[Q] [ASK] Remove separator - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, i want to ask
is it possible to remove separator (minus '-' sign) in the z1's phonebook ?
i use to copy-paste numbers from phonebook to text message, but i need that numbers without separator. Of course i can edit it in text message, but if i copy paste a lot of contacts i will need alot of time to delete those separator sign.
maybe you suggest to sent the vcl files, but all i need is sent it via text message. since i need to add some text to it.
Thanks
by the way are there application that add the menu 'insert number' just like old nokia phone, because i think copy paste from phonebook is so unefficient

Hmm... Not really the easy solution you're looking for, but you could try to reformat all your contacts to remove the -'s. I've done this before by using contacts.Google.com to export my contacts to a csv, open in excel, make mass edits excel, delete the contacts from Google then upload the new csv to Google contacts to repopulate them. Isn't the most elegant solution though...

..btw ..even if there is a - between numbers the phone will dial them correctly and you will not have any problems. I think it just a matter of how they look.

@eclyptos : its not for dial, consider i sent text to kind of bot/machine. So i need specific format which is no separator

You're saying that when you send/receive SMS/MMS emoticons show as images rather than text? How do you do this?
Can you post a screenshot?
Thanks
i have smileys in the aucontent folder, but where can i insert them?
i have no option on my keyboard to insert smileys.
I think the stuff in UAContent is for inserting smileys when composing an MMS. I don't think there's a way to get them working in an SMS. Although, please correct me if I'm wrong!
any news for adding emoticons?
i'm using smiley sms do a search will be able to locate it somewhere in this forum it allows u to compose and receive sms with animated smileys brillant software cheers
emote
unfortunately smiley sms is very slow on my HTC Touch HD. All I would like is to get the same "shortcut/tool bar" in SMS writing as I get when typing in the Text field of MMS writing. The one that shows 5 buttons. One that looks like a smiley for inserting smilies, and one that looks like a star, for inserting http links, one for predefined tesx, one for vCard and one for vCalender entry.
Would be VERY useful to have these when writing sms too.
Anyone know if it's possible?
Also:
When writing SMS, almost half of the screen is taken up by the window showing the SMS tat you are replying to. And only one line is shown of the message you are actually typing. Making it very hard to get an overview of what you have typed. Any chance these windows can be ajusted? Maybe even removed?
cheers

when sending an MMS without media content, it asks if I want to send as a SMS...maybe they will send then...
Anyone maybe found a way to put smilies in sms?
bumpy bumpy... i'm interested in this as my girlfriend uses smileys from her sony erricson but all i see if colons and brackets and txt symbols.
hopefully someone will create a hack to do this as its a pain when your used to a sony erricson smileys
I use Smiley sms and in the settingsmenu i only select:
Enable SmileySms
Animated Smilies
Compose Form
Inbox Smiley forms.
This shows the smiley when i recieve them, and i get a small icon on the button of my smsscreen when i compose a new sms. it is behind your keyboard.
This works fine for me and don't feel any slowing down

Is this actually trying to be an iPhone?

so, the new contact card....
where is the copy and paste?
*sigh*

PS... the IPhone hasn't got Copy and paste in case you're wondering on the subject... (though they're making an update to support it)
I think it's better cuz it has more features and a free, fully supported 6.5 update. Plus, I like WinMo more than Crap OSX.

TF3D2 is their effort to make windows mobile nice and easy, but you have to go to the old style contact editor to copy and paste...
click a contact, and click "edit contact". Try copy pasting....
so to move a number to a different contact.... (How is this an improvement?!?)
*open contact 1
*click edit contact (but you can't copy here, so ...)
*click more (now you're in the old style contact editor)
*Select number, and copy it.
*click ok on win contact editor
*exit contact
*open contact 2
*click edit contact (but you can't paste here, so ...)
*click more (now you're in the old style contact editor)
*Select right box, and past into it.
*click ok on win contact editor
*exit contact
The process should be
*open contact 1
*click edit contact
*Select number, and copy it.
*exit contact
*open contact 2
*click edit contact
*Select right box, and past into it.
*exit contact

Imagine that when HTC made their volume control, it would let you raise the volume, but not lower it, but you could open HTC volume control, click on "more" and then you opened windows default volume control, which let you lower the volume.
That's about how I see this, they replaced one of the main applications, and failed to implement it's full functionality, contact editing is a basic feature on any phone and should be done properly.

Switch to keyboard input method instead of full qwerty and you can use ctrl+c to copy and ctrl+v to paste. But just how often do you really need to copy a number from one contact to another one anyhow? Not as if its an everyday occurance, now is it?
Our office has changed the first part of the number 3 times this year. Thanks for pointing out the ctrl c thing, didn't know about that, was expecting to use the long press menu.
I'm happy with the phone mostly, just feel TF3D could have been better, and I'm missing the battery meter on the notifications screen and facebook contact integration (I had these on my touch pro that I had the vga port of TF3D2 on)
Yep, trying to be an iPhone

It all depends on the software sadly, Get K-9 to replace your mail app and something like Xscope or another browser,
Xscope lets you "SHARE" the www address bar, from that menu you can pick COPY or email to email .
Or you could try on the market for 3rd party cut and paste apps.
I can give you a way to cut/copy/paste the user-input text:
Assuming you're using Swype, place your finger over the bottom leftmost key (key with a swiping hand image) and swipe it to the immediate right key (SYM).
You'll reach the editing options, where you'll find multiple text editing options.
However, it you're referring to being able to copy text from webpages, e-books, etc. I don't know how to do that.
Good Luck

well thx for infos guys if i find some nice app i will leave a feedback here
Best way to do this is using K9 which sadly doesnt support threading view yet, or using the gmail app on the browser and copy pasting from there
Its a similar dilemma to the iphone app :<

[Q] Why is copying a phone number so tough

Hi
In the "phone" application, if I have an entry in the call log from someone, I simply cannot copy that number to the clipboard. I have to long press and select "Edit number before call" and then copy it from the text box (not from the place it is displayed above). Highly convoluted and non-user friendly.
Is there any reason why I cannot simply long press a phone number in the call log and copy it? Even selecting text does not seem to be possible in Whats App or SMS applications. There is some cursor like thingy that appears and thats about it. I cannot select portions of text to be copied.
Can't believe I am asking this, but how can I copy portion of text, say from an SMS or from a WhatsApp message?
Thanks.
Farhad.

Double tap the text and you should get two handles and the select/copy/cut action bar up top.
It took me a while to get this, apparently on Sony phones you have to double tab to get to cut/copy/paste, it's easy enough once you get that though.
Sony Phone app: no copy, no send contact, no vibrate when connected.
Sony Messaging app: no font size changable, no hide message content option, can't not send (unamed) number from call log.
In term of UI functions, Sony need to do much more. I feel they still not focus enough on software
Don't tell us, tell Sony, they're the only ones who can do anything about it.
Hello,
I have another copy / Paste question. In the calendar I cannot copy the location entry. Anytime I tab it, I am asked to open google maps. Any Idea how to copy location text?
Thanks!

Not sure what do you mean "no vibration when connected, but to copy: long press on the number and to send: that's in the menu.

Unfortunately this is one of the few bad things about Lollipop. The ability to display only contacts with numbers was removed.
These are the only options I've been able to find of what contacts to display
I had this option in my Note Edge, but in S6 I don't see it.
I was looking under phonebook, contacts etc.
Where is this option? Is it really gone?

I found a way to fix this but it takes a bit of savey but this is a developers forum...
Export your google contacts (csv)
Sort your contacts by the phone number (there's 4 fields there, I sorted all 4 type/number) since I wasn't entirely sure the mobile 1 is really always there or not if there is a mobile 2 (1 is primary) but regardless I just wanted to separate the entries with phone numbers and those that didn't.
After sorted I deleted everything without a number.
I went into gmail and made a Phone contact list (if you want you can make an example entry so you know what it looks like I guess) but I could tell it was like * something:::* All Contacts in the one field, I just changed this to * Phone:::*All contacts
then I wrote out the file
Unfortunately even thought it's a CSV it tab delimited it vs comma (this may have been the libreoffice)
so i edited with vi and substitute all tabs with ,'s
s/(control-v)(tab)/,/g
when I did this is also had three "blank" lines at the beginning with all ,'s so I just deleted those to get the titles on the top.
I then went back into gmail contacts and imported this file
It populated all those entries in my Phone contact list
I then went to the phone and told it to only display entries from my Phone contact list and ...
PRESTO - I see only the entries with numbers now
Everything else is there but I don't see it in my phone when i want to select someone to dial!
Personally I think this is BS to have to do this but I just don't think there is another option.
Solution
A simpler solution is by going to Contacts - Settings - Display preferences - Hide incomplete numbers.
Im running MIUI 7 Lollipop
