Kind of bricked my phone - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So here's what happened. I was planning on getting the M8 when it comes out on TMO. So I was returning my phone to stock, removing tampered flag and so on. After I did all of that I went to update my phone to 4.4.2 via the official update. However, during that process something happened and the update failed. I rebooted my phone and now it loads a pink, pixelated screen then goes to the HTC One loading screen then just freezes there (and the colors are off). I cannot boot my phone up completely. I can still push custom recoveries and my computer is making connect/disconnect sounds when I plug in my phone (if I do adb devices it says nothing is connected though). I'm s-off with hboot 1.56 and I was rooted. I can still boot into fastboot and my recovery and that's it. I do not have a backup that I can flash. I have also tried sideloading via twrp and that just fails.
I'm kind of just lost on what to do at this point. I have searched the forums and google and I haven't really found anything else that I can try at this point.

I was able to flash the firmware again. Now the pixelated screen is gone and the colors are right on the boot up screens.

Same thing happened to me. Pixelated pink/purple splash screen and then boot "animation" had a blue Beats logo and then froze. I actually forget how I fixed it, but it may have involved manually flashing some firmware. At the time I searched around to see if anyone else had ever experienced this. Apparently I was not alone.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app

I flashed the newest firmware and then unlocked my phone again and flashed twrp again. When I try to sideload it says nothing is attached to my computer. When I try to push a file I get an error saying no device is connected. When I try to flash it with adb commands I get the same thing as sideloading.

Did you install the HTC drivers on your computer?

Yes.

In my case, I had a working nandroid backup stored on the phone, so once I got into recovery, I just restored the nandroid and went on with my life. Not sure if that would work for you or if it's even an option for you. Or even if I remember it correctly. But "that's that my story and I'm sticking with it"..

[Q] Nexus One, Unflashable with fastboot

I recently recieved a Nexus One that I cannot reflash at all. It simply will sit at the static X logo upon boot. I can still access the bootloader. Recovery does not work at all. I have tried to wipe and restore using fastboot, and whenever I try to write any images, they seem to push to the phone (progress indicator on phone fills up, etc) but I never get a finished message on the computer. I let it sit for half an hour before I gave up on it and pulled the battery. I have tried this with Windows 7 on a desktop and a MacBook Pro, using various different USB ports and cable combinations on them. I cannot do the PASSIMG.zip method either because the phone never seems verify the FRG83 image but will never offer me the Yes or No dialog to write out the files. It kicks back to the regular bootloader options.
Is this Nexus One bricked? Can I bring it back from the next-to-dead? Am I really just missing something obvious here?
By the way, have you unlocked the bootloader? Using fastboot to push anything requires unlocked bootloader.
The bootloader is unlocked.
Ok well this might be a stupid question but you said you were using windows 7 and with windows the extension is hidden so if you name the file passimg.zip it will actually be named passimg.zip.zip and the phone won't recognize it so try naming it passimg
Also for the passimg method did you try using the frg33 file instead of the frg83 file.
I have Windows set to show all extensions regardless. I would say I'm plenty savvy when it comes to computers, just not Android (yet )
I tried both the FRG33 and FRG83 files. They just don't seem to do anything. The phone seems to check them: It says that it found the PASSIMG.zip and the progress bar in the upper right slowly fills up. Once it fills, it sits for a second and just kicks back to the normal bootloader choices as usual.
Thank you for all the quick responses! I hope I can fix this Nexus One. It's practically in mint condition...
It's strange that the bootloader is unlocked but you can't flash any ROMs :/
When you say that recovery doesn't work at all what exactly do you mean by that? When you boot into recovery what happens?
Now since we talked passimg I doubt it will work more than the others but did you try the GRI40 file?
I cannot seem to find a GRI40 that can act as a passimg. And when I say recovery doesn't work at all I mean that I just proceed to the the static, non-moving nexus logo and it doesn't ever proceed past it. I have tried to use "fastboot boot recovery.img" with a ClockworkMod and Amon_RA image and it seems to upload to the phone but I just end up with the nexus logo.
It seems that I can fastboot erase the userimg and cache, and get results that are expected. When I fastboot flash anything it sends to the phone but the phone never seems to do anything with it past that point.
When it gets stuck on the static X logo do you get 7 vibrations?
Did you try and fastboot flash Amon-RA then try and reboot into recovery. And for the GRI40 file it's on htc's developers web site http://developer.htc.com/
I only get one vibration. I tried to flash Amon_RA and reboot but it's like the flash never completes. I don't get anything different.
same issue here and browsing since yesterday for a proper solution and not yet !! any brave ideas ,pls share!

Kind of in the same boat, opened a thread my self but none of the suggestions are working. When im in fast boot it freezes for a second a runs a quick check. I just about catch it saying wrong passimg image or something along them lines.

[Q] Incredible S gets stuck on white htc boot screen

I was using my Incredible S normally, when it suddenly faded to black and was totally freeze so I decided to restart it (Taking the battery out)
Then after reboot, It got stuck on white Htc logo (with "quietly brilliant animation playing again and again"). So restarted it again and tried to use the fast reboot option (restarting and holding the VOL DOWN button), but this also didn't work.
Some details: I Have Android Revolution (ROM) with S-OFF
Hope somebody help me!

Did you remove battery ,then replace battery then
volume down and power?(after the first restart). And im assuming also that you want to go to recovery to redo a backup..
Yes, I just did that (also tried with another battery). But when I pushed recovery, It restarts and still getting stuck on the boot screen. (but now with some vibrations and then goes off)
I was thinking about reinstall the ROM, but that's my last option because I don't have a way to make a backup

if it allows you to get to recovery screen, did you try to go to any of the other options it gives you to see if it just reboots then as well, or is it just the recovery that reboots? And are you sure your batteries have charge,is your phone plugged in to a charger?
I tried with fastboot>reboot, recovery, and factory reset, all having the same result (reboot and then nothing). I'm not sure what are HBOOT USB and IMAGE CRC used for, and of course, I have not checked the SIMLOCK option.
Thanks for your replies.
Is it possible to make a backup from the recovery mode?
I don't think making a backup of what's going on would help any..but yeah if you can get into recovery you can backup.

I would suggest booting to the HBOOT menu and then connect your phone to the coputer you used when you ran Revolutionary to gain S-OFF.
Then select the FASTBOOT menu selection and see if you get into FASTBOOT USB mode. If you do, then I would try to reflash ClockworkMod recovery.
Thanks, I'm going to try that, but first I have to find the drivers.
Thanks Again, tell you later.
After got FASTBOOT USD, how should I continue to reflash ClockworkMod recovery?. Doing this, will I lose everything?
Edit:
I realized I can't reach recovery mode, so I can't reflash :s.
I'm not sure if you'll lose everything but use the command
fastboot flash recovery (name of image)
Make sure the recovery image is in the same folder as fastboot and adb

Flashing a custom recovery will not cause you to lose anything. Once you get recovery installed, any backups you made should then be available to restore.
But based on what you described happened to your phone, restoring a previous backup sounds like the best thing you could do.
Anyone please?
I have gone so far, I mean, I've tried to flash the recovery using fastboot usb but I got an error that said: FAILED (remote: now allowed). I also tried using Android Flasher, but I got an error too. It said: Your phone require ENG bootloader. after that I tried to flash another bootloader, but with no success :/.
I'm starting to get stressed, every different way I try, there's another problem...
EDIT : I'm sure I connected everything well. On screen said FASTBOOT USB, so I supose I got into this mode correctly

Looks like you need to resort to reloading a stock ROM. I would suggest you use the PG32IMG.zip method (copy an official RUU ROM.zip to your SD card and rename it PG32IMG.zip) and install it from HBOOT.

It didn't work :/, I got a RUU.exe then I extracted Rom.zip file and put into my SD as PG32IMG.zip. The phone readed the file without problems, but after "parsing" it rebooted and the same, some vibes, and got stuck again. also tried to extract the recovery file and just parse that one, but still the same.
I think is not a recovery problem, should I parse something else?
Have you Got the RUU specific to Your Device..????
or try making a Gold card and then flash the Downloaded RUU to avoid CID mismatch error...

And have you by any chance removed the battery while the device was stuck on the white HTC screen..???
and one more imporatnt do you have your warranty..???

[Q] HTC One won't turn on. Can't go into recovery or fastboot. Bricked?

I tried searching the threads but couldn't find one with a problem like exactly mine. Sorry if I was a lousy searcher, but here goes:
1 I had TWRP and TrickDroid 5.5.1 installed. Working fine.
2 Downloaded TrickDroid 6.0.1, went into recovery, wiped everything/factory reset etc. and installed the new ROM, rebooted
3 Working fine but there is no root
4 Tried wiping everything again and reflashing the same ROM. Rebooted. Same thing: ROM is working but there's no root
5 Read somewhere that flashing a different kernel might work, so I flashed Bulletproof 1.10 through TWRP. At the end of the installation of the kernel, right before reboot, TWRP said that my root seemed to be broken and asked me if I wanted to fix it. I said yes. As soon as I said yes (by swiping), phone shut off. Now it won't even start so I can't get into recovery. Pressing Volume-down+Power won't get me into fastboot either.
—The only sign of life is this: when I long press the power button, the home and back buttons will blink as long as I continue pressing it. When I release, nothing happens.
—When I plug the phone to PC, it sees it as a "HTC MTP device" and looks for the drivers but fails to find them.
I had never any trouble with flashing ROMs before so I got lazy with time, I don't have any nandroid backup, though since I can't get even into fastboot I guess that's the least of my problems?
Please help; did I really just brick my phone?
Just happened to me too man, I'm not sure what to do! Sorry to hijack your thread, just looking for answers too.

No need to apologize, that's why we're here. Please report back if you can find a solution.
Google told me that HTC's RUU tool could possibly help unbrick it, so I've downloaded the European variant ("RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.20.401.1_Radio_4A.13.3227.06_10.27.1127.01_release_308001_signed_2_4"). I fiddled a bit in the Device Manager in my PC and somehow got it to recognize the phone as "My HTC" under "Android ...", then ran the program. HTC logo appeared on the phone's screen so I got excited but after 10 minutes of waiting RUU told me it was the wrong variant and exited. Back to nil. I'm now downloading another variant of the RUU. We'll see if it helps. (I can't for the life of me figure out how to make my PC recognize the phone again though; I'm back to "MTP device, failed to install drivers" phase. Frustrating.)

Bricked after attempted TrickDroid update
I’m having the same problem.
Attempted to update Trickdroid 6.0.1 to 7.0 last night.
My phone now constantly hangs on the boot screen.
I can get to the fastboot and bootloader menus via long press volume down and power but anything from here simply reboots the phone back to the boot screen.
I’ve tried connecting the phone to the PC and using Fastboot and the One all in one kit but the device is never recognised.
Basically I’ve bricked my phone and need help!!

go to fastboot, use HTC all in one kit by hasoon to flash TWRP, go in twrp, Wipe everything including data, system, cache, dalvik cache, again go on HTC kit and put command of adb sideload, go on TWRP advanced menu and sideload roam. once sideload gets transferred, it will start installing and try different rom like ARHD 10.1
I can't belive it, but the bright light thing actually worked for me!
Thanks!
I was in the same situation with an HTC logo and flashing back and home keys. When I tried volume down + power under a bright light, it came back to life in bootloader. Not sure what the bright light has to do with it but glad it worked.

The bright light trick is not a bug, and it has nothing to do with TWRP. It happens because HTC built in a "pocket protection" so that the phone will not reboot on its own in your pocket. The proximity sensor needs light shining on it for a hard reboot to work. (Sometime they're not sensitive enough and it takes a brighter light than you would expect)

[Q] Bootlooping

Having a bit a problem. My phone is bootlooping while entering the OS but it's also bootlooping entering TWRP.
<phone details>
Unlocked
S-OFF
hboot 1.44
TWRP 2.6.3.3
I installed the latest nightly of CM11 and started to restore my applications. The phone got extremely hot during USB transfer and while TB was restoring. In the middle of the TB restore the phone rebooted and entered a bootloop. Attempting to enter recovery from the bootloader also results in a bootloop. It will get to the first 'TEAMWIN" splash screen then reboot.
I've tried reflashing recovery through fastboot but it still bootloops. I've erased cache through fastboot and then reflashed recovery and I'm still in the same boat.
I'm not exactly sure what my next steps would be. Any ideas?
What about flash recovery and then fastboot erase cache? Exact model of recovery?

Attempting to run the RUU....
It's hanging with the progression bar at about the halfway point. It's been sitting there for 33 minutes at this point.
The phone had been acting weird before. That was actually the impetus to switch from ARHD to CM11. I'm wondering if there isn't an underlying problem with the storage.
So at this point it looks like i'm screwed.
I'm not going to be able to file a warranty claim since I'm S-OFF and unlocked which I can't change since I can't get into anything but fastboot.

[Q] PLZ HELP!!! Can't get phone to do anything

First and foremost I am a newb when it comes to rooting. I tried installing the newest Viper Rom on my phone and everything was successful until the phone tried to reboot. It is now stuck in the fastboot/bootloader screen and I cannot go into recovery mode at all. I tried doing a factory reset and it just keeps taking me back to the same screen.
I was running Cynogen MOD 4.4 Rom and everything was working fine. I backed up my phone and wiped my phone before I ran the Viper Rom. I don't know what happened and I'm kind of freaking out. I tried connecting my phone to my computer via USB when I run "fastboot devices" through the command prompt it keeps giving me "waiting on device". I did some research and everywhere kept saying that I needed to install the htc drivers through both htc sync manager and the individual driver files I found on the internet. I did everything possible and it still doesn't seem to recognize it.
I'm currently stuck/lost on what to do hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction. Attached is a screen shot of both my device manager and command prompt. I will continue to look on the internet for any type of answer. Thanks everybody.
(Sorry for starting a new thread I just didn't know where to put it.)
