That's my thread...I'm still working on getting it to work on 4.4. I'm sending it to a couple of people today. PM me if you want to test it. It works fine on 4.3, so with some minor changes, it should work.
And you need to be rooted for this BTW. (obviously if you want to change the status bar).

Is it possible to have different states of the status bar, eg. lockscreen - 100% transparent, homescreen - 50% transparent, in app - black.
Thanks for any help.

Are you thinking of the i#&@%* status bar?
Android you can only do it one way for all 3 "states".
No I was thinking of how the MIUI Rom has different status bars in different areas. The lockscreen doesn't have the time either, but after you unlock it the time shows back up.

Hey I have currently got CM 11 on my i9000 but I can't customize some things I could with other ROMs. Things like changing the battery icon colour in the status bar. Does anybody know if any kitkat ROMs support this for our phone? Or could work on making it so?

I hate the Kit Kat quick settings notification bar pull down and want to revert to the jelly bean style. Specifically, I don't want to have to click an extra button to access my quick panels. Xposed mods don't seem to work to enable the right pull-down quick access. I actually downgraded back to jelly bean because of that reason… and gravity box not working. I can deal with gravity box, but I can't handle the notification quick settings. Is it just the settings.apk ? I don't think it would run in Kit Kat so I'm looking for some input... I searched on Google and XDA and have come up empty.

I'm not on stock, but in 4.4 , I'm pretty sure you can go right to the settings with a two finger pull down. I know this isn't exactly what you want, but just thought you might like to know

place your finger on the top right of the notification bar and hold it there for about a second. it'll automatically highlight the quicksettings and when you pull down then, you'll end up in the quickpanels
I hate all KK.
You can pull down with two fingers to automaticcaly go to quick settings. You can also place your finger on the right top corner to pull down the quick settings. I find it a big improvement because the clean notification menu and you can add more(16 now) quick settings!

I've noticed that if I touch right where the battery icon is before I pull down it pulls down the quick settings menu. Problem solved.

Has anyone else noticed the kit Kat status bar on some apps? I.e. Snapchat textra. Is that because of Samsung or because of the app developer?

If you mean that the status bar stays black, this is because the developers have not updated their apps to Material Design, which assigns a primary colour to the toolbar, and a darker primary colour to the status bar.
No I mean like this. It fades instead of being two different shades. It looked correct on my nexus.

What do you mean? What have they done? It just looks like the devs have used a transparent status bar instead of a coloured one, which is supported in KitKat and above.

As far as I can tell, they did not do that at all. Samsung would have to make that change to EVERY app you install on your phone; they cannot control each app individually. So the fact that some apps have the transparent status bar (KitKat) and some have the solid colour status bar (Lollipop) means that the respective developer of that application is responsible for the colour of the status bar in their own app. I know this because I myself have developed a few applications on Android.

No they wouldn't, they just have to modify the systemui(which handles the transparency) and change effect.
Well I hope they fix it in the next update whoever it is.

This is what it looks like on my moto X (running 5.0.2). Is that what you're saying the 'lollipop' style is?
