the cause could be? Better yet, how can it be fixed?
I gave up on KK for now and just went back to stock 4.2.2 where everything works for me... Would it possibly work right if I update OTA to KK?
I also have the same problem...
Hi guys,
Mine is working correctly after 4.4.2. But I installed it with full wipe and flash pre root, not PCC...

Hi, this is an unsolved bug of the latest stock rom updates. I found a solution:
1. go to Settings --> Apps --> all --> sound enhancements ---> clear data and force stop
2. clear data and force stop Walkman or other music app.
3. restart your cell phone.
But this is not a final solution. The sound bug "comes back" after some days. So, if it appears again you have got to do the same steps.
excuse me if i don't speak english well, I just speak spanish.

I installed SoundAbout. This App told me that my cell phone detects earphones and bluetooth device, but I didn't connect anything.
So, I thought there was a bug in smart connect app, and i was right. I cleared its data. Later, smart connect detected a "phantom" earphones.
It's annoying to make everytime the steps that I posted you, or configuring SoundAbout. I think I'll go back to stock 4.2.2 (the better stock rom for me)

I do not have any problem with this Soundabout really helped me this time
you can use the pro version...
complete all recommendations with bluetooth voice once...!!!!
The steps Claudio provided only seemed to work for a matter of minutes, but now I have been using the phone problem "free" for over 24 hours with SoundAbout installed. So when will we get a REAL fix from Sony? It seems like it should be an easy fix for them since it's just something in the software detecting a phantom headset connected. Should I just forget about that and buy a pro license for this app. Maybe Sony will reimburse me for it, haha
Thank you both for the input!
Well, my SoundAbout trial ended and the problem is back. I'm wondering if there is something in the android script or whatever that would "fix" this before ponying up for the Pro version of SoundAbout. Sucks to have to pay to fix Sony's problem

have you tried HF button widget?
A friend with an xperia ZR just had this issue also, so i was looking for an alternative to SoundAbout and came across this app.
Thanks for the tip. Right now, I'm frustrated with 4.3 and above, so I went back to 4.2.2. I had another sound problem on KK too; when using my bluetooth headset, if the back of the phone got a little pressure (even from me bending down with the phone in my pants pocket), the bluetooth would disconnect. I would then have to tap or press on the back to get it to reconnect. I was thinking it could be a hardware issue, but I don't have the problem at all on 4.2.2
